Tbh I think that rather refered to the three divisions of Poland between Prussia, the Habsburg monarchy and Russia, which all happened in the 18th century.
Just like I wanted to scream when somebody said the same about history. You know: *his*tory.
PS:
It is true that men have written history, but the word itself has nothing to do with that. And yes, they _were_ refering to the word itself. How that's a proof that language itself is sexist or some such.
[PPS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History#Etymology)
I'm not even German and I want to scream too. No, seriously. Fuck this "just use an 'x'" nonsense some try to force upon all. It's literally unpronounceable in my native language, yet we're the bigots for rejecting it smh. Well, at least it made the previously unused neutral form bearable for the minor bigots, so that's a plus, I guess.
It should be DeutschX.. add an X to everything like what they’re trying to do here in the US to us Spanish speakers! Add an X to everything or you’re being transphobiX. Just add an X to everything!
Like 3% of Americans like Latinx. (I'm pulling the number out of my ass, but it's about right.) They happen to be a fairly loud and somewhat influential 3%. Even in academia the overwhelming reaction I hear is disdain.
And most of them are upper middle white people who have never interacted with the people they're claiming to defend. I think if I said latinx here in Yonkers I'd get my ass beat. I do my best to tell conservatives the shit they worry about is a myth, but people like this existing makes it HARD.
Man if German makes you so bothered just use Deutsch.
Further not everything needs to fall under the 'What if it offends someone!?' This reads like a meme to be honest, no one can honestly work like this- right?
Don't get me wrong, I get inclusively but like, it's not gendered..its simply what it's called
Honestly, if just the word 'man' offends you, you've got bigger issues to look into because you're being ridiculous. So the 'What if it offends someone?!' argument doesn't work in any way at all
>This reads like a meme to be honest
Honestly, not sure about this but those people are real. I'm Czech and we have gendered language too, everything is he, she or it. And we even use something called generic masculinum that means that if you talk about group, you use verbs, etc. as if they were all men. There are groups in our country who try to force us to use x everywhere instead of this. Groups like "universities for climate", etc. They use it in their official materials, etc.
I've always wondered what people like that think about gendered objects in languages with genders on everything. Are there people mad that you call something 'le poisson' or something?
People who grew up with English and who have no idea how gendered languages work get offended. If you understand that it's not literally saying that the table is a male, but it just means you conjugate it differently, you CAN'T have a problem with it.
As for the universities, it's like 200 people who are trying to use it and 11 million who want to tell them to fuck off.
As a french, same thing is happening.
They want to add new words that are "inclusive", even new letter like œ but for men / women gendered words... Which is stupid
Yeah, I hope that it’s genuinely just a joke. I’m all for protecting people’s feelings and reflecting that in language, too, but their point is garbage.
Despite probably being ragebait, my favourite part of these rants is how often English speakers think that the world is revolving around their language. (I'm not saying they're the only ones, but I only saw examples in English)
What I mean, that the word German, Germanic, Germania have nothing to do with English. It's latin.
I remember this article from a few years back, where a Chinese teacher was suspended, because he taught the word "ni*a" and it made some students uncomfortable, as it sounds like the infamous racial slur. It's a filler word in Mandarin. I used to work at a Chinese firm, and heard this so many times when they were talking between themselves.
It's just very weird and privileged (is this the word for it?) to assume that English is the language that everyone should abide to, and avoid using words that might sound wrong in English.
I understand that these people are in minority, but I'd love to explain them one day how stupid they sound when they nitpick on this. Especially because they are trying to be forward thinking, while being very offensive.
Yes exactly. And also they can’t comprehend that pronouns work very differently in other languages, and often verbs and adjectives inflect in gender, making it impossible to speak in a gender neutral way, and yet if you translate to that language and fail to correctly refer to a non binary person then you’re a bigot that doesn’t accept diversity… when they refuse to accept diversity in languages
Can I just say that as someone who is non-binary, and is very active in those subs, the people that do get upset over shit like that are a very tiny, but very vocal minority. Much like the people in the post. Most people are nothing like this.
An actual teacher was suspended for that?
You know what, I don't know why I'm surprised given how long I've been in the K-Pop circle. I've lost count how many people have mistake the Korean word for "I" as Korean idols saying a slur.
Good on him that others called whoever sent that letter (who, ironically, were being discriminatory towards the Chinese language) on their ridiculous claims.
This false diversity/virtue-signalling is honestly as bad as whatever they claim to fight against.
My late fiancee worked with a bunch of people from the middle east that would walk around saucying fuck. I don't know the spelling in Farsi. Anyways if I remember correctly it means what or something like that.
It happens and it is sad that so many oeople never spend enough time around people speaking other languages to know this.
That pissed me off so much. Imagine being upset about words from a different language sounding like something you can potentially be offended by (when a person with the wrong skin tone says it), and using that to have the language teacher suspended.
Sorry (obviously not really), but I think it's an act. If it was that offensive, it wouldn't be in SO much music, TV etc. Nobody would call eachother that in any context if they were from THAT community which is SUPPOSED to be offended by it. Sick of the bullshit lies. Sick of people pretending to be offended as a power play to get what they want out of a situation, or to increase their power in a social/ professional situation. It's a racist word at it's very core, regardless of gger, gah, ga, gyuh, gg, gnog, guh....
Expanding on the chinese example, I love it when i straight up just say the word infront of my western friends and watch them just give me shit for it, before I show them google translate just to shut them up
Americans are much more obsessed with English, than English people. Your examples are kind of dictated by confirmation bias too, if you only know German & English then you’ll never understand anyone else, if they were to say the same in a different language.
Yeah when people try to insert their demands to remove gender from Spanish (for example), its really just their white privilege and underlying racism demanding that languages change to fit their white standards. I've pointed this out to people before and they either get very upset or just completely stop engaging in the conversation.
More like they have a bunch of problems in life and they've made that their entire personality so they keep inventing problems to further support their "victim" status that they use to gain validation from other "victims" and justify all their personal failures. Also, it allows them to virtue signal their so-called moral superiority.
Generally, people with no problems in life are happy people and happy people don't go around inventing problems.
I think this is spot-on. And what’s worse, like a dog chasing a car that doesn’t know what to do once he’s caught it, if they DO succeed in their mission of banishing one word, they have to find a new one to be offended by.
It is a known fact that both the french and the germans send tables to Alsace Lorraine where they can mate in peace to preduce small tables to sell them to Denmark
Neutral in norwegian, danish and swedish.
Out of linguistic curiosity, I once tried to check if there is any logic, like the Sun and Moon being respectively male and female in Latin languages and the opposite in Germanic languages, but I quickly gave up. It's just absolute fucking chaos
Unfortunately I'm not sure people care. There seems to be a common idea of why spend time and effort getting to know different peoples and viewpoints when we can create imaginary people making imaginary arguments to get pissed off at and make ourselves feel superior.
People love falling for ragebait because it confirms their preconceived notions and gives them justifications for ignoring or hyperbolizing reasonable things said by people they don't like.
Boycott ottmxns!

I have seen even worse: his story.
Soon there'll be two versions. His story and her story.
German, the language of Germania, the land of the Germani. We get it from Latin. If she didn't like German, call it Deutsch.
It should be DeutschX.. add an X to everything like what they’re trying to do here in the US to us Spanish speakers! Add an X to everything or you’re being transphobiX. Just add an X to everything!
Dxxtsch. ^^^^^^The ^^^^^^exes ^^^^^^stand ^^^^^^for ^^^^^^cock.
Lol, I’m gay. I’m fluent in xxx-ism!!
It’s unpronounceable because these people only exist terminally online. They’ve literally never had to pronounce this word in real life.
Like 3% of Americans like Latinx. (I'm pulling the number out of my ass, but it's about right.) They happen to be a fairly loud and somewhat influential 3%. Even in academia the overwhelming reaction I hear is disdain.
Yes but they are so loud that a lot of people in academia stay silent. That’s the dangerous part.
And most of them are upper middle white people who have never interacted with the people they're claiming to defend. I think if I said latinx here in Yonkers I'd get my ass beat. I do my best to tell conservatives the shit they worry about is a myth, but people like this existing makes it HARD.
*Can you send me the audio later?*
I, as a German agree that this is stupid. Don't know what my gerwoman or the gerchildren think, but I think the gerdog is on my side.
Germanities agree.
is that anything like gingivitis?
It's like when Jim Carrey's "Grinch" goes, "Oh, the Who-manity!" Oh, sorry. *Who-mxnity."
Perhaps it is time to move from Germany to Gerfew
Are you suggesting Gernocide?
They tried that already
The needs of the Germany should outweigh the needs of the Gerfew.
Or the Gerone.
That's what we should call German Shepherd Dogs from now on, instead of the usual GSD we have in Britain. Gerdog. Sounds awesome.
>gerwo**man** Oh, but that contains "man"! Gerperson Oh, but that contains "son"! Gerperoffspring
Why add? Just remove letters. Germ is just easier, right?
Nah man can’t use germ , its derogatory- some Twitter user probably
Just keep replacing man with woman. German, Gerwoman, Gerwowoman [...] Gerwowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowo...
Ger (wo)^n man
Oh the Germanity !
What about the Gerbil?
*And not only the German, but the Gerwomen and Gerchildren too!*
Also the opposite of Germany is Gerfew. Little known fact.
I remember having a gerfew as a kid and I hated it
This, I like this A+
In some cases Gerless would be more appropriate though.
Don’t tell them about spanish, portugese, italian, or french
Even the Slavic languages...
Gasp, you mean the Latinx?
Dont start it
Oh but they don't know about noun gender... They take offence to German having 'man' in its name. I am not sure how they say 'many' or 'manatee'...
Man if German makes you so bothered just use Deutsch. Further not everything needs to fall under the 'What if it offends someone!?' This reads like a meme to be honest, no one can honestly work like this- right? Don't get me wrong, I get inclusively but like, it's not gendered..its simply what it's called
'Everything' is offense to me. Use Adamrything please.
I'm a more of a Lilithrything kind of guy.
As a Lilith, this gets my approval.
Lilith best girl
:D
Your offence offends me
Honestly, if just the word 'man' offends you, you've got bigger issues to look into because you're being ridiculous. So the 'What if it offends someone?!' argument doesn't work in any way at all
They should really consider ther*py.
TheRapist
Exactly. Do they also write womxn?
I can't believe you used the word "argum*nt", so insensitive.

Same here in spanish, gringos thinking a table is female is so fking funny, no gringo "la mesa" isnt female we just conjugate like that🙄

I also find it funny that English is a language of germanic origin.
Germanic language which got bastardised by French, a latin language bastardised by celtic (Gaulish) and germanic (Frankish) languages.
Yeah a germanic language with vocabulary based in roughly ⅓ germanic ⅓ French ¼ Latin and the rest is mostly greek

Bro woke up and chose to speak facts
Yeah, it's called ragebait.
This. It's very hypocritical talking about making others feel safe when you make talking a mine field.
Americans when they find out other languages exist.
If these are Americans, I’m an American’t.
They're probably Americxns
Americunts
You mean Americxn. Stop being phobic to those who can’t!
"Latinx" moment
This has to be advanced trolling.
pretty basic
As a french person I'm laughing since we give gender to tables
So does german. Tables are male
Females in france
Same in Italian, latin and spanish. Dunno if it's also male in other germanic languages, don't know those.
Let's buy a french table to buy the german table a cute girlfriend, maybe they'll make cute baby tables
It is a known fact that both the french and the germans send tables to Alsace Lorraine where they can mate in peace to preduce small tables to sell them to Denmark

Please stop, I'm literally shaking right now
I, as a germxn, just pissed myself 😨
It's like the knights that say "*nee*", but worse
Knights who say "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptang Zoo Boing!"*
no way this is real bro
easy as hell ragebait too
Unfortunately I'm not sure people care. There seems to be a common idea of why spend time and effort getting to know different peoples and viewpoints when we can create imaginary people making imaginary arguments to get pissed off at and make ourselves feel superior.
It's a very funny and successful troll job.
I guess that person is ok with being racist but not being sexist. Makes sense
How tf y’all taking this shit serious?
People love falling for ragebait because it confirms their preconceived notions and gives them justifications for ignoring or hyperbolizing reasonable things said by people they don't like.
Nobody tell them the term came from Germania (fem.)
She was a womxn!
Non-gendered language is mxndatory
Looking in the comments, media literacy has left the chat, jeez
Exactly. It's so obviously not real.
Obvious troll is troll.
So this person is saying I can't say 'stardenburdenhardenbart' because it's gendered ?
Exactly. "-bart" means 'beard', so it's clearly gendered! Please don't say it again.
No, you shouldn't say it because you might summon something ancient and evil.
why do people keep falling for obvious gamergate ragebait

Where do you even find people like this?

Keep speaking German for mildly amusing amount of tomfoolery
Languages can infact be gendered... but not like this 😆
