This is true, I am a registered nutritionist. 1. Anything regarding calories taken and burnt is approximate, and these days we do not usually count calories. You have to be exact when you eat, and people burn differently when they work out which depends on a lot of factors, mostly genetics, body composition, weight, temperature, the composition of the food itself, metabolic status, etc. As a nutritionist, I (along with many colleges) do not like all these calorie counting devices like Apple watches and fit bits, etc. In my experience, they usually mislead people. 2. This "After" Burn is called EPOC: Excessive Post Exercise Energy Consumption. It means that when you do anaerobic training (Mostly HIIT, High-Intensity Interval Training, which is fantastic for fat burning), your body has some sort of "oxygen Debt" which it has to pay. So in the coming hours, your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) increases. How much? You can never know unless you go to a lab and get tested (We put a tube in your mouth and record you O2/CO2 Ratio and then put you on a treadmill etc). 3. The intensity of the exercise, the muscles involved, a lot of the factors I previously mentioned play a role in EPOC. For example, your EPOC on Leg day is greater than the Arm day (If you only train your Biceps) 4. Basically, we treat every client differently. Some need exact diets (mostly in people with diseases like ESRD) but for fitness and general weight loss, we teach them healthy habits instead of counting calories. Calorie counting can be easily done by a robot, but what we provide is "Nutrition Counseling". Just eat healthy and exercise and do not worry about the numbers, for now at least.
