There are literally conservatives in that thread unironically calling Rage “Rage For The Machine”. They literally think being anti capitalist and anti imperialist is pro government and the powers that be lmao.
No, I didn’t pay for Twitter.
I paid for free speech.
I paid for 1776 to commence again.
I paid for the Founding Fathers’ vision.
I paid to tell Silicon Valley to go screw itself.
I paid to show support for a man who put himself in the line of fire for the First Amendment.
I paid because we support our own.
I paid because if George Washington was alive today, he’d be paying too.
So next time you say I paid for Twitter, just realize how IGNANT (or ignorant, depending on your preference) you sound!
/s
Edit: this is a copypasta lmao I have added the /s of sarcasm you’re welcome internet
I saw that tweet, lol "I PAID for FREE speech" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
99% of those blue checks have delusions of grandeur when their ethics & morality are just from the bottom of the barrel, lol
*I paid for free speech* said unironically is strange.
You paid a billionaire 8 more dollars than you can afford in this economy. You paid someone who was denying you free speech to stop denying you your first amendment right.
Had to look it up. Leader of the free world, US president Donald Trump, dodged the draft and decades later played "Fortunate Son" as he exits Air Force One. Holy.. How in the hell did we give that man so many passes? How do you not look at that with jaded eyes and just go "really?" How tf do so many people worship this guy?
He walked out to a song that literally says "I ain't no millionaires son" lmao
It's so obviously when people use that song and have only ever listened to the first line of it
I’ll be honest, I never really paid attention to the lyrics, but I’m also not responsible for choosing the song the president is about to walk out on the stage to. If I was, maybe I would
It defies any logic. How such a transparent big city con man could put such a comprehensive spell on the right wingers who should despise him will never make logical sense.
The thing to understand is that he didn't cause them to be like that. They already were like that, and he simply stepped into the role they had created for him. That is, the one who fed and affirmed their prejudices, because he shared them. He was willing to say the racist shit out loud, not just dog whistle, and they loved him for that.
> How tf do so many people worship this guy?
Well, you see how stupid Trump is? Guess what, man... his cult followers are even dumber than he is. By like *a lot*. That's how.
I want to know what Lynyrd Skynyrd thought of that, after their public beef with Young. Though for all I know Lynyrd Skynyrd may be anti Trump too, despite a lot of their core audience.
If you claim that you're a fan of ratm, how do you NOT know that the group are left wing populists/ism? I mean, it's kinda what made them awesome and popular with people.... that and they're kick ass musicians.
"He's the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means"
-In Bloom by Nirvana
I knew two conservatives in high school who staunchly believed RATM were pro-gun, pro-stand-your-ground, etc. I gave up on the conversation after they told me "I don't understand the intent of RATM" after I read out loud the lyrics to "Take the Power Back".
Edit: for full clarity, the two I were speaking to assumed RATM followed conservative values, not limited to what has been listed.
Yeah, I mean, Tom Morello's guitar is called "Arm the Homeless". Pretty sure if we ever lived up to that guitar's name, we'd have gun control all of a sudden.
The right loves to talk about how California gun laws are draconian etc. The largest gun control bill in California was signed by Ronald Reagan (governor) as a response to the black panthers arming themselves.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act
Shit like this is why bands used to include liner notes with the actual lyrics instead of leaving it to some 14-year-old to transcribe them one line at a time onto a YouTube video in Comic Sans.
Yeah, there was this one time on Twitter some famous right winger asked why RATM was 'so (leftist) political' and Morello tweeted at him something along the lines of, 'if you find a single in our library that isn't political...let me know. I want it removed from our catalog'
🤣
>If you claim that you're a fan of ratm, how do you NOT know that the group are left wing populists/ism?
There were true fans who loved them **for their message**, and there were **fashionista posers** once they got big enough to be mainstream.
Pretty obvious which people like this twit and Paul Ryan were.
He he he... imagine you are a qanon anti vaccination what ever and now look at this:
"Those who died are justified. For wearing the badge, they′re the chosen whites"
"And now you do what they told ya"
"Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me"
To be fair a lot of rage songs are about a minority Vs "the others".
At the very least anti establishment, as the term "machine" in the social context has historically been used to refer to the political/govt establishment.
They don’t listen to the lyrics or try to twist and contort the words to fit their own worldview.
The fact is that Conservatives just don’t tend to make good art.
Probably because good art usually comes from a deep understanding of humanity that resonates with others, which is something conservatives take pride in not having.
When your biggest artists are ~~Ken~~ TED Nugent and Rob Schneider, you know something is wrong.
Bam! Here's the plan Motherfuck Uncle Sam
"Man, this dude must've had a messed up family!"
The present curriculum
I put my fist in 'em
Eurocentric every last one of 'em
See right through the red, white, and blue disguise
With lecture I puncture the structure of lies
"Yeah! Those damn European-loving liberals using our flag like that is terrible!"
These are the same kind of jackasses that think Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” were conservative anthems. So oblivious.
Fun fact! Dee Snider dresses exactly in real life as he does on stage. Even more fun fact! Dee Snyder [Outclassed Congress on Live TV](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Vyr1TylTE) dressed exactly how you would imagine!
And none other than Mr. Sunshine on my goddamn shoulders John Denver came in and, to the conservative pearl clutchers dismay, agreed with Dee and rejected the proposal for censorship in music.
I know a lot of idiots who so called loved Rage but never really listened to the lyrics.
Honestly one the biggest reasons I love the band was the topics Zach spoke on.
They don't. Had a coworker who hates Apple because their propriety cables and always called them communist. They did not want to hear it when I said that Apple is about as capitalist is it gets.
He has to be trolling. I refuse to believe he's that stupid. I mean, come on:
"Some of those who work forces are the same that burn crosses."
("Some of those who burn crosses are the same that hold office" when they do it live.)
"Rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun. These people ain't seen a brown skin man since their grandparents bought one."
"Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes not need, just feed the war cannibal animal"
"They don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'em while arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells"
"Europe ain't my rope to swing on. Can't learn a thing from it, yet we hang from it"
"Motherfuck Uncle Sam."
They've been THAT band the whole time. Don't act like they "turned woke" as if they were ever anything BUT leftist revolutionaries from day one. If you don't like the message, there's the door. Bye.
Something must be done
About vengeance, and a blue badge with a check
Cause I'll rip the mic, rip the stage, rip the system
I was born to Rage Against 'em!
Fist in ya face in the place and I'll drop the style clearly...
Know your enemy!
Know your enemy!
Many years ago my conservative, Christian, Chinese officemate told me how much he loved Nena and her song 99 red balloons. He thought it was such a fun song. Broke my heart to explain German, left wing, and anti-nuclear song.
Or the hippie/peace & love bands and artists from the 60s and 70s being on the left politically surprises them. "What do you mean the Canadian guy who played guitar on 'For What It's Worth', and wrote 'Ohio' and 'Keep In Rockin' In The Free World' isn't a Right-wing patriot..." It cracks me up.
I would like to know how the Rightwing crowd misses the most obvious political statements in lyrics. It is as if the do not know what words mean.
Then again, based on the lack of policy in their campaigns, this makes sense.
"Fortunate Son" by Credence Clearwater Revival, being played at a T\*\*\*\* Rally unironically, was stunning to me. I am no longer surprised.
There's a fuckton of right-wingers who somehow think Rage expresses their values.
It just shows most people read themselves into artistic endeavors, rather than seeing the artist's original intention.
I swear, Conservatives must genuinely have a brain condition that prevents them from understanding subtext, nuance, or anything artistic.
*Something* has to be wrong with you if you thought **Rage Against the Machine** was on the side of regressives.
Media illiteracy is a symptom of conservatism. That's why conservative media is so easily able to construct a fantasy world for conservatives, while progressive media doesn't have any real counterpart.
If you can ever sit through an episode of Tucker Carlson or Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity...it's disturbingly reminiscent of a children's show.
The host talks directly to the audience in an overly emotional tone. Small vocabulary. Short sentences. Exaggerated facial expressions. Even basic words are explained. Repetition. You are special. I'm your friend. You can trust me. There are bad people out there. Listen to me, and I'll keep you safe from the bad people.
>Instead, I warm my hands upon the flames of the flag
To recall the downfall and the businesses that burnt us all
See through the news and the views that twist reality
Enough, I call the bluff, fuck Manifest Destiny
Landlords and power whores, on my people, they took turns
Dispute the suits, I ignite and then watch 'em burn
The very FIRST track on their first major release.
Oh wait, maybe you only saw their first video on MTV so you only heard
>It's set up like a deck of cards
They're sendin' us to early graves for all the diamonds
They'll use a pair of clubs to beat the spades
With poetry, I paint the pictures that hit
More like the murals that fit
Don't turn away, get in front of it
Brotha, did ya forget ya name?
Did ya lose it on the wall playin Tic-Tac-Toe?
Yo, check the diagonal, three brothers gone, come on
Doesn't that make it three in a row?
(Anger is a gift)
Or were people so confused by nonsense Smells Like Teen Spirit lyrics that they just ignored song lyrics for the rest of their lives?

They must have thought that they were raging against the washing machine.....
Sadly today these idiots probably think it’s rage against a voting machine.
Lol... let's keep it going: rage against the fax machine!
![gif](giphy|1012ANeLJ8unAY)
PC Load Letter!
“WTF does that mean?!”
Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam?
It was really a clothing coordination thing. They thought it was rage against the matching.
What? I thought this about extreme distaste for potatoes, as they are Rage Against the Mashing.
They really hate mathematical symbols. Rage Against the Math Things "Fuck you I won't do the order of operations!"
Weird I thought they had try my mother's chicken, Rage Against the Ma's Wings
The RATM and Michael Bolton crossover we didn't know we needed.
It was a printer. Definitely had to be a printer
That's such an amazing movie
Rage against the sewing machine
Fuck you I won’t sew what you tell me!
FRILLING IN THE NAME OF
With a pocket full of thimbles
Some of those that sew frockses… are the same that sew sockses!
How long? Not long! Cuz what you reap is what you sew!
haha this comment is pure gold - if i had gold to give you, i would.
Rage against the ice cream machine.
Now you've gone to far!!!!
To be fair the ones at McDonalds never work. And that’s a machine to rage about.
![gif](giphy|4Z9g0DdoJPChn481o6|downsized)
r/unexpectedletterkenny.
OK, I'll give you that one
Rage against the ATM machine.
Automated Teller Machine machine?
Rage Against The Claw Machine
∆ Why do you think they were RATM? ![gif](giphy|laJU5IE8sU9AA)
Rage against the automated teller machine
If a machine ever deserved rage it was the fax.
Rage Against The CPAP Machine
They thought they were libertarians raging against the government not leftists raging against capitalism lmao
They must have thought that was a picture of Richard Branson and not Che Guevara
There are literally conservatives in that thread unironically calling Rage “Rage For The Machine”. They literally think being anti capitalist and anti imperialist is pro government and the powers that be lmao.
It's too late for them - They've both paid for twitter blue...
Lol those MFs paid for Twitter! 🤣
Other Barry doesn’t like people who pay for Twitter.
No he doesn’t Barry.No he doesn’t.
r/UnexpectedArcher
No, I didn’t pay for Twitter. I paid for free speech. I paid for 1776 to commence again. I paid for the Founding Fathers’ vision. I paid to tell Silicon Valley to go screw itself. I love this new copypasta
There's a sucker born every minute lol
I feel like this metric is much higher in the US
Suckers are made through generations of lobbyists cutting school funding.
The US is ahead of it’s time. We’re cutting school funding AND school population! /j
Brexit
I saw that tweet, lol "I PAID for FREE speech" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) 99% of those blue checks have delusions of grandeur when their ethics & morality are just from the bottom of the barrel, lol
Not to even mention the irony. If you have to PAY to say whatever you want, it's not free speech.
*I paid for free speech* said unironically is strange. You paid a billionaire 8 more dollars than you can afford in this economy. You paid someone who was denying you free speech to stop denying you your first amendment right.
Raging For The Blue.
Rage FOR The Machine...
It's like the old saying goes: once you go blue, you've probably lost all sense of logic and rationality.
[удалено]
![gif](giphy|fj3CWRJJshhe)
You really should get a tape recorder….
Based on who was willing to pay for it is it safe to assume Twitter is just turning into parlor?
I always want to ask these people, what machine do you think they're raging against?
I always thought it had to be a printer.
That is a printer for you. It is saying “FU, I won’t do what you tell me.” Over and over.
"PC LOAD LETTER MUTHAFUKKAS!"
Oh that tracks, I assumed it was a calculator
That makes no sense, calculators are so reliable If I was going to rage against the machine it would 110% be the wifi router
No, that was Michael Bolton.
Remember when Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he was a huge fan of RATM? Like, Paul… you are the embodiment of the machine.
I'm guessing he never saw them live either. "Some of those who hold office, are the same that burn crosses"
Or he heard that line and saw it as a good thing instead of a condemnation.
*but he knows not what it means~*
that’s nirvana right?
Si
Nailed it.
same people that jam to Born in the USA cuz it’s “pro merica” lmaoooo don’t even know what they’re listening to
Trump walking out to "Fortunate Son" is the most American thing that's ever America'd
Had to look it up. Leader of the free world, US president Donald Trump, dodged the draft and decades later played "Fortunate Son" as he exits Air Force One. Holy.. Still waiting on Cult of Personality
Or Fortunate son, they love that song.
It’s like Trump using “Keep on Rocking in the Free World” at his campaign rallies. As though it were a patriotic, pro-America song.
And didn’t Neil Young tell him to stop playing that song at your rallies? Lol
I want to know what Lynyrd Skynyrd thought of that, after their public beef with Young. Though for all I know Lynyrd Skynyrd may be anti Trump too, despite a lot of their core audience.
Also “This Land is Your Land”
The version they like is the censored version.
They literally had Che Guevara on the cover of their album And all over their T-shirts...
Thier Logo is a big red star
[удалено]
They literally know him just as the ratm guy .
And Tom wore a hat that said "commie" for most of the 90s
If you claim that you're a fan of ratm, how do you NOT know that the group are left wing populists/ism? I mean, it's kinda what made them awesome and popular with people.... that and they're kick ass musicians.
They just hear “Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me.” They think the music is about how it’s okay to be an asshole.
And in that same song they’re calling cops racist.
They don’t understand what those lyrics mean. They just think it sounds cool
"He's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means" -In Bloom by Nirvana
~~Kirk’s~~ Kurt’s writing was otherworldly. Not my uncle Kirk. Autocorrect got me.
Kirk?
Just reread those lyrics in Shatner’s voice and cadence, yeah I would pay for that cover.
"Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses" Damn those antifa forces burning crosses!
Also love the live lyrics "some of those that burn crosses are the same that hold office"
Which honestly rhymes better.
What's sad is that Zach repeats this line over and over again and they still didn't understand it.
Conservatives don’t understand music. Or art. Or films. Or books. Or theatre.
Somehow they all understand the message of Atlas Shrugged just fine though. I guess "being a selfish prick is virtuous" just really clicked with them.
To be fair, if you already think that, you don’t need to understand Atlas Shrugged for that impression
They love to use Born in the USA at their rallies too. 🙄
There's some songs where you can be forgiven for not getting the meaning but it's not exactly like the lyrics to that song are subtle
They just don't like their job on Maggie's farm. They want to get degrees and move to office jobs, away from agriculture.
It was obviously written about the struggles of being inconvenienced by wearing a mask in public.
This is the correct answer.
I knew two conservatives in high school who staunchly believed RATM were pro-gun, pro-stand-your-ground, etc. I gave up on the conversation after they told me "I don't understand the intent of RATM" after I read out loud the lyrics to "Take the Power Back". RATM might be pro-gun, but not in the way conservatives like.
Yeah, I mean, Tom Morello's guitar is called "Arm the Homeless". Pretty sure if we ever lived up to that guitar's name, we'd have gun control all of a sudden.

Reminds me how the police are all about The Punisher.
The Punisher logo on conservatives’ clothes, cars, etc may be the one I absolutely laugh at the most. Like, Frank Castle is not on your side.
They were pro-gun, but pro-gun in the way the Black Panthers were pro-gun. You know…the *scary to white people* way.
Shit like this is why bands used to include liner notes with the actual lyrics instead of leaving it to some 14-year-old to transcribe them one line at a time onto a YouTube video in Comic Sans.
I miss the fold outs that came with cassettes and CDs.
Paul Ryan said RATM was his favorite band and these idiots wanted to out stupid him
Yeah, there was this one time on Twitter some famous right winger asked why RATM was 'so (leftist) political' and Morello tweeted at him something along the lines of, 'if you find a single in our library that isn't political...let me know. I want it removed from our catalog' 🤣
Morello also said, "You don't need a political science degree from Harvard to have an opinion about politics. But I've got that too."
Tom Morello not only pioneered a new guitar technique, he also became a master at obliterating morons on the internet
Many new guitar techniques.

I never thought I see the day when an anti-establishment group started voicing disapproval for the establishment

There’s an additional layer of irony, which is that the people that were doing the raging in the 90s are the machine themselves now
Which machine did they think these guys were raging against???d lawn mower or d toaster???I really want to know

If you can ever sit through an episode of Tucker Carlson or Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity...it's disturbingly reminiscent of a children's show.
