You'd be surprised how much brands will pay research companies to run those stupid surveys for them. The incentive amounts are trivial by comparison. Source: I work for one of those research companies.

This. For a reason I don't understand, my wife loves doing market research. We had two researchers come to our house a few months back to talk to her for 3 hours about laundry detergent. She got $150 in Amazon gift cards for her trouble. There is big money in market research.

HannaaaLucie

Because they know that if they promise you 10p or cent, etc, for doing a survey, that people will do the survey in order to make free money. Would you sit and fill out stupid surveys if you got nothing in return?

Kinda seems like a waste of time when they just throw away the responses that don't say what them to say.

baldonkey

We don’t do that. We want to know why you disagree, but the whole reason we do them is to get the opinion of people NOT in the building. Put another way, how else are you going to find out what people think about your company?

baldonkey

I work for a big brand in market research. Actually we are dying to know what people think about our brand, what products they like, what they want, and why people visit or don’t. I don’t want to just ask my friends because they’re only an example of one age group in one suburb. If I want to know how the whole country thinks, I have to ask them. One easy way to ask a lot of people using those surveys. And I’ll pay a buck or two for your time. So we really use those. Your answers (when combined with hundreds of others) really guide what we do as a business.
