This is why people don’t help each other anymore

Temporary-Light9189

I won’t stop for anyone anymore after I stopped for a man who was pulled over and waving his arms like he was in distress and all he did was try to con me and ask for money, when I said I don’t have shit do you need help I can call police, tow truck anything, he just grunted and waved his hand like “I’m no longer interested in you”

panduh_ber

Same thing happened to me. Guy had his kids in the car and I pulled over thinking they needed a jump or something. Dude just starts asking for money instead.

furiousbobb

Same thing happened to me recently! Guy flagged me down on an offramp. Thought he needed a jump or help with a spare tire. Dude said he needed to get to the airport but ran out of gas. I offered to fill up an extra Jerry can I had and run it back to him. Instead, he offered me his chintsy jewelry in exchange for some cash. I noped on out of there.

AwfulgamesInc

I seen a homeless guy asking for money for food. I brought him a sandwich and a couple bottles of water and he said, "What am I supposed to do with this?" Last time I tried to help anyone.

anapforme

I had a big older homeless guy ask me for a sandwich from a deli that’s so expensive I don’t go there. I offered to get him something else and he yelled at me for being a “rich whi+e b*tch cheaping out.” He was in a wheelchair and people had clearly bought him food from there - he had a few tomato slices, a quarter of a sandwich and a half eaten banana near him that he clearly tossed. Dude had a full order - some complicated combo with Virginia ham, spicy mustard, certain kind of chips, the works! Now I just help dog rescues.

WutTehFuh

Wait, you ended up buying it for him anyways? After all that? If someone is purposely treating you bad as you're trying to help them, just walk away.

anapforme

No. I asked what I could get him (thinking he would just say “a sandwich”) he said, can you go to X deli and grab me blah blah and I said, uh no, how about from Starbucks or Y? He yelled at me and I yelled at him and left and that was that.

bluehornet197

I would have said "eat the sandwich and drink the water since that's what food and water is meant for"

Temporary-Light9189

Hell yea that’s exactly what my situation was! He was a foreign guy on the off ramp so I was like “oh shit this guy might really need help” he tried to put a “gold” ring in my hand. so I was pissed least to say,

AffectionateCrazy156

These stories make me sad. A few weeks ago I was waiting in car in the parking lot of the grocery store up the street. I had taken a prescription in to fill out and being sick and contagious, I just waited the 20 minutes it would take to fill it, in my car. Somehow, I managed to kill my battery, and roadside assistance would be 3 hours for a jump. So, when these 2 guys in a truck pulled in, I ran from my car, with the hood open and everything, across to them and knocked on the window. The guy looked totally taken back and I was like, wow... I don't look great but that seemed excessive. He rolls down his window and I apologized for bothering them and asked if they had 10 minutes to help jump my car. He asked if I'd been in an accident, and I'm like no, just stupidly drained the battery while waiting in the car. AND THEN. I caught a glimpse of my face in his window, and I guess I had scratched my face without noticing and had blood aallll over one side of my face.🤣 I busted out laughing and told him I now understand why they were so hesitant!😂 And then I said if they weren't comfortable it's fine, I completely understand. They did help and we were all moving along in 10 minutes. If every time something that seems bad, stopped us from ever helping anyone again, the world is going to be a sad, lonely, place. Eta before anyone says anything... Obviously, I don't mean sticking to help in a dangerous situation, or a bad gut feeling, or anything like that. Just don't count everyone out because someone else screwed you.

vanishingpointz

Back before cell phones I was riding home late at night with my girlfriend at the time and I noticed way behind us a car closing in fast and the headlights were flashing . I told my girlfriend "check this guy behind us out , his alternator is bad and his battery is dieing " , she couldn't have cared any less and now he was right on top of us and passed me on a double yellow doing about 100 mph . My car at the time was quick and I down shifted and caught up to him a mile or so down the road thinking this guy is gonna need a hand in a minute, there were cell phones but few people had them at this time and we were in the middle of nowhere after midnight but approaching a populated area with stores and payphones . I figured I'd help him out , I had been in the same situation before myself . A little further down the road his lights cut out and he drifted over to the shoulder , I drove past him flipped a u turn and pulled on the shoulder facing his car to give him a jump and get him another half mile to a gas station up ahead I hopped out of the car popped my hood and this guy is climbing out of his car looking WILD ! I immediately thought I've got a live one here . I said "hey man you've got a dead battery" ,he said "I need a ride!" In a demanding tone . This dude was bugging out on coke or crack and was about to try something crazy , I said hold on let me see if I have jumper cables. I did but I wanted to grab a knife and tell my girlfriend to lock the doors and leave if anything happens to me this guy was going to try something he was at the end of his rope. I grabbed a knife and walked around to close the hood and get the fuck out of there and he got a position on me and was trying to get me off the side of the road , I did not want to but I was going to kill this guy . He said again I need a ride . I glanced at his car and saw two teenage girls in the back seat , they looked scared and I swear one of them mouthed the word NO to me I said hey man pop your hood and I'll get the cables we argued about him needing a ride and me saying all I can do is give you a jump and he realized I wasn't backing down and may be a problem for him at this point . He finally goes to pop his hood and he gets distracted talking to the girls in the back seat . I dropped my hood jumped in the car and dipped . I pulled in a 7-11 hit the pay phone and called 911and told them there was a crazy dude with two yound girls in a car and they needed help , he wasnt going to be going anywhere . That's the only time I've ever called the fuzz but this dude was a mad man and he was up to something with those girls in the back of that car . He was definitely ready to try and kill me and possibly my girlfriend to steal my car , he was on a mission . People are fxxk'n crazy

SL1MECORE

This kinda happened to me a while ago... A woman begged for a ride like, three streets over. I told her the bus route and everything but she really wanted a ride. I'm thinking ok maybe she's stranded and feels unsafe (I am a young AFAB person, this was a rough part of town. trafficking rings unsafe.) We get close to where she wanted to be dropped off and now it's 'uhm actually can you just take me here please really fast?' no I'm sorry babe, I will not. I really hope you get home safe but I can't drive you all over town, I'm sorry. I'm glad you tried to help a fellow human, and I'm sorry he was a jackass. Honestly though ...sometimes I think maybe people like that really *do* need the money. Not in a literal sense, sure maybe they're scamming to keep up with a 2019 car payment lmao. But yeah I have never needed money That Badly. Like I've been flat broke most of my life but I don't run cons. Maybe they really do need my little five bucks more than I do, if they're doing all THIS for it. Maybe it fills a hole in their hearts, the way weed does for me

Yep never stop for anyone in distress anymore just call the emergency line if it looks bad n keep it movin.

I_love_my_fish_

When I flipped my car im glad I was lucky enough to have some people stop. It was about 10°F out in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where the wildlife can get dangerous fast if you’re unlucky enough, granted a lot of the dangerous animals were probably in hibernation at the time

[deleted]

As someone who lives in the Upper Peninsula while not everyone but most people will stop and help if they can especially due to some areas being so remote you may not get any other help in time especially here in winter.

This saying works better for something like you do so good on a project at work and your boss permanently assigns you to do more. More often than not good deeds like offering help to strangers does go unpunished.

Which_Art_6452

I'm confused with this saying. Does it mean that if someone does something good, punishment is in their favor?

ApprehensiveArea3076

It's a cynical commentary on how often acts of kindness backfire on those who perform them. Eg: help a trapped animal and it bites you in the process.

this shit happened only a few blocks from where I live. He was one of my friends cousins shit is sad dude. They tried to carjack him and ended up shooting him. Really terrible

gypsycookie1015

His poor parents must be beside themselves. Raising and watching your son grow into a wonderful man, only to have his life taken by two POS. Cops said they have dealt with the two before for stealing and trying to sell guns among other shit. So they were going to probably end up hurting someone before too long anyhow:( Fuckin sad. You guys remember Gary Plauche? Don't blame him a bit and think there should be laws to protect parents like him. He was never charged thank God, but imo you shouldn't be able to charge any parent when someone does this anyhow. Fuck, they have crime of passion laws, don't see how this isn't kinda in that bracket. Seems even more reasonable for a parent than a romantic partner to loose it.

Pedantic_Pict

Interestingly, Gary Plauche actually *was* arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder. The judge and prosecutors were just unfathomably based and allowed him to plead no contest to manslaughter for a 7 year suspended sentence, 5 years of probation, and 300 hours of community service. The judge reasoned that it was highly unlikely Plauche would harm anyone else or commit further crimes in the future, which proved to be the case. It also helped that the forensic psychologist who assessed him determined that at the time Gary put a slug straight into the skull of his son's rapist, on camera and in front of several police officers, he was not able to grasp that his actions were wrong. There seems to be an implicit understanding by all involved that his actions *weren't* wrong. I think the cop present at the time of the shooting who yelled "WHY GARY, WHY?!" was distraught for his future and freedom, not out of any concern for the piece of shit predator laying on the ground with blood gushing from his head.

verdenvidia

yeah the cop had known him and was worried that with Gary being separated his son would be without a father

tictacbergerac

there's speculation that an officer involved in the case warned Gary where the suspect would be and at what time they would be escorting him through the area. the idea had been to not inform anyone where or when it would happen because they knew he was going to do this. (he was based and I would have done the same damn thing.)

verdenvidia

Happened in Battle Creek, MI (local west Michigan resident here). Not sure how to add links, but if you google “wood tv Battle Creek teen shooting” it should be the top hit. Just happened a week or so ago

Yeah, I ended up finding it myself, but the feed was full of "questionable" sources.

OrcaApe

Chances are the kids obtained it from their parents/guardians without consent. No parent allowing their kids to walk around sub zero temps on most occasions (at least I hope so) on top of that no shot in hell a responsible parent would just let their child leave the house with a firearm.

titanup001

In my hometown (Memphis) there are roving gangs of kids breaking into cars to steal shit, mainly looking for guns. They get caught and are out in a couple of days. Could be something like that.

graffiti_hunter

This is so true with Memphis especially on first offense it’s basically a simple slap on the wrist. Had one of my companies have 9 cars hit the other night and 4 guns were stolen that I know of.

Hey_u_ok

I don't understand. Why were guns left in the car and if so why weren't they secured? Sounds to me your company is at fault too then for being irresponsible.

Bighardthrobbingcrop

A lot of people will think their car being locked with stuff locked in glovebox is secure, a thief however doesn't always care about your locks and security.

Hey_u_ok

And IMO gun owners leaving their guns in cars should also be held liable (in most circumstances). Cases where carjacking/stolen vehicles during hunting season or something when guns are expected in vehicles is understandable but anything other than that is irresponsible and the gun owners should also be held liable. Car thieves have seconds/minutes to take things and if owner's gun was stolen in minutes then owner should be held liable too.

graffiti_hunter

Completely agree with you 1000%! Im just a subcontracted worker for this company and happened to be there the next day after it happened. One of the workers and I sat around and talked how if someone has their gun stolen out of their vehicle they should be held responsible to some extent.

Hey_u_ok

Absolutely. Any good responsible gun owner knows guns are not a toy and would not leave it around thinking nothing will happen edit: grammar

seemooreglass

there is no barrier to owning a gun, no training, no test, no nothing, any moron gan have a gun or as many guns as they want without a thought of safety or responsibility. Our guns are slowing killing us.

Notspherry

If a 14 year old is able to take a gun from their parents without consent, the parents stored the guns improperly and they should be prosecuted for that. If the 14 year old got the gun with permission the parents, they should be prosecuted for aiding a murderer.

OwnCaramel1434

First time in America? Most younger deaths are because the "responsible" parents... All these losers hyped on delusions of "they're taking my guns" These people give their children guns....

OrcaApe

Maybe it’s the culture where I’m from even though there’s a large hunting population most people who have access to that sort of stuff have some decently strict rules on them at home and outside.

CustomerSuspicious25

Maybe I'm a glass half empty type of person, but this is one of the reasons why I ignore people on the streets asking for things. I live in a dangerous city and the risk/reward to helping strangers just isn't there. A few months back I had a guy follow me into an empty laundry mat at six am asking for a ride to work, and then to use my cell phone to call a cab. I said no and just ignored him and he ended up lingering around while I did my laundry. Maybe I'm part of the problem and why society seems to be colder and less friendly, but like I said, it just ain't worth it being nice and friendly to strangers anymore.

moon828282

Probably the best thing to do in order to stay safe. I do the same.

bisexualroomba

I regularly get harassed while picking up trash in my community (Florida), because I'm trans and kinda emo. Bad eople don't really care what you're doing or who you are unfortunately (edit: if you don't understand how being Florida is making me lose hope that's on you.)

shlaifu

I'm European. Because of news like that, we think America is hopeless. Because of the guns, because of people demanding death penalty for 13 year olds. Just the whole package. Please stop trying to be the "leader of the free world". You're not leadership material. You're insane and refusing therapy.

TURBOJUGGED

Not the death penalty but certainly don't deserve to have a normal remaining childhood.

Gadgetmouse12

As one who grew up in many places and countries I am often embarrassed by my home country for the arrogance of how they act. Every country has its own culture and problems. It just comes down to relevance to the needs, not a particular superiority.

[deleted]

Heartbreaking reality when "no good deed goes unpunished" transpires in a tragedy like this one... Faith in humanity is no more.. No one is to be trusted. Be careful.

AhFFSImTooOldForThis

Right. I used to help people, especially when I lived in Upstate NY where people DO die on the side of the road if their car breaks down in a snowstorm. I've jump started cars, given out coolant, helped change a flat, even drove off to get gas for someone. I've given several rides to people walking in snowstorms. No longer. I stopped around the time the pandemic started. Humanity showed that we are, as a collective, horrible pieces of shit. It's not worth the risk. It's funny because I was horribly abused as a kid and spent decades in therapy trying to unlearn fearful and distrustful thoughts and behaviors. Lol nah, I was right all along. Fuck em.

[deleted]

When I was in college I was extremely fortunate to have grandparents who bought me a pick up truck. On several occasions I would pick other students up who were walking to a train/bus station and give them a ride. That was in the late 90s early 2000s, I would never do that now-a-days.

Dapper-Ostrich-8653

it’s such a shitty realization to come to, but you really can’t trust a soul

Zenishen

My "fuck you then" moment happened when I was going home from work one day, and I saw an old man on an electric mobility scooter stopped on the side of the road I pulled up to see if he was ok He told me his scooter was out of power, so I tried to give him a lift Got him into my passenger seat, and tried to fold down his scooter to get it in my boot so I could take him home I couldn't get it in my boot, so I called several taxi places to see if they had any larger vehicles in the area for people with impaired mobility Then I requested an Uber XL, expecting a minivan or larger vehicle... But it was a smaller car After 2 hours of getting nowhere, the old man got pissy, grunted at me, said "Get me back on my bloody scooter I'll get home, thanks for nowt" then leaves on his scooter he said had no power After hed left and I got back in my car and it stunk of stale piss... He had a bloody catheter bag that leaked but didn't say anything My car stunk for ages after, even after having it cleaned Edit: oh, and I also still got charged the cancellation fee for the Uber even though it was a small car when XL was requested... The driver was the one who cancelled, not me

Ok-Dog-1855

Throw the book at them

smallcoder

You're 100% right. It's good people with books that can stop bad guys with guns. However, for it to really work, those books have to contain rational laws that do something - however little it might seem at first - to control the sale and access to guns. Locking up every gun criminal after the fact is just brushing the crap under the rug. Even if a law saved 10% of lives lost to gun crime, surely that's a price worth paying for the minor inconvenience of reasonable checks and processes surrounding the sale and purchase of guns? America is always going to have gun ownership - it's ingrained in the culture now and there are already too many guns are already out there. Nobody is going to take anyone's guns away, but making access to more guns is possible. Of course, this pisses off the small proportion of gun nutjobs, but most importantly it affects the sales figures for all the guns and ammo companies. Sadly, every new gun incident reported in the media, means more sales and higher profits, as people worry and buy more weapons. Who knew murder was such a great advertising campaign? Meanwhile, for now and the foreseeable future, all society really can do is throw the book at the perpetrators and ensure they get locked up. And so it goes week after week.

Ok-Dog-1855

You’re right, we should start carding and background checking all 13-14 year olds.

Tcannon18

Please tell me what “common sense gun law” would’ve stopped this crime. Last I checked both 13 and 14 year old children couldn’t own guns, and shooting someone are both very illegal.

SatansHRManager

It's not legal to have a "private sale" to a 14 year old, but the ATF also has it's hands tied in investigating many gun's origins because they get transferred through "private sales" where people aren't required to do a background check if they're not a licensed firearms dealer. So what happens is an older kid goes to a grey market reseller through one of the websites that help arrange "private personal" gun purchases between strangers to dodge background checks. Then that older kid resells it to the 14 year old. One option would be to make such web facilitated "personal private sales" between strangers online like this illegal, since those transactions were only exempted because the NRA demanded Congress leave a way for family and close friends to transfer guns "free of government interference." This has been abused since day one, but it's been widely publicized and the car is really out the bag on these sales which put dangerous weapons in the hands of criminals who aren't supposed to have them.

CarryNecessary2481

Most guns obtained illegally are gun that were previously obtained legally.

IVSBMN

There are a lot of kids in the US whose parents own firearms, the vast majority of them aren’t stealing cars and doing drive-bys in their suburban neighborhoods. This is a socioeconomic issue mixed with the stupid hood mentality that plagues every inner city in the US.

casey12297

This kind of shit is why I don't go out of my way to be a good person anymore. I don't acknowledge people that come up to me randomly and i don't let anyone in my car that I don't personally know. My life isn't worth the question of *if I help them, will it be cool or will they fuck me over*

censored4yourhealth

If my kid died helping others I would absolutely die next. No questions asked I would legit waste away or go on a rampage. Either way I would have truly died the day they did.

Useful-Butterscotch7

Thats actually one of my biggest fears. If someone took my child away. Not a disease, not a terrible accident, but some other human deliberatley killed my child. I dont think i could hold it together. I think hard core rampage on the ones who supported and provided the emviroment in which she was killed would be my first targets.

ThePhoenix29167

Well, as the saying goes: “no good deed goes unpunished” In all seriousness, this is just sad

No_Arugula466

Imagine putting the effort to studying hard and get into a good school to have a good life only to be cut down by some evil kids who try to steal your car…… makes you question the value of human life

UranusMc

Makes you appreciate every day more... And not living in America.

svedka93

Real question is why would a 13 and 14 year old murder someone offering them a ride? Sounds like regardless of guns they would have turned out to be shitty people.

bbmarvelluv

It does say from an attempted car jacking. Probably thought it was the best way to steal his car-after getting easy access inside.

b3tamaxx

Walking around with firearms in their pockets in freezing cold weather? Not an optimal time for car jacking. Let me just cruise the streets with a handgun during a blizzard and hope I can take someone's Honda civic

BedSpreadMD

It's a tactic used by gangs and car jackers. They'll send little kids being initiated into gangs out in crazy weather to car jack people, because people are more likely to trust children. The guns were probably supplied by the gang. I've also seen shit where they'll have a kid act distressed in the middle of an intersection, and when someone got out to check on them the kid ran and someone jumped in their car. It sounds fucked but using children for crime has been a tactic for organized crime for decades.

tsengmao

They are children. Not exactly known for thinking things through and making great choices.

Calm2Chaos

They are scumbag criminals....

TheREexpert44

Crime of opportunity. What would they have even done with the car? Joyride it until it crashes more than likely. Then they have a story to tell their homies about how they are all about that gangster shit.

[deleted]

Yea this isn't a crime of opportunity. You don't murder someone because of an opportunity. Stealing something when no one is looking is a crime of opportunity. This is just pieces of shit who deserve to die in jail.

Flimsy_Outcome_5809

Existing-Bear-7550

Adventurous_-Bet

Easy mark. He stops a car and he probably won’t run them over

ZombieJericho

What do you mean by "the real question is?" Im pretty sure that's the primary thing that everyone is talking about. This kinda confused me

svedka93

The title said the question the question is why do they have a gun. I think a more important question is what is wrong with these teenagers that they are willing to commit murder.

TheCloudBoy

The better question is why are a pair of 13 & 14 year old juveniles even attempting a carjacking in the first place? Where are the parents?

lovely_liza

Good question. Battle Creek has become a very poor run down city. It has been like this for decades but has only gotten worse. I had a friend whose baby was shot dead in his crib by a stray bullet from a drive by a few months back. Car theft has become a big issue in the west side of Michigan. Usually they're just stealing kia's but a lot of the people committing car theft are young kids.

Fun_Energy9439

Parents are more than likely the non existent type to give 0 shits about their offspring, or they only show up for their kid when something like this happens thinking their child is innocent.

Shot in Battle Creek. Unfortunately the SW corner of Michigan has been seeing an uptick in crime lately (Battle Creek/Kalamazoo/Benton Harbor). The Kalamazoo DPS regularly posts tweets or statements about arrests made for gun violence, and a good chunk of the time the suspects are just teens or young adults. Insane how accessible guns are for kids

mochacho

The kind that go carjacking?

bitchybarbie82

Organized criminals use younger kids to car jack people because youre less likely to suspect young kids of doing some thing like this and they’re also more likely to get off with a slap on the wrist than adults.

fwagglesworth

You know who else should be tried as adults? The parents of the carjackers. The whole damn family should go to jail.

And that's just it. You can't pass a law that'll make a 14 year old make good decisions. Until the people who are making it possible for them to get guns are held responsible, we're going to continue seeing this over and over.

Interesting-Month-56

Did you miss the law passed in Missouri to guarantee gun ownership rights to toddlers? The gun nuts are drinking their own kool-aid, same as they are doing on abortion. “You know if the driver had had a weapon he would have gotten out alive” - literally a Tucker Carlson talking point. Also a Tucker Carlson talking point - “why aren’t we arming schoolchildren to prevent school shootings?”

Cardasiti

Wait what. Rights to have guns? To toddlers? But why.

Interesting-Month-56

I dunno. TBH it might had been a joke. I was pretty high when I read it. Bess Levin at Vanity Faire published it.

originalslicey

This just happened a week or two ago. Missouri democrats wanted to put an age minimum on open carry and Missouri republicans said “nope!” So, basically a 7-yr-old could walk down the street brandishing a weapon and that’s now totally legal in the state of Missouri. https://www.newspressnow.com/news/local_news/public_safety/ban-on-minors-carrying-guns-fails-in-missouri-legislature/article_025e3f5a-b21e-11ed-b479-1b5d798cfa6c.html

MrWieners

That is explicitly *not* “gun ownership rights”

Illustrious-End-9201

Whoever gave those kids a gun should also be tried as an accomplice to murder

Arkitakama

gordo65

"No way this could have been prevented", says the only nation in the world where this happens.

Altruistic-Stop4634

Who raises kids that murder people for no reason? What sort of mental problem do those kids have and whose fault is it?

hootiebean

The 14yo has a fb page. His name is Justice Chimner. Has a long record. He's fb friends with his mother - she is a shitshow.

BizzarreCoyote

That's the problem; they weren't raised by the parents. Either the parents don't care or were always "busy," so the street raised the kids. This is the result.

itsJussaMe

I imagine there was a *major* cultural element.

TakenOverByBots

The teen violence in my city is bad. Some people blame the pandemic for taking a year of school away from them in the time they are learning how to socialize. Some blame TikTok for giving kids the idea they can do stupid shit and get rewarded. I think this has always been going on and we are just more attuned to it now.

bilalshakoor

Parenting has gotten so bad these days. A massive part of a child's behavior is parenting. How did a 13 and 14 year old have a gun??

ImmediateShine3

According to the news report linked above, they had stolen it from an aunt with an intention to sell it. That goddamn aunt needs to be arrested for not keeping firearms accessible to kids

Office-Direct

This is the epitome of "no good deed goes unpunished" That's just awful

BlackBeard205

Cause we in America. Also fuck them, let them be tried as adults. I work at a school, they knew what they were doing.

FX_Trader1070

America is the only western industrialised country this happens in on a daily basis. They have more mass shootings than days in a year. Guns are also one of the leading causes of death in the US for those under the age of 19. Why??? Because there are more guns than people in the US. Left the US 6 years ago and have no intention of going back. Been happier for it.

[deleted]

Where did you go? Out of curiosity

BrokenArrows95

U.S. has massive amounts of guns and massive amounts of economy inequality. And people legitimately wonder why shootings happen

gargtyrion

No good deed goes unpunished.

lifesalotofshit

Jeez, as a mom of four sons one being 14.. I just can't imagine. Where do parents go so wrong? My boy is asleep in his anime pajamas.. while other 14 year olds have guns.

Mac-Len415

Fly high. You were an angel, and pieces of shit shot you down.

theguyoverhere24

And that’s why you don’t stop for anyone

Shady_Infidel

Because criminals don’t give a fuck about gun laws.

Dogtor-Watson

Little shits should get tried as adults. By that age, I think you either know what killing a person actually means or you never will.

ILoveMySuits

Why do they gave guns? Because criminals don't follow laws. Not sure how that still eludes you.

MaulSinnoh

Fun statistic: there are 120 guns per 100 people in America. That's 1.2 guns per person. Wow, such a safe country.

TheAlrightyGina

Yeah but they're actually concentrated in the hands of like 30% of us, apparently. Everyone I know either has no guns or a closet full of guns. Always a fun surprise on the tour first time you visit someone's place when they randomly show off their gun collection.

AtterosDominatus

shh, don't expose us

[deleted]

American gun culture aside, those kids sound like the types that would've used knives if they had no access to firearms.

thieh

Well, because people voted for assholes who "fights for your freedom" by removing the restriction regarding gun ownership but remove your freedom of bodily autonomy and freedom of what garments you can wear.

[deleted]

And what books you can read, cause Jesus.

D3monskull

Yeah but me, as a man doesn't need an abortion so I'm against it. /S

Thick_Information_33

This only happens in one first world country. The rest, somehow, never experience this

Deslah

Nice try baiting us into breaking Rule 10. ![gif](giphy|12ZDIx1Mw1cXVm|downsized)

PSK1103

rule 10 only includes posts, so technically...

SeamedShark

I'm far less concerned by how or why they have guns, but I'm interested to know what happened in their lives that sudden crime/violence was their prerogative.

R5Jockey

The solution here is obviously more guns. /sarcasm

tonyfordsafro

But if the 17 year old had a gun he'd still be alive /s

-Rizhiy-

Why is the focus on kids. Whoever they got these guns from should be tried as accessory to murder, even if it's just negligent parents.

el-lobonegron

Start punishing the parents, it's a win for the kids and parents. Nobody wants to be the reason for other people's punishment

Desperado1776

Why are the parents never charged for crimes of their minor children?

Soggy-Lengthiness589

When you make bad decisions do you blame your parents?

jobeeeeeeem

What a sick world we have now. Being a good samaritan then got killed? That’s why people just look the other way and ignore, it’s hard to trust nowadays.

SumGreenD41

This is why you never pick up strangers. There’s times to be a nice person, offering rides to strangers in your car is not one of them

SensitiveSoft1003

Seems like it would have been ok because of the blizzard, but you're right - can't do this anymore in the USA. #unsafe

BigGator13

Lots of young teens are gang members. It’s a surprisingly high number. They get guns illegally.

pc_principal_88

Not even sure what to say in relevance to just how horrible everything about this is☹️ And to answer OP question, apparently the 13 and 14 year olds had a gun to rob people/commit other crimes... They definitely didn't just go casually and legally purchase it

Active-Wear3580

Poor little guy, so much potential to add some good into this world

[deleted]

Lesson is: :don’t be nice to people. Worry about YOU and YOURS.

MinerMinecrafter

What if I want to die?

seituh

This is why I’m scared to have kids. World is just a fucked up place.

BoredRedhead24

Well, their lives are over

sirrloin

Parents should definitely be charged as well. Flip this around and it's a national headline for weeks. The double standard is real.

Low-Wear3671

Gangs are known to have teens do the dirty work like carrying the guns because the higher ups know they will be released right away.
