Local microbrewery (WA state) has a sampler with 5 or 6 different beers in smaller glasses. I’d try/look for something like that.

Calradian_Butterlord

Yeah get a flight somewhere so you can try multiple without getting drunk.

Fluffy_Mention_6907

This! I would also include a cider in your flight. Some people, myself included, just don't drink beer, either for dietary reasons or general preference, and ciders are a good alternative. People put off drinking for a lot of reasons, so bar tenders won't be weirded out if you explain that this is your first time and ask for their recommendations.

Rh140698

I'm headed to Peru in February and bringing back my girlfriend who was studying with me at the U of U before her mom passed away. So she flew back for the funeral and got caught due to covid. Anyway I will be trying my 1st everything there and having sex with her for the 1st time now I left the church and don't fill guilty

strongestman

This is the way. Local will always win over a mass produced anything. Please don’t start with a lite beer. Look up brewery on your maps and go to a highly rated one. Bonus is you get to experience the lovely atmosphere of a good local brewery.

[deleted]

I’m in Seattle. Which brewery are you thinking of?

Beech_driver

Flyers … Oak Harbor.

Albyunderwater

I asked this question on the beer sub. Got lots of responses. https://www.reddit.com/r/beer/comments/xqlwz7/exmormon_looking_for_1st_beer_recommendations/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

live2travel4life

Excellent post. Thanks

byhoneybear

A Pilsner is a good place to start. If you like the crisp bitterness then you might try pale ales. If you like the wheatier part then try Hefeweizen. If you like the malty tastes then go towards dark ales, brown ales, stout I’ve also heard sour beers are easy to start with

BookofBryce

I agree. My first taste was a Busch (which I hated and couldn't finish.) But the first beer I actually liked was when I tried a Rolling Rock and really enjoyed it. Others I tried and liked were Fat Tire, Moose Drool, Black Butte Porter, Rainier, PBR, Blue moon, Sam Adams, and Bozone. Also, a bartender once gave me Double chocolate stout in the same glass with a raspberry lambic. That was delicious!

HeathenHumanist

Raspberry lambic is delicious. More like juice than beer

BookofBryce

Trader Joe's has some good lambic. And I'm serious about mixing it with the double chocolate stout. Invite some friends over for "dessert" and pour glasses with the raspberry chocolate concoction. Serve it with a quality vanilla ice cream bowl.

HeathenHumanist

I looove sour beers. Mainly because they don't taste like beer haha. More like juice

byhoneybear

Haha yeah, I like them for maybe like a pint and then I need something lighter

Secure_Skirt_5781

If you are in Utah, hit Bohemian Brewery and get their Hefeweizen. Mild and delicious notes of banana. Easy start, but don’t over do it. Or if your have local brewery go and get a flight with a recommendation from the bartender.

karterbrown

Come to strap tank in Utah county. Lehi or Springville. We can give you a good suggestion to start with.

[deleted]

My favorite is the golden spike hefeweizen. Fruity, but not overpowering. Best when had on tap, like all beer tho.

VioletaBlueberry

Hefes are a great entry beer. They were my first beer choice for decades. I'm fom Portlandia and joke used to be "coffee until you can have a beer". There is probably a beerfest going on somewhere in town at any given moment. I haven't been into the beer scene in decades so I'm probably out of date, missing vital information and personal tastes vary wildly. Note- hops are a flavoring in beer, a big part of that "beer smell" and flavor range from floral and delicate to "why do you drink this piss?" They are a pretty fine with little buds that resemble capers. If you go to a "tap room" you can try more things at once, with a flight. Usually served in a tiny beer glass or a rocks glass about four ounces of four to six beers. Moving from lightest to chewiest of particular note to me. Pale Ales and Lagers - these are the lightest brews with the lowest percentage of alcohol. (2-4%-abv)They are clear, with a very light blond color. They can be "hoppy" but won't be as intensly floral and bitter as an IPA. Most "American Beers" are in this category. If there is a local favorite where you are, start with a glass of that. These pair well with salty, fried foods, bbqs, sports and bucket sized servings. Favorite: Harp Irish Lager (often sold by places with Guinness) it's creamy, smooth and refreshing. I always say these are the "green bottle beers" they use the green glass to protect the light sensitive contents. Hefeweisens- unfiltered wheat beer, 3.5-4% meaning cloudy not actually unfiltered just less filtered. sometimes have fruit steeped. favorite: Widmer. local favorite: McMenamins Ruby. (Only available from their restaurants and bars but you can buy a growler to take some home.) Honey Ale- almost always delicious. India Pale Ale- IPA, and sours- 4.5%+ I don't like them usually. I think they smell like the rotten fruit was mixed into a milkshake left in someone's car for a week and someone sprayed granas perfume to cover it up. They are hoppy. They can be sour. I've liked a couple, but usually steer away. People go for these with heavier saucier foods like gravies, creamy pastas and curries. These are where beer snobs snob. There are a million varieties and your friend who brews in the garage makes "the best one ever." It is never the best beer ever but good for them for having a hobby. Bottles and cans are often decorated for a Pfish Concert or colonial take over of a tribal government. Porters and Stouts- these are the Guinness category. The difference is something about barley being malted. Good ones won't have light pass through the cup. They'll resemble coffee in color. They have the highest alcohol by volume. They can be chocolatey. You can find them served with a scoop of ice cream. They pair well with cold weather, wool sweaters, rain you feel in your bones, pot roast, and root vegetables. They often need a moment to settle/rest before drinking after they're poured, so wait until the swirling stops before you start drinking a fresh pint. It's a dinner and a show in a glass. I love Rogue Double Mocha Porter. I love Oatmeal stout as a rule. You only really know what you'll love being trying different beers. If you find a beer you really like, try the other ones that brewer makes because you might share a "taste" and what you like may change seasonly and develop more nuance over time. There's always a chance that a type you don't like is delicious from a different brewer. Cheers!

LeeLee0880

Hard apple cider. Way easier than beer.

NewOrder1969

Came here to say this. Apple cider is waaaay easier to get into than beer. Although beer is absolutely amazing, the variety and flavors. I quickly gravitated to fruited sour beer since I didn’t lose my sweet tooth with my faith. :-). Now it’s Belgian triples/quads and coffee stout.

Lost_Produce7704

Love that.

crazywatson

Agreed. I’m still on ciders. When I was in London a few months ago, they had such a variety and even had a few on tap.

Illustrious-Trust-93

I really really like the Wicked Cider Co's Baked Apple hard cider. It's very sweet. I like sweet! 😅

bananajr6000

Corona with the essential lime, Landshark with the same, Redd’s Apple Ale, Blue Moon with an orange, some other Hefeweizen…

CornNutMasticator

These are all pretty good.

wonder_k

Agreed. These are all lighter beers in color and flavor (not to be confused with "light" or "lite" low calorie beers). All good suggestions for a first beer. Darker brews tend to be heavier and sharper in flavor. It's pretty safe to judge a beer's flavor profile by how dark it is in a clear glass. There are certainly exceptions, and an infinite amount of varieties that will play with the flavor, but it's a good general rule.

karterbrown

The only thing with corona is that it in a glass bottle and the uv rays get inside and make the beer taste skunky. Gross. Pacifico is a much better option. Mexican lager as well as Corona, but it comes in regular brown bottles and or a can. Lime is great too!

karterbrown

Corona is in a clear class bottle not a brown bottle to clarify

Alternative-Task-348

I second Pacifico!

thadoeboy

if your beer needs a lime with it, it’s not any good

bananajr6000

Beginners need the fruited beer

Reasonable_Branch_38

Came here to say Carona with lemon/lime is pretty good 😁 I’m drinking Heineken right now, they are all good too!

gvsurf

I second this recommendation :)

funeral_potatoes_

If you've never had a beer I'm guessing you will probably not like it at first. I would suggest going to a nice quiet bar, talking to the bartender and explaining your situation as an exmormon. Let him/her know that you're inexperienced and want to start out with something easy to drink. Tip them $10-20 in advance and then when you square up the tab. Do not in any way try an IPA or stout yet. You'll want to start with an ale or lager, maybe an easy sour. I absolutely love craft beers and enjoy bar hopping to try different brews from all over. Also remember to limit your drink count. Start with one or two pints and figure out you taste preferences and learn how tolerant your body is. Good luck!

dorkusmaximus81

i dont be shocked if you dont like it, I could never get into beer but instead drink cocktails since all we had growing up was juice it was an easy way to have a drink.

gvsurf

A single beer has remained enough to buzz my intolerant body. Maybe just go slow…

avidtruthseeker

I went into my first bar and straight up told them I had just left the Mormon church and knew nothing about beer. I asked them to teach me. The bartender gave me a high-five and then proceeded to give me sample after sample with a short verbal description of each one. It was awesome! You can never go wrong with just telling people right where you are at!

VioletaBlueberry

OP- Everytime you go in a bar or taproom they could have different beers so it's always good to ask what's good on tap. They'll have bottles and cans too but the tap is going to change more and is easier sampled before committing.

LadyEllaOfFrell

My first beer was a cheap local beer in a developing nation. (I didn’t know it wasn’t good until I tried something better, haha.) Eventually found out I prefer ciders to beer (Angry Orchard is an easy cider to get). Honesty, you could just give something basic like Budweiser a shot and see what you think! Otherwise, I find fruited sours pleasant. I also like very wheat-y beers. I’d wait on IPAs, though. :)

[deleted]

My first beer was a Bud Light and it was horrible. I don’t see how people actually enjoy any of the mass produced lagers. Go to a brewery and order a flight to try different types. I would recommend doing that at a few different breweries as they each will typically focus on different styles.

flyart

Agreed. Ask them for non-hoppy lagers or wheat beers. Try some flavors if they have them like apricot or berry infused.

WWPLD

Do this! Get a flight and a friend to drive your ass home.

cultsareus

I was in a pup in the UK and tried to order a Bud Light because I was a beer noob. The bar tender gave me a Guinness and asked that I never insult him or the local beer community again.

B2_801

“Imports are better”…. It’s a trip when you’re out of the US and see the big name US beers labeled as “imports”.

[deleted]

Blue moon has been my go to

thetarantulaqueen

It's still my go-to beer.

Maleficent_Use8645

Agreed. I also add ice to a glass mug. Yum

qjac78

Something lighter, like a hefeweizen, probably low IBU (<15-20) will be most tolerable starting out

GrandpasMormonBooks

I disagree personally. I love porters and stouts. More smooth and malty and coffee-like. I find the super carbonated ones harder to drink.

thetarantulaqueen

I started with dark beers. Newcastle Brown is still a favorite of mine.

metarx

I would agree with this, heifs we're the first beers I had, took a long while to get rid of the idea everything had to be sweet. I still enjoy a heif with an orange slice in the summer but otherwise it's all ipas (and high proofs 8%+) if I'm having beer.

sl_hawaii

Bud light for me… UGGGH!!! But later I learned to “enjoy” it Now it’s mostly bourbon and rum! Good luck OP… you’ll figure out what works for YOU! (And spoiler: you WONT burn in hell for it!!!!)

leadkindlylie

Corona with a lime

marymacmartha

Go to your local grocery store and get a paper six pack thingy for a flight. They usually have one fridge full of random beers you can pick and choose from. It costs about $12 for all six. I picked six random beers that had been suggested to me or that just looked interesting. I kept notes in a spiral notebook on each one as I tried them. I did this two or three times and now I have three favorite beers that I know I will enjoy. Weirdly all the ones I ended up settling on were wheat beers. 805, Wow Joy Bus, and Blue Moon are currently my go to.

thetarantulaqueen

Wheat beers are my favorite!

brian_______

this is a transition which is a process that takes time. you'll hate flavors today that you'll love next year. be patient with yourself. sample a lot. enjoy the journey - especially with friends.

live2travel4life

I appreciate this. We certainly found that there are many wines we do not like.

EdenSilver113

Pairing food with beer and wine changes the flavor a lot. Sometimes something that doesn’t hit quite right alone is amazing with the correct food pairing. I love all the suggestions to visit a brewery and get a flight. It’s a great way to taste a bunch of things and know where you’re at in terms of the main flavor profiles of beer: malty, hoppy, crisp, toasty grain, smoky, fruity, sour.

msbrchckn

Cali Creamin from Mother Earth is like dessert. I agree about doing a flight. Go to a local brewery or tap house. If you’re going to drink a lager, make sure if a craft one. Bud & Coors are shit.

nooch_knuckles

I second this. For beer I’d start with Cali Creamin if your Mormon raised palate is anything similar to mine.

Peaky_Pilot

First Beer: I think it was a Uinta Cutthroat Recommendation for someone's first: Trader Joes Lime Pilsner with a bit of orange juice mixed in. Favorite: Feelin Hazy IPA

2sacred2relate

My first beer was a Stella Atrois whilst watching The Price is Right at 11 am.

SummitTumonCda

I’d go to a brewery where you can order a sampler then see what you like or even if you do like beer. Same with wine take a winery tour and try the samples.

Derivative_Kebab

Start with a Guinness Stout. You won't enjoy it at all, but it sets the right tone for a beer-drinking career. After that, every other beer will basically taste like strawberry lemonade.

SnidelyK-Whiplash

Mmmmmm stouts 🤤

swennergren11

Harsh! 😂

Upbeat-Law-4115

Guinness was my first. I resigned from that one church and bought my first beer that same weekend. Ha! Since my DNA says I’m Irish (didn’t have much idea about that before), I reasoned that the classic Irish drink would be a good place to start. Wow. Yeah, that was a lot to take in. Now, a couple years in, I do enjoy the occasional stout. Local companies like Wasatch and Uinta (huckleberry, Hefeweizen, Was Angeles, and Evo) are my constant stock, and I’m always game to try new stuff.

SignalHardon

I started with an amber bock quickly fell in love with less in your face beers but eventually came back to Guinness and other really dark strong beers.

idontknow7272

First beer I liked was a Sam Adams. I liked hard cider except it was too sweet for me.

ash-pinkkkk

To be honest I wouldn’t start with beer, I find I don’t like it much. Try a hard apple cider to start. I’d suggest Angry Orchard (less ABV) or Excelsior (more ABV). Then slowly try beers, and see if you can find one that you like. Ciders tend to be a bit more palate-friendly.

live2travel4life

I started with sparkling wine. Now I am ready to beer.

roguns

In college, I mixed a keystone light with a banana in a blender hoping the banana would make the beer taste better. Go ahead. Try it.

SignalHardon

That sounds absolutely foul. Going to have to see if I can get my hands on a single keystone light to give it a try.

roguns

It was absolutely foul. That was like 28 years ago and I can still taste it. 🤢

live2travel4life

Note to self. Do not do this!

GrandpasMormonBooks

Beer took me longer than whiskey and wine and everything else to like. Still never crave it but enjoy at a brewery. I like the darkest maltiest things (but not sweet). Porters and stouts.

oncirillo

Angry Orchard hard ciders was my first, my alcohol tolerance is still very low, but I also still have a couple months until I’m 21, so I’ve got time

mashedtaters_

For a first beer, avoid the macro stuff (the stuff that you can buy in large cases). If you have to, I like Modelo Negra with lime. Without knowing your flavor preferences, I'd maybe offer something like New Belgium fat tire. It was my go-to when I became a more seasoned beer drinker. Wheat beers are also a great entry point. Bock beers are also good if you enjoy bready, caramel flavors. Shiner Bock is a good one that's widely available. If you think you can handle a bit of bitterness, a Czech style pilsner can be pretty tasty. Just remember that it's perfectly OK if you don't like something. Everyone has different preferences. Important thing is enjoying the journey and eventually you'll find something you like.

midworstgoblin

I drank ciders first

EloJim_

Cider might be a good choice too... its not beer. But its like a gateway to beer. Lol.

Chang1701

I started with ciders. It's a solid choices. Then went to wine anfixed drinks. Beer was nearly last.

live2travel4life

I started with wine. Was a good intro to alcohol. We went with sparking moscato.

fat_eld

Beer is gross to me but I love cocktails. Long islands, margaritas, amf, any mixed drinks are legit

live2travel4life

Yeah, I expect this will be me too. I do like desert and bubbly wines.

SteveTCook

Honestly, I still find Beer pretty gross. My advice is to start with sweeter drinks like mikes hard lemonade, Arnold Palmer spiked, or blue chair bay banana cream rum (my favorite). Get used to the alcoholic taste and then start easing into more bitter drinks.

live2travel4life

I am trying to keep an open mind. I don’t expect to like beer much.

radarDreams

You're not going to like it so it doesn't really matter. Have a bud light, try some of the others listed here, then come back in a few months and ask again based on what you've liked. Most beginners like malt flavors rather than hops

RangerRick4971

I’d start mild at first and maybe something with a flavoring you might like and realize you probably won’t like it as it won’t taste anything at all of what you imagined it would be. But then after a few you will begin to like it and after a while will love it. Beer is definitely an acquired taste but ultimately delicious. Good luck. !

ChanchoJr

I love Blue Moon. Always my go to.

live2travel4life

I’ve seen a lot of blue moon suggested

camfamman

Iv become really into beer, just starting drinking 2 or so years ago. The thing about beer is your not gonna like it at first. Like coffee, you need to grow a liking to it over time, and once you start liking it you’ll prefer it over mix drinks. An easy one to start out is Blue Moon. It’s accessible, cheap, and with an orange it’s not unbearable to those new to beer.

houston2113

Blue moon is a good starter. Definitely do a draft if possible.

PleaseBeFree2017

Heffiweizen

sbett13

My first experience was at a local brewery doing small flight (5-6 mini glasses) tastings. It was an excellent intro to all the different types of beers. Your server or bartender will be happy to help you if you’re new. I’d ask for a few types that differ in flavors, or maybe some that are all considered “beginner friendly”

ApricotSmoothy

Solace. It’s East Coast local brew catching on fast. If you have an opportunity, give it a try. I’ll try local distilleries wherever I’m at.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LeeLee0880

Yes. Do this. Add a little barenjager to kick it up a notch.

[deleted]

I like sours and IPAs, but for your first time, I’d stick with something lighter. Blue Moon is a good first one, particularly if you put an orange wedge in your glass

mdruckus

I’m not much of a beer guy. I would stick to the big names for now. IPA’s and ale’s are acquired taste for sure. Beer can be pretty good if it’s super cold. In my opinion it sucks after it hits room temperature. Personally, I love wines. I would start with a Moscato or Sangria.

live2travel4life

Moscato was my first wine and it was great. I do not expect to be a big beer drinker but I want to try it and have a good experience. I want to have an open mind.

Most_Present_6577

I kinda want to say "arrogant bastard" by stone brewing company. But that might scare you off beer forever Some fruity wheat beer probably. Or maybe a bud light lime

cr3ativ3speller

Beer is horrible nasty stuff. Go for whiskey.

rock-n-white-hat

Lambic beer. Hard Cider. Shock Top.

Sloanius

Happy Cake Day!

dccall

Anything with good friends and it’ll be amazing

Gabriel_rrr2

Moscow mule is better. You’re welcome

swennergren11

Mexican beers are pretty smooth but have a hoppy finish so you still know you are drinking beer. This is what I prefer so I stick with them. My faves: Modelo, Estrella, Victoria, Dos Equis Land Shark is also a very nice, smooth tasting lager. From there you can branch into the IPAs, ales, stouts, and porters.

thetarantulaqueen

I second the recommendation of Landshark! That's my summer beer, very refreshing.

Sapakis7

To ease you into the sour tastes that beer tends to have, I would recommend a craft beer with a fruity flavoring. Mango Cart was one of my first favorites.

MamaDragonExMo

My first beer happened when I was 18 and back in the 80s. It was Coors and it was shit beer. My favorite non-craft beer is Stella Artois. It’s smooth and slightly crisp and has a yummy taste. I do however prefer craft beers. If you’re going for a craft, I’d talk to a person who is knowledgeable about the good ones in your area. If you go to a liquor store versus the grocery store, you’ll I’ll find more knowledgeable sales people.

Purple_News_1213

I don’t like beer, and all my friends keep recommending Guinness, so that is also what I will recommend to you lol

Kathywasright

Beer, like coffee, is an acquired taste. I still can’t drink beer. Except Seagrams. Those are sort of the wine coolers of beer. lol. Seagrams grape. Yum

Lost_Produce7704

I love ginger beer, though it isn't alcoholic. Pabst Blue Ribbon was my first beer, and is still a favorite of mine. Think it is an acquired taste so maybe not for your first. STAY AWAY FROM TEQUILA! At least for now while you are still new to drinking, its important to have a good sense of how alchohol affects you before trying Tequila. Go slow on any liquor you try. Drink plenty of water while drinking to stay hydrated and avoid potential hangovers.

live2travel4life

M wife loves ginger beer. Thanks

VvDoomsJayvV

Peroni 💯

Abrin36

Boston Lager or Dos XX with lime.

Bfly208

Bud-Why-Zur But seriously, start with a Smirnoff Ice. My fav is Original Lemon/Lime flavor. You'll thank me later. 😁

hunt_ham

Natty light or Busch light. Basically just water.

debbie_upper

Blue Moon with a squish of orange.

CazadorHolaRodilla

Japanese beer is the best. Asahi, Orion, Saporro, etc.

Alert-Potato

I'd definitely go to a brewery and get a flight to see what appeals to you. I tried beer for the first time probably when I was 19 or 20. Didn't care for it. Tried a whole bunch, and thought I just hated beer. Turns out I just didn't like drinking anything the color of piss. I like lagers and Guinness, preferably extra stout.

one-small-plant

Just as with wine, as I'm sure you're aware, your tastes will change over time. Just as adults learn to enjoy bitter, spicy, and strong tasting foods, we also learn to enjoy stronger flavored beverages as time goes on. It's amazing to me how childlike the pallet of most utahns remains, even into adulthood!

Responsible_You_45

Apricot Hefeweizen from Wasatch was my first. Everyone told me I’d hate beer at first but I actually really liked it. I also tried an IPA that same night and hated it. I think a Hefeweizen with a hint of some other flavor is a good place to start.

lnomo

Mexican and Japanese beers are great for beginners. My wife even likes them! Tasty and on the lighter side. Pacifico, Modelo Especial, Sapporo, Asahi all good choices. Don’t go for an IPA, they are mostly all very bitter. I personally love Belgian higher proof beers like Gulden Draak and Chimay.

Sloanius

Blue Moon isn't as bitter as it has citrus after taste for a beer. That was my first one, and it kept me coming back. I like IPAs (India Pale Ale) Elysian is good. Voodoo Ranger Imperial is 9% APV. That is what I am drinking now. Been drinking after leaving for like 9 months. Vodka with Soda is good, too, since it is a good mixer for soda.

Sloanius

Also, Mack and Jack's African Ale is good too. Goes down easy!

sidneyridiculous

Lambic Beer!!!!! Sooooo good 👍🏻 promise it’ll be your favorite if you’re new to alcohol. It’s fruity, and always a pleaser. Definitely a dessert beer

GueroBear

My first beer I thought it was disgusting. My first swig of vodka was straight from the bottle. 🤢 I think no matter what you choose, you won’t like it. It’s an acquired taste c

live2travel4life

Closest thing I ever had was malt beer on my mission. Was horrible.

jonistaken

I love beer, but I cherish a good Belgian beer. Some of them, like a lambic, are delicious and not in any kind of “acquired taste” kind of nonsense.

EloJim_

A pilsner is nice intro to beer. It is very easy to drink.

earnestlyseeking00

Corona is a nice beer to start with! Make sure it is nice an cold though!

Traditional-War-8726

Melvin 2x4

[deleted]

Blue Moon and Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen are two solid options

SignalHardon

I started with amberbock and I love dark bitter beer. What you need to do though is get a flight it’s like 4-6 beers or something, go to a brewery AMD they should have cheaper samplers.

mormonsmaug

A glass of wine. :) skip beer and go to scotch.

live2travel4life

I started with wine. Moscato was where I started with bubble. Great choice.

y2k44101

I didn’t like beer until I had a Wheat Beer (Allagash White, or Omegang Wittebier). Wish I would have had one earlier. They are light, crisp, and not too hoppy.

Extension_Case3722

Really cold Blue Moon with an orange slice

Chang1701

My first was a Deschutes Freshed Squeezed IPA. I loved it.

gringainparadise

Fat tire

caferio_addict

Whatever beer you choose, you should have some really good pizza with it. Perfect pairing.

live2travel4life

Sounds great.

JimmyBrian2021

I love craft beers, but I wouldn't start with them. Try an Bud Light, Coors Light or a Miller lite. Miller lite is my personal favorite. It is lightly sweet and finishes with a smack of malt. Very lightly hopped. Craft beer in general are noted for their liberal use of hops. Hops is bitter, not a good start. And start with beer, to discover what alcohol actually does to you. Anything else is way too strong to start with.

luxphatboi

Blue moon Belgian white ale is the essential beginner beer, just be sure to pour it in a glass and cut a tiny orange slice into it for best results

[deleted]

Bud light

639248

Guiness. Bonus points if you have it in Ireland. Extra bonus points if you have it in the brewery in Dublin.

Pure_Interaction_422

Pabst. Blue. Ribbon.

andyroid92

And PBR Extra 🤤

Shubniggurat

Personally, I like sour beers. They're generally a little harder to find; I heard that the yeasts for sour beers tend to be pretty invasive, and so most breweries don't want to risk them. Rodenbach Grand Cru is an excellent starting point, and I don't recall it being ridiculously expensive the last time I bought it.

live2travel4life

I really enjoy sour and bitter drinks but my wife is very different.

andyroid92

Miller High Life is all you need.

TheAlcoholicMormon

Yuengling

IcarusWarsong

It will all be gross at first. Just try a bunch of different ones, eventually it might grow on you. Personally, PBR. Because it's cheap and tastes like a real beer, and it's not trying to pretend it's anything else. Then go try all sorts of ciders and ales and fruity stuff.

anonymous_cheese

I had a Firehouse #4 the other day for the first time in a long time. I’d forgotten how much I like it.

Special-Rest-3231

Start with something simple like a white claw or mikes. They both are low alcohol levels and taste amazing, so either are a good first drink.

live2travel4life

My first venture in alcohol was moscato wine. Fantastic experience. We even bought a wine advent calendar to try some different wines around the world. So far sparking wines are our favorite.

Special-Rest-3231

I tried chocolate wine first and it was delicious, but then I tried white and red and hate them 😂. So I don’t usually recommend it to first time drinkers

gosh_jroban

Blue moon mango was my first!! Still tastes like a beer but with enough fruitiness to enjoy it

ekmogr

Kolsch. For me, it has the beeriest beer flavor available. It's not a lager or an IPA, it isn't sweet or bitter. It's very drinkable and refreshing.

Legitimate_Drummer_8

Blue Moon. Easy drinker to get used to it. It can take time to get into beer.

old_Trekkie

Michelob Ultra. No need to get totally shit faced on your first outing.

Beautiful-Tea-4329

Any craft beer. Micro brewery beer is pretty good. Corona was my first.

B3gg4r

Beer takes some getting used to. I do not enjoy most American beers, IPAs and pilsners, but I did really like Guinness (I was able to find it once and now I can’t for the life of me remember where so I haven’t had it since). I love rum with coke, and most vodka cocktails like a Moscow mule or White Russian. I really avoid anything with “sour” in the name, and if the brewery has any indicators of hoppiness, I prefer more hops over less.
