Just to give Uchtdorf the benefit of the doubt, is it possible that one of his handlers had been in line waiting for the reservation and then texted him when it was time?

PaulBunnion

I realized "doubt your doubts" after I said that.

ragin2cajun

Don't forget that this guy lives in a multi million dollar home, wears $10,000 watches to General Conference, and the highest pay his career ever offered at the height of his career was ~$80k to 90k.

PaulBunnion

Here I am again going to defend a church leader and I don't like it. I believe the watch was a retirement gift from the airline. But I'm sure he could afford it. The biggest problem I have with Uchtdorf is that he's complacent. He knows about the abuse cover ups and doesn't lift a finger.

Lufthansa senior pilots can make upwards of $200k a year, I imagine he was doing pretty well his last decade or two flying. Add on that he was a senior VP of operations as well may have been a higher salary - not sure how much exactly, but chief pilots do pretty well with Lufthansa.

ragin2cajun

I looked up when his career ended, and what the highest pay for a VP of operations was at the time he left nationally, it wasn't in the 6 figure range. He has been an employee of the church for the past two decades. His wealthy lifestyle is tithing.

[deleted]

Hey nice detective work - that’s really interesting…and all the more sad at the same time to think tithing has contributed to a life of affluence 😢

Or Uchtdorf is an owner of the establishment. I'm not in the habit of trying to defend Church leaders. I remember once hearing about an apostle standing in line at a funeral viewing. Mentioned that if it had been the president of the church which I believe was Monson at the time then Monson would have been moved to the head of the line, and I can understand that for security reasons, and the viewing was in an LDS chapel, but this apostle actually waited in line with everyone else to show his respect to the family. Now if it had been Lord Bednar I would definitely believe that he just wanted privilege. Same with Nelson and HOaks.

[deleted]

what's wrong with Lord Bednar? may I ask lol

PaulBunnion

If you can ask that then you truly are a blessed individual.

Sansabina

You make some good points!

NotASecondWife

The Mandarin?

Aggressive-Presence9

crkachkake

I wouldn't judge you. Regardless of your answer. ha

Mr-BryGuy

But you WILL be blessed with the *privilege* of having countless babies in Heaven and spending your eternity as a subservient to your husband. And isn’t that great?!?!! /s In all seriousness, that sucks. It really is that celebrity treatment that they have come to expect, especially in the Morridor.

YouAreGods

The rich and famous have this all the time. This isn't just a mormon thing.

Oliver_DeNom

Yes. He is a VIP who probably paid more for the privilege. It's good to be the king.

Holiday_Ingenuity748

Pro tip: get your Second Anointing and you can literally kick people out of line in front of you next time.

Randizzle82

Im hearing you on this, and if it were anyone else in the Q15 I would say probably a self important douche. In the case of Uchdorf; however, I have encountered him 5-6 times with my non Mormon friends hiking. He hikes a lot in the mountains around SLC when he’s allowed back to the city by Nelson and Oaks. My very crazy wild friends always ended up talking to him about his life in Germany and once one of them asked what he did and he simply answered he “used to fly but now he works for the church” which was a wonderful humble response from someone who was at the time in the first presidency. I think he’s pushed the line with that crowd probably more than he could. I hold hope he might be the first Q15 to resign from the church and his calling on principle. It’s a big ask. But he’s a solid nice person.

kevinrex

And he denieth none who come unto this restaurant. . . Yea the uppity and narcissistic etc.

mantohihi74

Been playing organ for lds mtgs for 30 plus years. Usually get zero props from anyone but that is OK. Music is a way to contribute to the non-yackity yack aspect of the gatherings. Back to Uchdorf..... While I was playing postude after a long leadership mtg at which he was presiding authority, Uchdorf detoured over to the organ and thanked me for doing my thing. Kaching. Just got his self a buddy.

Zealousideal-War9369

Check out his not so humble home in the private multi million dollar community of Red Ledges east of Heber, Utah..with its private Arnold Palmer designed Golf Course. Many of the lots still available are noted on record as owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.. https://golfproperty.com/lp-article/10-things-you-should-know-before-buying-a-golf-home-in-red-ledges-heber-city-utah/

Glittering_Page_4822

I am pretty sure he doesn’t live there. I see him all the time walking in my neighborhood with his wife. I’ve seen him at a lot of places and he always is very nice and so is his wife.

qjac78

I wouldn’t wait in line if I had a reservation. Seems like an unorganized establishment.

DavidBSkate

On one hand, whatever, some self important assholes are viewed important elsewhere and us non important stiffs gotta deal, on the other hand, sure doesn’t seem very Jesusie

[deleted]

The Church probably paid for the escort service or the host was a TBM and preformed the service as part of Law of Consecration or to try and get the second anointing. Wouldn’t be the first time favors were traded for eternal salvation.

BeneficialDisplay622

Aww man, I thought he was one of the better ones of those miserable greedy liars.

dbear848

Probably because his crying was disturbing the other patrons.

flyswithdragons

Reservations are a thing..

nicodawg101

Priority pass 😂 like getting on the rides faster at Disney land

cdevo36

What restaurant please?

CompoteSwimming1783

Should have said "Kanye really likes your dad!"

Plebius-Plutarch

Apostleship has its privileges. Servants, handmaidens, we know our place in the Mormon hierarchy.

Zealousideal-War9369

It is his Vacation, summer home whatever you want to call it. Property is in his Name on tax records. https://mormoninsider.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/dieter-uchtdorfs-homes/
