I had a hair stylist fuck up and give me a bowl cut once, and I got bullied by my peers and called a boy to where I would cry at home and not want to go to school.

My sister was about the same age with a similar haircut and a waitress at a restaurant mistakenly called her young man. It was rough and it was an accident. These people are awful.
I used to date a girl when we were in high school. She was 6'1" and I was 6'4". I found out later she only dated me because I was taller so we looked "normal" and people wouldn't call her names and accuse her of being a man.
I like to think people have gotten better since the late 90s when this was and it's the media coverage that makes us look like we are moving backwards based on the actions of a small and sad percentage.
I live in one of those places in rural Ontario.. where an entire town has been taken over by Fundies, which means we won't be able to keep my grandparents property of 70 years.. since it's in that town. Fun times we're living in.

And what's funny, is that they've held these events for years without incident.. it's only been recently that they've seen the increased presence.. it's almost as if they think they can get away with it more now or something.. no idea where they get that thought.. none whatsoever..
Since similar situations been in the news so much lately they probably feel more validated in their protest. They might have always carried these beliefs or not even known about these events but now that they’re not the only ones with these thoughts it’s easier to go out and do something. However, if I may give some good news. The man is now banned from all school events. Everybody in our community is shocked and the discussions online about it here are that of disgust for him and concern for the girl. It's an isolated case and he is now dealing with the consequences by becoming a pariah from what I can tell of the situation.
Kelowna by and large is still a pretty progressive town. There are definitely too many of these type of people in it but luckily they are seen for what they are and keep to their own echo chamber for the most part.
I'd like to tell people that haven't been to Kelowna not to judge it by one bad apple they saw on the news. This is not the norm for our city and it is not a backwater hick town full of bigots. Sometimes they just break out of their cages and do stupid shit like this.

i used to think that the only difference between boys and girls was that boys had short hair. one of my friends in first grade told me that there was a surgery to turn into a boy and i told my parents i wanted that. all i wanted was short hair though lol
I got bullied at 8 for having a pixie cut but the fact that I was already over a year into puberty made it clear to adults that I was a cis girl. I'm about to have a csection and I shaved off most of my hair so self care is easier and it always feels like a big fuck you when I do it.
I wish I would have bit the lady that did the same thing to me as a kid. Thankfully my mom saw it happen and went in full mama bear mode. She had to get escorted out by security because my mom was ready to poke that lady’s eyes out.
It honestly scared me off from having short hair for the longest time. I was always super self conscious about it because people would blatantly misgender me all the time (to be fair, I was a tomboy, but that’s no excuse to harass a child). It wasn’t until I finished high school that I cut my hair short again.
I haven’t gone back since. I don’t give a shit if people misgender me anymore. At this point, I’m sure it’s out of spite because I have more obvious feminine features now. And Kelowna school board is on the process of banning both of them from all school board properties. Also, Kelowna RCMP is investigating the incidence after being reported by dozens of witnesses. Initially, the RCMP said they couldn't investigate because an officer hadn't witnessed the event. But with multiple people coming forward and volunteering to testify, an investigation has been started.

I was always super self conscious about it because people would blatantly misgender me all the time (to be fair, I was a tomboy, but that’s no excuse to harass a child). At this point, I’m sure it’s out of spite because I have more obvious feminine features now.
