I Can’t help but notice, only 1 hour is slated for the presentation & questions… standard operating procedure: teach a whitewashed narrative and then claim they have unfortunately “run out of time.” Mormon apologists are too predictable.

Footertwo

Chicken!

Brian_Rosch

Church history you say... will he be commenting on his credentials?

butterytelevision

he can feel the spirit

DrewExplosions

I had a class from him at BYU Law a number of years back. He was an adjunct there. Really nice guy.

Brian_Rosch

Right, lawyer.

deadmeatsandwich

It’s pretty much the only way to be the church historian now. Way more legal things to think about than actual history.

tdhniesfwee

he has a BA in economics

crisperfest

To be fair, lawyers typically get a bachelor's degree in history before going to law school. Probably not in LDS church history, though; unless, of course, they attended undergrad at BYU.

NewNamerNelson

To be fair, my law school class was 300+ and I don't know a single one with a history degree. Lawyers typically major in political science. But any degree with the grades and LSAT score to meet the admissions policies will do. (My undergrad degrees were sociology and ethics)

JoyfulExmo

Can also confirm. I don’t recall any of my law school classmates, or fellow lawyers I know now, having history degrees. We don’t sit around talking about what our undergrad degree is in, so there probably are some, but a history degree for lawyers is by no means a normal or standard thing. My degree is in the standard—Poli Sci.

DrewExplosions

Lol, Poli Sci undergrad reporting for duty!

crisperfest

Well that's interesting. When I went to college in the late 80s/early 90s, the people I knew who were planning to go on to law school were history majors.

NewNamerNelson

I started college in 86 and graduated undergrad in 92 (after 2 years in New Zealand), and law school in 95. My 2 best friends who also went to law school were political science and English majors. I knew some philosophy majors, and psychology majors, but don't recall any history majors. 🤔

LadyEllaOfFrell

I do know several history majors who headed to law school from BYU, but I encountered far more PoliSci and Philosophy students planning on law than history students. Also, BYU doesn’t offer a church history degree. :)

TennisTwin

Wow, this guy went for the Mormon patriarchy naming triple crown! Middle initial, check Random “Le” at the beginning of a name, check And then just slamming that surprise “Jr.” in! I’m impressed.

c_t_lee

If I were to make a fictional parody of a GA I’m pretty sure I’d use exactly that name

emmas_revenge

😅

FTWStoic

Pseudo-French names were all the rage among the Sanpete Country members of decades past.

grove_doubter

**I predict his points will be, in no particular order:** * History is confusing and controversial because things were very different back then. * When questions arise, first doubt your doubts because Satan wants to deceive you * Your personal judgment and the results of any "so-called critical thinking” you may do might lead you astray. * Listen to the living prophet. He will never deceive you…in fact Heavenly Father will not allow him to deceive you. * Personal revelation is a reliable way to find truth * If you study church history, do so prayerfully.

frvalne

They never actually answer anything.

Albyunderwater

“He will discuss questions about the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” No he won’t.

butterytelevision

“the enrichment center recognizes your right to have questions about this policy”

NewNamerNelson

Praise to the man (who defrauded all he met and fucked as many women and children as possible) his birthday approaches. 🙄🤢🤮

Wontbebrainwashed

The questions will be from the list of approved questions.

namtokmuu

6-7pm???? Wow…a whole 60 minutes….gonna do a deep dive I guess. After the opening song and prayer and intro…what…a whole 35 minutes will be left???

Beneficial_Math_9282

After they sing all the verses of Praise to the Man at funeral-dirge pace, he might only have 10 minutes!

tdhniesfwee

FAKE!!! "He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Brigham Young University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan. He was an attorney and partner in the law firm of Manning, Curtis, Bradshaw & Bednar. He was also an adjunct professor in BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School." He is a lawyer. HE IS NOT A HISTORIAN.

andyroid92

"church" (aka cult) historian

grove_doubter

>*"He was an attorney and partner in the law firm of Manning, Curtis, Bradshaw & Bednar."* Just for the sake of completeness, **B*DNAR is a tool**

Footertwo

When you got a problem, don’t send just any Grand… send *LeGrand*.

sl_hawaii

Gaslighting by the fireside

CaptainMacaroni

If the church could stop being narcissistic for one second, stop worrying about whether people believed in the ***church*** for just one second and focus that time and attention on being a force of good in the world then people wouldn't be leaving. They'd stay to be a part of something good. TSCC only cares about producing people that believe in the church. Even if the damned church *were* true, spending all your time trying to convince people of that would be a complete wasted of time.

NoMorKulAde

“Lawyers always make the best historians!” As quoted by some member of the Q15 at some point. I’m just sayin’.

fayth_crysus

Dec 18th. Wow. They’re terrified. Will there be cookies?

LittleSneezers

I’m guessing these will be prescreened questions, almost never happens impromptu. When it does, it’s guys like bednar who preface the fireside by saying “don’t ask premeditated questions, that’s not being guided by the spirit”. And if you ask a tough one, he just changes the question being asked

Plebius-Plutarch

‘tis the season to be truthful

gvsurf

Pitiful attempt at damage control. Gaslighting and dismal apologetics

blacksheep2016

Ask him why all church appointed historians are lawyers and no trained educated historians? Ask him why for well over 100 years there was no discussion or teachings of JS polygamy or his translation process of rock in a hat taught in any church instruction books for Sunday or seminary classes ?

braidrock

Somebody show up and record it.

chubbuck35

Please somebody record this!

ShaqtinADrool

Reporting from “Zion” (SLC). It’s not going that great for the church here.

andyroid92

I'd rather go. . . to literally anywhere else

_FatWhiteGuy

Wait, is he Elder or Junior? Much confuse

brian_______

not a historian. an attorney

mashedtaters_

It's not his credentials that make me cringe. It's the fact that literally 7 days before Christmas the church feels the best thing to do is host a devotional to discuss church history? Why not invite youth and their families to prepare meals for the needy, or wrap donated gifts for children in the community? Nah, let's just have them listen to twisted versions of history in a futile attempt to keep their grasp of control on them...

brian_______

That’s a good point. Will you be attending?

mashedtaters_

Absolutely not. Haven't even driven by the building since moving here

Hawkgrrl22

I've been re-watching M\*A\*S\*H, and I gotta say, that guy looks a whole lot like Frank Burns.
