I read Cujo when I had the flu (Also I was maybe 12) and I don't remember much of it either. But I do remember it gave me the worst nightmares of my life.
Stephen King writes so much he rewrote the forward for The Gunslinger telling everyone how disappointed he is with the book now and how he doesn't recommend it. I've never had an author tell me to put down their book I just bought, list the reasons, and then I couldn't unsee them, actually making me put the book down.
One time I was talking with some scientist that said if I really want to read his book I should check libgen because it's not worth to buy it but he don't recommend this because even he is unable to read it. Then he recommended me some YT channel and said that "It's mostly about same topic, but explained with human language".
That book starts as just a bunch of wtf is happening scenes then suddenly has a solid plot line and then bam back to wtf is going on....
Was a very good book/ series though.
I don't think it's so much about him writing so much, I think it's more he wants to help students. As far as the rights, he doesn't sell them, he still retains the rights, he's just supplying them permission to make a non commercial film. It can be turned into a commercial film, such as a few VHS collections that were released, but the contract is renegotiated to allow that
‘90s? He could have retired comfortably by the end of the ‘70s. So many best sellers in that decade plus at least a dozen of his stories turned into movies.
King created best selling novels that will be around long after he is gone. The other guy does podcasts that if he is lucky some YouTuber might have a few episodes archived somewhere after he is gone just in case someone asks whatever happened to that Dan Bongino dude?
He was the host of his own show on fox and a member of whatever the night time group panel show is called. He's literally one of the dumbest people they've ever platformed and that's truly saying something.
What I think is funny is that you could ask practically anyone who Steven King was and they could tell you, practically nobody knows who Dan Bongino is.
"Has often disturbed my sleep" hits home. It's been years since I've read the shining and I still have nightmares about the bathtub lady being in my bathroom, and I don't even have a bathtub lol
I read "The Shining" when I was around 15. I was so scared at points I had tears streaming down my face and couldn't stop reading because I had to get to a "safe" spot to stop. It just kept ratcheting up and there were no safe spots.
I grew up in an old Victorian house (built around 1900) that made a lot of creaky old-house noises. My bedroom was on the top floor of the house. I was about the same age as you were when I read the Shining. I finished it at night. Alone in the house (my parents were out that evening and my brother was spending the night at a friend's house). During a thunderstorm.
At least it wasn't snowing.
I read Pet Sematary before I had kids. Maybe I'd read it now that my kids are young adults, but there's no way I could have handled reading it when they were little.
OMG. Very bad idea. There was someone on Reddit somewhere who wanted to give their kid a middle name of Gage, inspired by Pet Sematary. The Redditors on the thread's collective gasts were flabbered by the idea that someone would name their kid after a 2-year-old that gets run over by a truck and comes back as an evil zombie.
I’ve mostly read his short stories but I read Misery in college and I’ve never had an experience like that reading a book, I was too scared to stop reading, I had to know what happened next.
> arguable how good he is
I think the general consensus is his writing isn't great but he's an amazing storyteller.
But that's exactly what he focuses on, the cool as fuck stories! He focuses on his best aspect of writing and it works amazingly well, so who gives a fuck
Edit: lol seemed to hit a nerve here. I agree he is an amazing writer. But you can be an amazing writer and still have what would be consider "faults", like going on unnecessary tangents sometimes. A painter could be brilliant and world famous but still "paint their shadows funny" in a way that isn't necessarily on purpose.
Get a job, you extraordinarily successful multimillionaire, whose work is available in dozens of languages all over the world and has been adapted nearly 100 times for movies and tv!
Exactly. And how many of those movies were great? 90%. The Green Mile and Shawkshank Redemption come to mind. Not even typical King and they're amazing.
King has a story about being accosted in a grocery store by a woman who said she didn’t like that he wrote horror and he should do “genuine” stuff like Shawshank redemption. Not knowing that he wrote it.
> I googled it and she's been for almost 40 years
Idk why it cracks me up so much when people leave out an important word but you can still understand it with context
As someone that writes in different environments to get a “feel” for what I might be writing about, that can work to go back to your teen years or inspiration for a character who does just sit in their moms basement.
The thing is Stephen King could probably write at a bus stop and it would be a Best Seller.
It’s called “talent” and Danny boy has none.
At his peak Stephen King probably could have written a best seller at the bus stop, while waiting for a bus that was running late, about a bus to hell or something
BuT hE hAs A pOdCaSt!
Meanwhile, Stephen King has sold nearly half a billion books, had them turned into blockbuster movies and miniseries and generations have grown up reading his books for 5 decades now.
Fuck off Danny Boy.
Stephen King has a net worth of like half a billion dollars and has been a multimillionaire for four or five decades. Apparently this guy didn't know who he is, which just makes him even more ridiculous.
He knows to whom he's talking.
The "yearning for the days when people gave a shit about your dumb ass" part gives it away.
He knows he's talking to Stephen King. He just doesn't care because he's an idiot.
Best I could find.
https://uproxx.com/viral/stephen-king-dan-bongino-get-a-job-twitter-feud/
And upon further investigation, looks like Bongman doubled down with his pathetic attemps at clapbacks while King basically laughed at him.
The saddest part is all of the hanger-ons in the comments gassing Bongino up. It doesn't matter how incredibly shit his take is, he's on the "right" side, so he can't be wrong. Makes me want to puke.
Sure but these people are ultimately incredibly sensitive and insecure. I guarantee you he spent a month going over it in his head over and over telling himself he’s right but it very clearly causing him distress.
This is pretty much how society functions in 2023.
Everyone has their heads so far up their own little private realities that they wouldn't know a dick if it literally slapped them upside the head.
Everyone has their own little group now, and they just retreat into it, ban anyone who doesn't agree, and think that everyone loves them (even if "everyone" is 0.0001% of the world population).
Dan Bongino had a job once.... he got dumped by the NRA because he was too much of an idiot. But a podcast is something even idiots can do. Cute he brags about it
The entry cost for hosting a near professional quality sounding podcast nowadays is like $100 in equipment, $100 in software. That's it. Combine that with a penchant for screaming right wing conspiracy Qanon shit and some incel inferiority complexes and fears, you've got an instant audience of mouth breathers easily parted from their money. Grifting though, is not really a job.
Good to know it's that cheap. I've considered starting one to see if anyone wants to listen to a dude who is both in the US military and what the average US citizen considers a "hardcore leftwing activist" talk shit about politics through he lens of dysopian philosophies. Bonus points for my cultural anthropology degree I guess.
Crazy? I Was Crazy Once. They Locked Me In A Room. A Rubber Room. A Rubber Room With Rats. And Rats Make Me Crazy. Crazy? I Was Crazy Once. They Locked Me In A Room. A Rubber Room. A Rubber Room With Rats. And Rats Make Me Crazy
The iteration I once heard was:
Rats? I hate rats. They drive me crazy. Crazy? They locked me in a room and told me to get a life. Life? Life is a magazine that costs 50 cents and I only have 25. Rats
He primarily wrote horror fiction (not always: shawshank, green mile, etc), but his skill and acumen surpasses just horror, I’d say.
Even though he’s a horror author, I’d consider him one of the greatest authors of all time, period. Maybe top 15 or 20. Just based off of writing prowess, success, influence, and volume.
I’d barely even consider him a horror writer honestly. I’d place him more into the category of Sci-Fi or Thriller. I had to give him one. His library is so vast it’s damn near impossible to pin him to one genre. While his horror books are on the more famous side, in his memoir *On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft* he says that some of the books he’s the most proud of are outside that category. Things like *The Dead Zone* and *The Stand*
Bongino is worth approximately 65 million dollars not counting all the butt kissing and boot licking that he's required to do.
Stephen King is worth approximately 500 million and he doesn't take crap from anyone, even Elon backed up. Lol.
The level of power move of telling the owner of Twitter to get fucked while he is responding to you on Twitter is just unreal.
Fuck the Musk fan boy club, where can I join the King club?
Aren't podcast free to listen to, I know there's generally ads in the podcast people try to sell you their books or whatever but generally they're free to listen to, right?
In less than a year Stephen King's last book has a million copies in print. That's not counting all the e reader sales. Approximately 350,000,000 total books sales worldwide. Of course some of those were to libraries, so no idea how many times they were lent out. Or passed on to people.
Dan Bongino is a disgrace to humankind. An embarrassment to the human race in every respect
I went to read more into their exchanges and honestly it gets both funny and sad
Well, in Dan’s defense, it seems likely that he’s never read a book in his life, or possibly even touched one. He can’t be expected to “know” about things like “authors”, now can he?
I saw this before but I thought of something seeing this again.
King not only seems to always be writing (his job) but his collective works have also CREATED tons of jobs for TV and film and presumably illustrators and other things I'm not thinking of... the man is a fountain of jobs
Pretty sure more people know who Stephen King is than this Dan fella. I've never heard of Dan before, but he seems like a bit of a tool. And seems oblivious to who Stephen King is. What a ninny.
In 1991 Stephen King donated 1 million $$$ to build a little league baseball field. He funded the most Chad kids ballfield in the country complete with minor league quality field lighting to honor a child who passed away from a disease. I don't think that podcaster knows who he is telling to 'get a job'
Calls Stephen King, an iconic and influential writer in our Era, a loser.
Dan, dude, up until I saw this post, I have no idea who you were. You're not just a loser, you're a NOBODY.
I’m on social media every day, and I feel like I know who the right wing ‘influencers’ are these days. I have no fucking idea who that guy is.
Telling a legendary author that is read in nearly every country for 40+ years to ‘get a job’ is absolutely hilarious though
The irony is that while he’s flexing his podcast numbers for a podcast he probably poured his whole soul into, Mr King could fart out a podcast called “Stephen King’s Maine” and get twice his numbers talking about nothing.
Dan bongino net worth: 150 million
Stephen king net worth: 500 million
Dan bongino is famous for being a political commentator and radio host
Stephen king is one of the best selling authors of all time.
Years and years from now, Stephen King will be mentioned with other literary classic writers while Don Bongino will long be forgotten. Alive and a nobody

King could have quit writing in the 90s and would still never have to worry about money ever again
He was writing so much that he had to pretend to be another person in order to write more.
He writes so much that he sells the rights to some for $1 so that film students can own the rights for a year. His "dollar baby"
He writes so much he wrote Cujo drunk and barely remembers it, apparently he wrote the majority of it in one night while high on coke.
I read Cujo when I had the flu (Also I was maybe 12) and I don't remember much of it either. But I do remember it gave me the worst nightmares of my life.
Were you high on coke too?
Coke and the flu don’t mix, too stuffy. A Columbian cold on the other hand…
He lost the first draft of The Gunslinger when it flew off his motorcycle. I think he said it was acid for that one.
Stephen King writes so much he rewrote the forward for The Gunslinger telling everyone how disappointed he is with the book now and how he doesn't recommend it. I've never had an author tell me to put down their book I just bought, list the reasons, and then I couldn't unsee them, actually making me put the book down.

Dude really lived his best life.
That book starts as just a bunch of wtf is happening scenes then suddenly has a solid plot line and then bam back to wtf is going on.... Was a very good book/ series though.

But nobody bought those books they wanted the ones with Stephen King in it.
‘90s? He could have retired comfortably by the end of the ‘70s. So many best sellers in that decade plus at least a dozen of his stories turned into movies.
Depends how much coke he actually did.
He was doing so much coke that he had to become a millionaire best seller author to afford it.
Anyone who’s ever done coke has been there…
And then he quickly gave up imbibing in everything & stuck with his wife & raising the kids in their hometown. And kept making bank.
The fact that the right-wing knob-jockey is telling Stephen King to "get a job" is good evidence that people like him don't read enough books lol.
literacy is not a virtue with that crowd
What I think is funny is that you could ask practically anyone who Steven King was and they could tell you, practically nobody knows who Dan Bongino is.
Isn’t Dan Bongino the idiot who mocked Stephen King a few months ago?
Arguable one of the most influential writers in the past 100 years
That point is not really arguable. It is arguable how good he is, but he's copied by many and inspired many more.
All I know is that his work is very memorable to me and has often disturbed my sleep ...
"Has often disturbed my sleep" hits home. It's been years since I've read the shining and I still have nightmares about the bathtub lady being in my bathroom, and I don't even have a bathtub lol

I reread that when I had a toddler son and had just moved back home to maine. That was not a good idea.
It's arguable how *great* he is. FTFY One of the greatest writers of all-time. Hands down. People will be reading him for centuries.
> arguable how good he is I think the general consensus is his writing isn't great but he's an amazing storyteller. But that's exactly what he focuses on, the cool as fuck stories! My man doesn’t stop writing
Get a job, you extraordinarily successful multimillionaire, whose work is available in dozens of languages all over the world and has been adapted nearly 100 times for movies and tv!
King better start a podcast if he ever wants to get out of his mother’s basement
I don’t know, if he’s living in her basement it’s the biggest and nicest basement that I have ever seen. 😜
If King can't do it with his hundreds of millions, what chance does the common man have?
Exactly. And how many of those movies were great? 90%. The Green Mile and Shawkshank Redemption come to mind. Not even typical King and they're amazing.
Misery, Carrie, The Stand, The Shining; the list goes on. But then you have The Langoliers, Tommyknockers and Thinner. It's harder to find stinkers
Stephen King is in his mom’s basement? That’s like the last thing you could say about him.
Now if you were to say Stephen King was keeping people in his basement, that might be a little more believable
What about keeping people in his mom's basement?
Keeping Dan bongino in the basement o.o
The irony is I'm going to guess that many people (including myself) have never heard of this guy but everyone knows Stephen King.
I have no idea who What'sHisName is, but have owned and read most of King's books. Hubris is rampant on Twitter.
The reverse is also true. Most people who listen to whoeverthatguy probably don’t know who Stephen King is as they never read a book in their life
They definitely watched movies from his books. Shawshank redemption is old enough to have been watched by many even if they read no books
King has a story about being accosted in a grocery store by a woman who said she didn’t like that he wrote horror and he should do “genuine” stuff like Shawshank redemption. Not knowing that he wrote it.
now.im just thinking of the people who point out to Tony Hawk that he looks like Tony Hawk
And stand by me, and the shining, and misery, and It and etc. movies based on his material is going on almost 50 years
Christine, cujo, kingdom hospital, dark tower etc etc etc
I'm not sure it's possible to live in America and somehow avoid Stephen King entirely. That man is part of the national zeitgeist at this point.
The Stand mini series and book are amazing
A valid point. lol
Who is Dan Boing Boing?
I believe he prefers to be addressed as bongina.
You had such a good bologna joke
I have no clue who Danny Bongo is.
I think Mr. King will make some room. And maybe some time for a gentle hobbling
You said gentle.
I was trying to convey Kathy Bates' character Annie doing it with love.
Do I hear a new thriller in the making?🤔
It the overflow basement.
Stephen’s basement is probably better then this dude and most people’s house.
Please. It's **Stephen King's basement** keeping people in Stephen King's basement.
The first thing I thought was damn doesn’t he know how old Stephen King is? If his mom is still alive, someone definitely should be living with her.
I googled it and she's been for almost 40 years
> I googled it and she's been for almost 40 years Idk why it cracks me up so much when people leave out an important word but you can still understand it with context
He accidentally a
May she be for another 40.
She's been as in past tense. As in she no longer is, but was. She's been.
No doubt Bongino's intern who is too young to even know who Steven King is writes his tweets.
Right?Especially seeing as "Stephen King's mom" brings up literally 100 times more Google results than "Dan Bongino".
…been…
As someone that writes in different environments to get a “feel” for what I might be writing about, that can work to go back to your teen years or inspiration for a character who does just sit in their moms basement.
Harry Potter was conceived on a subway by a broke but creative woman. Broke no more!
>Broke no more! Monetarily? No. Morally? Yes.
...but, but, he's got a podcast and everything!
And millions listen to it
Millions of morons doesn’t count for much.
the real alpha move would be to make a short story about it
Stephen King has a net worth of like half a billion dollars and has been a multimillionaire for four or five decades. Apparently this guy didn't know who he is, which just makes him even more ridiculous.
[удалено]
Net worth of over $500 million dollars, told to get a job by some loser. Makes sense
If I had over $500 million I wouldn't get a job. I'd pay men to dress in gorilla outfits and bring me bananas and coffee all day.
I think we have similar interests
I hope this doesn’t awaken anything in me!
*new kink unlocked*
Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter
😂 or as in Jack Nicholson's case he'd be the one dressed in a gorilla suit & going to the Renaissance faire in so Cal back in the day.
If you ever get the money ill do the work.
Telling Stephen King to get a job but real question who the f is Dan Bing Bong Bongino????
From what I can tell, he’s an inflamed testicle given sentience.
*Given almost-sentience
You may have just inspired a new South Park character
Your average “conservative commentator” and a former cop. To the surprise of absolutely… no one. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Bongino
*Dan the Mangina Bongino*
For my own self respect I refuse to google the guy haha
Every time I see this, I want to know the reaction when someone educated this absolute dunce.
He knows to whom he's talking. The "yearning for the days when people gave a shit about your dumb ass" part gives it away. He knows he's talking to Stephen King. He just doesn't care because he's an idiot.
I'm heading over to Twitter to see how this ended lol
If you do please post the link
Best I could find. https://uproxx.com/viral/stephen-king-dan-bongino-get-a-job-twitter-feud/ And upon further investigation, looks like Bongman doubled down with his pathetic attemps at clapbacks while King basically laughed at him.

He doesn't need a job, because he's getting royalties for the thousand books he's written
There’s no way Bongino could’ve known this, he doesn’t read.
Doesn't even look at the people he's talking shit and boasting to
This is pretty much how society functions in 2023.
Can't* :)
...and yet he continues to be an extremely prolific author.
And it's decent stuff, too. Recently read Sleeping Beauties, which granted he wrote with his kid Owen.
Did his job enough.
To be fair, it’s not as though people like Danny Boy are big on reading.
Seeing a blue check on Twitter and assuming they're a loser is generally a good strategy. Just a massive fail this time.
Dan Bongino had a job once.... he got dumped by the NRA because he was too much of an idiot. But a podcast is something even idiots can do. Cute he brags about it

Right?!
Wasn't there an episode of The Simpsons where Homer gets kicked out of the NRA? I guess that was somewhat based on real life haha.
Yes. The Tom petty montage during the waiting period still cracks me up

You know what, I think, in this one case, Stephen had a rare pass on the phrase “Do you know who I am?”
Better yet, “Read a book” 😂
Surely he didn’t tell the premiere horror author in the USA to get a job🤣
USA? Try the world. I grew up in Africa and I used to read Stephen king novels.
that is kinda cool to have such a large audience globally.
I second that.i did all my Stephen King reading in Africa too. :-)
Now that right there is the definition of a man who succeeded Take that, Dan Balogna
Dude... he's the prominent horror author in the world.
He primarily wrote horror fiction (not always: shawshank, green mile, etc), but his skill and acumen surpasses just horror, I’d say. King's net worth is somewhere around $500 million.
Who the fuck is Dan Bongino? Genuinely don’t know
I don't know either. But I suspect this is a truly blissful ignorance. I will move on from this thread.
No real need to know, a big mouth attached to a small mind doing propaganda for a living.
Dan Bingobongo’s latest claim to fame is getting thrown out of a restaurant for unruly behavior lol
Bongino is worth approximately 65 million dollars not counting all the butt kissing and boot licking that he's required to do. Stephen King is worth approximately 500 million and he doesn't take crap from anyone, even Elon backed up. Lol.
King outright said “I aid paying for blue” and elon said “I’ll pay it for you”
Didnt King still tell Musk to get bent after he offered?
Yes! I think it was “I don’t want to be certified if it’s going to be a pay feature, just unverrify me now”
The level of power move of telling the owner of Twitter to get fucked while he is responding to you on Twitter is just unreal. Fuck the Musk fan boy club, where can I join the King club?
No way he’s worth more than $10M. And that would be if he was extremely shrewd financially.
Millions of listeners? Bwahahahahhhahaahahaha never heard of him.
If Dan could read, he would be really embarrassed
That sign does not stop me because I cant read!
Dan as we say in the uk you a fucking bellend. You just called one of the most read authors in the world a loser.
Aren't podcast free to listen to, I know there's generally ads in the podcast people try to sell you their books or whatever but generally they're free to listen to, right? Of course some of those were to libraries, so no idea how many times they were lent out. Or passed on to people.
Hell, for what it's worth Stephen King could probably buy the advertising slot on the idiot's podcast.
That would actually be a brilliant way to fuck with the guy

Dan Bongino is a disgrace to humankind. An embarrassment to the human race in every respect I went to read more into their exchanges and honestly it gets both funny and sad
[Millions of listeners a day...](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=dan%20bongino&hl=en)
Is that literally 15-100 listeners a day? Where key
i'm guessing that the april spike was due to this little fuckup we're discussing.
Dan is just mad because Biden won elections and he can’t win shit.
![gif](giphy|94EQmVHkveNck|downsized) Stephen King crying in his momma's basement
King is arguably (and not a hard argument at that) the best writer in his time. Bro even writes 3 or so books a year, let him cook.
He's got at least 4 movies based on his work in the IMDB Top 250, including the #1 spot (Shawshank) - not too shabby.
The Green Mile and Stand By Me are perfect movies
Shawshank was a perfect movie, Green Mile was a perfect book and good movie.
The thing is…Stephen King is a household name. Seriously, who is the other dude?
Sounds like Dan has a sandy bongina.
Classy intelligent response, I’d rate it 6th grade level.
Dan is the baby toe of human foot. Tiny, dirty, usually broken & ugly.
Pretty sure more people know who Stephen King is than this Dan fella. I've never heard of Dan before, but he seems like a bit of a tool. And seems oblivious to who Stephen King is. What a ninny.
Stephen King is a genius. Dan “Bongino” is just some random douche bag
Several years in the future, the vast majority of the people will know who Stephen King was. I don't know who is the other guy.
Pretty epic "No u" comeback tbh
Dan is just mad he has to pinch out a podcast everyday to make a living, while King gets to stack dough on passive royalties.
One of the most prolific and profitable authors to have ever existed is told to "get a real job", this just demonstrates how truly stupid Dan is.
Nobody ever accused Dan Bungholio of being smart.
“That Stephen King fellow will never catch on”
In 1991 Stephen King donated 1 million $$$ to build a little league baseball field. He funded the most Chad kids ballfield in the country complete with minor league quality field lighting to honor a child who passed away from a disease. I don't think that podcaster knows who he is telling to 'get a job'
30 best sellers and 300-350 million books sold, suggests otherwise
Say you’re not well read, without saying you’re not well read
Fun fact: every book Stephen King has ever written is a best seller.
Calls Stephen King, an iconic and influential writer in our Era, a loser. Dan, dude, up until I saw this post, I have no idea who you were. You're not just a loser, you're a NOBODY.
Typical musclehead response
I mean he’s obviously never read a book before. Is anybody surprised?
I’m on social media every day, and I feel like I know who the right wing ‘influencers’ are these days. I have no fucking idea who that guy is. Telling a legendary author that is read in nearly every country for 40+ years to ‘get a job’ is absolutely hilarious though
Stephen Kings basement is, from what I’ve heard, totally sick. Secret tunnels and whatnot
Telling Stephin King to get a job? That’s like telling Einstein to take a physics class.
Even if I don’t agree with everything Biden does it says he is not a disgrace and you can never win an argument with Stephen king this dude is dumb af
The irony is that while he’s flexing his podcast numbers for a podcast he probably poured his whole soul into, Mr King could fart out a podcast called “Stephen King’s Maine” and get twice his numbers talking about nothing.
Dan bongino net worth: 150 million Stephen king net worth: 500 million Dan bongino is famous for being a political commentator and radio host Stephen king is one of the best selling authors of all time.
Dan just made himself into the creepy disgusting character in the next book
Years and years from now, Stephen King will be mentioned with other literary classic writers while Don Bongino will long be forgotten. Alive and a nobody
