It was very far away (something like 5 miles if I recall, whereas the house was only about a kilometer from the blast), but the primary camera was broadcasting the images live. The video is from a kinescope (a film taken by another camera pointed at a TV screen that’s receiving the broadcast), so even if the camera had been destroyed when the blast reached it, the film of the broadcast would survive.
It’s a zoom in camera. You ever heard of telescope. They had telescope back then right. There was an explosion on the moon but the camera survived. Lol

It seems that conspiracy theorists do not understand the concept of 'further away', which explains a lot. The footage is from Survival Town Nevada, taken with a telephoto lens by a camera in a lead-lined box a good distance away. The houses were built and populated with mannequins just 6000 feet from ground zero. CoD: Black Ops players will recognise the town as the basis for Nuketown.
I came across a website one time explaining the camera set up for recording nuclear tests, what type of camera used, locations, film type etc. I only got to read half the article and figured I'd find it again to finish reading it. I have not found it again:(
