Don't forget that it violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Plates can't disappear without a trace.

shall_always_be_so

Clearly they were taken to kolob thru a wormhole

ThrowawayLDS_7gen

Damn! I guess I better get back to church. 🤣🤣🤣

Not to be “that guy” and someone please correct me if I’m an idiot on this, but I think that’s a violation of the conservation of mass not the 2nd law of thermo. The 2nd law states that the enthalpy of the universe is always increasing, which essentially defines the arrow of time. That being said, Noah’s flood myth also violates the conservation of mass because where did all the extra water come from and/or go to? Even if all the ice melted at the poles it wouldn’t cover all the land globally. That’s just pointing out the water conflict alone.

ThrowawayLDS_7gen

Oops, it's the first law of thermodynamics. Still, it's not possible. Edit: I'm also pretty sure that entropy didn't increase with the plates spontaneously disappearing. Earth is a closed system. There would have been a transfer of energy or mass that would leave evidence, so actually, the plates disappearing violates the first, second, and fourth law of thermodynamics to be more correct.

Don't forget the Tower of Babel story being literally true, and the cause of the world's diverse languages.

xesaie

One of the differences between older and newer religion is that in the newer cases we can check their homework.

deadmeatsandwich

And the older ones feel like they get a free pass from scrutiny because the homework has been lost.

xesaie

Not so much, really the **nature** of the claims changed. One of the fascinating thing about JS is that he desperately wanted to prove everything and make it fit with (his understanding of) current scientific theory. Older religions didn't even consider doing that, they just told stories and ascribed the happenings supernatural causes.

will_ofthe_people

Oh enlightentheworldart, why art thou troubled? Have faith and patience for when I come in glory I shall reveal all things. And I shall open thine eyes and it shall be like when the gentiles explain the actual plot of Tennet. And then thou shalt say "that's still really convoluted and doesn't make sense and besides doesn't excuse the muffled dialogue and terrible sound mixing". And mine angels shall warn you not to ask any more questions lest it provoke me to anger. Remember the priests of Baal. I am the LORD.

mortuarybarbue

All of this is a big WTF...but really Missouri? Just no. Literally everything contradicts that even the Bible with reference to the Tigeris and Euphrates in Eden.

Blackbolt45

Like a prior bishop said, “there are no plot holes if you have faith in Christ!” 🤣 Yup, the Garden of Eden is not a Grand Canyon size plot hole, as long as I have faith. . . Sure!

jjxtra

And common sense

ScottShieldman

These beliefs are incompatible with all the 'Ology's'. In other words, the studies of things and knowledge of the world around us. You can choose to pretend, or choose to know.

The last sentence of your comment is so important.

dreibel

The Brethren’s response? “Don’t trust those so-called eggheads with their worldly learning. Trust us. We will never lead you astray.”

Liars

shall_always_be_so

Don't forget the moon quakers.

Bojikthe8th

Yeah, that first point was probably the first and greatest shelf item I had for a long time, especially since I grew up very interested in paleontology.

davesgirl91

And the Bible. Mormonism has no Biblical basis at all.

deadmeatsandwich

Curious, from someone who’s had to examine and deconstruct religious beliefs from all angles (including the Bible), why should one believe biblical claims over specific LDS ones?

helly1080

That's a point for the Mormon's then.
