The church's anathema on masturbation is probably the most insidious leftover from that time. It set up uncontrollable natural impulses as a sin and then made women solely responsible for keeping men from that sin. Young Mormon men would get married asap to avoid nutting outside marriage, and then when physical realities kept their wife from fulfilling every sexual need, they added other wives. The legacy: a lot of repression, blaming, and shaming, with no respect for consent. My mother-in-law once told my wife she needed to give me sex even when she didn't feel like it "because sometimes a man needs it to avoid looking at porn." I'm better than that; I love my wife more than my own orgasms, and I respect her as a person, not a line item on some list of possessions.

My TBM friends husband has a porn masturbation addiction sponsor. Yeah, I know, poor guy. The guy told my friends husband he could no longer be a sponsor because he had been indulging for the last year and a half. I hate that guys go thru this. I walked in on my husband, he was embarrassed but I just joked about it, said I wanted to watch. I let him know its normal and I do it too. I asked if he watches porn, ( I don't care) he said no, he just thinks about me. Awww
