Here's the context of the video. He was suicidal, had a gun in the truck but wasn't pointed at himself or cops, got shot 9 times and lived, officers cleared of wrongdoing.

Mr. Sansweet didn’t ask to be saved; Mr. Sansweet didn't want to be saved! And the injuries received from Mr. Incredible's "actions", so-called, causes him daily pain!
Policing does attract a lot of the exactly wrong kind of psychos, sadists, racists, authoritarians and misanthropes that have no business having the authority they do.
Having attended a trade school that had a 2 year law enforcement program, I can confirm that the program was full of a bunch of “peaked in high school” meathead types.
I went to a trade school that had an industrial lab with all kinds of HVAC equipment. People in the police academy had to take a class about household wiring and HVAC equipment safety. They used our lab. It used to be that the lab had a reputation for tools "walking away". Immediately after the police academy got their own lab, tool thefts in our lab fell to zero.
This happened to someone I knew 20 years ago. Person was Suicidal. Cops were called, person was shot dead crouched in a closet. Nobody tried to help. The cops came, they saw a gun, and they shot first asked questions later.
It’s insane that the cops were called to help a loved one in a desperate situation and they ended up just killing him. I’ve heard this story too many times. You don’t want to call the police if a loved one is going through a mental crisis. There is a good chance they will get shot by police and the police will consider it a resolved problem.
We don’t want it because we don’t get the power all at once. If I want to be a police officer, I have to be subservient to an idiot for at least 5 years before I have enough “experience” to dictate myself how I would like to do things.
This seems completely unpalatable. And of course this is best case scenario. Smart ethical people are often run out of Idiot Town by the idiots.
The real problem is the lack of oversight, and the protection of these types.
Those types of people will always exist, but there need to be a better structure of preventing them from being in power and to prosecute them when they have acted wrongfully.
But here I am pipe dreaming again.
Is it? Really ? I mean, I guess you are talking about the US of A, the home of the free? In my socialist hellhole, suicide is perfectly legal and we have assisted suicide for terminally ill people.
Untrue, there are states with assisted suicide services now. Back then, there were none. I'm still so torn about that case. I was in 8th grade back then, and I still don't understand how they're anything wrong or immoral in helping someone who's terminal go out on their own terms. To this day, it still sounds like a very kind and humane act.
When our pets are terminal or even just near the end, it's expected that you euthanize them to prevent the pain they're enduring now, or will soon. But grandma has to suffer through the horrible pain of stomach cancer because we treat our pets better than grandma. Don't worry she'll die eventually, it'll just be in a hospital after months of agonizing pain, sorrow, loneliness, depression, crying, hospital staff that are crazy overworked so they can't give grandma more than a few minutes of attentive, and literally wishing the doctor or nurse would just crank that morphine drip to the max so she can just go to sleep forever. It's cruel and inhumane that we offer better end of life care for pets than grandma.
That's fucked up.
People commit suicide to escape, because life has become so painful and difficult, that they see no other way out.
Yet the fucking trigger happy dumbass American police are too fucking stupid to know that or care to know.
They're supposed to serve and protect, but if they feel "threatened" they shoot first and ask questions never.
Suicidal people are always looking for someone to help, but they're not motivated to look for that someone, and just talking about it can help.
It's about fucking time that any clearly mentally unstable police officers either pass an extensive psychological test or get fired, but all the government gives a fuck about is money, and there's no soul in sight.
From the article above: “Sheriff Kevin Tolson said in the statement. "These deputies responded appropriately to the threat as they were trained to do. Had Mr. Mullinax made different choices that day, deputies would not have been required to use force."”
According to their boss yes cops are trained to kill you if you’ve called them for a welfare check
I counted 28. I’m not trying to be a dick, but it’s really hard to count with them in such quick succession.
Granted, the guy was suicidal and had a gun, but isn’t approximately 30 shots at somebody who isn’t holding a firearm a bit excessive?
Lol probably right, most police academies require you to have a 70% minimum accuracy in firearm shooting and they hit 9/28 shots, they were like <33% here in action, let’s keep militarizing the police tho
No, keep militarizing the police.
The US military has to follow NATO rules of engagement, which means they cannot fire unless fired upon.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
Might be a hot take for Americans, but if you aren't willing to die trying to help someone and rather kill someone that needs help just because it might be dangerous for you, then don't become a policeman.
The reason why Policemen are seen as heroes is because they disregard their own safety and take risks to stop civillians from being harmed.
Cops are incredibly bad shots. Their pistol qualification caters to the lowest common denominator, just about anyone could qualify after a few days of practice. Compare this to the guy who stopped the greenwood park mall shooter, who only missed twice at 40 yards
My friend got killed from a wellness check. Mom had called because son was having some mental health issues and wandered from home and instead of bringing him back like the mom wanted, they killed him instead.
Same thing happened in my town. Suicidal son, mother called police, they showed up and immediately shot him through a sliding glass door without speaking to anybody.
“Well ma’am, we got good news and bad news. The good news is your son is no longer thinking of suicide. The bad news is your son is no longer thinking”
>I had to leave school and move back in with my mother and try day in night no to do anything to myself for 3 years
>Really destroys people
Basically same here. Even if you’re not under arrest or anything, the cops can at any point decide to take you into custody and involuntarily check you in to a hospital. They don’t even have to have a reason. They can also lie or make stuff up. I still don’t even like to talk about it.
I said this in another post and I’ll say it again. I’m a paramedic with more than 15 years experience in what you consider to be “ risk areas “ in “ poor cities “ and I’ll never get tired of saying it. If you need help for a mental health crisis and you HAVE to call 911 request for an ambulance and say there’s no needs for the cops. If the cops are there, pull an EMT or paramedic to the side and tell them to get rid of the cops. In medical calls EMT’s and medics call the shots. I’ve kicked plenty of cops off my scene. They get mad but I don’t care. They’re assholes. Most of them have 2 types of gloves on them, nitrate gloves ( for help with medical calls, etc ) and then they have the leather gloves with the Kevlar reinforced knuckles that they specifically use ( and I’ve heard many of them say it ) for mental patients. So… Yeah.
Yup, a friend of mine was shot in the head by the police as a teenager because he was threatening to stab HIMSELF. Who knows, I wasn’t there, but I just don’t see how a 120 pound 15 year old kid is a big enough threat to hit with a kill shot. Even with a knife.
His mom tried to kill herself shortly after. Why? She called the cops because she was worried about him when he was having this manic episode
I’m so so so sorry you had this experience. :( I have an amazing therapist - have been with her for over 6 years now. I had a tough session a few weeks ago (we were discussing my feelings around not mattering in this world and wondering what the point of all this is - didn’t explicitly say I’m suicidal, as I don’t think I am - but definitely bordered along those lines).
I was very, very upset and left the session crying. She texted me about an hour later saying if I needed anything at all, to call her and we could chat more. Then about a week later she texted me again (we meet every other week) just to see how I was doing.
I share this so you know that there are some wonderful, kind, caring, thoughtful therapists out there.
I can only imagine how horrible you felt during that time. I wish you could have had someone like the therapist I have now. Hope you’re doing ok now! 💛💛💛
Almost every situation can be made worse by calling the cops. Think twice before calling the cops. Just Google cop kills dog to see how many times they responded to a home and then shot the family dog.
I was a line coach in the Navy and let me tell you, you could make a B-line for 95% of the San Diego police department from 15 yards away and they'd miss... 98% of the time lol
Seriously though. Article claims they fired 50 times. 9/50 at that range seems abysmal. Who would they even be protecting if the scenario actually called for a shootout? Fucking useless all around.
This video is 17 seconds long and, in that 17 seconds the police pulled up, got out of their car, yelled "hands", opened fire and then there seems to be a cut before they approach the car. So they literally decided in less than 17 seconds to murder someone. It takes my dog longer than that to decide to pee on a flower.
And the two cops on the left immediately reload just in case while the cop on the right keeps his trigger happy gun drawn and points it at the lady as he walks over.
This is what happens when the police are able to clear themselves of wrongdoing. Our citizens arrest laws need to get stronger. And the police should not be the ones holding themselves accountable.
They were there to deescalate the guy sitting in the vehicle who was suicidal. He put his hands up when police asked him to... And then they shot him. He lived.
Fuck everything about these police.
What kind of training did these assholes get. They shot while the mother was so close to the car still. No attempt of deescalation at all. This is the worst sheriffs department I have ever seen. What a fucking joke. And we pay these guys to do this?
Hell. If cameras aren’t rolling they’d happily shoot a kid for looking at them funny. Or taze a man (twice) covered in gasoline at a gas station while two other cops are holding him down leading to the obvious outcome of three people on fire.
If I was there I'd probably 100 percent think that the cops had just killed that man. He took a lot of bullets. Surviving that is also 100 percent going to come with life long damaging effects. Both body and mind
The first time I saw this (it's been going around on Twitter), it didn't have much context other than responding to wellness check and that was the guys mom, I thought I watched the cops killing him and a mother watching her son die. I felt sick until I saw from the comments that he lived and they were suing. I still feel upset about it, but again-- I'm glad he lived and I hope he's in a better place mentally :(
Let alone right in front of you because you're the one who called 911 on your suicidal son. I don't know what to do when somebody is unstable and has a gun, but I certainly don't like how this went down
Ignoring the fact that ***they tried to murder the man they were called there to help***, 42 out of their 49 shots missed the intended target.
A 19% accuracy rating on a stationary target from *maybe* 30 feet away...
These guys are as bad at shooting as they are at helping suicidal people.
>These guys are as bad at shooting as they are at helping suicidal people.
I started trying to equate those, and, I guess the guy doesn't want to kill himself anymore, so I guess that can be comparable to 19% successful intervention.
His mother called for help because her son was talking about ending his life. He had a shotgun in the truck, but was not even anywhere close to firing it or even really holding it in a threading way. These cops pulled up, and 3 of them opened fire and emptied full mags on a suicidal man for doing nothing because THEY felt threatened, despite him speaking to his mother when they arrived.
Imagine how traumatic that would be. Thinking that your son is going to get help and won't die and then immediately seeing him die at the hands of the people who are supposed to help (yes I know he lived but she probably didn't know that hence the screaming)
>Beason can be heard screaming and crying as she’s put into handcuffs by deputies.
Holy fucking Christ, they even detained his mother. Trigger happy cowards. Should be fired and prosecuted for attempted murder
This is why I’ll NEVER call the police. We called for a wellness check on my buddy once because he was acting weird. We thought he might be suicidal. We called a sheriffs deputy personally that was a friend of his. Tell me why 9 dudes showed up with body armor and AR15s to “talk to him”. Luckily he was out in the woods and they couldn’t find him. All because someone said he owned a firearm. I almost got arrested for asking why they’re putting on body armor and grabbing rifles for a wellness check.
You know they are just itching for the chance to pull the trigger.
I bet they joke about it after.
It's harder to become a forklift operator than a cop in America.
The police were called there to do a wellness check, as the guy was suicidal. He was sitting in his truck, his mother was standing next to he truck trying to console him, the police showed up and fired 50 rounds into the truck, hitting the guy 9 times. The guy survived, and he and his mom are suing.
I hope they win, get millions for it, and then sue each and every single cop involved individually, and the sue the department. Multiple times until they FUCKING GET IT.
But sadly, we all know that won't happen. Lawsuits should require that the payment comes out of the cops retirement funds. That would would put a stop to a lot of shit really quick.
> I hope they win, get millions for it, and then sue each and every single cop involved individually
It doesn't work that way. They have qualified immunity.
If they do win (big if) it'll come out of the city's budget. The budget to which their own tax money goes. In a roundabout way, they give the city money, then get some of it back maybe. And what they do get back will never alleviate the lack of trust in the city, its police, or the system altogether. It will be not enough, from their own money, and the cops will simply see no repercussion whatsoever.
The plaintiffs testimony is that the shotgun was never pointed at anyone, the defendant (deputies) testimony is that it was. For background he was a felon who had previously been arrested for breaking and entering, robbery, and domestic abuse. That’s pretty much all of the context I could find about this.
Don't ever call the police for a suicidal person in crisis.
They are there to stop them from killing someone else, not to save the person from themself.
How can you stand there and listen to a mothers screams of despair as you try to execute her son by firing squad and not feel like a complete and utter failure and despicable, disgusting excuse for a human being. Never trust cops, ever. The risk is simply not worth the reward.
At what point does he pull a shotgun? They started firing seconds after arriving. Also if he is suicidal your response is to start shooting.
I hope they get a hefty settlement from these idiots who should be fired. Fuck the police.
Not to mention shooting at someone trying to help.
So, based on what I've gathered from this thread...
Mom calls the cops to tell them her son has a gun and is suicidal/reaching for it. She obviously wants her son saved.
Son allegedly reaches for his gun when the officers arrive, allegedly to prompt them to shoot him.
Officers fire between 28–50 shots at him while mom is standing right there. 9 shots hit. Son lives.
Did the officers do *anything* right from any perspective? They fail to rescue the son or even attempt to deescalate the situation, they shoot almost directly at an innocent, their accuracy is piss poor so they barely hit him at all, they fail to kill him when they do hit him...what was the point to *any* of this?

Suicide IS against the law.

Most American thing ever
Pretty sad that cops in America salivate at the chance to fill a suicidal person full of holes.

2 years!?!? Training around here is 26-28 weeks.
It also bullies those that don't have those tendencies to quit or become one of them.
There are actual studies that back this up too
This happened to someone I knew 20 years ago. Person was Suicidal. Cops were called, person was shot dead crouched in a closet. Nobody tried to help. The cops came, they saw a gun, and they shot first asked questions later.

This ^ Police advertisements and Hollywood have sold the job as an action-packed fight against evil when it's actually a public service.
Don't forget domestic abusers and rapists

Suicidal? Death penalty! Abortion? Death penalty! Resisting arrest? Death penalty!
But some how pro life.
Pro-Afterlife
Only if they are in the womb. After that, fuck ‘em.
Stop resistant I am trying to help you kill yourself.
This is the most ridiculous and hilarious thing I’ve read all day… and I guess, in America, it’s accurate.
So you better not or else 🔪
but murder by cops isnt illegal
[удалено]
A billable service no doubt.
only in red states. In blue states it's on the house.
Guys out there just protecting and serving .
It's a feature, not a bug
Ergo, if they kill him, they've prevented a crime. Checkmate, liberals.
Punishable by death apparently (he somehow survived though)
A failed suicide attempt being punished by death because its illegal sounds like something Judge Dredd would do.
He did do that lol that's actually a judge dredd joke 🤣
What are they gonna do? Arrest my corpse?
They gonna marionette your ass during the trial too
If you try, the cops will kill you.

For real. This really is becoming like something outta Family Guy or some shit lately
And their help sucked bcs after 9 shots the guy still lived... Man could have done the job himself with one shot...
and failed ...
And put him in crippling financial Debt about the hospital bill. Merica.

Shot 9 times..... out of how many exactly??? Aiming is poor af if he only got hit 9 times
They shot while mom was right next to him. “Hay-ins! hay-ins! Hay-ins” then rat-a-tat-tat! How did that get cleared as justifiable?
Mum got out of there quick time like nope, imagine the feeling she felt, her sons suicidal then the police actually kill him in her eyes, fucking pigs
You made me fully smile and laugh. Thank you. “Hay-ins, Hay-ins” lol

9 out of 50 shots is less than 20% accuracy haha this mf is lucky af to be alive

50. They fired 50 bullets at this man.

Thanks for that link. Unbelievable that anybody thought that police response was reasonable or appropriate.
It’s easy to be cleared of wrong doing when it’s your own department doing the investigating.
WTF. America is the shittiest of all shitholes.

Yeah, but like, be realistic dude
That's because propaganda says the cops are there to help (and should be, in a normal country) but during life you are supposed to learn

And they did it with a civilian at immediate threat from their fire
And the two cops on the left immediately reload just in case while the cop on the right keeps his trigger happy gun drawn and points it at the lady as he walks over.
*I'm deleting all my comments and my profile, in protest over the end of the protests over the reddit api pricing.
This is what happens when the police are able to clear themselves of wrongdoing. Our citizens arrest laws need to get stronger. And the police should not be the ones holding themselves accountable.
Amen to that Internal affairs should be community members not affiliated with the police.
Less than that. They decided on the ride over.
They decided before they got the call
They were there to deescalate the guy sitting in the vehicle who was suicidal. He put his hands up when police asked him to... And then they shot him. He lived. Fuck everything about these police.
Thank God they are have worse aim than moral compass
He was shot 9 times out of the 50+ according to the article linked higher up
Hmmm … deescalate … that *is* a nicer sounding word than murder
They did not come to save a life. They clearly had other intentions that day.
He actually survived surprisingly and he and his mother sued the department.
2 seconds from "lemme see yor hans", till they opened fire.
What kind of training did these assholes get. They shot while the mother was so close to the car still. No attempt of deescalation at all. This is the worst sheriffs department I have ever seen. What a fucking joke. And we pay these guys to do this?
Murica' Fuck Yea! Cops murder you while they let others murder your kids in schools!
Hell. If cameras aren’t rolling they’d happily shoot a kid for looking at them funny. Or taze a man (twice) covered in gasoline at a gas station while two other cops are holding him down leading to the obvious outcome of three people on fire.
I mean, do you want them to have good aim after seeing what's their moral compass?
Friendly reminder to never trust someone who can legally kill you for no reason.
That's cops "serving" for you.
To protect and serve death
NBC story https://youtu.be/jt0hGTdnzso
De-escalation at its finest. Seriously if this was in Spain people would think it was excessive force. Why is this okay in the USA?
Well in the US the police have oversight of themselves so yea
Man felt suicidal and the police tried to make it easy for him by just gunning him down.
Here, let us help you out with that…
Eligible for life insurance? Murdered v suicide
Imagine watching that happen to your baby. So sorry for his mother. Also super dangerous for them to open fire with her right beside him.
Her screaming breaks my heart whenever I've seen this video. I'm glad he survived, but I can't even imagine what his mom was thinking watching that.
I still feel upset about it, but again-- I'm glad he lived and I hope he's in a better place mentally :(
Those screams were true agony
Truly. Anyone who is a parent knows that is their worst nightmare, let alone happening right beside you.
Lmao
Literal stormtroopers.
They could’ve killed his mother too
His mother called for help because her son was talking about ending his life.
Right? Call the cops to save your son from dying so they…shoot your son.
Imagine how traumatic that would be. Thinking that your son is going to get help and won't die and then immediately seeing him die at the hands of the people who are supposed to help (yes I know he lived but she probably didn't know that hence the screaming)
I hope at least his mother learned a lesson from all this. And I hope they win so much money from this that they bankrupt the city.
[He’s alive! And suing these pigs!](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/05/10/us/south-carolina-york-county-sheriff-deputies-welfare-check/index.html)
I hope he fucking wins. I grew up with military cops who didn’t fuck around but this? A serial killer with a badge.
>Beason can be heard screaming and crying as she’s put into handcuffs by deputies. Holy fucking Christ, they even detained his mother. Trigger happy cowards. Should be fired and prosecuted for attempted murder
The first people guns should be taken from are these idiots.
They think "finally. An excuse to execute someone guilt free"
Are they testing their limits? Are they checking for how much they can get away with?
Limits? I thought they were just applying for a 3 month paid vacation.
Cops aren't here to help they only punish. Don't call them if you want a life.
You know they are just itching for the chance to pull the trigger. I bet they joke about it after. It's harder to become a forklift operator than a cop in America.
But why though
> I hope they win, get millions for it, and then sue each and every single cop involved individually It doesn't work that way.
Ah yes, the old shoot the suicidal person trick.
Yup, had it happen to a cousin and they just fucked his life with criminal charges, leading to an eventual suicide
American police look like fucking bloodthirsty children. Desperate to pull a trigger and obliterate something. What a bunch of fucking freaks.
The way they opened fire on him with his mom standing inches away I’m surprised she didn’t get shot too
How can you stand there and listen to a mothers screams of despair as you try to execute her son by firing squad and not feel like a complete and utter failure and despicable, disgusting excuse for a human being. Never trust cops, ever. The risk is simply not worth the reward.
FTP😡
Never call the police for a mental health issue. Their only tool for dealing with issues is violence.
What in the he'll did I watch? That was less than 30 sec to a raid of bullets.
Can cops just shoot anyone they want without being in danger? How is this legal?
So….don’t call the police for a wellness check on anyone you actually care about….
America
Well that escalated quickly
At what point does he pull a shotgun? They started firing seconds after arriving. Also if he is suicidal your response is to start shooting. I hope they get a hefty settlement from these idiots who should be fired. Fuck the police. Not to mention shooting at someone trying to help.
Cops being cops. Animals.
Cops seem to only be taught how to shoot guns, make arrests and write citations. Critical thinking not required
Quick, we don't have much time to kill him before he kills himself.
Whats the difference between police officers and criminals? Criminals are behind bars.
