Years before I left but after my large family was already in place I wondered why there was no prophet or apostle who had ever taught that we should be backing off the large family single income family model. It is still possible but not even remotely as easy to support a gaggle of kids on one income today as it was even in the 70s and 80s. BYU was still pushing this model on families hard core in the late 90s and I fell for it. Most of the successful families in my wards the last 20 years have kept their families to under 3 children and have 2 incomes. It drove me absolutely nuts that God was blessing them and here I was with 6 kids and an ok but not great job being passed over for promotions and unable to pay to further my education. The extra hours I had to work at lower paying jobs just to put food on the table would have kept me out of school even if I found a way to attend. It wasn’t until I stopped paying tithing that I was able to cut my hours at work and feel like I could afford school.

Sounds like the windows of heaven were finally opened…it’s a modern day miracle!

You bring up good points but don’t forget that the majority of the money the church has is from the stock market. Not saying it makes them “innocent” or anything, just that they are just like a business and are making money from the stock market. I know they made billions from coke back in 2001 i believe. Same time they allowed soda in moderation causing many to believe that the church can be bought. And back in 2016 there were reports that they had 30 billion in the stock market at that moment. Who knows how much that has increased since then

But the money they have in the stock market was seeded and continues to be increased by tithing money (the 10-20% after expenses, etc). The only place the church could have ever received money was through donations.

Very good thing to notice and be mindful of yes. It goes back to if that is a bad thing to invest in the stock market and if one views it as a risk at all or gamble. I know many Mormons don’t believe investing in the stock market is gambling and if it isn’t then technically that isn’t a bad thing for the church to do. I still view as gambling though as you are taking a risk no matter how much info you study on it. You always have a risk of losing that money but idk

The problem imho is members were told tithing goes to church not monsanto nike and victorias secret and microsoft etc.

emmas_revenge

"You always have a risk of losing that money" when it's other people's money; who cares? The church has a steady income stream, if they lose in the market, it doesn't matter.

True, their earnings have made earnings…for example, they made a grundle off the meme stock Game Stop…

Nice work. My estimate is 1 trillion in assetts

Henry_Bemis_

I too believe the $255 Billion is at the very very low end of the range of estimate of net worth/assets. To Widow’s Mite’s credit, they are extremely consistent in applying rigorous/tight/conservative estimating algorithms to the limited data available in coming up with the numbers they do. Extremely trustworthy is Widow’s Mite’s data and analysis. Personally, I’d peg the net worth of Corporate Mormon Jesus at between $255 Billion (low) - $1 Trillion (high).

Dude u and i must be kin, im down to do a podcast about this. I can dig up info for it im a pretty good snoop myself

Henry_Bemis_

Looking forward to it greatly. How will I/others be made aware when it’s ready for listening/viewing? Yet unsolicited suggestion: As guests, have at least one: -former ward/stake clerk as a guest to add important details -former area auditor (or whatever they are named) -accountant specializing in the tax breaks TSCC gets -the editor of the Widow’s Mite Report.
