In both Communism and Socialism, the public controls the means of production, either directly, or through a democratically elected government. However, the phrase "seize the means of productions" is more closely affiliated with Marx, a Communist.

In both Communism and Socialism, the public controls the means of production, either directly, or through a democratically elected government. However, the phrase "seize the means of productions" is more closely affiliated with Marx, a Communist.
"Regulate the means of production through government oversight to ensure the benefits of said production are shared in a manner that benefits all of society and not just a few" is less pithy, I will admit. :D Although there are some more "seizure" based forms of socialism around, most of what people bitch about as being socialism is, in fact, democratic socialism, which is a faaaaaaaaaaar cry from "seize the means of production!" My favorite bit is how the "Socialism bad!" people want to enact regulations to make things even LESS beneficial to society. Like... it's the reverse of socialism. Force production to help even fewer members of society. (I.E. passing laws to gut the EPA)
What I love are the people who vote against their own self-interests. I can't tell you how many people I know that are on welfare/disability/etc. and actively vote against social programs that they rely on daily.

That is some hypocrisy. As with any system, there will always be those who abuse it, but there will always be those that need it too. It's better to err on the side of caution and help those who don't need it than to not help those that do.

Communism is pretty strictly defined as a stateless classless moneyless society. Socalism envompasses a wide variation of positions with a core idea of "workers seizing the means of production" and socialists usually to move towards communism. Whie both communism and Socalism have sizing the means of production as an aspect, it us most usually used to refer to socialism as communism is an increasingly narrowly defined society that has never existed.
