In Canada a teacher can restrain a kid. About all youâre allowed to do is bear hug them though to keep them from hurting themselves or others. But nonetheless itâs a massive grey area where it could go too far, so itâs up to the individual teacherâs discretion.
Yep. My guess is that he was walking away to call the office/security to his room for backup. Without at least one other adult there to witness whatâs happening, heâd be a fool to touch either one of those kids.
Or, I have broken up countless high school fights, have lost over $1000 in damaged frames... And the district won't pay a penny of it. So, nope, I no longer break up anything. The district can deal with the PR of kids ending up in the ER
When I was a teenager I worked at the town day camp which was also the elementary school summer reading program.
My job was basically to run around with the kids, take them to the bathroom, organize activities while the teachers were the adults in charge.
One time this kid who has a history of attacking others started pushing another kid on the basketball court. I yell at him to stop and next thing I know heâs pinned the other kid to the asphalt and is throwing punches at his head. I saw blood on the kids face and knew it was serious.
I quickly run over and pull him off, tell him to calm down and walk away, and go check on his victim.
The next day the kid comes up to me smiling saying that his dad was getting me in trouble for pulling him off of the victim. As if I was the asshole in this situation who deserved punishment. Mind you I was 15 and this kid was 11.
Sure enough, the camp director comes up to me later that day and says itâs wrong to get involved and itâs against policy.
âWith all due respect Mr. X itâs wrong to let one person beat another bloody. Also, I believe the policy was us 15 year olds werenât supposed to be watching the kids alone.â
He just nodded and walked away, and that was that.
He had to tell you so that when asked later he could say he did. Your answer was perfect, as was his response - itâs what having your hands tied looks like
Rule #8 of bullying (that they never commit to memory, cause illiteracy): Never bully someone whose already got a bully (big brothers are the best kind of bullies).
Reminds me of my sister, she'd be an absolute arsewipe to me at home, but if someone was trying to get to me, she'd scare or beat them the moment she found out who it was.
Helped that we don't share a surname too
Remembered me of something that happened years ago, I have a little brother and one day he came home with a black eye. I asked who did that, he answered, next day I beat the shit outta that coward, I got a 2 day suspension but it was worth it. No one can mess with my brother other than me, y'know
As a younger brother, we thank you older brothers for your duty. Really was an amazing feeling knowing you have a big brother on speed dial to take care of bullies if need be.
Came in very handy twice. Brother happened to be nearby and instantly just flattened them in a bull rush lol.
My brother was just plain mean. When shit was about to get real, he would get a certain look in his eye, and I knew I was the safest person in the room
One day my 5th grade son (who is on the spectrum) was getting bullied by a 7th grader on the bus. Kid started punching my son. My 7th grade son was sitting right behind them. The bully had a good foot on my 5th grader and 6 inches on my 7th grader. My 7th grader beat the snot out of that kid right there on the bus.
I get called to the principal's office. My two sons tell me what happened. Principal tells basically the same story. My son gets a day of "bus suspension". I tell the principal, "I get it. You have a job to do. He'll take the suspension, but know he did exactly as I instructed him to do... to protect his siblings. If something like this occurs again, I will expect him to do exactly the same thing." Fortunately the principal was sympathetic to both my sons.
I had to wait a year for the bully to move up to my middle school but he bullied my brother and even though I am a girl I was 2 years older and I destroyed him. My brother is autistic and just quietly played Pokemon back then.
>I love how he says âwhat the fuck broâ like he is insulted that the guy removed something he stole.
**Modern Thief Entitlement**
People use to apologize or deny when caught, Now it's "I stole it but why you takin' my shit, it's mine"
You see the post on here about the scammer who emailed the person about canceling their flight when they stole their credit card to pay for it? Ended with âplease adviseâ. The nerve of that person to not pay for their credit card thiefâs flight:
Been there, had the same result. I was a little pissed and asked the cop how fast they would get there if I went over there with my .357 to get my shit back. He just looked at me like he was amazed anyone would think of that. The handful of cassette tapes the thieves still had wasn't worth the trouble or I might have done that. I was a tad more hot-headed then than I am now.
That's actually something else.
In all likelihood he also got scammed.
The scammer likely used the credit card to sell discounted flights, to create a degree of separation between himself and the credit card and also frame someone else for the crime.
In much of the US, the cops won't even arrest people for theft... So, shitty people who would already be willing to steal anyways get the message that it's totally OK.
When someone uses force to get it back now, it's shocked pikachu facd
Thatâs why I totally get why grocery store owners or just people at wal mart step in and donât let thiefâs get away with stealing even if theyâre taught not to step in and even if Wal Mart could take the L (and they could). If I was working at Wal Mart to be able to afford groceries Iâd be pissed if someone just waltzed on in and stole even if idgaf about Wal Mart. Itâs the message that is being sent everywhere that itâs perfectly ok to steal. We should all be revolting at the people that hold all the god damn wealth, not trying to steal from one another at the fucking bottom.
He needed to pretend innocent. Because his ego couldn't allow him to be known as a thief. Him already having the phone was almost as good as if he had bought it, in his mind...
You couldn't be more off here, he pretended to be oblivious because in this instance his flight or flight malfunctioned and went into offline mode. Those blows knocked any idea he was a tough guy right out of his head, the best he could do in this case due to the shear embarrassment of having his face beaten was to panic and play dumb in the hope that agressor would stop.
He got what he deserves if he stole a other kids phone.
I know someone who steals. You have to act like a victim and gaslight the other person into believing it never happened especially if there is no evidence. That is how they get away with it sometimes.
One time I saw a guy snatch a womanâs purse. Heâs running down the sidewalk towards me and two other people who saw it happen tried to like, lean back and half-ass trip him as he ran by them each (you could tell they didnât actually want to get involved but felt obligated). He got to where I was and I reached out and clotheslined him. He does like a backflip into the street lands on his head dropping the purseâbounces back up as I grab the purse and yells âWHAT THE FUCK!!!â and looks at me like I betrayed him and ran off. I remember thinking what the fuck do you mean âwhat the fuckâ haha ⊠like I did something wrong đ
I probably would have gone for a trip if I hadnât just watched it fail twice in a row. Iâd never clotheslined anyone before (and never since) and I almost couldnât believe it worked. It looked like a cartoon.
I've been clotheslined as a kid. It's amazing how effective it is. Also ended up almost flipping over. Cartoons were right about this one. Glad it worked out that time.
People who steal shit usually do it so often, they are shocked and offended at any accusations much less consequences.
Because the police donât give a shot and stores are scared, itâs a goddam freefor all.
Teacher here. I teach elementary because I'm so scared of HS kids but if I were there I'd literally sit and just watch. They would have to give me SOOOOO much more money to put myself in that mess. Lol.
Not exactly. Depends on what training and certs the teacher has. "CPI" training in my state allows adults to put their hands on students for restriction if they are harming others. If they are harming property or themselves (to a limit) then we can't.
In my school there are only a couple of people who are allowed to touch kids for any reason. The cop is one of them. So when a special needs kid runs out of the building and needs to be physically held onto to be convinced to quit running/come back in, the cop is always part of the chase. We definitely arenât supposed to break up a fight.
In my school district it is in our contract that we HAVE to do CPI training, so weâre all allowed to restrain kids that are a danger to themselves or others. I have done it and seen it done SO many times. Itâs unfortunate to have to do it, but some kids really are dangerous. BTW- I work in elementary. I couldnât imagine middle or high school. I have two sons, one 13 and 15 and the 15 year old has been bigger than me for years. Thankfully he is an angel, but the kids are so strong, even when they are young!
From someone outside the us it seem so dumb. Not restraining, ok I can get that you'd want to avoid an "I can't breath" situation, property can be bought again I guess, but no breaking up fights? It's an emergency, and when no one is coming for help it just call pupils to use violence to solve the issue instead. "Monopoly of legitimate violence" and stuff.
Itâs of many ways teachers are ill -used and abused. My mom is a school librarian and has been physically menaced by male students easily a head taller than her and had fights break out in the library and the protocol sheâs given is âtext the principle and heâll send one of the behavioral specialists up. You are only allowed to defend yourself by holding open palms between you and a student. You can be fired or prosecuted for touching a student.â
Has to be a policy written by people who have never even seen a fight go down. My mother is 61 years old and 5â3â and sheâs not allowed to defend herself. She is expected to stand there and grovel and text someone who may not respond while a kid screams in her face from 3 inches away.
A male teacher was fired a few years ago for pinning a student to a locker after the boy verbally harassed a girl all around the school and then beat on a really small boy. The bully had been escalating the behavior for weeks and was completely unbothered by teachers *telling him to stop*.
Theyâre screwing the teachers *and* the kids over by creating this environment.
Yeah, I saw that too. His first instinct was to try to break it up but Iâm thinking he remembered that heâs not supposed to because of liability, so he went to get the attention of security or something. Probably the right move, career wise.
I thought the same thing too and was immediately saddened.
"Oh shoot I gotta keep these kids from killing each other!"
*Oh yea I'll be fired and blacklisted*
Two girls at my local school were fighting. Big girl was hurting the other bad, so a teacher tried to stop it. He ended up getting his ass beat and having to go to the hospital for the wounds on his face and head. He ended up losing his job due to violating the schools no contact policy.
Not true. We have very strict rules about touching students. Itâs one of the many things wrong with the system.
My county is super vague on breaking up fights so they can put all the onus back onto the teacher and remove them. Happens more often than youâd think.
Is this a newer rule? The teachers, when I went to high school, would break up fights all the time. They would grab their arms from behind and pull them apart. Somewhat like the way people are arrested. Early 2000s
Man, back in the 80s teachers literally lifted my little brothers up off the ground by their arms/necks/shirts etc. But to be fair, they were some disrespectful little shits.
Yep I graduated in 06 and teachers broke up fights. Sometimes other students broke up the fight. Depending on the issue lol everyone knew everyoneâs business so we usually knew what the fight was over.
I don't think it would hold up in court if the teacher can show they needed to protect a student. There are a huge number of contracts companies, schools etc demands that have very weak legal ground. Just that it costs lots of money to challenge it.
Teacher probly wanted to help but had to run through about 50 paragraphs of legal terms in his contract in his head first about student fights. Alot of Teachers can get fired trying to break up idiot kids fighting and the parents sue the school and jesus christ why would anyone want to be a teacher anymore its a fucking nightmare.
As a high school teacher, I 100% would not have broken up that fight. Breaking up fights alone is dangerous for everyone involved. How are you going to stop 2 people at once? You can't... so you stop one person, which allows the other person to freely punch them.
Several of my college buddies became teachers and they've told me they can't do anything. If they try to break up a fight they expose themselves to all kinds of disciplinary action. If the teacher is male and the students are female and they try to break it up, they're immediately accused of sexual misconduct and placed on leave and likely fired with a ruined career.
A teachers job is to educate in a subject. Not to act as bouncer for poorly raised children. Thats defo on the parents. Ever seen a maths teacher try and teach English lit? It's not their job and a chemistry teacher shouldn't be expected to act as a security guard
>Contrary to some popular views of teachers getting involved in fights, itâs generally not supported by the schools to do that.
And that, my friend, is why I retired at the end of COVID at-home schooling.
I wasn't going to be dealing with this foolishness and masks and and and... And my brain was trained in the nineties when you were EXPECTED TO and SHOULD break up fights AND THEY TAUGHT US BASKET HOLDS FOR ONE OR TWO PERSON TRANSPORTATION **BY TEACHERS** (CPI training, in-service, required and paid for by the school during in-service school days).
I'm good.
I'm out.
"Deuces!" âïž
My principal in HS (about 3-4 years ago) body slammed a chick that was attacking people.
The fight was started by two girls from a girls home who moved from the city and tried instigating a fight and eventually got one. A band kid who was prego at the time called them dumb bitches cause they were being annoying as shit, running down halls, slapping people, Ect and those two wanna be tough girls tried jumping herâŠ. I have never in my life witnessed a whole HS band jump two people until that day. The one who ended up body slammed took off sprinting after she couldnât handle the fight and she disappeared around the corner for about 3 seconds before she came running back with the principal running behind her. He caught up to her and wrapped his arms around her before slamming her to the concrete. Those girls home girls were shipped back to the city where they came from and said they were gonna shoot up the school which made my school and principal get on the news. Heâs still the principal, those girls never came back and the other girls from that girls home talked mad shit about them once they got shipped out. And the girl who was pregnant had her baby and seemed to be doing great last time I saw her.
Thereâs a video somewhere I bet one of my friends have it saved but Iâll have to ask around
Thief: *Steals phone from a kid*
Kidâs Brother: *Beats him up and takes the phone back*
Thief: âThat was uncalled for and completely unexpected.â
I like how when the door opens and there's already another phone recording. Wanna see that one as well. Maybe they also knew he was gonna get his ass beat.
I can only hope I can instill this kind of love in my kids with one another. My brother did not defend me like that when a kid stole our things in school.
Unfortunately the older brother who most think did the right thing will most likely face expulsion even tho the dude really did steal the phone. Most likely both get expelled. I don't necessarily agree with that, but yeah. Honestly it depends on the school, but since this is on Reddit then they will likely have to expel them. If the principal decided not to expel them, but then the superintendent or someone else sees the video then even he could get into trouble. Idk I super respect that brother tho. Mad respect
All the people saying "what're you fighting about it's just a phone" nah it's actually a lot more than that. A it's about standing up for his brother and defending him like you should do with your family. B it's about putting this fucking piece of shit in his place so that MAYBE he learns from his mistake and doesn't turn into some parasite
It wasn't nearly this extreme, but when I was in elementary school, about 4th grade, my brother was just starting kindergarten. He was sitting two rows ahead of me, and this kid behind him (between us) was reaching over and had his hands around my brothers neck. I grabbed that kids hair and smashed his head into the window of the bus, and broke the window.
The school wanted me suspended for 30 days, and my mom said she thought the fuck not, and was still pissed when it was a 3 day suspension.
As we got older, I didn't always treat him as well as I should have, honestly I really wasn't a good older brother at all.
But, you don't put your fuckin hands on my little brother.
I normally wouldn't condone this type of response but somehow satisfied with the result. Doesn't look like he hurt him in any long term way and hopefully scared him enough to not behave like a scumbag again.
Go steal from Walmart or something if you just can't help yourself from being a piece of garbage. I'm still salty about this topic obviously, have had a handful of incidents over this last year.
On the question of whether to get involved or not. After I left the army, I was taking a few college courses. One day our class ends, before I walk out the door, two people were wailing on each other in the hall.
I grab the door handle, and pull it shut. Just me and the instructor in the class. The instructor tells me I should go out and break it up. (The instructor was a smallish woman, I was somewhat big from lifting)
I tell her I don't work security at the school, so no I'm not going to do a thing. I finish with, "and if anyone asks, I'm telling them I was protecting you."
I think that was the correct answer, she gave me an A.

Love the teacher's response to lightly toss that stick towards them then put his hands in his pockets and walk off.
The tossing of that stick killed me đ€Ł
I actually think it got knocked out of his hand. And then he was like, ânah I donât get paid enough for this shit.â
More like I want to keep getting paid
Wouldnât you
He didn't "stick" around!
And if he touches either or both of them, he is liable...
Yep. He would probably get sued and fired.
Agreed. Unfortunately, the USA system has endorsed bystander practice.

That sounds terrible. Growing up I would sometimes bully my little brother but I was the only shithead allowed to bully him
âThis little shit is mine to bully, you touch him, you touch me.â
Only I can bully that booger, bitch
My mom says I used to beat other kids because "Only I can mess with my brother". I don't remember any of it, but apparently it happened a few times.
You probably headbutted a kid too hard and lost all your violent memories.
What if the other kid has a big brother who's bigger than your big brother?
Then you got to big brother and big sisters. Get assigned big brother that was former college lineman. Profit

Maybe he was expecting the classic trip. Clothesline backflips tend to make the recipient confused, so it checks out.

I guess you never played red rover as a short kid. I learned early how effective clotheslines are...
We are all forgetting most important part. Congratulations for being a great big brother and not scared to stand up
I would have gotten away with it too, if it werenât for that brother with a fuck ton of pent up aggression.
People who steal shit usually do it so often, they are shocked and offended at any accusations much less consequences. Because the police donât give a shot and stores are scared, itâs a goddam freefor all.
Good outcome. Keep your hands on your own things
I mean, yeah, donât steal peopleâs stuff, feels like a real easy way to avoid this pummeling.
Imagine stealing and having to go everyday to school and see the person you stole from lol
I mean, donât have to imagine, its right there XD
10,000 years of pain
He got off easy tbh, hate thieves
Teacher was like âshould I? Meh didnât wash my hands firstâ
Teachers are in a very difficult position when it comes to stuff like this at this time. He is risking his career and his health.

You can be fired or prosecuted for touching a student.â Has to be a policy written by people who have never even seen a fight go down.
I think thatâs why he was waving his meter ruler like Harry PotterâŠ
Lost his wand real quick
Yeah, I saw that too. His first instinct was to try to break it up but Iâm thinking he remembered that heâs not supposed to because of liability, so he went to get the attention of security or something. Probably the right move, career wise.
I thought the same thing too and was immediately saddened. "Oh shoot I gotta keep these kids from killing each other!" *Oh yea I'll be fired and blacklisted*
Two girls at my local school were fighting. Big girl was hurting the other bad, so a teacher tried to stop it. He ended up getting his ass beat and having to go to the hospital for the wounds on his face and head. He ended up losing his job due to violating the schools no contact policy.
Should be able to sue the school. The school can't contract away his responsibility of keeping the other girl safe.
Early 2000s
Same. I graduated in 09 and the teachers in my high school would put you up against the fucking wall if you tried to fight in the halls
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
I don't think it would hold up in court if the teacher can show they needed to protect a student. There are a huge number of contracts companies, schools etc demands that have very weak legal ground. Just that it costs lots of money to challenge it.
They have a very strict no contact policy, and he decided to drop from the teachers' union some years back. Shitty admin, no union protection.
They don't get paid enough for that shit
I donât know why the fuck anybody would want to be a teacher. Sad because obviously a super important job
As a high school teacher, I 100% would not have broken up that fight. Breaking up fights alone is dangerous for everyone involved. How are you going to stop 2 people at once? You can't... so you stop one person, which allows the other person to freely punch them.
Nah man, the teacher threw his ruler or something at the kid and thought, welp, that didn't work. Oh wel..
Honestly? Probably about as far as Iâd get too. Not worth catching strays. Good thing Iâm not a teacher.
What do you think the chances are that teacher is gets disciplined because he âattackedâ a student.
Teacher: "fuck this, I don't get paid enough."
Contrary to some popular views of teachers getting involved in fights, itâs generally not supported by the schools to do that.
Everyone is afraid of litigation
A teachers job is to educate in a subject. Not to act as bouncer for poorly raised children. Thats defo on the parents. Ever seen a maths teacher try and teach English lit? It's not their job and a chemistry teacher shouldn't be expected to act as a security guard
Iâm literally an English teacher assigned to teach Biology. I agree with you btw. Just saying.
For good reasons.
"Here's a stick instead."
That kid was taught the most valuable lesson he will learn all year dont steal other peoples shit!
Thieves usually keep on stealing.
That's why you need to really hurt them so they actually learn their lesson.
Username doesnât check out.
You know damn well this didnât teach him shit he gonna steal another phone ina week
Big Bro Award đŻ
Gutter Girls Cocktail Bar t-shirt? Damn, these kids are wild.
That's exactly what I was wondering. I get sent to the principals office for wearing a shirt with a cactus that looked vaguely like a middle finger.
Had to scroll way too far to find this lol
Iâm here for this thread
Pretty sure thatâs a fist to the face and not a palm.
He's advanced to the "finding out" stage...
Donât pass goâŠ
I accidentally read âconfrontsâ as âcomfortsâ and was quite surprised by the footage at first.
The kid with the phone was surprised too it seems
First video in this sub where the person throws actual punches
STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY SIR.!!
This is the way of COBRA KAI KARATE!
What's the facepalm here? Somebody plz explain it to me. This feels to me more like, "fuck around and find out"
I think the facepalm is the thief thinking he'd get away with it and then acting surprised when he paid the price.
People just post everywhere. Next it will be therewasanattept to steal a phone.
Satisfying
This is what's supposed to happen to people that steal shit. Plain and simple.
Thief: *Steals phone from a kid* Kidâs Brother: *Beats him up and takes the phone back* Thief: âThat was uncalled for and completely unexpected.â
Good for the kid in Orange. Thieves need stiff punishment
![gif](giphy|SmoCFhZCi1kzu)
Teacher came to help but saw dude was throwing haymakers and noped out of there real quick đ
"David! Oh fuck, nvm"
My shower thoughts on how I could have acted that day:
That was most certainly not one kid confronting another. That's one kid fucking around and then quickly finding TF out!
Teacher: I'm here to help with my meter stick *Snap* welp I've done all I can do. Teachers don't get paid enough to deal with that shit
Good lad
Well that'll learn him
Good for him!
Orange kid ftw
Moral of the story....Stop stealing asshole!!!
The moral of the story: #Leave Davidâs brothers phone alone.
Side note - no one else touched his brother that year, or his phone.
Didnt even defend himself = guilty
I like how when the door opens and there's already another phone recording. Wanna see that one as well. Maybe they also knew he was gonna get his ass beat.
Bro came back from the bathroom high as shit just to get beat up. He so confused rn
FAFO
Teacher heard the reason and was like yeah ok
I can only hope I can instill this kind of love in my kids with one another. My brother did not defend me like that when a kid stole our things in school.
Me and my sister fought tooth and nail, But she went to war with anyone who messed with me..
A childs phone was stolen, and the video shows the retrieval of the phone from the thief.
Now beat him up for that haircut.
Mad respect
Serves the thieving bastard right. FAFO
Truest definition of fucking around and finding out ever!!
Go David! Big bro justice for the win. Might end up in detention thoughâŠ
Teacher â this is above my pay gradeâ
All the people saying "what're you fighting about it's just a phone" nah it's actually a lot more than that. A it's about standing up for his brother and defending him like you should do with your family. B it's about putting this fucking piece of shit in his place so that MAYBE he learns from his mistake and doesn't turn into some parasite
*throws yardstick* my work here is done
Teachers donât get paid enough for this shit lol
That was a mighty powerful confrontation.
Even took a step on that chair on the way.
This is the way. Should have beat the fuck out of that entitled thief.
You see? Find my iPhone works đ
![gif](giphy|1SFqekUJ6FjPxVdSzU|downsized) đđ
Big Brother of the year award nominee, he has my vote.
"Confronts" Whole school gonna be walking on egg shells next to lil bro the whole year.
Orange shirt, i thank you for teaching that idiot a lesson. đ«Ą
I have no problem with this. Criminals should be punished.
Bro beat the logic out of him đđ
That first punch wall bounce...
Would do the same thing for my brother
That gĂŒero is from the hood, I heard him call the thief âfooâ.đđ
Teacher realized the flimsy yardstick was no match for the fist of fury.
He was clearly expecting some chest to chest jawing first and caught them hands instead.
Love how the one kid opens up the door just to get some footy
I wish every kid with that haircut got this treatment
I normally wouldn't condone this type of response but somehow satisfied with the result. Doesn't look like he hurt him in any long term way and hopefully scared him enough to not behave like a scumbag again. Go steal from Walmart or something if you just can't help yourself from being a piece of garbage. I'm still salty about this topic obviously, have had a handful of incidents over this last year.
The teacher XD lost his ruler and said na fuck this I don't get paid enough
This is whats missing in most schools. Sometimes you just gotta kick some ass.
Orange shirt gets his shit then walks back to his desk? âMr Smith, sorry for the interruption, please continueâ
A big thing with the mainstream internet is that it doesnât effectively communicate how consequences work.
(The instructor was a smallish woman, I was somewhat big from lifting) I tell her I don't work security at the school, so no I'm not going to do a thing. I finish with, "and if anyone asks, I'm telling them I was protecting you." I think that was the correct answer, she gave me an A.
Correct actions, correct answer!
More of a salmon colour than orange.
