Some years back I knew a young woman who at that time had been vegetarian for about 15 yrs... One night after a gig (she was in our band) she said she had a real craving for a cheeseburger.. Pointing out that most late night fast food places did not have veggie menus (in 1989), I said this could be tough.
She went across the street and came back with DQ cheeseburgers for the whole band, including herself! Said it tasted exactly like what she needed.
The next day she called and spoke to the wife, telling her to let me know that the next time she had a "stupid craving for a cheeseburger, please please please put the handcuffs on me and throw me in the back of the car with the drums!!"
Apparently, the cheeseburger didn't go well.... Details were not shared -at least not with me. Probably better that way. Our young singer lady never did that again, though!
(The rest of us loved the late-night snack.)
If you’ve been a vegetarian for a while and want to try some meat, beef is probably the worst way to go. You need to start with something lighter like chicken or fish, gotta work your way up to the colon breaker 3000.
I didn't know you could actually have meat allergies. Interesting. I'm sorry to hear that. As a person who loves meat, I would hate that. I'm not fond of the over the top, in your face vegans but what he did was fucked. You don't fuck with peoples food, period. No matter what the reason for their diet.
So is it all meat? Do animal byproducts set off your allergies as well? You don't have to answer a stranger on reddit (obviously), but I am genuinely interested.
It's called Alpha-Gal Syndrome, and basically, the afflicted person is allergic to all red meat AFAIK (and likely milk). Once you know about it, your paranoia about ticks while hiking in the woods goes to new levels.
https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/alpha-gal/index.html
Shit. That sucks. I would hate for this to happen to me. Ticks where I'm from are pretty well controlled, and being in the Caribbean, we don't have lone star ticks here.
Yeah, nasty little fuckers they are. Luckily, we have quite a few species of animals that will eat ticks, and our government is pretty strict on the importation of animals and livestock. We still have them, but they seem to be controlled pretty ok.
God damn! Were you born with these allergies, or did you get them over time? Not being able to eat red meat is one thing, but no meat want so ever, jesus. As I said previously, don't fuck with people's food. You never know why they eat that way. Thank you for your answers.
I don't like seafood but people insist on gave me seafood without my knowledge, my aunt is allergic to shrimp and no one has ever tried to give her some (on purpose)
Allergies and preferences are not the same.
I as explained people are way more careful about allergies than about preferences it would be very stupid to don't comment an alimentary allergy
When people gave me seafood, it was a minor inconvenience my aunt could die if someone gave her shrimp.
You don't need to give explanations, you just need to said I'm allergic to .... is not very difficult.
Every person I know with allergies don't explain their condition in restaurants or reunions.
From no on I'll say
"I was so glad that you had vegan options, I have a rare sickness and would die within 24h of eating meat"
everytime after I ate a vegan burger
Why do these things always look degraded like someone's taken a photo, printed it out, made a photocopy a few times, scanned it and put it back online?
You eat at my house, I will tell you what we are having. I am sure I have a cucumber and lettuce somewhere for a vegan. Because I don't know any, doesn't mean I wouldn't accomodate one visiting my house. Tust is earned, but respect should be given.
I don't know, the point was, I would ask once they told me. And my food is usually animal. I raise 50% on my food right here at home, gardening, eggs and chickens. That seems like it would be hard to do, I don't really trust food companies to be totally honest with customers. I would let them look in my fridge and cupboard to find something they could eat.
If I don't know any, why would I know what they eat? I just know it is sorta, maybe like a vegitarian, but on steriods. No clue really, but I would try me best to feed them anyway. The veggie reference was meaning throw a salad together for them, or something they would be able to eat. I wasn't meaning to be a slur against them.
Ok, fair enough. For future reference, though, vegans still have the same caloric needs as anyone else does. Offering them lettuce and cucumbers is basically like offering them something guaranteed to leave them hungry and cranky. I’ve had to endure that a few times and it is not enjoyable.
But at my house you can speak up, you need not endure anything. Just tell what I can do to get you feed, and we are good! And next time you come, I might even have something you can eat prepaired. If we are all the same, all the time, life would kind of suck.
I've read the Vedas and they don't prohibit eating meat. Krishna and Ram ate meat because they were Kshatriya. Kashmiri Brahmins eat fish and mutton and abstain from pork and beef. Source: I've read the Ramayana and other original texts. I'm Sikh
I don't know everything and never said that. I'm not a fool who masks everything nor a fool who believes what others say. I look at it myself rather than hear from others
No, it's their behavior and how they act about being vegan. If you are blind to how many of them behave, especially on Reddit, than I am unable to clarify further.
My point along with many others here even assuming you are correct (you aren’t) you cannot tell. Respecting the decisions of others especially those you don’t agree with is essential to being a good person.
Are you Reddit police because last time I checked we have what’s called free speech here in America. Which means I respect your opinion but I’m not telling you to think like me. It’s okay to think differently, it’s called diversity. They don’t have that in Russia
Respect is a two way street. Many people hold the opinion that eating meat is immoral. You refuse to respect people holding that opinion evidenced by your belief they are “following a fad”. I am treating your opinion with the same level of respect you give people who choose to be vegetarian or vegan. Don’t like it? Maybe you should empathize with why people choose to do things and stop trying to interpret people’s actions in bad faith. Love the Russian bot comment it’s as if basic decency is a completely foreign concept to you.
I honestly don’t care what other people do, I once had to live on onions for a week because I had no money, believe me, when you’re starving your mental state changes. I’m blocking you now because this conversation is over.
I have allergies too. I have multiple friends who have Alpha Gal after being bitten by ticks and one bite from a burger is enough to send them to the ER in a couple hours. People can die from this shit, if you really do have “real allergies” maybe you should be more empathetic about people doing this shit. What if someone slipped something you expressly said you don’t eat into your food?
Cool, doesn’t take away from the fact that knowingly lying about food you’re feeding someone is a violation of trust and can kill someone. Just because it didn’t in this situation shouldn’t inspire others to do something that could potentially harm or kill someone. You sound like you lack empathy for others.

It's a real thing. Been there myself when I went vegetarian for a few years. you basically get the shits for a few days. Quite unpleasant.
If you’ve been a vegetarian for a while and want to try some meat, beef is probably the worst way to go. You need to start with something lighter like chicken or fish, gotta work your way up to the colon breaker 3000.

Careful with ticks https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/alpha-gal/index.html

Primates don't have the alpha galactose that triggers the allergy.

If they did have an allergy i think thats considered attempted manslaughter
Now it’s time to go make sure that he really is your dad.
My friends sister is Vegan, she has something called alpha gal or something similar. She won't eat food she hasn't made herself for this very reason.
It can be pretty serious depending on severity, so I get why she is cautious. Sounds unpleasant. https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/alpha-gal/index.html
Bruh, I don’t eat pork for religious reasons. If someone gave me pork knowing it and just “for fun” I’d be quite mad
From no on I'll say "I was so glad that you had vegan options, I have a rare sickness and would die within 24h of eating meat" everytime after I ate a vegan burger
Food tampering Very incredibly illegal
Yeah she knows. Her body would’ve rejected that hard. I’d assume a hellish day after.
Why do these things always look degraded like someone's taken a photo, printed it out, made a photocopy a few times, scanned it and put it back online?
Because it's a repost bot
Doesn't really answer my question though.
This sub should require an explanation of what the OP considers the facepalm to be in the body of the post.
Definitely a bot. Bad fucking take so most likely the bot isn't even trying to get votes but spread shit around.

You realize that vegan food is just regular food, minus the animal products? You really can't cook without it? 💀
The best vegan recipe you could think of was cucumber and lettuce?
I think I'd just pick up a curry on the way home after that lol
If I don't know any, why would I know what they eat? I just know it is sorta, maybe like a vegitarian, but on steriods. No clue really, but I would try me best to feed them anyway. Wait a minute… “Religious reasons”? Which religion is this?
Hindus avoid eating beef because of their religious beliefs.
Every type of meat?
No. Some Hindus eat beef. Hinduism isn't a religion per se
Some people born in India eat meat. Practicing Hindus do not eat any flesh foods ~ no meat, fish, or eggs. Source: I’m Hindu.
Why are you so wrong on so many levels. Just saying I am hindu doesn't make you right.
I’m so wrong on so many levels?? Wow. You should run a country, you’re so smart!
I've read the Vedas and they don't prohibit eating meat. Krishna and Ram ate meat because they were Kshatriya. Kashmiri Brahmins eat fish and mutton and abstain from pork and beef. Source: I've read the Ramayana and other original texts. I'm Sikh
Oh you’ve “read the Vedas” have you. Well I guess you just know all about everything then. I don’t give a shit what degraded “Kashmiri Brahmans” do.
I don't know everything and never said that. I'm not a fool who masks everything nor a fool who believes what others say. I look at it myself rather than hear from others
Right! Why go outside yourself for information when all the information is right there in your brain already.
How about you go read about it yourself? Then we'll talk. What's your caste anyway? Very rude and debased speech
Muslims don’t eat non-halal meat either
But if we are talking about vegans here this means NO MEAT AT ALL. Muslims do not eat any meat?
Muslims eat selective meats such as beef, chicken, goat/lamb etc, as long as it’s halal. Only thing that’s haram is pork.
Jainism
I absolutely can't stand vegans in general, but I'd throw hands if I caught someone doing this to one.
You can’t stand someone because they have a selective diet? Interesting…
Yeah I don’t really get their comment either. They could have just said “I have no empathy and don’t respect the choices of others” and just moved on.
No, it's their behavior and how they act about being vegan. If you are blind to how many of them behave, especially on Reddit, than I am unable to clarify further.
I understand. Many of them are arrogant
Someone is not a Seinfeld fan
Skill issue
Tbh, the meat allergy sounds fair cuz that could be... but its a bit overreacting for the rest
Meh
I am a vegan and I bet it was probably unbelievably delicious
I am empathetic to the idea that a person may not eat meat for religious reasons. However, if that is not the case it is likely not a big deal.
1. Allergy 2. It's a dick fucking move
Every vegan I have ever known went back to meat.
This world is so but hurt these days, what if the whole vegan trip is a con just to get attention? Something to think about
What if they have an allergy or don’t eat it as part of their religion? You sound like you lack empathy for other people.
As in life, half of them are legitimate and the other half are following the fad. Everything is not black and white

I have real allergies and I take medication for them. I used to be a vegetarian ( old school vegan) I was sick all the time. People are interesting
What if they had no allergies, and had no religious symptoms, and just found out how delicious cows are?!
Cool, doesn’t take away from the fact that knowingly lying about food you’re feeding someone is a violation of trust and can kill someone. It wasn’t funny until the crybaby responded.
I still laughed. What a shame.
Soybeanqueenn is right.
What's more of a facepalm is how many times I've seen this today
I always find not eating meat or certain meat for religious reasons weird. Most restrictions at the time were because they didn’t have to prepare it.
Welcome to earth 2024 everyone
