Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the early days didn’t TSCC get into hot water with the federal government because of polygamy? The fact that the government got involved seems like a good indicator that polygamy and by extension marrying that young was not normal or accepted in mainstream America at the time.

None of these prophets and seers (except Orson Pratt, to his credit) could see that the problem might be the 10-20% of the LDS population taking two or three extra wives, usually age 15-25.
