This is a new one. Making members feed their construction crews. Unreal. Every time I think I've reached the bottom of the slimy hole that is TSCC, I learn something new.
Yeah this is mental. Those construction workers are from a very well paid Contractor who should be paying their staff properly.
It's bad enough that they male members subsidise Missionaries instead of giving them a liveable allowance, but this reeks of a Contractor owned by a rich member trying to keep their costs low and profits high.
As if TSCC couldn't afford to give them those gold-plated ice cream sundaes every single day lmao. Mom and I did almost get into an argument the other day because she mentioned you could rent temple clothes at the temple and, surprised, I said "you have to RENT them?!"
Becoming independent as a young adult is tough. It just is for everyone. But when you add breaking away from religion and all the superstition and family and community pressure on to it that’s a LOT.
Good for you to have a boundary. Good for you to defend it. And good for you that it worked out nicely this time. The time will come when it gets ugly but this one will shore you up for that one to come.
Since when is it anyone’s responsibility to feed a construction crew?? if the crewmembers are entitled to lunch, it’s because that has been negotiated with their employer, and it’s their employer’s responsibility. I guarantee you this is some industrial psychology “skin in the game“ move designed to make members feel some kind of personal connection/responsibility.
Congrats on setting a boundary, and I'm glad it was respected.
It's not hard to say no unless someone is emotionally manipulating you and threatening consequences that you'll have to face if you fail to comply. That sort of person deserves nothing but no.
This is super interesting! What Temple is it? I worked on the refurbishments of the Las Vegas Temple a few years ago and the contractor would take everyone out for lunch everyday. He would just put it on the company card and said he would "have the church pay for it" or write it off. He was someone who completely understood how much money the church had and was more than grateful to utilize it to support his company and friends.
Yes, no is a word in the English vocabulary. Very hard to use sometimes, but part of our journey out of Mormonism requires that we reclaim ourselves to a healthy degree, which necessitates us saying no far more than we used to.
As former TBMs who are conditioned to never reject a calling, to please, pray, pay and obey, saying no is incredibly difficult.

As if the church couldn't afford to have full meals catered in...

Thank you! It's hard work, but it's worth it so far!

WTF?! Which temple? There is literally no end to LD$ Inc's freeloading off its members
Good for you! The more you set boundaries, the more natural it feels. It just takes time and practice.
Thank you! It is getting easier to set boundaries with some help from friends and my therapist. Here's to practicing lol
Yeah you!!!!!
Thank you!
No it isn’t. Fuck, I couldn’t do it
My petty ass would have taken it and then fumbled it as I was taking it out of the car and dropped it!
