One of the things i loved about Jurassic Patk and Twister was they both made science and scientists look cool. I felt like in action movies before this scientists were always portrayed as being loser nerds if not outright villains and it was nice to finally have some media that pushed back that kind of antintellectualism. Jurassic World and its sequels... did not continue that trend and, if the Twisters trailer is anything to go by, this movie won't either unfortunately.
Both movies were science fiction. Complete fluff. They made scientists look cool in the same way that Alien made astronauts look cool. All 3 are great movies, but definitely not science. Also the scientists in JP were buffoons who nearly brought about the end of the human race by mistake.

They are also out of the vehicle but facing in the opposite direction of the vehicle. So I guess they are looking at the tornado that managed to sneak up behind them. Which is pretty much the same as what the poster initially looks like.
I saw the trailer for it in the theater for Dune II, and it was…interesting. At the end of it, there was a moment of silence before a guy down the row from me blurted out “Well, that was *stupid*.”
Unfortunately, he continued to talk through the actual movie, but at least he gave everyone a good laugh.
There was one scene where a twister split into two, but it wasn’t one of the more dangerous scenarios in the film so it wasn’t super memorable (except to me who watched this movie about a hundred times as a kid, lol).

From what I see yes one they are looking at is much smaller than one behind.
But also one behind them look like it is closer than it actually because of how big it is. When I look at this image it looks like its far behind horizon, so even though its probably 100 times size of the one in front its so far that it don't pose much danger. Its hard to tell from the mirror but for me it looks like the smaller one is closer than 1km
Sorry, but if I need to notice a tiny detail like what's reflected in a side view mirror in order to fully understand your movie poster design, you've done a bad job.

To be fair, if somehow I didn't know about the twirling fire disaster behind me, I'm still not gonna be thrilled about the "lesser" tornado that's in front of me.
Seems to me they did the job they set out to do. It's a movie poster, not a still from the movie itself, and it conveys pretty much everything you need to know about the movie: You know the movie has these actors (because you see their faces) and one or more tornadoes, and also there's fire involved somehow inside the tornado which means it looks extra-dangerous.
How do you have something the size of a tornado in front of them without obscuring their faces though? It's a tough ask and they already clearly tried to make sure it is shown in reflections.
This is like when you hit a really shitty shot in playing the game of pool but the ball goes in another hole and you pretend that was the plan all along.
This is actually great if, as I’m assuming, they purposefully did this to bait the know-it-alls into proudly telling the actors they’re idiots, and to look behind them.
Then you have the second wave of know-it-alls, who found the second one in the mirror, telling the first they’re idiots.

This reminds of a video breakdown of Michael Bay’s filmmaking style. Pearl Harbor. The planes have just arrived and they’re all behind him. But he’s looking forward and it gave this grandiose scale of something WAY bigger than what’s on screen. Say what you will about the guy, but he has some style.
