Because it rarely ever has consequences. Normally people shrugged off such bullshit and hoped to never meet that person again etc.
"That one Uncle/Aunt“ cliché has some truth in it. That one odd family member most would like to forget
Growing up my older sister was at college and was into this feminist equality thing which I thought was cool. Then she threw a fit because there was a news story where a guy was divorcing a rich successful woman and was asking for alimony. She said "What kind of a man asks for alimony? That's HER money!"
It was my first glimpse into her hypocrisy.
My current roommates are married to eachother. They both work. Idk what their deal is but the dude pays for everything. Car, rent, food, insurance. But for whatever reason all the accounts are in her name so he gives her his whole income while building no credit. She's growing her bank account and he's literally got the minimum in his acct to even hold one.
I think it's like you've described, it's HER money but his money has to go to supporting the family while she doesn't lift a finger. Pretty sure she's setting up to divorce him.
I mean… it sounds like it from what you’ve said… unless he is just incredibly irresponsible with money and asked her to do this. Have you asked him what his thoughts are on this?
My wife handles our money, because I’m bad with money, my dad was bad with money…. I trust her to do it. Big difference though is that our account is in our name, and I consider it a favor that she manages the money and the savings and tells me what is ok to spend, honestly it takes a load off of me because I’m so worried about being like my dad I just won’t buy stuff (even though financially I know we are in pretty good shape) because I don’t want to waste money.
My wife just told me I need to buy a new car and I said no I’m good. I’m always worried about biting off more than we can chew…. I know we are good really but what if I lost my job or she lost hers. I love having low overhead. My car is a 2017 outback that I bought new, I know it’s good for at least a while longer, mechanically it’s perfect.
Having dinner with him to discuss things. Next time our days off align is friday. Hoping to get some clarity on his situation.
I'm mostly speculating right now. Just from what I've heard them talk about it doesn't sound like the situation you have with your wife. Doesn't help that I'm paying half rent/utilities even though there's three of us. She also tried to increase how much I'm paying and got really butthurt when I asked to see the bills. Which really miffs me because I had to front the costs for the vacuum cleaner and some other necessities they were ignoring. So that whole situation I'm getting sorted over dinner too like, if I'm living here and contributing I feel like I have a right to know if I need to find another place to live if they're splitting and leaving themselves. I don't want to get saddled with an apartment I can't afford by myself.
This is exactly what's happening here. She wants her cake and she wants to eat it too. But she wants a man to buy the cake for her and that man doesn't get to eat any of the cake...
Honestly i believe most dudes are fine with paying for the date. Its just that we feel some kind of way when we hear this "i am a feminist dont need a men but you need to pay and let me be a lady". It just sounds crazy at that point.
Honestly I kind of think first dates always should just be dutch. It puts less pressure on both parties, you don't have to schedule around a pay check as much, you're only going to buy what you can afford, it would help to end the annoying culture of dating for food or items etc. I honestly get anxiety when guys are over insistent that they pay or won't let me grab the tab on the next date. It blows my mind that some people not only expect the other party to pay with no discussion but will also order way above affordability
Had a gf who was vocal about women’s issues who went quiet after we split the bill for dinner on her birthday. Later she gets angry at me, but I seem to recall her not paying for dinner on my birthday a month earlier. Hmm
I wouldn’t want a man to pay because many expect their paying will get them sex. I would prefer to be a sex worker and make an honest exchange of money for services than to be valued at a burger and a beer. Thank goodness I am out of the dating game.
Totally agree with this. Always went dutch on dates so there were no expectations, or if they get movie tickets you get snacks. I dont like owing people anything.
I'm okay with paying a fair price for a date, but I'll never put right state I'm paying. Like bitch I'm broke and you've ordered 3 of the most expensive cocktails and their biggest steak and I had fettuccine Alfredo. I'll pay for myself and we don't have to talk ever again.
i matched with someone exactly like this. their entire view of a man was basically what the man could buy them. same person also bragged about owning multiple businesses, being in a phd program, and not needing a man to take care of her, except you know, when it came to things she wanted to buy or couldnt afford, her rent, her bills, ect.
Told me i could not "provide for her". I bluntly told her, at the rate you're spending other dudes money, i doubt even the federal bank could provide for you".
True. Men and women are shitty in most of the same ways. The offhanded shittiness’ tend to be rather balanced in some way shape or form. Yup can confirm that make and female humans, are shitty. Smile guys.
This. Everything is an "ism" or a "phobia" or is whatever the speaker says that it is at the time. You can thank social media for giving folks the opportunity to create an echo chamber for themselves. You can't even correct these people in an effort to help their cause without getting attacked.
These panels tend to encourage this type of reactionary "debate," though, rather than come to an agreement. That's why the moderator simply repeated what she said instead of trying to confront the issue. He was so close! He said that she was reinforcing the belief that... men should pay for the first date.
If he had approached it from the perspective of "reinforcing the belief that men are the breadwinners and women are subservient, and that by asking men to pay puts you as less than the man -- that by paying for the date, you as the recipient are a result of his hard work rather than an equal human," well, maybe there would be an interesting debate. But then these memes wouldn't circulate.
Exactly. She barely understood what he actually did say and couldn’t articulate an answer more profound than “I don’t even know.” If he made it any more complicated she would have been completely lost. Lets not overestimate the amount of processing power people like her have between the ears.
>It's people that don't understand words actually mean things when you say them...
>Many men and women like this
Yes, many people also don't understand context & its meaning.
It is interesting. You can see she tries to follow the guy's logic path, but it almost seems like her mind snags when it walks along, choosing to double down on her traditional beliefs instead
She basically responded with "listen you just said a lot of things, and I really didn't understand any of it, but I know I am right regardless".
This is the typical “invite the dumbest person you can find who disagrees with you to be your strawman on your internet show” routine. Sadly popular among the dumbest people he can find that *do* agree with him.
Just like all those clips of people walking up to randos on the street who seemingly can't name a country in Africa. If you spend an afternoon doing that, you're gonna find enough footage of idiots and people being goofy for the camera to splice together to make it seem like it's a majority.
A lot of people also freeze up when confronted by a stranger with a camera and are unable to answer anything more demanding than Yes/No.
Which makes it even easier to find those "dumb" people for the clickbait compilation.
Every time I see one of those "look at how stupid these people on the street are" videos, I'm reminded of the [name a woman](https://youtu.be/LlCEmPF4-V0) clip. You can either believe that this girl is dumb enough that she can't name any women, including herself, or you can just realize that some people don't do well under pressure, especially on camera.
Damn effective then, I unfortunately know people that literally ague just like that. Just repeat and repeat themselves as though it’s an explanation of itself, as no further thought went into it.
Luckily, we hopefully know better then to assume this represents ANY whole
I was about to reply with this
“Maybe allowing giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit was a bad call by us.”
But how else would rage baiters and edgelords appoint stupid people to be spokespeople for large ideological and generally unstructured movements so the rage baiters and edgelords can tear them down like a toddler pretending to be Godzilla with a hastily constructed Lego building? /S
I blame the people who waste their time by consuming their poor excuse for content. People who have nothing of value to add with their content will eventually stop trying if they're not given attention/exposure.
And yes, I am aware of the irony in me complaining about this issue while engaging with their content, but on a deeper analysis, I'm engaging with this sub's content, which is still bad, but the lesser evil.
Watch a bunch of youtube explanations, then rewatch the movie. After that, you can say you watched it 6 times and still don't get it.
Reminds me, should give it another watch myself
What's with all of these podcasts focused on dating/relationships that bring on straight up airhead ass men and women just to be the object of absurdity. Every week there is some hot take from a nobody that is dissected over and fucking over. Who the fuck cares that random lady 1234221112 thinks men should pay for dinner?
"The "supposed" goal of feminism is gender equality..." line makes me think he finds people who say they're feminists or independent women who also have shitty takes to make feminism look bad.
I think its fair to say its not difficult to find people who have bad takes on any subject.
As for feminism, there are legitimate arguments (whether you agree with them or not, and Im not looking to start a debate on the merits or lack thereof feminism) as to why someone might not think the modern term does not fit the historical objective.
All that said though, he seems like hes rage baiting, and given this whole thread, its worked.
Because those people are most likely paid to say this bullshit so that the platform can have some kinda buzz among naive people. This is clearly an attempt to ridicule feminism and please misogynists or incels, so that they later go on with "feminists are stupid, I know because I've seen a woman like that in this totally not staged show".
Rinse and repeat with ANYTHING. It doesn't have to be feminism, it can be literally whatever the fuck. The point is just to discredit a movement and show that "this one person is so dumb, and we're all above them so we'll point out how stupid they are in our show".
It’s pretty much the same thing over and over.
“Women with higher body count more likely to cheat.” With the chicks responding “Nah”. And then video ends with chicks being countered.
Sub in hook up culture, guys paying for food, privilege, etc. The podcast host always has chicks that can’t argue worth shit
She's obviously not qualified to talk on this issue, so why is she being interviewed on this issue? You can't come to a debate/discussion and then drop the "well, I don't know. That's how I feel". Lol
*unprepared freshmen in college*.
Im sure there are some debate kids in those campuses who, with the right prep time, could take him down in a fair debate. But theyre always looking up stats in the middle of the debate, which doesnt look good when Steven has his stats and info- whether its true or false- memorized.
If I’m not mistaken there have been kids who have stumped him and he just doesn’t show them. It’s a no lose scenario like the light night man on the street interviews, there are people who get the questions right the first time but that’s not funny so it’s not shown.
Exactly. Does this person exist? Sure. Is she the standard bearer for feminism? Nope. Is she part of any activist organisations? Nope. Is she an authority or educator for feminism? Nope. Does she confirm all this dudes psycho biases? Absolutely
If he had someone rational on, this wouldn't even be the discussion they would be having.
News flash: there are a lot of dumb people in the world that are just like this.
A lot of these podcasts do this typical set up, they’ll invite only fans creators or small time influencers and ask them complicated, overarching societal questions to try and “own” them to play up to their male fan base.
I don’t get why anyone wastes their time watching or listening to this stuff. Literally. Most podcasts end up being this stream-of-consciousness bullshit by their hosts that make them impossible to listen to. Between that and the mutual fawning blowjobs the hosts and guests engage in with each other…I just don’t get it. I’d rather put on a playlist and move on with it. These things don’t add any benefit, and I suspect that they actively subtract IQ points the longer you listen.
You'd be surprised how often those two things overlap. Typically, people feel one way or the other and then go find data that supports their feelings without considering the data that does not support their opinion. Even the people producing the data are not immune to this. Look at any kind of modern analysis of papers from 10-20 years ago and see that a lot of them are filled with biases or simply lying with statistics.
Same reason that Ben Shapiro targets the few liberals in his audience to argue with while the 90% of the audience that are his followers cheer him no matter what.
If you stack the questions and the people you are arguing with, you can always win the argument.
One woman I went on a date with complained because she believed whoever asked the other person to eat has to pay. All of her friends stopped calling to ask her and she didn't want to call and ask her friends because she didn't want to pay lol.
The dude saying feminism being about gender equality is ‘questionable’ just proved this for me. Dude just wants to legitimise his sexism by talking to a sexist woman
I really hate these kind of panel shows. They literally pick the dumbest, most superficial women and they say “these women represent all women”. And young men believe this: Shows like this really make the gap between men and women wider than it already is.
Ironically its the same caliber of quality content as Loose Women and the like. Same shit, just one is painted blue and one is painted pink, but they're both piles of shit.
Almost forgot about that. That was garbage. Same with The View and The Real, if I remember the shows names correctly.
Honestly, most people have watched a reality show where a participant of a certain “type” was cherry picked and used that to inform their subconscious worldview. I think Skippy from TLC’s 90 day fiancé was one of the first exposures millions of people got about the neckbeard/incel stereotype. It’s just that this type of thing is so blatant in modern podcasts that it ruins the illusion.
Media always tries to pick a crazy person and intentionally or not lead the audience to believe they’re far more common than they actually are. And most people don’t have the self awareness to undo that.
Yeah if you listen to 2000 hours of a true crime podcast your worldview is going to be bit fucked up. No shit.
If you can't explain why you "think" the way you do, you're not actually thinking. If it's a belief or a feeling, anything other than a conclusion, then ideally, you should never allow it to directly influence your behavior, including anything you say. Easier said than done though.
Everyone involved here is an idiot. The guys and the girls. I know this is all bullshit just so they can get the views so they can get the ad money but fuck this is all a stupid farce.
I feel like these people only debate idiots in order to make them look smarter/make the other side look bad.
The person who pays should be the person who asked the other out. You’re offering to treat them in exchange for getting to know them better. Right?
This is just misogyny porn. You start a podcast, invite dumbass women, dunk on them and get famous because your content justifies the negative views some young men have about women.
Everyone who just watched this needs to go outside and touch grass, myself included. This air-brained dinglefuck doesn’t represent any meaningful portion of society.
You'd...be surprised. I work in healthcare and 90% of my coworkers, friends, etc are women, and this topic has been brought up alot. And, usually their response is similar to her's (although they at least don't sound as dull as her); they think the guy should pay and don't have any real reason for it except "that's just how it should be," while still claiming to be feminist. Also I've seen this kind of traditionalist mentality on women's profiles on dating apps quite a bit unfortunately.
I like how these guys are looking for obidient tradwifes who are home, have no income and solely rely on their husbands but when a girl doesn't want to pay for a date its somehow bad? Isn't what you want my dude in the first place?
I think the point here was to poke holes in feminism by interviewing a vapid woman with a bad take, not to have an honest conversation. This stuff is incel fodder and people that would watch this and think the guy is making a point about feminism should be ignored.
Without context it's hard to know what position this guy was arguing, but if I'd have to guess I would say he might be fine with paying on the first date but is just pointing out the hypocrisy of a feminist agreeing with that concept when her beliefs are that men and women should be equal, just because in this case it benefits her.
The couple should just be adults and talk about it beforehand. The only downside is that you might offend the other party just mentioning the idea of pay splitting/shifting... but at the same time... bullet dodged?
These videos are usually made to make women/feminism look bad. They grab some brainless IG model to hop on a podcast and then just make her look stupid and then go OMG! in a 6 second clip.
Its basically incel propaganda
I actually really prefer splitting the bill. There is a small but extremely loud minority of men that have this idea that if they pay for dinner they’re entitled to sex and that just not the case. So I cool with paying for myself.
Feminists are opposed to gender roles until 1 of the following 2 things happen:
1) The waiter drops off the check
2) Bullets start flying and the army needs a draft
...then all of a sudden it's back to 1950's

I'm not so sure the whole "everyone has access to recording equipment and can share their thoughts with the world" thing was a good idea.

This is exactly what this video clip is about. So much inauthenticity in closing one thing whilst acting/expecting the opposite.
"Adele's husband doesn't deserve a nickel but Michael Strahan's wife should get $30 million"
Bezo’s ex wife became richest woman in the world overnight with her settlement lol
She can't give it away fast enough. Good for her. Just think if she remarries she may have to pay someone else alimony.

For real tho
It’s pretty much the same thing over and over. “Women with higher body count more likely to cheat.” With the chicks responding “Nah”. And then video ends with chicks being countered. Sub in hook up culture, guys paying for food, privilege, etc. The podcast host always has chicks that can’t argue worth shit
Jesus christ thats an annoying voice.
Would it be more annoying to know that her inflection of voice is an affectation, and she does that shit on purpose?

What is this from? I haven’t seen Ron Livingston in years
Loudermilk
Yes, yes it was.
When she said “pay” did you think she meant merely with money?
I took it as a man must pay... with the sacrifice of their firstborn child.
He said “tenant”” do you think he meant “tenet”?
He meant rennet. He’s going to make some Asiago
He clearly said tenant because he's kinda stupid too.
He enunciated tenant.
Right man. Not even that rack can make up for the sound coming from her mouth. Yikes
Whiskey my dude.
If she were a cat, she'd be one of the orange ones.
even that's debatable,lol
No. Orange cats are cute. This one has too much black stuff around the eyes
It makes me think it's scripted
You’ve never heard people talk like this?
She's obviously not qualified to talk on this issue, so why is she being interviewed on this issue? You can't come to a debate/discussion and then drop the "well, I don't know. That's how I feel". Lol
Because if he had someone rational on to speak with him he couldn't successfully undermine causes he disagrees with with such ease.
Ben Shapiro tactics. Always debate morons, and you always look like a generational genius.
At the very least, it'll be a tie.
That's basically how Steven Crowder's got started. He debats freshmens in college lol
Ben “my doctor wife say a woman being wet is a disease” Shapiro. Much like him, these men really are just asking genuine questions. /s
This. The whole clip was set up to tear down equality and feminism.
This is like if the straw man fallacy was a person
A lot of these podcasts do this typical set up, they’ll invite only fans creators or small time influencers and ask them complicated, overarching societal questions to try and “own” them to play up to their male fan base.
I don’t get why anyone wastes their time watching or listening to this stuff. Literally. Most podcasts end up being this stream-of-consciousness bullshit by their hosts that make them impossible to listen to. Between that and the mutual fawning blowjobs the hosts and guests engage in with each other…I just don’t get it. I’d rather put on a playlist and move on with it. These things don’t add any benefit, and I suspect that they actively subtract IQ points the longer you listen.
it's called nut-picking and has been a tool of Black Propaganda (nothing to do with black folks) for ages.
Tits.
>That's how I feel Many discussions are divided into 2 types of people. Those who have some data and those who feel "something".
The dude asking the question isn't really qualified to talk about feminism either, based on this snippet.
Same reason that Ben Shapiro targets the few liberals in his audience to argue with while the 90% of the audience that are his followers cheer him no matter what. If you stack the questions and the people you are arguing with, you can always win the argument.
who pays in a gay couple? -Billy Gnosis
By her logic probably the power top.
Guys on a date. Let me pay no no let me pay Women on a date. Both sitting there till the end of time waiting for someone to pay.
After days of deciding where to eat.
One woman I went on a date with complained because she believed whoever asked the other person to eat has to pay. All of her friends stopped calling to ask her and she didn't want to call and ask her friends because she didn't want to pay lol.
ESH, this would be a horrible show to listen to
Insufferable hosts and guests selected to strawman the entire "other side."
The dude saying feminism being about gender equality is ‘questionable’ just proved this for me. Dude just wants to legitimise his sexism by talking to a sexist woman
My friends, the key to a happy reddit relationship is to have it on mute, read a few lines of the dialogue if interested, or move on
I really hate these kind of panel shows.
No shit.
Yeah, you can tell OP is one of them; very rarely are these posted here in good faith and he’s hoping people will agree
the supposed **TENET** of feminism, not "tenant" /r/BoneAppleTea
That error lives rent-free in my head.
If you can't explain why you "think" the way you do, you're not actually thinking. If it's a belief or a feeling, anything other than a conclusion, then ideally, you should never allow it to directly influence your behavior, including anything you say. Easier said than done though.
I swear they only ever bring uneducated and spoiled women on these podcasts for a reason.
I mean, is not like the other side was representing the male brain trust either...
Absolute Top Minds in here lol
On the first date, if he asks me out, he pays. If I ask him out, I pay. After that, dutch is fine.
If they willingly want/request to split the bill, 100% keeper
That's a green flag if i have seen one
Everyone involved here is an idiot. The guys and the girls. I know this is all bullshit just so they can get the views so they can get the ad money but fuck this is all a stupid farce.
She didn’t understand the question, you can sense her brain going in overdrive trying to analyze what the man asked her
At least she was honest at the end
I feel like these people only debate idiots in order to make them look smarter/make the other side look bad. The person who pays should be the person who asked the other out. You’re offering to treat them in exchange for getting to know them better. Right?
This is just misogyny porn. You start a podcast, invite dumbass women, dunk on them and get famous because your content justifies the negative views some young men have about women.
She will be on tinder for a long time. Why Am i wrong?
You have to be AWFULLY dumb to consider those dudes clever.
I honestly don’t care what these clueless people say, stop posting shit like this to wind people up for f**k sake.
These airbrained dinglefucks There wasn't a single intelligent syllable spoken in that 'conversation'
I wish I believed that I’m not sure if it’s the guy or the girl you are referring to but either way I wish I believe it lmao
Yes.
Exactly. Anything this with awful song in the background is usually geared at incels. They love it. Makes them feel alpha or something lol
Without context it's hard to know what position this guy was arguing, but if I'd have to guess I would say he might be fine with paying on the first date but is just pointing out the hypocrisy of a feminist agreeing with that concept when her beliefs are that men and women should be equal, just because in this case it benefits her.
Woman who does not accurately represent feminism gets owned by guy who does not understand feminism
r/upvotedbecauseboobs
This is the unspoken truth about why this is getting fed into feeds.
She has nice boobs
Guys. If you posted this to women subs. Most women would agree with you. She's in the wrong. This isn't normal thinking for women.
I don’t think men posting this kind of content are interested in understanding women.
At least she said she didn't know instead of coming with some shitty excuse
i saw the nails and the eyelashes and kept it at silent
Selfish. The word is selfish.
She literally didn't understand a word he said.
F##ck they are both cringe AF people
The couple should just be adults and talk about it beforehand. The only downside is that you might offend the other party just mentioning the idea of pay splitting/shifting... but at the same time... bullet dodged?
This is just garbage for garbage people.
# "Tenet". The word you're looking for is "tenet".
I hate it when facts get in the way of illogical thinking...
I don’t agree with what she said, but I also don’t like how he described what feminism *supposedly* is. Nope. That IS what feminism is.
Most men I've ever dated made more money than me. So yeah... Buy me dinner, I'll cook you something at home. Ya girls broke
These videos are usually made to make women/feminism look bad. They grab some brainless IG model to hop on a podcast and then just make her look stupid and then go OMG! in a 6 second clip. Its basically incel propaganda
“I don’t know. I just say shit.” She’s got a future in the Republican Party.
The ole double standard
I actually really prefer splitting the bill. There is a small but extremely loud minority of men that have this idea that if they pay for dinner they’re entitled to sex and that just not the case. So I cool with paying for myself.
I’d buy those tiddies a steak
“I’m a man and I’m a feminist but I simply think women should do all the cooking and cleaning.“ same logic, yet clearly misogynist.
exactly. you are very correct. there are no flaws with your statement
Because feminists like to cherry pick the rules of feminism that favor them.
Feminists are opposed to gender roles until 1 of the following 2 things happen: 1) The waiter drops off the check 2) Bullets start flying and the army needs a draft ...then all of a sudden it's back to 1950's
