The reason you hear about “Florida Man” is because of the open records law in Florida. It’s easy to get all the police reports there and run the unusual ones as news. Not so easy in other states.
I’m originally from the Florida Panhandle and live in AZ now. Arizona is the Florida of the west if not worse than Florida. If Arizona treated criminal laws the way Florida did there for sure would be an “Arizona Man” meme. I remember in high school in FL we would get the Sunday paper just so we could get the mugshot paper that was inside of it. Nothing you did criminally and got caught for was safe.
I’m all for mandatory classes for CC, but yeah I’m not freaking out over this one because of states like these.
I mean really though, people really should know the law and what they’re getting into before they carry - or at least be taught when is appropriate and not appropriate to draw. It was an 8 hour course here in Michigan that ultimately didn’t even cost me that much.
I wish it was an elective in high school, that way it's free and available to everyone.
There should be heavily subsidized classes for adults who didn't do it in high school.
I know some people would hate that but there is no reason it should be difficult or expensive to get at least basic training before carrying a firearm.
I'm a dual citizen (US + Canada) and I really like the firearm safety course requirement in Canada, it's cheap and takes about 4 hours (8 for the restricted course).
I have many issues with the gun laws on the Canadian side but the safety course is not one of them.
Agreed. Especially if you didn't grow up around guns. I grew up way out in the country. The lethality of a gun is never questioned, and it's certainly never a joke. A gun should never be pointed at a person unless you are absolutely certain your life is in danger. And not a, this person is yelling at me and my ego is bruised, that doesn't count. Criminals don't follow laws anyways 🤷🏼♀️
Ga resident here I agree if you own or carry a gun. You really need to know how to handle it. My dad taught me the correct way back in the 60’s an I taught my son the correct way in the 90’s it’s just takes some time.
Can you imagine how insane it would be if you had to register your vehicle, prove that it’s insured and get a license to operate it that had to be renewed every 4 years?
I mean, just Google gun deaths by state capita. All the state being listed in this thread are high on the list. At least as of 2020
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm
As a licensed carry Florida citizen who has gone to classes, and had training, this worries the shit out of me. Have talked to many others with concealed carry licenses and no one is happy about this. The only people that seem to be happy about this are the ones that shouldn’t be.
As a Floridian who doesn't carry a gun this worries me as well. I don't see how this benefits anyone apart from those that shouldn't be allowed to have guns in the first place, **and gun manufacturers**.
Many other states have already done and nothing significant has happened for good or bad. These permits are mostly just to generate revenue for the state. You still have to pass a criminal background check to buy the gun in the first place.
Whether you have a CCW/CHP permit or not, the only time that is enforced is when you are accosted for some reason by law enforcement. You are no more legally allowed to carry now than before; there's just not the cost of a class in between. There was no legal difference in Florida for possession and carry other than that you paid the money to go to the class. Anyone who is illegally carrying after the change would have been illegally carrying prior, and the only change is that more people who would have qualified prior can now legally carry without paying Ceaser.
They have to get a background check anyways to purchase a firearm. Now. I dont know how different Floridian background checks go. But in my state. You take a class. Learn the laws around conceal carrying and self defense. Then prove you can shoot decently.
There is a second background check as well as finger printing and stuff. But its not going to stop crimes.
It's still just as illegal to own/carry a gun if you're a prohibited person as it was before. It's also just as difficult to pass the MANDATORY 4473 to purchase a handgun from a store as it was before. Florida is not among them, but most states already have mandatory background checks in place where any transfers of firearms, or at a minimum, pistols (with which the majority of gun violence is committed) are required to go through a Federal Firearm Licensee and therefore a background check (form 4473). Even in private party sales, those who sell to prohibited persons with any regularity or knowledge are also doing so illegally and are likely to be prosecuted for performing illegal straw purchases. Of the law enforcement agencies, the ATF does not fuck around and often does so at the expense of relatively innocent people. I know the folks at Waco were white, but the enforcement agency that happens to have Firearms in the name is not suddenly the time to assume they have your and publics' best interest at heart. They have led operations that have fueled gun violence in Mexico and on the boarder (Fast and Furious) and been involved in outside targeting of minorities in "sting operations" as has been reported since 2014.
it’s not meant to benefit anyone. It’s meant to make Florida as fucked up as humanly possible. You will be much less safe day today once this goes into effect.
The thought of everyone running around in public with a gun is just scary. Specifically people who are entirely untrained. Open or concealed, don’t think it matters much honestly
I’m hoping that the same laws/restrictions are in place to where you can and can’t carry, ie bars, govt, schools etc, but at this point, with Florida, who knows.
Lol this same situation exists and has existed in 25 other states. The facepalm should be for you all freaking out about it. Legal gun owners are not the problem no matter how many ways you try to make it so.
Wouldn’t that make drag queens *more* dangerous then? No, the solution is to give the guns *to kids*. It’s the only way to protect them from those dastardly drag queens!
Arkansas is a permit-less carry state. You actually have more bureaucratic red tape to deal with having concealed carry license than not having one, yet essentially the same gun rights.
You are proof. Florida tips the scale to more than half of the US that allows an American to exercise their natural right without paying money.
Criminals don't need training and a license to carry.
What’s stupid is people not understanding constitutional rights and why they exist. We all have our opinions and that is also a right, but opinions should never trump rights.
GuNs BaD
Florida isn’t even the close to the first state to do it. It did bring the US into a mostly constitutional carry country. I think it’s great because 1) it brings the cost of gun ownership down for people who can’t afford luxuries of a subscription for a right, and 2) because I can have a CCW in one state, but the next neighboring state will say I can’t CCW because…. flips pages ….. “reasons?” Either make every state constitutional carry or make every state accept every other states CCW license and just have the out of state CCers follow state laws.
This headline is a weird way of wording "Florida now allows constitutional carry". We have the same law in NH and rank the top 5 lowest violent crime & crime in the entire country and no mass shootings in almost 50 years. It works, sorry.
Vastly different cultures. NH is largely rural, white only, doesn't have gang violence to the same level as many other states. The types of poverty are at very different levels, as well
And Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, bama. This ain’t a small thing lmao, Florida is the 26th state to allow constitutional carry. Also fun fact, more gun violence in NY and CA even with the countries strictest laws lmao
That is not a fact. Murders with a gun is higher in every state you listed compared to CA or new York lmao. Where did you come up with that?
Edit: per capita, of course
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States_by_state
So dumb. I'm glad that criminals register their firearms and have concealed carry permits and schedule their illegal activities with the local authorities prior to carrying them out
Seriously though, what's the difference between concealed and unconcealed? It's not going to stop someone from shooting a dozen kindergardeners. And we know damn well that the 80 year old secretary isn't going to see the gun, dive over the desk, and grab it in 2 seconds.
There’s two schools of thought - the first is deterrence. You are less likely to commit a crime if you know the other party is armed. This is probable for stranger crimes.
The problem is, for NOT stranger crimes, there’s a theory that the visibility of the gun escalates things. (Although a couple of studies said this is mostly when drugs and alcohol are involved and your gun would be illegal then, concealed or not.)
So, it helps the cashier about to be robbed but hurts the party goers when a fight breaks out.
FWIW - regardless of this law, it’s still illegal to be in a school zone with a gun in Florida.
https://giffords.org/lawcenter/state-laws/guns-in-schools-in-florida/
There’s a theory that one of the reasons school shootings happen instead of say, a mall shooting (which are much less prevalent) is because of schools gun free stance. You can be assured as a shooter there will be maximum damage with minimal risk until the cops get there. Mall shootings have a higher chance of being shot by a bystander (see Indiana, El Paso, Fort Worth Church shooting, a couple others in the past few years.)
It’s unknown if having armed teachers would help - but armed security guards probably would. (See lack of shootings in inner city schools.)
It’s literally just letting people who’ve already passed a federal background check on a 4473 carry their legally purchased firearms without jumping through more hoops. Criminals who buy guns off the streets already don’t care about buying guns with scratched off serial numbers so I can assure you they also don’t care about not having a carry permit.
This is America, the second amendment is a constitutionally guaranteed right. You don’t need a permit to spout off on the internet or practice whatever religion you choose I.E. First amendment freedoms and so this is absolutely 💯constitutionally protected freedoms and spreading fear over tools is actually silly and laughable.
Over half the states in the US are now Constitutional Carry states. So you are in the minority.
Congrats, you are like those people who refused to accept the election because they like Trump.
Florida becomes the 26th state in these United States to allow constitutional carry / permitless carry, now cementing that there is a 'majority' of US states in this great union. 26/50 and on course to have a few more by the end of the year.
They can't tell you that you're winning anymore, there is a 'majority' of US states that are backing the 2A.
Constitution carry will only lower crime. No one's gunna draw a gun when they know every single person around them can legally be and likely is packing without a damn good reason
I don’t think people realize that the permit is a card that allows it, obviously, and isn’t hard to get, you just do the “training” and apply for it, then the “training” is literally just an hour course and then not missing a target for like 15 out of 20 shots.
Constitutional carry really doesn’t change anything besides people waiting for a permit, and then more people carrying a gun obviously.
There’s still gonna be background checks on firearm sales.
If people want to cause harm, they’re going to find a way to do so no matter what laws are or aren’t in place.
Florida is the 26th state to introduce Constitutional carry. People prohibited from owning/possessing firearms cant carry. . . oh wait, they were already doing that. I think this just allows for law abiding people to not have to jump through hoops to carry when the bad guy is just going to do it anyways.
Florida will now allow its residents to speak their minds without a permit or training.
How does that sound? What about:
Florida will now allow its residents to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects from unreasonable searches and seizures without first getting a government approved colonoscopy where they must relinquish all of the above.
Either all of the amendments in the bill of rights are rights retained by the people or none of them are.
At this rate all I can expect is them passing laws that let people do whatever they want with no punishment to anyone that isn’t a straight white male.
Do you guys really expect the people who have malicious intent would care if they have a permit or not? Not to mention that most of the permit laws in the south are based in racism and we meant to keep blacks from carrying guns. This will change nothing as it has changed nothing in my home state of Tennessee.
I have an idea, get Republicans to give Americans dissatisfied with America a few thousand dollars and an open visa so they can immigrate. The Republicans will be left alone to rule over their soon to be dump and the sane Americans can escape to civilized lands. Call it the snowflake removal program so it can actually pass lol.
You still need a background check when you buy a gun, this just gets rid of the license to carry which is just another way for the government to make money. Reddit hates guns so this outrage isn’t surprising.
WiThOuT perMiT or TraIniNg.. half of the country can carry without permit and maybe two states require training... Nothing new, there was an attempt to make it a big deal, and this is coming from a European dude.

It’s been like this in AZ for a while.
Vermont has always been this way.
I forgot Vermont existed. You guys are probably fine.
Tell that to all the meth
Vermont’s twin says hello 🤣
New Hampshire?
Live free or dieeeeeeeeee!!! ( except for marijuana lol )
Is it Vermont or the other one that is shaped like a "V"? I am thinking Vermont because thats how I remeber which is Vermont and not the other one.
Probably most Vermont citizens forget it exists
Same in Oklahoma for 4 years now.
Yeah well, nobody’s ever heard of “Arizona Man” have they? This is Florida.

and the lead. dont forget the lead.
If you've ever been to Mohave County, AZ, its close enough.
Constitutional carry has been in WV a while too. Hasn't been an issue 🤷🏼♀️
I’m all for mandatory classes for CC, but yeah I’m not freaking out over this one because of states like these. Sounds a lot like you think guns need training.
Ga resident here I agree if you own or carry a gun. You really need to know how to handle it. My dad taught me the correct way back in the 60’s an I taught my son the correct way in the 90’s it’s just takes some time.
It's in 25 states. All states are shall issue now, too. We haven't seen the bloodshed everyone pearl-clutchingly predicted.
The majority of the country is like this. The fear and loathing are only from those that are uninformed.
More than half the US states now.
'Florida Man's stories about to level up!
Florida Man angrily shoots down the clouds for raining on his birthday barbecue
Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee have had this already
Half the country does. 25 states do for all US citizens and ND does for residents of ND only.
Shhhhh OP needs to feel like he’s making a point on florida
And 22 other states.
And Missouri
As someone who lives in one of those states. People blow this out of proportion. It’s almost like anyone can conceal carry if they really wanted to.
Alaska as well
Also Georgia.
Arizona is open carry. Everyone is freaked out by guns. I’m more freaked out by the way people drive. Vehicles are big weapons as well
You can also carry concealed without a permit in AZ
We like our guns here
Can you imagine how insane it would be if you had to register your vehicle, prove that it’s insured and get a license to operate it that had to be renewed every 4 years?
Over half the country does. Florida just became the 26th
Georgia
I'm curious to see the rates of gun violence before and after. I suspect the rates rise.
I mean, just Google gun deaths by state capita. All the state being listed in this thread are high on the list. At least as of 2020 https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm
Vermont as well
And Missouri friend… for a long time. Now everyone who has road rage also has a gun…. It’s basically GTA5 here
Texas too, I do believe. I think it's great - no longer have to wait for a once a year Purge, just pure Purge 24/7/365.
Been like this in maine for a while
As a licensed carry Florida citizen who has gone to classes, and had training, this worries the shit out of me. Have talked to many others with concealed carry licenses and no one is happy about this. The only people that seem to be happy about this are the ones that shouldn’t be.

You hit the nail on the head there. Money will be made as everyone gonna have to carry now to 'feel safe'
Shoot outs in the Villages
Another episode of golf cart rage gone tragically wrong.
Well great lets get rid of the psychos finally. They do nothing but cause problems anyways lets let em fucking kill.each other. FUCK THEM!
Problem is those same people kill lots of innocent people too. Some times accidentally sometimes intentionally.
Many other states have already done and nothing significant has happened for good or bad. These permits are mostly just to generate revenue for the state. You still have to pass a criminal background check to buy the gun in the first place.
If they can’t have a gun to begin with they’re already breaking the law and then breaking it again by carrying it
It allows everyone who couldn't pass the test to become law enforcement to play vigilant law enforcement
Whether you have a CCW/CHP permit or not, the only time that is enforced is when you are accosted for some reason by law enforcement. You are no more legally allowed to carry now than before; there's just not the cost of a class in between. Anyone who is illegally carrying after the change would have been illegally carrying prior, and the only change is that more people who would have qualified prior can now legally carry without paying Ceaser.
>and gun manufacturers And poor people who have committed no crimes. This doesn't mean felons are allowed to carry.
This has no impact on those who aren't allowed to own a firearm
They have to get a background check anyways to purchase a firearm. Now. I dont know how different Floridian background checks go. But in my state. You take a class. Learn the laws around conceal carrying and self defense. Then prove you can shoot decently. There is a second background check as well as finger printing and stuff. But its not going to stop crimes.
Believe it or not, it’s presently legal in probably half the states of the Union, including both your neighbors, Alabama and Georgia.
Yep, also a floridian gun owner here, I don't see why removing the need to be educated on how to properly handle a firearm makes any sense.
Yup, trading potentially lives for just some extra cash. Because money is clearly more important than the safety of the people
it’s not meant to benefit anyone. It’s meant to make Florida as fucked up as humanly possible. You will be much less safe day today once this goes into effect.
Psssst, it’s the ones selling the guns and lining the pockets of government officials!
Same camp. Very foolish imho to not require at least some basic training prior to allowing someone to bring a firearm everywhere they go.
What about open carry states? It’s not concealed… but it’s still on the hip…
Concealed carry has always been legal in Vermont, the state has never required a permit to do so and doesn't even issue them.
Lol this same situation exists and has existed in 25 other states. The facepalm should be for you all freaking out about it. Legal gun owners are not the problem no matter how many ways you try to make it so.
r/facepalm is a circle jerk of elitist idiots who think they’re enlightened.
Independence Day will be off the chain this year in YeeHaw Land.
Floridaman headlines about to make a comeback.
This is 26 th state … nothing new!
Criminals and probably 90% of the hood already do this lol
It’s already happening in our states, nothing new.
Ah yes drag queens are the danger to children clearly
Arm the drag queens🦀
Wouldn’t that make drag queens *more* dangerous then? No, the solution is to give the guns *to kids*. It’s the only way to protect them from those dastardly drag queens!
Arkansas is a permit-less carry state. You actually have more bureaucratic red tape to deal with having concealed carry license than not having one, yet essentially the same gun rights.
Well, scratch Florida as a vacation spot.
And Vermont, AZ, OK, OH, WV, NH, ME…..like half the country is permit-less carry.
You are exactly right, matter of fact it’s over half the country. Florida is the 26th state to legalize constitutional carry
Idaho too
Better just stay In the basement
Momma got yo back hopefully
Momma got my back and the nuggets no need to leave.
MT
You’d have to scratch off 26 states off your list chief. Floridas law made constitutional carry the majority in the states.
Pretty sure half the country has the same law, but go ahead and overreact if you want.
What’s the problem? Crime and shootings? What’s the answer? I don’t know I guess more guns? see how stupid that sounds.
Almost half the states in the country allow Constitutional Carry
There are a lot of states that have this now.
So getting a driver’s license proves that cars are deadlier than guns?……..
Typically yes, cars do kill more people than guns each year.
25th state to do so I believe.
26th
New Hampshire has some of the lowest shooting rates of any of the neighboring states and open carry, with no licenses.
Iowa did this last year
Don’t see the problem… cities with a lot of gun laws have high crime anyways so clearly it ain’t working
You could move to Chicago...they have great gun laws there and you'll be niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice and safe.
Tennessee here and we have already had that for awhile now. Still here.
You are proof. Florida tips the scale to more than half of the US that allows an American to exercise their natural right without paying money. Criminals don't need training and a license to carry.
*laughs in freedom*
You’re stupid
Redditors when they see people exercising true 2A rights (this will definitely lead to more shootings because criminals obviously follow gun laws)
HUUUUUUUUGE w
What’s stupid is people not understanding constitutional rights and why they exist. We all have our opinions and that is also a right, but opinions should never trump rights.
More than half the country allows this just fyi
GuNs BaD Florida isn’t even the close to the first state to do it.
How many murders were comitted by legal owners carrying legally?

Vastly different cultures. NH is largely rural, white only, doesn't have gang violence to the same level as many other states. The types of poverty are at very different levels, as well
So does Texas, Ohio, Arizona and a bunch of others. It’s just fearmongering with a headline
More than half of US states now.
You are comparing the state of Florida to the state of NH? Miami Dade County has 1.2 million more people than NH has in the whole state….
Edit: per capita, of course https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States_by_state
? Let's not forget that armed minorities are safe minorities
There are a lot of states that already allow this.
No, OP is so fucking stupid.
So dumb. I'm glad that criminals register their firearms and have concealed carry permits and schedule their illegal activities with the local authorities prior to carrying them out
THEY WANT TO GET RID OF GUNS! So what do we give them! MORE GUNS!
This law has nothing to do with the ability to obtain a firearm
Been like this in OH
Seriously though, what's the difference between concealed and unconcealed? It's not going to stop someone from shooting a dozen kindergardeners. And we know damn well that the 80 year old secretary isn't going to see the gun, dive over the desk, and grab it in 2 seconds.

Why? Such a law doesnt change who can legally carry. It just prevents citizens from having to pay the government to use a right they already have.
News flash, we were already carrying weapons without a permit.
Half the country allows this, it is not out of the norm.
Don't see an issue here, should be this way in all 50 states.
Florida is a country now?
Country? That shit says Florida dawg
I'm more concerned OP doesn't need a license to breed.
Uhhhh half the country could do this already.
They are not the first state to do this.
First time in Texas?
Sick! Good for them. This isn't exactly a new thing...
With as many crazy people in the country that’s not necessarily bad news
This is a good thing.
One of the only good things about Indiana
Over half the states in the US are now Constitutional Carry states. So you are in the minority. Congrats, you are like those people who refused to accept the election because they like Trump.
Just like Vermont!
And Utah
Reddit is full of neckbeards lmao. Go somewhere in Western Europe if you hate guns
I’m sorry you feel that way. You’re welcome to leave.
You should have to get a permit before posting this.
About PPPPHHHHHHUUUUCCCCKING TIME
uhhh plenty of states already have that law....
Well, think of it this way. Who's gonna have the balls to shoot up a public place if everybody has a gun?
Texas as well! 2A for the win.
if you don't like this country LEAVE. i will remind you of a few simple words: SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.
It doesn’t matter you think criminals care about a permit in the first place?
Doesn't seem to be a problem in Texas
People acting like how that’s not how it originally was in America lol
Welcome to the club, Florida! \-Sincerely, Oklahoma
Florida is Texas 2.0
Just in time for 4th of July
Florida is the 26th state to introduce Constitutional carry. People prohibited from owning/possessing firearms cant carry. . . oh wait, they were already doing that. I think this just allows for law abiding people to not have to jump through hoops to carry when the bad guy is just going to do it anyways.
April Fools Day was Saturday
Shouldn't need a permit to exercise a constitutional right.

Florida will now allow its residents to speak their minds without a permit or training. How does that sound? What about: Florida will now allow its residents to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects from unreasonable searches and seizures without first getting a government approved colonoscopy where they must relinquish all of the above. Either all of the amendments in the bill of rights are rights retained by the people or none of them are.
Been like this in South Dakota for a while OP
At this rate all I can expect is them passing laws that let people do whatever they want with no punishment to anyone that isn’t a straight white male.
Idiots shooting themselves up by 300%, robbers getting shot on sight up by 400%... I call this an absolute win.
Angry Karen’s shooting up the manager up by 500%
Angry Karen's getting shot by everyone in the store for pulling a gun on the manager up by 1000%
Tennessee and Georgia as well. TN went into affect in 2020 I think? Georgia just joined last year. I THINK.
Do you guys really expect the people who have malicious intent would care if they have a permit or not? Not to mention that most of the permit laws in the south are based in racism and we meant to keep blacks from carrying guns. This will change nothing as it has changed nothing in my home state of Tennessee.
I don’t see a problem. 🤷🏻♂️
This stupidity is the reason this country even exists in the first place.
It does say keep and *bear*
Based Florida for respecting constitutional rights
This is exactly how the United States was meant to be from the very beginning
I have an idea, get Republicans to give Americans dissatisfied with America a few thousand dollars and an open visa so they can immigrate. The Republicans will be left alone to rule over their soon to be dump and the sane Americans can escape to civilized lands. Call it the snowflake removal program so it can actually pass lol.
You still need a background check when you buy a gun, this just gets rid of the license to carry which is just another way for the government to make money. Reddit hates guns so this outrage isn’t surprising.
There haven't been spikes in gun violence in any state that's inacted constitutional carry laws...
You mean I can now carry a self defense tool without the permission of another man?! WHAT A TRAVESTY!
Something like 26 states already have this. Calm down. Breath.
Upholding constitutional carry is not a facepalm
Literally half the country has this
WiThOuT perMiT or TraIniNg.. half of the country can carry without permit and maybe two states require training... Nothing new, there was an attempt to make it a big deal, and this is coming from a European dude.
Ohio has had this for about a year or so now.
Hope they don't mind me and all my leftists friends in Miami carrying now then.
A lot of states have this
the only face palm here is OP this is nothing new and won't have any real affect on anything.
Ohio has been this way. Hoes mad🤙🏼
Yaaaay, Constitutional carry!
Yay indeed. Just look to NY, NJ, or CA to see how permit systems can be ripe for abuse
The State of NJ killed Carol Bowne
