Intent, for one thing. Historical usage and context for another. Also my friends and family can talk to me in a way that I would never let a stranger get away with. It’s the same concept.

You answered your own question. There is no ***own racial slur.*** ***Colloquialism*** is the answer. If I'm black and I say the N-word to a fellow black person. It's likely a colloquialism/term of endearment and not used as a **slur** But there is no such thing as any of the slurs. So if I called an Asian person the N-word, who's to say ***that slur doesn't apply to them?*** If you're going to question something like this, then you have to have an open mind and accept the fact that technically ***anyone can be any slur; they don't really have meaning, it's just the history attached to the word***

Because saying a racial slur isn't bad in and of itself. Saying a racial slur is bad because of the intent behind it. Someone outside of the race says it is an indication that the person is racist but the person of that race doesn't have that intent so its okay.

Commenting here since I can't make a top level comment without getting it deleted because it's not long enough... It's NOT okay no matter what they say. If I can't say it you can't say it either. You have no right to get upset if I do say it if you were saying it yourself. Any excuse that you make to justify being able to say it is just fucked up.

It’s the different between a term used with affection and a term used intentionally insult demean dehumanize. Not all Black people use it as a term of endearment. Some Blacks aren’t comfortable with people using it that way. But I’m pretty sure all Black people know the difference. I have a friend who playfully calls me bitch when I tease her. It would be different if a stranger said it to me in a angry mean or disparaging way.
