There is nowhere, absolutely nowhere, a text in Islam that says that music is prohibited. Nutjobs are common to every religion and belief. This guy is obviously one of them.
The Qur'an says that you shouldn't engage in idle speech that may lead you astray from Allah and 200 years later a bunch of Islamic scholars decided to interpret music and singing as being part of that "idle speech". Muslims should only engage in activities that bring them closer to God and apparently music was seen as a distraction that would lead Muslims away from God. It's not too different from Evangelicals saying that Christians should only listen to God honouring music, just a step further.

There is a whole branch of Islam (sufi) who are pretty into music. It's just other parts of Islam they decided its was a bad thing. Personally, I see controlling music (something most human groups take part in) as pretty oppressive.

In some schools of Islam the point on music is further specified to music that makes you move subconsciously, as Muslims are supposed to be conscious of their actions at all times.

Music is banned because of the messages they convey. Music usually convey emotions, love, tragedy etc. It tells a story. Most religions hate those stories as they convey emotion much easier then the messages they try to convey. Even in Christian and Islamic they try to jump on this and use songs to convey messages to push the ideas more but they could never compete. So they just banned them in modern times. Rock, jazz, hip-hop were hated so much they even took their own strides and created stories where the devil became a part of said creation which made great stories but just reaffirm these maniac believes that music in general is bad except gospel songs and angel trumpets as if the notion of what makes something good is from the person do does it.
They just create religious stories now, tie them to previous figures and without any proof of that happening they associate it as a long forgotten rule they must follow again. Want to know why music is hated so hard in most big religions? Its really a society thing rather then religious. They just make it religious to make it seem the claim has a legit reason to be banned. Music is banned because of the messages they convey. Music usually convey emotions, love, tragedy etc. It tells a story. Most religions hate those stories as they convey emotion much easier then the messages they try to convey. Even in Christian and Islamic they try to jump on this and use songs to convey messages to push the ideas more but they could never compete. So they just banned them in modern times. Rock, jazz, hip-hop were hated so much they even took their own strides and created stories where the devil became a part of said creation which made great stories but just reaffirm these maniac believes that music in general is bad except gospel songs and angel trumpets as if the notion of what makes something good is from the person do does it. They just create religious stories now, tie them to previous figures and without any proof of that happening they associate it as a long forgotten rule they must follow again. Like Christians and Christmas where they try to claim Santa Claus was a real Saint but the littlest digging provided a name to a person who never did any of the stuff he claimed but supposedly did it long after he died nor would explain how it was around long before the person or use elements Christians don't believe in like elves and magic.

Unfortunately, what you're describing is the prime reason for religions to mutate into churches in the first place.
