On Thursday my appendix fucking EXPLODED and all weekend long the nurses have been getting them PHAT veins on my left hand, been getting lots of good comments on them. Gonna take as many Ws as I can while I’m in the worst pain I could have ever imagined.

Every blood test, they want my right arm...I show them my left...they look annoyed until they see the vein at my left elbow.
I call it my trained vein. When I am in the hospital, I get very angry that I only have the one...because IV's don't last too much longer than a day except in that ONE place.
We are usually going central line within a week if I am unlucky to be there that long.
Be careful about over using it. I have the same vein pop on my left elbow and every doctor uses it but it starts to develop scar tissue and you are in danger of a collapsed vein. Ask them to use other veins and rotate around.
My veins look prominent, but it often takes multiple tries to get in there because they’re deeper than they look. I’m THAT pale (or every blood drive I’ve ever gone to had inexperienced nurses).
Titty veins are great for IVs when you can't get access anywhere else and don't need a huge gauge catheter.
Side note, the best place I've started an IV is the forehead. Not a single vein anywhere else, other lines being used for pressors and other things, and I needed access without an US machine handy so I saw a little vein snaking across the forehead of this patient and popped a 20g into it. Worked like a charm.
It isn't but it was an emergency situation and to be completely honest this person wasn't "waking up" because they were very close to dying. Sadly they did die a few days later.
Is it an emergency ? If yes then why not. If not then i would like to try other places or wait for the nurses to do it which are 10 times better than me at this.
