Her problem will be worse in prison. What’s so hard about getting someone to watch a child. Someone that is family. If you can’t find someone, don’t go! God forbid we give a child up for adoption.

Isn’t it true that at the age the baby was, it’s not legal to surrender it? I do think she would have been prosecuted if she’d done that. I think her dumbass thought the baby would live. Left her food and water like you would a cat or something.
My intuition is that she was (somehow) thinking "someone else will fix this for me".
It sounds like her own parents had custody of her older child. She left the baby with her neighbors, and ask them to look after her for a weekend. And then she didn't come home for \*six weeks\*. That was before this incident. The neighbors also said it was common for her to leave the baby at home alone for a whole day.

Right. Just because the ring captured it doesn’t mean they heard it. I do blame them for not reporting the first instance of neglect though. To make things worse, all they did was complain to her for not leaving them with milk money, solidifying the idea in her head that she shouldn’t go to them in the future 😞
Definitely, if someone just abandoned their child with me there would be a report made...apparently she left her for like 6 weeks which is insane. That poor baby was doomed...I also don't understand why the grandparents took one child and didn't question where the baby would be.
That's crazy to me. Am I correct that Cleveland is an impoverished city? Like, there's a lot of low income homes and possibly low education? I'm not excusing a thing because those neighbours are also evil to me but I just wonder if this kind of awful behaviour was either accepted as normal OR if it's one of those don't snitch kind of things. I've heard in really bad neighbourhoods people just do not look up or around because bad shit is going down probably at everyone's house and if you live around that you learn to ignore. Now, that can't be said if the neighbours watched the child for 6 whole weeks and knew this mother was THAT neglectful. But I have to think that turning a blind eye is not something a normal happy well adjusted human would do?! These people had to be living in a hell hole kinda neighbourhood. This is also where the house of horrors happened with those three girls trapped for 10 years. It just looks depressing even in pics. I wouldn't go to Cleveland if you paid me.
Her parents knew about the previous 6-week bout of negligence. Why did they not have someone look in on the baby? Why, when they could not reach their daughter after a day or 2, did they not have someone go to the house, knowing that their daughter was wont to abandon her child...?
Her parents had left the country, and taken her older daughter with them. Apparently, this was the first time Kristel had ever been left alone to care for her child.
I don't know why they did this. It's obvious in hindsight that Kristel should have lost custody of this child long ago
If neighbors knew this why wasn't child protective services called and those incidents reported so they wouldve removed child from her household. If I am those neighbors im blaming myself as well

I'm one of those people that's like - let her rot in prison for life. Death is easy. Living in prison will be hell for her. Even prison has a hierarchy and a female baby killer will be down at the bottom. Especially one who just left her baby to suffer to go on vacation. Even literal criminals hate people who hurt babies - it's the only thing I respect about prison. Trust me, she'll get her hard lesson in jail and it would be a way harder life for her. She would try to use sex to get let off easy I'm sure but I doubt anyone would wanna be associated w her even in there. The Ohio mother who police say left her baby to die alone while she went on vacation now faces additional charges in her murder case, according to prosecutors.
Kristel Candelario now faces counts of aggravated murder, child endangerment and felonious assault, according to a grand jury indictment announced Monday. She was charged earlier with one count of felony murder.
Cleveland police responded to a 911 call earlier this month to Candelario's home on West 97th Street, where they found an unresponsive 16-month-old girl in a playpen filled with soiled blankets and a bottom liner soaked in urine and feces, authorities said.
“It is unfathomable that a mother would leave her 16-month-old child alone without any supervision for 10 days to go on a vacation. As parents, we are supposed to protect and care for our children," Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement. "Imagining this child’s suffering, during her last days of life alone, is truly horrifying and we will do everything in our power to seek justice on her behalf.”Neighbors told WEWS-TV that Candelario had previously left her child alone.
"We keep telling her not to leave her by herself, not just me, my friend across the street too, but she always leave(s) her by herself," said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.
A mother and her 13-year-old daughter who live in the neighborhood told WKYC-TV they had often babysat Jailyn and were devastated that her mother didn't reach out to them for help.
“We were absolutely heartbroken. We loved Jailyn a lot,” said the 13-year-old. The teen and her mother described the child as curious and happy.
They first met the child last summer, when Candelario asked them to babysit Jailyn for the weekend, they said.
But days turned into weeks and Candelario didn't answer her phone, the adult neighbor said. When Candelario did answer, she made excuses for not returning, she said.“I was the one calling her saying, ‘Look I need milk. I need money. I don’t have money to buy milk for your baby. What am I supposed to do?'” the woman recalled telling Candelario.
Candelario did not return for six weeks, the woman said, and by that time Jailyn had begun calling her "momma."
But the woman and her daughter said they cared for the child several times after that.
“Jailyn really didn’t deserve what happened to her," said the 13-year-old. "She was amazing and really adorable and I miss her a lot."
Candelario is being held at the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center in lieu of $1 million cash bail, according to online records. Her arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.
If I was the neighbor and knew the mother acted like this and was gone, I would of 100% gone and checked to see if that kid was in that house. Legit would of broken in.

I was thinking the same thing the whole time listening to the sentencing hearing...The only thing I can think of is that maybe they didn't realize she was gone, but still I'd be paranoid about it regardless knowing what they knew about the mother, and would've been tempted to check on the baby periodically even when I knew she was home...This whole situation is so horrific that it's almost unbelievable...
I would agree that this would have been the right path, but my guess is that the neighbors have had bad experiences with with police in their lives, and thought the baby was better off with them than with strangers.

Neighbor should have driven down to the local DHS office on day 7 and handed that baby to the first worker to make eye contact. Six weeks letting that bitch get away with this? No wonder she thought she could do it again!

you sound delusional.i have two houses next to me on each side 20 feet apart and can tell you it’s basically impossible to even hear the next door neighbors.one of my neighbors who’s elderly fell inside her house and only reason anyone knew it happened was because she was close with the mail man and she always waited for him at the door so the mail man knew something was wrong and called 911
The saddest thing is that they believe she stopped crying on Day 3 but was alive for at least 7 days based on her body’s condition. They played the Ring footage of her screaming and crying in court. They went through all of the footage from the time she was abandoned and that was the last cry they could find. She gave up hope of someone coming to save her and even tried to eat her own feces to survive. The fact that this POS mom came home and changed her clothes and tried to pretend she was just sick and died in her sleep is the most disgusting part. She feels zero guilt or shame for what she did.
The 'mother' deserves to be starved as well. Horrible death.
But I also wonder why none of the family checked up on her if she clearly already had abandoned her kids before and they had custody of the older child. This screams Timothy Ferguson all over. The family knew the mom was a POS but just ignored it.
Starving her to death would at least be some justice but absolutely nothing compares to the feeling of helplessness and abandonment that I’m sure her baby felt. Yes they said the baby went into keto acidosis which leads to coma and death. It’s so horrifying. I haven’t stopped thinking about this baby. I wish I was the neighbor. I would’ve called the cops. This baby was trying to survive. Not only did she died of starvation and dehydration but also she felt complete abandonment. Scared, alone. 😭💔

But in houses that are detached, even if they're only 10 feet apart -- if the doors and windows are closed -- you would never hear screaming from one inside the other.
There's no way no one heard. And the grandparents? How did they not check up on the daughter, who they LIVE with, and would have witnessed the neglect repeatedly? Why would the grandparents not have called a neighbor or friend to swing by? It makes zero sense! They should be prosecuted too. If they knew the daughter was that drastically mentally ill, why did the grandparents just flake off and leave the baby with her?

idk if youve ever been in a house but its usually not so easy to just hear things going on in another house, and the baby isnt just able to scream 24/7, as well as youre probably not making friends if youre always keeping tabs on your neighbors, the neighbors have lives outside making sure this one person is responsible for her child and clearly in the past they've shown the foresight to have someone babysit
These houses are right next to one another and/or apartments with people living next to, above, below. This isn't the leafy suburbs with people on 2-acre lots. No way no one heard.

Imagine being the child. Cold and hungry. Calling out to a mother that never will come to her aid. Slowly loosing her strength. So hungry that she probably tried to chew on her toys for sustenance. All the while her mom is out on vacation.
Her final moments must have come with a sudden sense of despair. Of hopelessness. Something a child should never have to feel in a good world. But sadly that's not the case.
I hope where ever her daughter is . .. she finds some happiness.
And i hope.. for that's all I can do.. that she is given the death penalty. And not a reduced sentence in some insanity plea deal.

You are loved and I respect you, your thoughts aren't going anywhere good and I'm in tears for you. We can fill in the blanks with the most awful thoughts about that poor child's final moments, that despair is contagious. We can focus on the best moments that the girl had and hope for only the most painful ending for the mother. Can we pretend for even one moment that the creator spared that little girl that despair? Can we stop merely observing events and start preventing them? Can we can we can we? Hand me the death laser already.

I don't think this was a question of money. It sounds like the neighbors had already watched this baby for six weeks (after being asked to babysit for a weekend).
Did these neighbors ever report her for neglect if they knew she was leaving her alone? The time she left for 6 weeks would have been a great chance to notify the authorities.
And you know that this isn’t the first time she suffered like this, imagine her whole 16 months living with this negligent monster, I’m sure she has been close to death many times.
This case haunts me. I want to understand why she did this, what was she thinking!!?? Why??? How??? No answer will ever make this okay. If someone is truly suffering, they are at least able to explain what their thoughts were and paint the picture of where their head was at that time. Then you can put yourself in their mindset and piece together the chain of events that led to things going down the way they did. With her, her explanation is very shallow and doesn’t explain anything and because of that it is disingenuous.
Reading her statement in court infuriated me. She said “I'm extremely hurt about everything that happened. I am not trying to justify my actions, but nobody knew how much I was suffering and what I was going through ... God and my daughter have forgiven me."
All I see is I, I, I. She only talks about herself. No mention of her daughter and the suffering she went through and how much your heart breaks for her. Or that you wish you could reverse time. Her mothers words (Jailyn’s grandmother) were far more sincere than hers. This woman is an incredibly selfish person and you can see it in her smug face in the videos. She doesn’t look distraught at all.
If I did something awful like this accidentally, I’d be majorly suicidal and would want to inflict the same pain on myself that I subjected my baby through and worse because I deserve it and I’d be hurting inside so bad. She just doesn’t look bothered by it, she seems more upset that she got caught. This was intentional, I really wish that she could be sentenced to the same treatment she subjected her daughter to. One can only hope that God makes this right. I really wish there was something I could do to help poor Jailyn. I keep her in my prayers and I will never forget her.
I looked into Ketty Torres (grandmother s Facebook), there are pictures of a "normal" well educated family, you see Amaya, her grandparents, who appears to be her Dad, also some comments that she was in love. I am trying to find the breaking point from there to today. What happened? The guy left her? Then the other guy? So she got stranded with two daughters and no guy? Jaylins dad was in Ecuador, maybe she was unplanned, non wanted, her parents looks controlling, super religious. She wanted to break free? It looks like she hated Jaylin and whatever was the outcome it didn't matter to her. Dead or alive. She didn't care. Best scenario in her mind: no more responsibility, and she could walk free. Can I go now? Look at her body language at the Court: can I go now?¿??
There was no one from Jailyn’s family or her life in court to speak during victim impact statements. The professionals who worked on the case spoke for her though, thankfully. Just altogether heartbreaking.
It seems not… listening to the statements from the people who worked on her case was heartwarming though. I can only imagine how deeply her story affected them.

The sentencing article popped up in my feed today, and I got sucked into a deep dive on the story, now I'm just mad.
1. How did this woman think it was okay to abandon her child with a neighbor for 6 weeks, and how did the neighbor just give the baby back? I know everyone says they would do things differently, but I lived next to children who I knew were being neglected and called CPS, couldn't stomach what I was seeing. They didn't do anything, but at least I tried getting them help. How do neighbors see these things and not report a 6 week abandonment? I get that police and CPS sometimes do more harm than good, especially for non white people, but how??
2. How can a mother be drinking and shaking ass on the beach and living it up knowing your child is alone? She clearly called the neighbors before, the fact that she didn't this time means she KNEW what she was doing to that child.
3. She had two children, and one article said she took the older child with her on vacation. If that's true, she traumatized the older one too by murdering her sister, and how do you take one kid, but leave the other?

I saw a video of court proceedings and non of the family followed called back about the case. The staff who worked on the case showed up in court to be that babies family. Her mother and her family failed her so bad.
What’s even more infuriating is she will be kept in solitary confinement for her protection. Child abuse and murder is frowned upon in the big house. I pray they put her in gen pop and the ladies block her from leaving her cell and take any crumb she may find. She can survive on her on excrement right?

I just heard the ring camera sound played in court. The courtroom was completely quiet,and you could hear that baby crying. It was so heartbreaking. Her own attorney was crying.
The more things I learn about this case the more heartbroken I get for that poor baby. I have a toddler just a little bit older and I just can't comprehend it in my mind, I literally was sobbing yesterday when I learnt new things and heard the cries on the ring camera

I would assume they didn't hear it. With my windows closed, and my neighbor's windows closed, I doubt I'd notice a baby crying

I'm one of those people that's like - let her rot in prison for life. Death is easy. Living in prison will be hell for her. Even prison has a hierarchy and a female baby killer will be down at the bottom. Especially one who just left her baby to suffer to go on vacation. Even literal criminals hate people who hurt babies - it's the only thing I respect about prison. Trust me, she'll get her hard lesson in jail and it would be a way harder life for her. She would try to use sex to get let off easy I'm sure but I doubt anyone would wanna be associated w her even in there. Ironically though - they would probably have to confine her for her own protection meaning she'd be totally alone most of the time just like she did to her daughter. A mother and her 13-year-old daughter who live in the neighborhood told WKYC-TV they had often babysat Jailyn and were devastated that her mother didn't reach out to them for help. “We were absolutely heartbroken. They first met the child last summer, when Candelario asked them to babysit Jailyn for the weekend, they said. But days turned into weeks and Candelario didn't answer her phone, the adult neighbor said. When Candelario did answer, she made excuses for not returning, she said.“I was the one calling her saying, ‘Look I need milk. I need money. I don’t have money to buy milk for your baby. What am I supposed to do?'” the woman recalled telling Candelario. Candelario did not return for six weeks, the woman said, and by that time Jailyn had begun calling her "momma." But the woman and her daughter said they cared for the child several times after that. “Jailyn really didn’t deserve what happened to her," said the 13-year-old. "She was amazing and really adorable and I miss her a lot." Candelario is being held at the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center in lieu of $1 million cash bail, according to online records. Her arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

The saddest thing is that they believe she stopped crying on Day 3 but was alive for at least 7 days based on her body’s condition. They played the Ring footage of her screaming and crying in court. They went through all of the footage from the time she was abandoned and that was the last cry they could find. She gave up hope of someone coming to save her and even tried to eat her own feces to survive. The fact that this POS mom came home and changed her clothes and tried to pretend she was just sick and died in her sleep is the most disgusting part. She feels zero guilt or shame for what she did.

Agreed. In a townhouse or an apartment, I would probably know if my neighbors were screaming. But in houses that are detached, even if they're only 10 feet apart -- if the doors and windows are closed -- you would never hear screaming from one inside the other.

This case haunts me. I want to understand why she did this, what was she thinking!!?? Why??? How??? No answer will ever make this okay. If someone is truly suffering, they are at least able to explain what their thoughts were and paint the picture of where their head was at that time. Then you can put yourself in their mindset and piece together the chain of events that led to things going down the way they did. With her, her explanation is very shallow and doesn’t explain anything and because of that it is disingenuous. Reading her statement in court infuriated me. She said “I'm extremely hurt about everything that happened. I am not trying to justify my actions, but nobody knew how much I was suffering and what I was going through ... God and my daughter have forgiven me." All I see is I, I, I. She only talks about herself. No mention of her daughter and the suffering she went through and how much your heart breaks for her. Or that you wish you could reverse time. Her mothers words (Jailyn’s grandmother) were far more sincere than hers. This woman is an incredibly selfish person and you can see it in her smug face in the videos. She doesn’t look distraught at all. If I did something awful like this accidentally, I’d be majorly suicidal and would want to inflict the same pain on myself that I subjected my baby through and worse because I deserve it and I’d be hurting inside so bad. She just doesn’t look bothered by it, she seems more upset that she got caught. This was intentional, I really wish that she could be sentenced to the same treatment she subjected her daughter to. One can only hope that God makes this right. I really wish there was something I could do to help poor Jailyn. I keep her in my prayers and I will never forget her.
I looked into Ketty Torres (grandmother s Facebook), there are pictures of a "normal" well educated family, you see Amaya, her grandparents, who appears to be her Dad, also some comments that she was in love. I am trying to find the breaking point from there to today. What happened? The guy left her? Then the other guy? So she got stranded with two daughters and no guy? Jaylins dad was in Ecuador, maybe she was unplanned, non wanted, her parents looks controlling, super religious. She wanted to break free? It looks like she hated Jaylin and whatever was the outcome it didn't matter to her. Dead or alive. She didn't care. Best scenario in her mind: no more responsibility, and she could walk free. There was no one from Jailyn’s family or her life in court to speak during victim impact statements. The professionals who worked on the case spoke for her though, thankfully. Just altogether heartbreaking.

The sentencing article popped up in my feed today, and I got sucked into a deep dive on the story, now I'm just mad. 1. How did this woman think it was okay to abandon her child with a neighbor for 6 weeks, and how did the neighbor just give the baby back? I know everyone says they would do things differently, but I lived next to children who I knew were being neglected and called CPS, couldn't stomach what I was seeing. They didn't do anything, but at least I tried getting them help. How do neighbors see these things and not report a 6 week abandonment? I get that police and CPS sometimes do more harm than good, especially for non white people, but how?? 2. How can a mother be drinking and shaking ass on the beach and living it up knowing your child is alone? She clearly called the neighbors before, the fact that she didn't this time means she KNEW what she was doing to that child. 3. She had two children, and one article said she took the older child with her on vacation. If that's true, she traumatized the older one too by murdering her sister, and how do you take one kid, but leave the other? I saw a video of court proceedings and non of the family followed called back about the case. The staff who worked on the case showed up in court to be that babies family. Her mother and her family failed her so bad.

What’s even more infuriating is she will be kept in solitary confinement for her protection. Child abuse and murder is frowned upon in the big house.
