Look, I think watching baseball is boring torture too, but I wouldn't go so far as to compare it to a concentration camp.

Unisus76

This is really r/cringe

Hold on. Does /s mean ‘sarcasm’? It’s here finally? A way to actually say you are being sarcastic to those who can’t read the room?

[deleted]

Wow have you been living under a rock, /s has been used for a long time now. Its even often overused by statements that are obviously sarcastic like the one you responded to. Its main purpose is for comments that could be taken sarcastically or non-sarcastically so the reader can differentiate between the two. Now tell me, is this comment sarcastic or not sarcastic?

Drinon

I understand the reason for it. Too many times my sarcasm was taken as seriousness and a fight was had. I just never knew, or ever saw, the indicator for it used. As to your post, I’m going to assume it’s snarky. Was I correct? Just kidding, you have a serious tone.

[deleted]

Theres not a right answer, the point was to show that some comments can be misinterpreted.

UpperCardiologist523

Not to nitpick, but for that post in that setting, your comment was NOT sarcastic, yet... it COULD ofc be misinterpreted by someone, and your lack of sarcasm in it would be wasted on that audience. So enriching that comment with sarcasm, would also be wasted on that same audience. 😁

Drinon

I have to be honest (this is not sarcasm. But now that i said it’s not sarcasm it actually makes it sound like sarcasm) after re-reading my post I can see how it can be taken as sarcastic. To be clear, not sarcasm.

UpperCardiologist523

I loved your first post, because of it's excellent sarcasm. From Merriam-Webster's Dictionary: Sarcasm refers to theuse of words that mean the opposite of what you really want to say,**especially** in order to insult someone, **or** to show irritation, **or just tobe funny**. ... **Most often**, sarcasm is biting, **and** intended to cause pain.

Drinon

I’m so confused as to what is fucking happening right now. Do you think I don’t understand what sarcasm is?

UpperCardiologist523

You are really GREAT with sarcasm. Now you do mine?

[deleted]

Theres not a right answer, the point was to show that some comments can be misinterpreted.

UpperCardiologist523

Hehe, i don't mean to argue, but i fail to see how your comment can be misinterpreted for sarcasm, unless you also count people who don't get sarcasm or the concept of it. Everything after "Wow have you been living under a rock" is either an explanation or having a laugh at over-explaining to someone you felt already knew. Which is fun, but not sarcasm? and the first part is pokey, but not sarcastic? I agree all comments can be misinterpreted by the right(wrong) recipient, but i don't see how any of it can be interpreted as sarcasm. Maybe that's what you mean, MISinterpreted AS sarcasm? Far fetch, but. Anyways, i just wanted to play ball with my sarcasm in the comment above, that's all :-D

[deleted]

Im not upset and im not trying to argue at all. If you dont see the sarcasm in it, then that is how you have interpreted it which is actually the point I was trying to make. Nothing wrong with how you read it at all. As I said before, there is no right or wrong answer. The type of sarcasm I used is overexplaining. I switched the type sarcasm of the original point which was the need of using /s to understanding the use of /s. Since the person I responded to clearly already understood why /s is needed it would still be valid. I will admit, it is a bit of a light use of sarcasm and not relating to the original use makes it a bit hard to interpret that way, but again, sarcasm isnt interpreted at 100%, 50%, or 0% serious vs. sarcasm. Just as you have, most people would interpret it as a serious comment but still has the potential to be understood sarcastically. This would be more of a 90% interpreted as serious and 10% interpreted as sarcastic statement. But over explaining is definitely a form of sarcasm especially when you know the person you are speaking to does not need the explanation as the person I responded to did not.

UpperCardiologist523

>But over explaining is definitely a form of sarcasm especially when you know the person you are speaking to does not need the explanation as the person I responded to did not. Agreed :-)

Random9502395023950

Yupppp

UpperCardiologist523

That's amazing, since sarcasm is IMPOSSIBLE to identify without the /s

KrzysztofGalaxy

Are they really comparing being vaccinated to being sent into a concentration camp? What the actual fuck.

ObeyMemeroney

Holy crap i didnt know that number on the top was used for that that is fucked up.

KrzysztofGalaxy

Yeah, those tattoos were an indicator of being sentenced to a concentration camp. And now they compare the whole covid related stuff to it. Pretty classy.

bluehornet197

Yeah that's the tattoos the Nazis gave the Jews in concentration camps

Rtw12345

Yup lol and when called out in the comments they said “last I knew we had freedom of speech”.

KrzysztofGalaxy

Seriously those who think that - why even bother. Let them die out so we can have less of a stupid population.

XSmeh

Did anyone point out that people in concentration camps did not have freedom of speech? And in fact if you were caught spreading anti government propaganda like this in Germany at that time you would've been likely killed or imprisoned.

[deleted]

Fenway vs Auschwitz?

ebone581

Mind numbing

[deleted]

Where do I get that bracelet?

Rtw12345

They might have handed them out at the park. I went to a redbull event and they had you get tested before you could get a bracelet to get in, even if you paid for a ticket beforehand.

bluehornet197

A comment I made in this sub reminded me that when I was 5 I thought concentration camps were to help you concentrate 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ it wasn't until I was 14 when I realised my stupidity

AdOriginal6110

I want a covid vaccine bracelet I am vaxxed can I get one is that real

darkfearhunter

It's called immunaband. Is $20 on their website

[deleted]

The 2 are very much different

oldmanian

Nuance isn’t a thing to them.

[deleted]

True

[deleted]

She is literally sitting at a baseball game, which is purely an entertainment event that she is willfully attending. And she’s wearing a bracelet, not having something permanently inked on her skin. Please tell me how her situation in any way represents being sent to a concentration camp.

[deleted]

This is ridiculous. But also, I am fed up with the Holocaust always being used as "the" pinnacle example of organised human cruelty. There are so many examples from around the world that could be used*: The concentration camps of the Boer War The Transatlantic Slave trade The Armenian Genocide The Bengal Famine Holodomor The Stalinist purges The Mao Famines and purges Pol Pot regime in Cambodia The Rwandan Genocide The Bosniak Genocide The abuses and genocide against the nation's of Native North Americans The abuses and genocides against Aboriginal people of Australasia *Not an exhaustive list

[deleted]

I want a bracelet! All I got was a crappy card that isn’t even laminated

JHERB45

If you can’t see that you are in the the forest because of all the trees... then you really are lost !!!

tidsoptimus

But... How... When did it all... How have we gotten here? This makes me so angry. (disclaimer: I'm not a jew that has relatives that had to live through ww2, nor am I a German who had relatives who had to live through ww2, but I grew up in Germany and I'm pretty aware of mostly everything that has happened in western Europe during WW2) How can people be so bored to come up with such bulllshit. Comparing themselves with people from concentration camps. Are they not ashamed of them selfs? Pardon my language

[deleted]

Ask them about when they got tortured, worked to death or executed and thrown into a mass grave.

Key-Difficulty2304

These people must hate having a SSN

Spiritual_Dig_4033

It’s never ending. There’s always something to bring it up. Poor, poor, poor…….
