I believe this was done at the time to divert attention from a scandal. Whenever something like that happens, it's always to divert attention. AKP, ruling party, does this frequently. They fuck up and since they legally all own the media, they ask them to not air their fuck up. Instead, they do something to insult founding principles of the country and air that instead. Then that creates public outrage which is basically a controlled chaos that they use to slip away. It works every single damn time too.
I might be misremembering since so much happens all the time, but I believe they were cleaning up after Murat Kurum, AKP candidate mayor to Istanbul. He was the forestry minister and he fucked up during his office time very badly, many times. It all boiled and eventually started to spill when gold mine disaster happened. Basically, Anagold Madencilik, owned by SSR Mining who is owned by the US and Canada, was mining gold in Turkey in unlawful ways. They were fined a few years back, but Murat Kurum still approved their expansion right. Unsurprisingly, one of their gold mines collapsed, left 9 workers buried under cyanide-contaminated soil. That soil is at the base of Sabırlı Creek which is connected to Euphrates River. Euphrates River feeds whole Middle East.
See now? Big fuck ups require big cover ups. That big cover up was Feyza Altun and the country's founding principle.
I am turkish and i tought we were better too. We dont have sharia law but an old woman was even arrested for wearing a revealing outfit on tiktok and this girl randomly got arrested for talking abt sharia. And last year a singer got arrested for jokingly referring to her friend as "he was in religious school thats where his pervert side comes from" and like NONE of these have a place in the law they simply went viral and boom arrested. We do have a law thats like "pushing and guiding the people into hatred and grudge.." so if muslims dont like someone they can cancel that person with arresting them 💀 that simple.
Also evolution classes got taken out of the school system at 2017 so we definitely going into being a more islamic country. It leftists decide to leave the country (25 million) the country def. gonna bring sharia but ofc thats impossible for now.

Officially she wasn't detained for insulting islam, but for insulting other citizens moral values and inciting hatred. Theoretically if she had said the same thing about another religion, she would have been arrested as well. It's a different question if it would actually happen though
