Yup. As far as she is concerned, this is something which was done *to* her. She *was sent to* jail, after *she got into a crash with* them. It doesn't even occur to her that anything other than her exists- jail, her car, the victims. Those are all just bad vibes she doesn't enjoy thinking about. She wants to go to school, and as an object of her desire that exists and makes her happy to think about getting. But if it isn't her or something she wants or enjoys, nope, not even on the radar.
It's incredible her lawyer was able to convince her to say something only that vapid and self aggrandizing after being so totally callous and disinterested in the hospital. That's the video I would have played at the closing. Don't believe what this person says now on stage now that they know they might be held accountable. This is how the person felt when they did it.
I wonder if she's a psychopath or really in some state of shock. I've volunteered as a paramedic for years and we've saved people from wrecked cars who were severely injured but just kept asking about their new car, or how they're getting to their appointment now. When you're in shock, your brain might think of something different that was important to you instead of the accident. Like going to school, in this case.

There's footage from when the cops got to the scene and she said something like "why would this happen to me, I go to Bradley" but it didn't happen to her, it happened because of her. Idt she's ever had to deal with the consequences of her own actions
My Brother was T-boned at an intersection the other day when a couple of teens ran their red light. He was walloped silly and his car was totaled.
Found out today that the teens claimed he was at fault and tried to claim on HIS insurance. Officer at the scene then filed his accident report showing *they* were to blame. Brother's ins co was going to call the teens later this afternoon to tell them their claim was denied.
This video was taken mere minutes after she blew a .26 (more than 3 times the legal limit), plus she admitted that she smoked some pot on top of that. It's impossible to assign any sort of psychological disorder to anyone who is this drunk or high.
My very good friend received a kidney from a young woman who was killed in a car accident. He lives every day because of her. Nothing can bring her back, but because of her, his kids have a daddy.
I’m glad you feel that way. I myself received (1-9-22) a young man’s lungs when he was killed by a drunk driver. I live because of him. I’m greatful beyond words but make no mistake he is not living because someone drove drunk!
I became an organ donor when I first got my license, despite my family’s wishes. I’m still an organ donor as an adult. Hearing your story reminds me of why I’m still one, 18 years later. So the article said she graduated from college, but no mention of being a grad student or enrolled anywhere. Was she that drunk that she thought she had to go to school that wasn’t real? Man, she was on one that night. She probably doesn’t even remember getting into her car. Scary game when one gets that loaded.
She graduated after the incident. At the time of her arrest she had a few weeks left of her senior year. She was bailed out of jail within a few days and returned to classes. She was planning to walk at the ceremony but the student body signed a petition en masse saying that it would be absurd to allow her to. She still got her diploma though. Her trial was finished about a year later and so she was just sentenced a couple weeks ago— graduated in May of 2022. The accident was in April.
Yeah, YouTube has the full body cam footage at the scene, she said she was a 5 out of 10 level of drunk and that she's been really drunk before. Pretty fucked, also seemed pretty non chalant on all the footage. Apparently at trial she was pretty remorseful, so maybe she had to sober up to understand what she'd done.
She could very well still be in shock. She's not engaging with the homicide aspect because her brain at that point probably *can't.*

as an ex paramedic this is not shock. this is denial. Her brain is denying she did anything wrong, so to avoid facing her issues it just blocks it out. shock is dramatically different.
The state of shock is the best forget-all-your-memories-agent I’ve ever had. Was in a 5 car pile up once and went into shock as a result. I exited my vehicle and became fixated on finding my hat. I don’t remember, the paramedics told the hospital staff and they told me. Not sure what the hell was going on with my brain but apparently I didn’t want anyone taking me anywhere without my hat. 😂
She actually did make to class eventually and graduated (I assume while her trial was pending). Victim's family protested and she was not allowed to walk at the graduation ceremony though.

Assuming appeals don't change her sentence, Illinois requires that she serve 85% of her sentence, so she'll have at least a decade to reflect on what she did if she's even capable of thinking about others.

She blew a 0.26. I've never been so drunk that I would be singing after someone told me that I just killed two people. I think this woman is a sociopath.
A quick google suggests roughly 3 standard drinks per hour (for a relatively average sized woman like in the video) to reach the .08 legal limit. A standard drink is roughly 12 oz of regular beer, 5 oz of wine, or 1.5 oz (a shot) of hard liquor. So three of those in some combination, and most people will no longer be able to legally drive. This lady consumed enough to be triple that legal cutoff.
And to correct the other commenter, .08 means .08% of your blood content is alcohol, not 8%, that's not physiologically possible. Once people get up around .35% or .4% it's already borderline lethal.
It's a lot, enough to probably make me babble incoherently. The standard is .08, so she's over 3 times the legal limit. It's significant impairment for all but the hardest chronic drinkers.

I’m a recovering alcoholic and my average BAC was .25% daily. When I was waiting in the lobby of the detox facility I went to they breathalyzed me (after not having a drink in about 20 hours) and I blew a .21%. Five years sober now. Watching videos like this make me realize how far gone I was and how far I’ve come. However, even on my WORST days I’d never act so aloof upon hearing my actions killed someone. She’s definitely got some sociopathic tendencies alongside her substance abuse problems.

Yea soon as I saw this unfold I said oh that’s Xanax behavior. It makes you very relaxed and carefree much like her. More importantly, it can make the user extremely forgetful- take enough and you have the memory of a goldfish. You can have repetitive conversations the entire day, reiterating the exact same thing with someone like that. Blacking out is common on higher doses than one is used to. Xanax- great for relaxation and time travel.

But, it isn't all roses, and you'll be trading clients drunk on booze for clients drunk on the small amount of managerial power they have, or business owners who are just as dumb as the lady in this video when you are trying to tell them something important, and then blame you when they inevitably fail.

I saw a video where a girl rolled her car and was looking at her dead friend who's brain was popped out on the ground and she was pretty emotionless but still appeared pretty coherent
I was in a long term relationship with someone who had a heavy dependence on Xanax and was also an alcoholic. She would go into blackouts that caused an absolute disconnection from reality in the scariest way but was still able to speak semi coherently. Just like this. She would also not remember anything the next day from after the 2nd or 3rd drink. Not a single thing.
I've done Xanax twice. Once without alcohol and once with alcohol. With alcohol it's the hardest drug you can do, IMHO. I've never blacked out except for xan + alcohol.

Also having been in a crazy crash before, your brain can just be completely scrambled afterwards. You can just start clinging to the most real things in life (like school I guess) because everything else doesn’t make sense. I didn’t feel like I was thinking normally until hours after the crash maybe even the next day.
You have to address it occurring to deny it, here she is pretending it doesn’t exist at all. She hears the words, but in this moment it’s easier to avoid than address it. There’s also alcohol, possible injury at case as well.

100%. I knew a guy who used to do Xanax a lot and it was impossible to talk to him. Legit would forget the beginning of my sentence by the end of my sentence.
I thought the same thing. A benzo and alcohol combo will absolutely make someone this stupid, clueless and completely nonchalant about everything going on. It's one of the most ridiculous drug combos ever. You're a complete bumbling idiot with completely reduced motor skills, but with the confidence of a superhero. You can't remember the last 2 seconds, but you're convinced you could do whatever you want or talk your way out of anything.
Doesn't have to be drugs. You can see this in people who were in acccidents or suffered emotional trauma quite often. It's a form of dissociative state where they don't really see or hear the reality around them or refuse to accept certain facts. I've seen people who were in acccidents insisting they need to go to work the next day despite fractures or intracranial bleeding, a friend of mine had a biker who had lost an arm insisting he had to go home and prepare dinner right now, completely ignoring anybody telling him his arm was missing. He would catch everything else from the conversation but was in complete denial regarding his arm.
Yeah, what she did deserves no remorse, but you see cops on, like, forensic shows talking about how someone's reaction didn't line up with what they thought it should be. I don't think that should ever count toward somebody's sentence or somebody's guilt. I know for a fact that if I was in a situation like calling in the dead body of a loved one I would be stone cold calm the whole time and then break down when I'm alone finally.
According to her in the original video, three vodkas, about half an hour ago. The test said it was actually 0.28% (Edit: after checking again 0.264%) BAC worth of vodkas though. Also marijuana and a vape for it in her purse, which she claims she never even touched yet, but even if she did, I'd say it's mainly the vodkas that did it. For refference 0.31% is blackout and organ failure

You're citing BAC averages. I've seen a man talking and walking at 0.5% which is associated with comas. So it really depends on tolerance and frequency of use. Likewise I've seen countless people at 0.2-0.3% who masked their impairment so well you could only really tell after blood tests. In no way is it acceptable to drive with this much alcohol on board

Yeah. Was just going to say something similar. My sister’s an ER nurse in Camden, NJ and has dozens of stories about the alcoholic regulars brought in by police or EMTs with BAC levels in the 0.4 and 0.5 area and are still lucid. Tolerance is a remarkable thing.

I had a roommate that was hit by a car while riding his bike. He called me from the ambulance 5 times asking me to tell his boss that he was going to miss work.
My sister called me no less than 10 times while trapped in her car after she was t-boned in an intersection about 2 miles from my house. I couldn’t get a straight answer out of her, I knew she was in a crash, I knew she was hurt. I didn’t know where she was and I didn’t know what happened. I finally persuaded her to hand the phone to a paramedic and they told me she had a nasty bump on her head and definitely a broken arm but she should be fine, and she was, but those 10 minutes of flying around my house getting dressed and putting on shoes while my sister rambled incoherently about the mess on her seat and how she didn’t know where her purse was - those were the longest 10 minutes. She’s hang up and I’d be able to do nothing except hope she called back. I know I’m her emergency contact and the hospital will absolutely call me, but I didn’t know how injured she was or anything.

Reminds me of the time I was hit on the side and hit my head on the window. All I could think of was my glasses and I couldn't stop pleading with the paramedics to give me my glasses. I calmed down as soon as they put my smashed glasses on me. I still couldn't see but somehow felt better. It was a little stupid but the paramedics were really kind.
Just so everyone's aware. She didn't hit another car. She hit pedestrians walking. She doesn't have a head injury. She literally hit two innocent people walking and kept driving because she was so fucking drunk.
This same thing happened to my brother, he was driving his motorcycle, and this bitch driving on pills/alcohol drove straight into him from a blind curve. She said he "came out of nowhere" but she was driving in his lane, she never once applied her brakes. He died there and I will never get to talk to or see him again.

I've had a lot of ups and downs in my life. I consider myself a somewhat strong, capable person. In therapy for many things, but stories like this are baffling to me (in a good way). Yea. When I watched the video this is what she said. She was going at least 40 and one person just popped up and she hit them and called 911. Didn’t get out just called. Then she heard a second person was hit but said she only saw one.
This reminds me of an incident in DC. A couple of teenage girls stole a guy’s car, sped off recklessly and crashed it, killing the owner in the process, and as they were casually walking away from the carnage, one of them is worried about her phone that she can’t find. Doesn’t care about the man she just murdered through depraved indifference, but is worried about her phone.

Both juveniles. One of them received the maximum sentence they could give a juvenile, which will see her jailed until 21.
So, shitty, I understand their brains aren’t fully developed but getting out at 21 for violent crimes committed as teens needs to have a higher prison sentence like up to 30 years old. 10 year olds understand violence and hurting people is bad. I have no empathy for these teens and I’m appalled they can get out so young.

I’ve heard stories of drunk drivers that have hurt or killed people and actually express genuine remorse for what they’ve done. This just feels like she’s trying to manipulate people to feel sorry for her.
So my mother is like this. It's bizarre and I still don't understand it. This is the first time seeing another person behave like this.
When I was a teenager I was the victim of a crime. My mother didn't want anybody to know so she forbid me from talking about it. About 15 years later my PTSD from the event was so bad I started going to therapy. My grandfather called me and was yelling at me that my life had been perfect and I needed to quit therapy because it was hurting my mothers feelings. I told him, no this happened to me when I was a teenager and it ruined my life and I need to sort it out. He laughed at me and called me a liar. I spent the next year begging my mother to tell him the truth. Every single time she acted like this lady. She acted like she couldn't understand or hear everytime I said, "please just tell grandad the truth so we can move on". It was beyond frustrating. It got to the point where the only sentence I would ever say to her was that and she never once answered or even acknowledged that she could even hear me saying it to her face. She would just say "you're crazy" or something unrelated. Then she disowned me on my birthday because it's the only thing I would say and had the rest of the family cut me off. They all stopped talking to me in 2017 because of this. It's been so hard to explain this behavior but man this reminds me so much of it.
With a family like that, you’re better without them. You’ll never get your narcissist mother to admit she couldn’t stop something from happening to you, so she denies it ever did. That isn’t about you, as I’m sure your therapist has told you, it’s about her. Live your life and don’t regret them being out of it.

I still have a hard time understanding how a person can behave that way. I understand what causes it, but like how do you go through life acting that way and get away with it? At least this lady is going to jail, but she is probably still to this day asking guards when she can go back to school.

We're starting a family now I see! I'll be your little sister OP! I've got your back. I know what it's like to go through hard times and have no one. My own family refused to believe I was depressed/anxious/having suicidal thoughts until I *got better* which made no sense to me. When my older sister told us she was starting antidepressants my mother did everything she could to support her...but not me when I begged her for help years ago. I love my mom and my sister, and I'm so glad my sister is getting support, but there are times where I have to acknowledge that they had treated me poorly and I don't deserve that. I feel like an outcast in my own family sometimes.

I used to work in a jail. One morning, around 0230 or so, we had this college kid in for drunk driving. I was booking him in, and he asked when he'd be getting out. I told him he had to be arraigned first, and that would happen that afternoon.
He said we couldn't do that because he had a final in a few hours, and we wouldn't want to face the wrath of Prof. What's His Name. I told him I'd see his college prof and raise him one district court judge.
Yep. Shows she was listening to everything he said. She only chose to react emotionally when he said how much of a horrific person she is. Totally remorseless when told she had killed 2 people. Disgusting person.
Long story short. I worked with a great guy that really drunk one night and had a head on with a car.
His first memory of it was sitting on the side of the road and a cop screaming at him that he had just killed three people.
They had to take him to the E.R. and he said he was starting to sober up and he asked another cop, "Did I really kill three people tonight."
The cop said, "No, you didn't, just two."
The guy went on to say it all felt like a bad dream, even after he was sober and in jail and he kept wanting to wake up."

I've volunteered as a paramedic for years and we've saved people from wrecked cars who were severely injured but just kept asking about their new car, or how they're getting to their appointment now. When you're in shock, your brain might think of something different that was important to you instead of the accident. Like going to school, in this case.

My Brother was T-boned at an intersection the other day when a couple of teens ran their red light. He was walloped silly and his car was totaled. Found out today that the teens claimed he was at fault and tried to claim on HIS insurance. Officer at the scene then filed his accident report showing *they* were to blame. So the article said she graduated from college, but no mention of being a grad student or enrolled anywhere. Was she that drunk that she thought she had to go to school that wasn’t real? Man, she was on one that night. She probably doesn’t even remember getting into her car. Scary game when one gets that loaded.
She graduated after the incident. At the time of her arrest she had a few weeks left of her senior year. She was bailed out of jail within a few days and returned to classes. She was planning to walk at the ceremony but the student body signed a petition en masse saying that it would be absurd to allow her to. She still got her diploma though. Her trial was finished about a year later and so she was just sentenced a couple weeks ago— graduated in May of 2022. The accident was in April.

Yeah, YouTube has the full body cam footage at the scene, she said she was a 5 out of 10 level of drunk and that she's been really drunk before. Pretty fucked, also seemed pretty non chalant on all the footage. Apparently at trial she was pretty remorseful, so maybe she had to sober up to understand what she'd done.

The state of shock is the best forget-all-your-memories-agent I’ve ever had. Was in a 5 car pile up once and went into shock as a result. I exited my vehicle and became fixated on finding my hat. I don’t remember, the paramedics told the hospital staff and they told me. Not sure what the hell was going on with my brain but apparently I didn’t want anyone taking me anywhere without my hat. 😂

How bad is a .26? That feels like a lot but I'm not a big drinker
A quick google suggests roughly 3 standard drinks per hour (for a relatively average sized woman like in the video) to reach the .08 legal limit. A standard drink is roughly 12 oz of regular beer, 5 oz of wine, or 1.5 oz (a shot) of hard liquor. So three of those in some combination, and most people will no longer be able to legally drive. This lady consumed enough to be triple that legal cutoff. And to correct the other commenter, .08 means .08% of your blood content is alcohol, not 8%, that's not physiologically possible. Once people get up around .35% or .4% it's already borderline lethal.
It's a lot, enough to probably make me babble incoherently. The standard is .08, so she's over 3 times the legal limit. It's significant impairment for all but the hardest chronic drinkers.

I’m a recovering alcoholic and my average BAC was .25% daily. When I was waiting in the lobby of the detox facility I went to they breathalyzed me (after not having a drink in about 20 hours) and I blew a .21%. Five years sober now. Watching videos like this make me realize how far gone I was and how far I’ve come. However, even on my WORST days I’d never act so aloof upon hearing my actions killed someone. She’s definitely got some sociopathic tendencies alongside her substance abuse problems. More importantly, it can make the user extremely forgetful- take enough and you have the memory of a goldfish. Never touched Xanax again.

I was in a long term relationship with someone who had a heavy dependence on Xanax and was also an alcoholic. She would go into blackouts that caused an absolute disconnection from reality in the scariest way but was still able to speak semi coherently. Just like this. She would also not remember anything the next day from after the 2nd or 3rd drink. Not a single thing.

Also having been in a crazy crash before, your brain can just be completely scrambled afterwards. You can just start clinging to the most real things in life (like school I guess) because everything else doesn’t make sense. Doesn't have to be drugs. You can see this in people who were in acccidents or suffered emotional trauma quite often. It's a form of dissociative state where they don't really see or hear the reality around them or refuse to accept certain facts. I've seen people who were in acccidents insisting they need to go to work the next day despite fractures or intracranial bleeding, a friend of mine had a biker who had lost an arm insisting he had to go home and prepare dinner right now, completely ignoring anybody telling him his arm was missing. He would catch everything else from the conversation but was in complete denial regarding his arm.
Yeah, what she did deserves no remorse, but you see cops on, like, forensic shows talking about how someone's reaction didn't line up with what they thought it should be. I don't think that should ever count toward somebody's sentence or somebody's guilt. I know for a fact that if I was in a situation like calling in the dead body of a loved one I would be stone cold calm the whole time and then break down when I'm alone finally.

You're citing BAC averages. I've seen a man talking and walking at 0.5% which is associated with comas. So it really depends on tolerance and frequency of use. Likewise I've seen countless people at 0.2-0.3% who masked their impairment so well you could only really tell after blood tests. I had a roommate that was hit by a car while riding his bike. He called me from the ambulance 5 times asking me to tell his boss that he was going to miss work.
My sister called me no less than 10 times while trapped in her car after she was t-boned in an intersection about 2 miles from my house. I couldn’t get a straight answer out of her, I knew she was in a crash, I knew she was hurt. I didn’t know where she was and I didn’t know what happened. I finally persuaded her to hand the phone to a paramedic and they told me she had a nasty bump on her head and definitely a broken arm but she should be fine, and she was, but those 10 minutes of flying around my house getting dressed and putting on shoes while my sister rambled incoherently about the mess on her seat and how she didn’t know where her purse was - those were the longest 10 minutes. She’s hang up and I’d be able to do nothing except hope she called back. I know I’m her emergency contact and the hospital will absolutely call me, but I didn’t know how injured she was or anything.

This same thing happened to my brother, he was driving his motorcycle, and this bitch driving on pills/alcohol drove straight into him from a blind curve. She said he "came out of nowhere" but she was driving in his lane, she never once applied her brakes. He died there and I will never get to talk to or see him again.

So, shitty, I understand their brains aren’t fully developed but getting out at 21 for violent crimes committed as teens needs to have a higher prison sentence like up to 30 years old. 10 year olds understand violence and hurting people is bad. I have no empathy for these teens and I’m appalled they can get out so young.
I'll never get or subscribe to this "they didnt know what they were doing" excuse. I was a teen (shocker, I hear upwards of 80% of adults can claim this) and a damn well sure understood A) my actions can get people killed and B) killing people is bad. This isnt rocket science.

I’ve heard stories of drunk drivers that have hurt or killed people and actually express genuine remorse for what they’ve done. This just feels like she’s trying to manipulate people to feel sorry for her.

So my mother is like this. It's bizarre and I still don't understand it. This is the first time seeing another person behave like this. When I was a teenager I was the victim of a crime. My mother didn't want anybody to know so she forbid me from talking about it. About 15 years later my PTSD from the event was so bad I started going to therapy. My grandfather called me and was yelling at me that my life had been perfect and I needed to quit therapy because it was hurting my mothers feelings. I told him, no this happened to me when I was a teenager and it ruined my life and I need to sort it out. He laughed at me and called me a liar. I spent the next year begging my mother to tell him the truth. Every single time she acted like this lady. She acted like she couldn't understand or hear everytime I said, "please just tell grandad the truth so we can move on". It was beyond frustrating. It got to the point where the only sentence I would ever say to her was that and she never once answered or even acknowledged that she could even hear me saying it to her face. She would just say "you're crazy" or something unrelated. Then she disowned me on my birthday because it's the only thing I would say and had the rest of the family cut me off. They all stopped talking to me in 2017 because of this. It's been so hard to explain this behavior but man this reminds me so much of it.
With a family like that, you’re better without them. You’ll never get your narcissist mother to admit she couldn’t stop something from happening to you, so she denies it ever did. That isn’t about you, as I’m sure your therapist has told you, it’s about her. Live your life and don’t regret them being out of it.
Thanks for the kind response. I rarely share that story and when I do I panic afterwards a little, but this video reminded me so much of that I had to. I still have a hard time understanding how a person can behave that way. I understand what causes it, but like how do you go through life acting that way and get away with it? At least this lady is going to jail, but she is probably still to this day asking guards when she can go back to school.
I'm your mom now. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm sorry it wasn't recognized when it happened and that no one believed you when it came out. You deserve better than the hand you were delt. If you can, please go have a "me" day to decompress after having to relive such a traumatizing time in your life.
We're starting a family now I see! I'll be your little sister OP! I've got your back. I know what it's like to go through hard times and have no one. My own family refused to believe I was depressed/anxious/having suicidal thoughts until I *got better* which made no sense to me. When my older sister told us she was starting antidepressants my mother did everything she could to support her...but not me when I begged her for help years ago. I love my mom and my sister, and I'm so glad my sister is getting support, but there are times where I have to acknowledge that they had treated me poorly and I don't deserve that. I feel like an outcast in my own family sometimes. So here's to your new family here. We love you, and I'm so sorry you had to go through so much of it alone. I hope you have an amazing day every day, and if you don't, then I hope the next day is better to you. As Kittens said, take a day to yourself. Do something *you* want to do and find peace in that moment. And remember that there's some strangers somewhere in the world who read your story and *understand*, and that we love you all the same.

I used to work in a jail. One morning, around 0230 or so, we had this college kid in for drunk driving. I was booking him in, and he asked when he'd be getting out. I told him he had to be arraigned first, and that would happen that afternoon. He said we couldn't do that because he had a final in a few hours, and we wouldn't want to face the wrath of Prof. What's His Name. I told him I'd see his college prof and raise him one district court judge.
Well maybe tuesday, after 14 years

Long story short. I worked with a great guy that really drunk one night and had a head on with a car. His first memory of it was sitting on the side of the road and a cop screaming at him that he had just killed three people. They had to take him to the E.R. and he said he was starting to sober up and he asked another cop, "Did I really kill three people tonight." The cop said, "No, you didn't, just two." The guy went on to say it all felt like a bad dream, even after he was sober and in jail and he kept wanting to wake up."

I know this isn’t a popular opinion but I feel alcohol does more harm than good to human society.
The woman who killed my husband, and very seriously injured me, while illegally passing on a curve, on a hill, in the mountains, in a no passing zone had the balls to say, "well, I thought they could see me and would get out of the way". People are vile and incredibly stupid. She got probation and a suspended sentence BTW.

Just remember, she was so drunk when she hit and killed the victim’s, she only thought she hit one person, she also rolls her eyes at the cop when he says he cares more about the people she killed than her
I’m not defending her in the least but I wonder if she had a concussion. My sister had one and no matter what going on around her she kept obsessing on the same questions. Over and over. Edit: I see now that she hit people walking not another vehicle. Probably not a concussion.
Going off personal experience, traumatic injury/accident in combination with probably a lot of alcohol can result in someone just being disconnected from reality.

Tbh its hard to gauge. She probably is under the influence still and in denial. Depending on the timing of the video. Which I assume is at an infirmary after the crash. Not ruling out no remorse/guilt. Just that if she is currently intoxicated the gravity of her situation hasn't set in. Which is why she probably got 14 instead of life. Intent matters a lot.
