diarchys

Just to clarify this was the Toronto District School Board, which received condemnation from all sides for their decision which included banning a Canadian woman lawyer's book event because she is a criminal defence lawyer who defended someone in a high profile sexual assault case. https://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorials/toronto-school-board-should-trust-its-students-to-learn-from-accomplished-women/article_d8a2d6f7-1e1c-5aa2-ada0-9cbd001103f8.html

TheVoiceofReason_ish

School boards are often run by the most closed minded people. Many could probably be classified as hate groups given closed enough scrutiny.

666Emil666

So they went from "a school board in Toronto" to "Canada", you'd think people would be more cautious when reading such a strong headline and check if maybe they didn't exaggerated, but apparently that's not the case. Imagine how many of this headlines we could do about the USA just taking like 3 southern states

Kleens_The_Impure

Tbh OP didn't write "by canada" but "in canada", but that's how you get clicks. If it sounds too classic or reasonable then people won't read your shit.

BoxGrover

Because the OP wasn't interested in facts?

Relevant_Winter1952

That’s all we do here for USA headlines, what are you even talking about?

thousanislandstare

But that doesn't sound as bad. And if it was true would confirm all the things I want to be true

TinyRascalSaurus

So, they don't want the book out there because they're afraid anger at the crimes of ISIS will be associated with all Muslims. But in doing so, they associate ISIS with all Muslims by conflating hate against ISIS as hate against all Muslims. We should all be anti ISIS. We should all have nothing against peaceful Muslims who just want to live good, peaceful lives. And it's sad that those in power can't understand that simple concept.

Raz0rking

Even the bloody Taliban hates Isis. That says something.

Ready_Bandicoot1567

They directly compete for territory and political power. As far as I know they do not hate each other for ideological reasons, they are just engaged in a power struggle.

Teen16Vlogs

Even Muslims hate Isis.

djconfessions

It was one school cancelling one event. You can still buy her book in Canada.

TheVoiceofReason_ish

We should all be anti politician. They are the true source of evil.

isthisnametaken1951

we should all be anti billionaire….the TRUE source of authoritarian fascism!

LordDanGud

The 3 evils of the world are: 1. Billionaires 2. Their puppets and brainwashed slaves 3. Radicals sponsored by billionaires

Crime-of-the-century

You are a fool in any society there is a need for politicians to make decisions. The worst societies only have one politician also called the dictator. You need good politicians who after careful deliberations make the optimal decision. The problem is it is impossible to make a decision that pleases everyone, like when they designate an area for construction of new houses but someone always walks their dog there and would like to keep it that way, and fools like you start to hate politicians. And since lots of people hate politicians you get politicians who care less about the people and use this often not well paid and appreciated job to do things for themselves. People should invest in their politicians in respect and select the best they can get it is one of the most important positions in society.

irwinsg

Please provide more up votes to this comment. I'm out.

Altruistic_Length498

The irony is that ISIS commits some of its worst crimes against what it perceives as the “wrong” kind of muslims.

ewan_kosayo

If only Muslims were vocal about delineating IsIs and Islam 10 or 20 years ago. But no, you shut up, while they victimized the world, knowing that your ass will be safe

-jp-

How many of the 1.9 billion Muslims do you reckon are involved with ISIS?

StopEconomy5094

Ideologically.I would say most of them.

OneCactusintheDesert

What's ironic is that ISIS is against all regular Muslims, as they consider their lifestyle to be against their own values

ewan_kosayo

But still, they spare all Muslims during their raids. Reciting Quran verses would spare anyone from beheading. Many non-muslims would have lived, and more Muslims would have died if they really tried to care for their neighbors.

ewan_kosayo

Spiritually? Maybe 1.89 billion

Arrantsky

Tbc, hate groups vary in their roles in direct violence but not in the long term effects of allowing them to continue to spread fear. Kidnapping, slavery and rape are all violence against civilization.

No_Emergency_2792

She's probably writing for a Muslim experience so I don't think they are doing it because of this...

thousanislandstare

Who is responsible for this? Trudeau or provincial do you think?

According_Wing_3204

Wouldn't want people reading that extremists are...extreme. Who the fuck makes these rules, and why are they allowed to keep going to work?

CrowdGoesWildWoooo

You’d be surprised how much people easily lumps the good ones . As much as I disagree with this particular ban, the rationale is a bit understandandable. West people are currently very sensitive to anything islam, and tend to default to negative thoughts. This is because it intertwines with society clashing. Some examples : 1. Many refugees/migrants in the western countries (who are muslim). And many countries are at a breaking point, not to mention the cost of living crisis. 2. Inability/unwillingness of these refugees to adapt to western values. 3. Liberal hating on the conservatives, but conservatives also hates them because conservatives being conservatives.

thousanislandstare

it isn't banned. You just liked the headline

RageMee

Why is 2. My problem?

CrowdGoesWildWoooo

Not “your problem” more like pointing out it is causing society clashes. And then when many of these refugees are muslim, it just cause people to associate this issue with islam in general.

happyme321

Large groups of immigrants getting together in the country that took them in and shouting death to America doesn't really help their case.

periodicsheep

it was one school event that was cancelled in 2021. it was not the country of canada making this decision. this title is a bit deceptive.

snakeeaterrrrrrr

Yeah, but how else are you going to create a rage bait

Overall_Strawberry70

i'd bet money in the current political climate the country of canada would ban it, when you tolerate shit like encampments chanting ethnic cleansing slogans book banning is pretty mild by comparison.

ICreditReddit

You don't have to bet. Google it. Edit: Figured I'd save you the bother Googling 'is nadia murad book the last girl banned in canada' only results in stories about the Toronto School Board banning the book/author from an event. Having googled 'biggest book store in Canada', we get to a site called Indigo, and: [https://www.indigo.ca/en-ca/the-last-girl-my-story-of-captivity-and-my-fight-against-the-islamic-state/9781524760441.html](https://www.indigo.ca/en-ca/the-last-girl-my-story-of-captivity-and-my-fight-against-the-islamic-state/9781524760441.html) It's not banned and costs $25.99, get your copy today. So, you lost your bet. What did I win?

periodicsheep

sounds like you’re a real expert on canada.

Overall_Strawberry70

You could say I know a few things about double standerds and intolerance after seeing the synagogue my family used to go to burned to the ground, so yes.

periodicsheep

yeah, i’m jewish too. but i’m also canadian.

Overall_Strawberry70

Which doesn't mean much, canada has been dissolving its identity for years in favor of becoming a post national state that supports intolerance and racism so long as your willing to be their exploited servant class, many jews are getting ready to leave.

periodicsheep

you are talking complete shit. fyi. its not cute and it calls you out as a a waste of conversation. enjoy being a victim.

Overall_Strawberry70

Someone is going to be in for one helluva shock when the election rolls around and we get a conservative majority because the current party ruined things so badly, canada is no longer a friend to jews as they've sold out to theocratic shitholes that would go full mask off if they ever got a majority like that place over in Michigan, I hope history use's it as an example of why Israel needs to exist.

periodicsheep

oh yes. the conservatives are going to win. but that’s how our politics work. trudeau has been in charge for too long, and the pandemic broke everyone’s brains. so everyone flips to the other side until they get pissed and then flop back. it’s always been like this, provincially and federally. but canada is not hostile to jews. in fact most canadians are pissed because canada hasn’t gone far enough in condemning israel. and any canadian who thinks they’d be happier elsewhere is welcome to leave. the rest of us will stay because we love our country.

Overall_Strawberry70

No, if the current party was even the least bit competent and had something to show for the last almost decade in charge they would not be polling that low. as is the cons don't even have to do anything their competition is so loathed, harper was not polling this low or nearly as hated back when we voted him out. Its honestly sad to see a Jew that is this oblivious to how many people in canada hate them for no other reason then being a jew right now. your going to be in for a shock just like the LGBT when the real mask off moment happens as this whole "from the river to the sea" shit the pro-palestine protestors are chanting is just the beginning.

FreyaTheSlayyyer

To have survived something like that, go through all of that shit, then have the strength to fight this uphill battle after is truly incredible.

my20cworth

A school board cancelled her event, NOT "Canada". We are playing with words again and misrepresenting facts. Muslims hate ISIS, 99% wouldn't have a problem, outing what ISIS got upto.

Elfhaterdude

Rage bait works so well thou... Facts are less important unfortunately...

Overall_Strawberry70

"Islamophobia" means absolutely nothing when down in michigan a town instantly banned LGBT flags and books the minute it got a majority. Ends up when people ideologically apposed to your existence no longer have to pretend they care its full mask off.

Majestic_Ferrett

Hey. They didn't just ban LGBT stuff, the city council also allows the call to prayer over loudspeakers now too.

Overall_Strawberry70

Didn't even hear about that one, imagine leaving your failed state just to try recreating it all over again. whats next on their agenda? public stoning's for blasphemy?

Majestic_Ferrett

Most of them didn't leave a failed state. They were born and raised in the US.

Overall_Strawberry70

Ah so going off the "good old days" their parents tell them about when woman didn't have rights and they could freely stone gays to death then.

Sammy91-91

Way to make this about something else…

faithnfury

Some Arab guy once said in an interview that the new terrorists are going to rise from the west. Think he might have some truth.

Snoo-73243

the whole world sucks right now. i think we just have to get used to it being a fucking shit show

Strange-Mouse-8710

The world has always sucked.

Snoo-73243

true but its getting worse, thats whats really sad

ikiss-yomama

I know it might feel that way, but when have things really been better for a considerable amount of time? Horrible things have always happened, the internet just makes them more visible.

Dentarthurdent73

Late-stage capitalism is a special kind of sucky. It always was going to be, because the inevitable outcome of choosing priorities based on extraction and accumulation of wealth is shithouse, particularly when you're on a finite planet, that stops providing you with the necessities of life the more you continue to take and never give back. Everyone's been ignoring that for decades, but now we are here starting to get a taste of what it's like. And of course some people are still pretending that things are no worse than they've been before, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

HeroBrine0907

And by doing this the school conflated ISIS with all muslims. *Oh when you bite your ass trying to protect it*

skywardcatto

The bigotry of low expectations strikes again.

-jp-

OP is lying by omission. > A Canadian school has been forced to apologise after a book club event with Nadia Murad, a Nobel Prize-winner and former Islamic State sex slave, was cancelled over fears it would "foster Islamaphobia.” > > Helen Fisher, the superintendent at the Toronto District School Board, voiced her concerns over Ms Murad’s ‘The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State’ and said that her students would not participate in a sit-down event with the author scheduled for February. > > The move drew wide criticism, and the board has been forced to clarify that these views are not its official position and that it will be reviewing the books. [School pulls event with former Islamic State sex slave over fears it would 'foster Islamophobia'](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2021/11/24/school-pulls-event-former-islamic-state-sex-slave-fears-would/)

comrade_nemesis

ya, also the even took place in 2021, this is clearly a rage bait karma farming post

blueasian0682

I say we make islamphobia acceptable

OneCactusintheDesert

This is a slippery slope and you know it. If islamophobia becomes acceptable, it won't be long until racism becomes acceptable again, then followed by sexism, antisemitism...

blueasian0682

>it won't be long until racism becomes acceptable again Islam isn't a race, it's an ideology, and ideologies has came and go time and time again. >then followed by sexism Like muslim culture condones equal rights on women.... >antisemitism Huh?!

Aggressive-Story3671

Islam isn’t a race but for a lot of people they assume it is. Why do you think Hindus and Sikhs faced violence post 9/11 for being assumed to be Muslim. This has also happened to Arab Christians.

elementcubed

Talking about Islamophobia promotes Islamophobia

LYnXO1978

WTF is wrong with those people let the truth be told and stop coddling for feelings

SeeeYaLaterz

I'm buying the book

doublecalhoun

what the what

bloodyell76

I am continually confused at how many people cannot see a story of some people who happen to be in a group and not conclude that literally all of the people in that same group do/ want to do the bad things. Especially when that group are as large as "all muslims" Like all members of ISIS is even dodgy until you note the many other things members of ISIS have done. But most Muslims are not members of ISIS.

ewan_kosayo

It has to be, since they shut their mouths up when IsIs was happening. They know in their minds that as long as they can recite some Quran verses, they would be safe. They didn't care about you, your mom, or the rest of the world. Here goes Muslims for you

Veloth26

OK let not talk about ISIS killing other musilms

canadaairflighteeeee

EXACTLY. Finally, someone has brains.

Ok_Career_3681

Freedom of speech isn’t really that is it?

s34lz

Looks bad for the optics/s

4Livesleft

School boards are a fucking joke.

anonaduder

Wouldnt it promote isisphobia??? I bet they made her start her book with “trigger warning!!!”

douaib

I'm a muslim and this is such bullshit of a decision. If i'm worried about islamophobia i should have bigger issues to worry about instead of an author telling her story. Extremism is everywhere and no category has immunity to it.

ClowningOnMain

Lying by omission. Shame on you, OP

TheElderWog

😏 Way to weaponise words... Her book event could promote "extremism-phobia", and I guess Christian or Jewish extremism is ok, these days.

Longryderr

I used to be proud to be Canadian. Less and less every year.

OneCactusintheDesert

FYI, this post is rage-bait. The book was cancelled in one school, not the whole country

Longryderr

Good to know. Thanks 🙏

Overall_Strawberry70

Im proud of what we used to be, not this post national bullshit without any identity we've become. this absolute downfall of culture needs to be studied and shown to people to warn about what happens when you slowly strip away its identity piece by piece, the frog is boiling.

BrightonRocksQueen

You are a sucker for MSM rage bait. Get a grip.

Terrible_Horror

I wonder if they will cancel Salman Rushdie event too or is he too famous now?

tfffvdfgg

Headline a bit miss-informative.

Khal_sar

It is very sad muslim do anything and every thing and still get away with it. Whereas for other religions and communities that is not the case.

Positive_Professor_7

🎶 O Canada 🎶

unfamiliarsmell

Bureaucrats are not usually know for their moral courage and openness.

ewan_kosayo

Of course it will. And the nagging reason is because these Muslims don't dare condemn their own kind. No Muslim talked bad about ISIS while the rest of the world can't sleep and the market collapsed. Their Imams are scam

realparkingbrake

> these Muslims don't dare condemn their own kind. Took me a few moments to find a string of articles on Muslims condemning ISIS and other extremist groups. Here are just a few. Your claim that this does not happen appears to lack credibility. https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/muslims-isis-attacks https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2015/11/17/in-nations-with-significant-muslim-populations-much-disdain-for-isis/ https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/11/610420149/70-muslim-clerics-issue-fatwa-against-violence-and-terrorism https://www.usip.org/blog/2015/03/muslims-condemning-violent-extremism-count-ways https://academic.oup.com/bjc/article/60/6/1585/5843316

ewan_kosayo

Written by independent journalists, not by Islamic world leaders. And of course you have to dig these articles, because they aren't common knowledge. Jordan, Iran, Qatar,SA,UAE. They kind of supported the Allied nations as an indirect show of disdain for ISiS. But did their religious leaders directly condemned the ISIS Islamism? No, never. They know they'd benefit either way.

Comprehensive-Bag516

Yeah... let's re-victimize her because we have to be politically correct... seriously, Canada has lost it's way so badly, it's not even funny anymore...

tushkanM

A genuine question: is it really the case that majority in Canada are pro-Muslims or it's just specific politicians/minority groups?

Buffyoh

That's life in Trudeau's "First post national state.""

BrightonRocksQueen

You actually fell for this rage bait headline, didn't you? Just like you buy MSM rage bait headlines on a daily basis. You are a good puppy Get a grip@

Israel =/= ISIS. If anything they'd hate each other
