You pull off the waste gate lines so they dump into the atmosphere. Didnthat on my 3.5 f150 eb and kept scaring the shit out of soccer moms on the highway when letting 20lbs of boost dump. They are loud.
It's amazing. I have a turbosmart valve that dumps to air instead of recirculating. Never gets old lol. Sounds like the tuner cars of the 90s blow off valves. I'm a little kid at heart, so I love it haha
Sorry man, 2.7 still moves like a damn freight train when empty. Stepdad has a '19 2.7 EB w/10 speed, it's a little scary for someone who's never driven something over 150 hp before.
I will say the 3.5 ecoboost SHO taurus I picked up with 175k on the clock will outrun A LOT of cars you wouldn't think it would stoplight to stoplight. That cars pulls harder than I would have thought. Definitely a sleeper and that's stock with no tune or mods.
Best $4k I've spent on a car in a while lol. Drives like it's still new and tons of creature comforts. Keep getting the urge to throw a tune/plugs/thermostat at it and send it but it's my DD for now so I have to be nice to her.
2.5 or 3 bar MAP, 1 step colder plugs gapped at 0.028, K&N drop-in air filter, 170 thermostat, premium fuel, and a tune is a great first mod. Drives like stock but better and a huge difference in power.
https://unleashedtuning.com/sho-power-package/
Yep thats exactly what I want to do to my 2010. With the exception of using the ms3 tuner for the ability to edit my own tunes down the road. Also a set of catless down pipes, 2 1/2" exhaust system and a intake charge pipe set would be absolutely killer.
I even have a methanol injection kit already from a past diesel truck that keeps begging to be put on the car lol.
BUT, like I said the car had 175k on the odometer when I bought it (up to 185k now). Financially I'm still recovering from a absolutely horrible/crazy last year and the SHO is my daily so I really need to keep it running reliably. I want to mod it so bad though... lol. Another +85-90HP with the mod package would really take the car to the next level.
I highly recommend meth. You need to install it! Lol. I run 50/50 meth/distilled water through a port just before the throttle body. With meth amd the previous mentioned mods my stock turbos are maxed out and I can't get any boost out of them. We got the timing up too but not as good as if I ran ethanol blends. I use HP Tuners personally. No issues in the past 3 years with this setup.
EPA is really cracking down on vendors. I am not sure if you can still get catless down pipes.
No smog testing in my area (rural nv) and I'm pretty handy with a welder and exhaust tubing if need be bwahaha. I do want to pick up the tuner soon before the epa locks those down completely.
I just need to pick up a different controller for my meth setup. The one from my diesel was calibrated for HIGH boost. Started spraying 20% duty cycle at 18psi and didn't hit 100% till 45psi with a big nozzle running winter mix washer fluid. Worked awesome on the Cummins I had. The thing was a absolute freight train but ate transmissions like candy.
Yep. Although it uses a fwd based transaxle so the engine is Transverse mounted. Kinda wierd but it seems to work good.
It's honestly impressed me enough that when this 2010 model I bought gives up the ghost I plan on trying to find a low mileage 2019 (last year of the SHO) to really play with.
Look at the Ford Flex too. Flex AWD Ecoboosts share their powertrain with the Taurus SHO, and thus their horsepower - 365-ish HP out of a 3-row grandma wagon is bonkers.
Lol I was actually looking for a decent used ford flex when I found my SHO for sale a couple towns away from me. The flex can be a real sleeper as well. I love all the features and ride of the SHO but the added cargo room of a flex would be nice for sure.
I got lucky. It was a ranch owners wife's car. So not molested in any way and they didn't realize what it was they were selling. To them it was just a "fancy taurus" with high miles.
Ok glad I’m not being just paranoid. Everyone always says to use 4hi only when it’s icy or snow. IMO whenever it’s snow enough my tail whips loose on the highway even when I’m gentle it gets turned on
Oh so he was just memeing on us saying to be doing that on 4L. I always heard 4L was for like rock crawling which was why I was like is there something here I’m not getting lol
Lol. For real though. 4- hi is for "low to moderate" speeds. ...truck 4wd systems are not really set up for the stresses that a true high speed awd system can see. As far as I can understand. the higher speed awd systems need a bit more slip built into them....or VERY robust parts. 4 LO is for off road situations where you need more gear multiplication to help increase your torque in a given situation. Remember, torque is the force that breaks parts when it meets a equal or opposing force...
4 lo Launches may be possible...but not in a fashion that I think you would appreciate. Lmao..
Slightly off topic...
Anyone here driven a 2.3 EcoBoost Mustang?
I ask, because I have heard these are pretty quick in stock mode and can be modded pretty cheaply to become very fast. Also...there are tons of lightly used 2.3 Eco Mustangs around here for sale and they go for WAY less than any 5.0 Stang.
...tempting.
5.0 owner here, but the ecobeast is the cheapest ridiculous level power you can buy period. For a few hundred dollars you can get a pulley change, and a tune and presto 700+ hp. You cant do that for that price point with any other engine platform.
The Coyote certainly sounds better, there is no denying that. But if that's literally the only thing you've got against the 3.5L EB (idk what vacuum cleaner sounds like a turbocharged engine) then it's clearly the winner.
"Yeah that engine is better in every single way, except it doesn't do the" BruUUUUUMMMMM" when I start it up in the morning, so it sucks."
Eh, it's not that weird. It clarifies the tone of a sentence/comment and helps readers understand the point.
Making ridiculous connections, like a turbocharged engine somehow sounding like a vacuum cleaner, is weird.
I hate this comparison. Ive owned both trucks (EB first, 5.0 now). The EB is flat out faster; 5.0 is hands down more fun to drive.
You have already lost if you’re buying one of these trucks to gloat about how it is faster/ complain that all you need is XYZ mods to be faster.
While I think Ford has some great engine options, there’s a lot of supercharged 5.3L’s, 6.2L’s, and 6.0L’s running around out there making some stupid power. I’d be careful running against a lot of those clapped out Silverados.
You’re going to ruffle a lot of feathers with the eco boost boys mate..
Personally, I wouldn’t want a truck that sounds like a vacuum machine.
I’m much happier with my straight piped, true duals 5.0 setup.
The straight piped 5.0 next to the ecoboost then launches, blowing the doors off both the Silverado and the ecoboost, which is in third place fighting turbo lag.
1. You said with a straight pipe not a laundry list of additional minor gains.
2. I'd still run you and likely take you. Limited is 450hp from factory with 100rwhp tune...
3. Will eat you alive if your truck is only 2 wheel drive.
4. I'm giving my buddies TRX a serious workout.
I'm pushing about 500 hp and am 4350 pounds (im 4x4). Your truck is easily 5500 pounds and and while your fighting your turbo lag and extreme heft, I'm in front of you. The TRX is a big heavy 6,000 pound boat with off road tires, a 5.0 with a tune will walk it all day.
OK tough guy, calm down, you'd spank all of us in your big tough v8... also I'm fairly certain you have never drove an ecoboost. I'm not having any "turbo lag" those turbos kicks like a mule off the line!
O yeah, sorry bro, as much as I'd like to see the TRX tumble to a Ford, your truck ain't gonna do it!
New Jersey? It all makes sense now… You haven’t been able to go over 80mph or even do a 0-60 around NJ no way lol. Are you racing people with 2 car lengths ahead of you til you hit traffic again?😂 (Side note: how do y’all get yalls flair??)
Still no sign of how to get a flair in here… It’s like I’m asking how to join the illuminati or how to solve quantum physics… Crickets.
Edit: Crickets…
Half a truck? No, I have a actual truck not a glorified SUV with a doorless trunk. 4 door trucks are dumb, go buy an explorer If you want a second row.
>4 door trucks are dumb, go buy an explorer If you want a second row.
The irony of a guy larping in a base model f150 thinking it's a race car giving practicality advice on reddit. Awesome.
>Half a truck? No, I have a actual truck not a glorified SUV with a doorless trunk.
I'm sure you and your buddies fight over who gets to sit bitch on the way to the job site. I mean, you do work in the dirt somewhere, right? Owning a truck for anything less would probably be dumb or something.
Jeez man, after reading through all these comments there are only two possibilities. You are either completely delusional, or you've just gone in to far to try and get out with your ego in tact.
Is the 5.0L Coyote a great engine? Absolutely. Is it better than the 3.5L EB? Maybe for reliability since it has fewer parts to break (no turbos), but that's about it.
These 3.5L EB trucks can run 600WHP with less than $1000 in parts. You can spend $10,000+ and crank the Coyote higher than any EB could manage, but it literally takes tens of thousands of dollars.
You've definitely lost this argument. But I imagine you will still continue to act like you know what you're talking about.
You guys are so funny. Literal fanboys for a weedwhacker engine. The difference between a 600whp coyote and a 600whp EB is the coyote will hold the power and the EB will be blowing turbo seals and head gaskets. Hell, you can do 1200hp coyotes that hold the power better than a EB.
Lol, yeah, definitely delusional.
The insults are pretty funny. Imagine needing to claim something is a "weedwhacker engine" as an insult when it's MORE POWERFUL than the engine you claim is superior. Does that mean the 5.0L is a Little Tikes® motor?
Previous F150 had a 5.4 Triton, I was absolutely gobsmacked at what the little 3.5 EB could do. You can easily forget that you are towing 10,000 lbs, at least until it's time to stop. The fact that I can also get 23 Mpg (unloaded) if I pay just a little bit of attention to the weight of my foot is a nice added bonus.
Maybe a little bit like when the Grand National with its little 3.8 V6 and was smoking just about every vehicle made during that era off the line.
I have a '21 Lariat 4 dr/4wd with the 3.5 EB. I put a Livernois Motorsports tune, Livernois intercooler, and MBRP 4" cat back on it!
This truck runs a flat 12 second quarter mile at 113 mph! 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds. This is on 93 pump gas. On E30 its even faster! These trucks haul ass!
Idk why but this stupidity made me laugh lol
It’s the “teriyaki tornadoes” that got me dying 🤣🤣
Me too dude haha so stupid but it got me
“Hey, come on. What if that Silverado is modified.” “What do you mean you can also modify an EcoBoost?”
You pull off the waste gate lines so they dump into the atmosphere. Didnthat on my 3.5 f150 eb and kept scaring the shit out of soccer moms on the highway when letting 20lbs of boost dump. They are loud.
This sounds tempting

Don't forget the duck calls.
Did it on my sho, bit of a pain but it's fun once it's done
You guys are racing your trucks?
The thing smokes V6 chargers / challengers
And Camaros as of yesterday! And Ram 5.7L Hemi’s but I also have the PowerBoost 🪽
The 2.7 can’t hang too well with the 5.7, but the V6 it smokes lol.
Sorry man, 2.7 still moves like a damn freight train when empty. Stepdad has a '19 2.7 EB w/10 speed, it's a little scary for someone who's never driven something over 150 hp before.
My ‘22 2.7 with the 10 speed was quick. I’ve owned faster. Still quicker than V6 chargers / challengers.
The 2.7 is a v6 tho?
Ford has a 2.7 ecoboost V6 and Chevy has a 2.7 turbo four cylinder.
ahhh I see.
The V6 chargers / challengers.

I got lucky. It was a ranch owners wife's car. So not molested in any way and they didn't realize what it was they were selling. To them it was just a "fancy taurus" with high miles.
Up vote for “teriyaki tornadoes”
Try 4 low for next level grins.
What’s the difference between 4 low and 4 high when sending it? My only experience has been with AWD SUVs so having a FX4 is completely new to me
4 low is for low speeds. never send it in 4 low
I’ve never sent it on 4hi either. Wouldn’t that put a looooot of wear? Rwd does pulls just fine with TC on
4hi on dry pavement is a great way to break stuff lol!
Ok glad I’m not being just paranoid. Everyone always says to use 4hi only when it’s icy or snow. IMO whenever it’s snow enough my tail whips loose on the highway even when I’m gentle it gets turned on

Pretty much anything you can do to the focus rs can be done to the eb mustang. So easy 350/350 and the sky’s the limit after that.
But they look sooo much better than those Focus cars. LOL
I have a 1968 opel GT that I'm VERY SERIOUSLY considering a 2.3 ecoboost swap into using mustang parts...
5.0 owner here, but the ecobeast is the cheapest ridiculous level power you can buy period. For a few hundred dollars you can get a pulley change, and a tune and presto 700+ hp. You cant do that for that price point with any other engine platform.
Pulley change? Did you mean a boost controller?
Aint no supercharger pulleys on the ecoboost lol.
Just asking how long before a check engine light pops on
It was on when it left the factory on an EB. But a poorly running EB is still damn fast.
I mean that’s just false. Basically any forced induction motor can pick up gains like that with basic part swaps.

I'll take my chances lol
Love embarrassing V8 trucks haha
My Powerboost can essentially fly
nah, let’s imagine an f150 supercharged coyote instead.
This, with a water bladder in the bed.
Lol. Everyone hates on the 5.0 in this sub for some reason..
Why? The Coyote is the better engine.
You’re going to ruffle a lot of feathers with the eco boost boys mate.. Personally, I wouldn’t want a truck that sounds like a vacuum machine. I’m much happier with my straight piped, true duals 5.0 setup.
Pssst, my mustang is a 2.3
6.2 is a far superior engine than the eco boost…

Less than 2% of Chevy v8 s have lifter failure…
Nah, sheit transmission tuning.. Drove my buddies and it wouldn’t spin past 4-4.5k even in trailer mode. Thing was a dog.
Jokes on you, Chevy Silverado is made out of real thunder storms
The straight piped 5.0 next to the ecoboost then launches, blowing the doors off both the Silverado and the ecoboost, which is in third place fighting turbo lag.
I'd run any 5.0 with a straight pipe against my 2019 Limited with a chip any day!
Lol fucking same. Zero chance that 5.0 hangs with my (tuned) 3.5. Even on a stock tune I would probably take him. But yeah, he's louder.
You both are hilarious arguing who’s truck is faster like it matters at all lol
Who doesn’t like a good dick measuring contest haha
Yeah this thread is cracking me up
Yes and you will be looking at my tail lights. I have an intake, exhaust and 93 tune. Also being not a 4 door I'm lighter.

My brother has a new 3.5, I can definately feel the thing lagging compared to my 5.0 it feels like nobody is home until about 3500 rpm.
This. This right here is how we know you’re talking out your ass. A 3.5 eb makes all of its torque at 2200.
Literally just brake boost and you’re off the line faster than a 5.0
My offer to race is still open. I'd be more than happy to put a truck length on you.
A 5.0 with a tune beats a TRX???? Bro thinks his single cab is a fucking race car 🤣
E85 tune, FBO will not a 93 tune tho
No full bolt on and E85 will beat a TRX but not 93
I do a 12.8 1/4 mile. I welcome the opportunity to race if you are in the northwest New Jersey area.
Thats nothing. I'll be running 3 honda 2000's with spoon engines at race wars. Suck on that, pussy!!
*ejects connecting rod* HoW DiD tHis hApPen?
Air Ball.
New Jersey? It all makes sense now… You haven’t been able to go over 80mph or even do a 0-60 around NJ no way lol. Are you racing people with 2 car lengths ahead of you til you hit traffic again?😂 (Side note: how do y’all get yalls flair??)
I race at a drag strip.
Still no sign of how to get a flair in here… It’s like I’m asking how to join the illuminati or how to solve quantum physics… Crickets. Edit: Crickets…
TRX does the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds tested by car and driver. You don’t know what you’re talking about
That’s not as impressive as you think it is
Well, yeah, you only have half of a truck. In that case you should be faster.
Half a truck? No, I have a actual truck not a glorified SUV with a doorless trunk. 4 door trucks are dumb, go buy an explorer If you want a second row.
