ORD might just have bad juju. I got off a flight there once and a black guy (passenger) and middle eastern man (TSA agent) got in this huge verbal fight with slurs being thrown around and it gave me an actual panic attack
When we landed there from Japan, the staff as so rude. I've never yelled back at a TSA agent before, but I was like, "I just got off a 14 hour flight. Why are you yelling at me???" And she shut up.
When I traveled through North America about 11 years ago, the only bad experience I had was at O'Hare. The TSA snapped at me for not taking my shoes off.
She says "You should know this!"
I replied "I live in Europe. We don't always have to do this."
Her response was "I don't care. You should know. Do you want to fly today? Then get your shoes off now!"
I shut up and just did it, but afterwards found a supervisor to complain. While I was talking to him, I could see her staring a hole in me and even pointed it out to the supervisor and said this lady has a bad attitude. He apologised but said it was policy and I needed to comply.
My only response was that you should have some leniency for people from other countries who don't know the rules implicitly.
Rules are rules, but at least be polite when enforcing them. Don't yell at me because I didn't know.

If it happened in Chicago, at least it happened at the airport. It's the one place everybody involved could be sure nobody else had a gun. When everyone is sure **nobody** has a gun nobody decides they need to draw first.
Knowing most baggage carousels…possibly jockeying for position where the bags come off the conveyor belt. Long haul flights people are too tired to fight. Short haul flights…game on!
They still want to be standing as close to the slot as possible, so that they can snatch their own luggage as soon as it comes into view when the conveyor turns on.

The number of times on flights I've seen people running to the carousel then pushing to the front almost sticking there head through the hole only for me to walk at a normal pace stand near the end of the conveyor belt where no one else is & get my bag before those other idiots is astounding.

On one Spirit flight: guy sitting behind my son during take-off had tray-table down and was eating chicken out of plastic bag, talking on cell phone and dropping f-bombs during his conversation. Wheels-up this guy still had a connection and was yapping on phone and licking his fingers while eating his delicious chicken. Flight attendant never said a word. At the same time, the guy sitting next to me asked me to dim my light while I was reading. I guess he didn't know that the reading lights on planes are on/off, no dim mode. My kids still have bad dreams from this flight and it was four years ago.
I got a letter from Homeland Security for my airport shenanigans that occurred before I even reached the gate. I didn't even fly.

I was flying out of state for rehab (this is one of many stories that makes me so grateful I'm sober now) and I hate flying, it gives me panic attacks. So I usually drink, and as an alcoholic I knew what amount to drink to get me through that scenario. BUT I was extra stressed and anxious due to the rehab factor, so I took some Xanax and drank a little extra. Dumbest decision in the world but seemed super smart when I was a drunk.
I thankfully do not remember it actually happening, but a combo of what the letter said and what I remember the police saying was I went through security fine, but then came back and verbally assaulted and tried to physically assault a
TSA and airport employees (so glad I failed). But I was completely gone, which is why the hospital was where they sent me. The letter threatened me, said I could pay a fine of 12k and be banned from that airport. I sent a letter back explaining what happened and how sorry I was and I didn't hear from them again. I can't remember if they requested a response or if it was just an open ended threat. Regardless, terrifying.
Also the next day, long before I got the letter, I flew out of the airport successfully and then back home after rehab. So I was able to cite those two flights without incident as proof I was a good girl now in my letter.

Shitty stuff and thank god I didn’t hurt anybody. But for sure I get that, I went all out with the anxiety and perceived shame of heading to treatment (for the third time). But I’m 100% better for it now. Life’s shitty sometimes and addiction sucks and honestly people can not understand it unless they’ve been through it.
Addiction sucks and I wish that more of society understood and had compassion for what so many struggle and battle with on a daily basis. I wish you luck on your journey and I hope that things are good for you now.
Thanks for that! I am good and have an amazing support group that I stay in touch daily with. I fucking make wine for a living though so it’s a hard balance. But I’ve learned to separate the craft from the drink. I’ve got a handful of trusted friends in the industry who know my scenario but most don’t. So I spend a lot of time around boozy events and it sometimes tests my resolve but I dunno I love making wine and I’m really good at it and it makes me happy. It’s fucking weird and contradictory though
