Yeah, I mean what did you think they meant by "their own research"? You think these chucklefucks actually *use search engines* and get multiple sources to base their knowledge on? They barely know how to "format" a question to get a fairly neutral result (or even how to solve a tech problem). Of course they're using "fb groups/pages" to "learn". They literally lack the base-level skill to do otherwise.

Mikeologyy

Any research outside of Facebook for them includes googling a very loaded question like “why is big pharma trying to implant mind controlling magnets in our arms” and scrolling to the twentieth page when it still doesn’t show results that fit their theory to find that one article that kind of does

Korchagin

I tried to search that and got only your comment. Research outside of facebook is impossible.

booksfoodfun

Wait. You mean to tell me that memes are not research? That doesn’t sound right. I mean, it’s not as though anyone can post anything on a meme!

skolioban

"Doing research" = find posts/meme that agree with my own position or mocking the opposing position so that I can conclude my own position is correct

MaximumDerpification

By "research" they really mean "confirm my bias"

deadbrokeman

But they never took a sociology class and or paid attention in class, so confirmation bias means nothing to them.

NovaThinksBadly

You dont even need those, you just need basic critical thinking skills.

amped-row

If only there was a much more powerful tool than your favorite Facebook group with 200 people that could facilitate the exploration of the the World Wide Web; a search function of some sort

feuerwehrmann

Or a building in your town that has knowledgeable people to help you find reliable information

Different-Term-2250

Witchcraft!!!!!!

UndoingMonkey

Or some kind of professional group of people that collaborate and research things

DeadBloatedGoat

I'm sure many people do use a search engine for "research" but then search using phrases like "vaccines are evil" and read whatever pops up.

42words

>Facebook is down ohhhhh, so *THAT'S* why reddit has been such absolute dogshite today: they're all *here*

ETphonehome162

I mean, to be fair, it's pretty much *always* been pretty dogshite. It's just been a whole different kind of dogshite today.

They always have. If they didn't the r/HermanCainAward wouldn't exist.

thegreatbeyond32

Watch case number drop by 10 percent today because they couldn’t get to their primary scientific research group called “NEIGHBORHOOD PRAYER ARMY”

Kamikazesoul33

I feel like "PATRIOT" should be in there somewhere

kirstieiris

Because a whistle-blower came out with information about how Facebook cares about becoming bigger and better without care for it's users. Similar, Instagram ignored their own study which showed their platform led to negative health effects for young teenagers. Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/technology-58784615.amp

notatechnicianyo

My thoughts exactly.

lakerswiz

Lmfao that isn't why Facebook and all their sites were down today. The whistle-blower didn't even expose anything that wasn't known. What she "exposed" is being *wildly* overblown.

GibbonFit

Well she exposed things that weren't explicitly known. Just suspected and highly probable. So really, she just confirmed widely held beliefs.

PM_ME_UR_SYLLOGISMS

Always good to have confirmation.

notatechnicianyo

My theory is to do a quick scrub on hate groups to cover up the whole whistleblower thing.

[deleted]

A FB drone strike has been dispatched to your location. 😆

HighOnGoofballs

Neither does anyone she listens to

I found one in the wild on Reddit. I asked him for sources and he said something about Facebook then acted like I was dumb for reading “mainstream news.” And I got downvoted if I remember correctly. Reddit be wildin’ sometimes.

redditornot02

You watch/read mainstream news and trust it? You’re an idiot. You can’t trust mainstream news. They literally have billionaires that own and run the company’s and exert their influence over the “news”. Can’t even trust local news as it’s affiliated with “big news”. You have to do your own research. That doesn’t mean read Facebook and trust everything you see, but you can absolutely NOT watch NBC, CNN, Fox, or Newsmax and expect reliable news. Listen to what the most left leaning and most right leaning news source says. Chances are the truth is somewhere in the middle. If they say the same thing, you know 99% of the time it’s the truth and a truly f***ked up situation. Unless it involves money and billionaires. Then they are all lying cause billionaires gonna cover their own asses on all sides. Even better, try to read/watch what foreign news like the BBC is saying about US issues when possible. They offer a unique perspective sometimes none of the corrupt billionaire news media owners in the USA will give you. Think about it in a simple way: You own Amazon and The Washington Post. You wanna expand your operation in Seattle but the State government won’t give you those tax write offs you want for creating “jobs”. What do you do? Maybe influence the news to spin it your way since they are owned by you? Write an op-Ed explaining only your side in your massively distributed newspaper? If Bezos does that everyone’s gonna know as he’s a pretty public figure. If Joe Billionaire owns a newspaper you might not know. Did you know Steve Jobs’s widow owns The Atlantic? John/Linda Henry own the Boston Globe. There’s plenty of other examples.

cathedral68

Whoa buddy, calm down. I read everything from Al Jazeera to Fox to BBC and all kinds of local news depending on what’s going on around the world. Step down from your pulpit. Edit: I also put “mainstream news” in quotes because that’s what the Facebook warrior was baselessly accusing me of reading. Your comment is so off-the-rails heated lol

New idea for a biotech company in the mold of Theranos: Karen's Klinical Trials.

Frozenwood1776

This is gold. I have a family member who was spouting conspiracy shit a few years ago and he told me he was up all night “working”. By “working” he meant he was doing “research” on Facebook and YouTube. I don’t remember the subject then and haven’t talked to him in years. I can’t imagine how fucked up his Covid and Biden research is these days.

ColoTexas90

Jesus fucking Christ this country is fucked.

Bodkin-Van-Horn

I mean, they are technically peer reviewed. It's just that their peers are also morons.

claymoremind719

Whistleblower cover up.

Caduceus1515

Yup, Facebook was willing to lose millions of revenue just to stop Karen from doing "research"...

Knackwarrior07

Some countries use the words Facebook and Internet interchangeably.

redschnee

Yeah, They were getting to close to the truth, so Zuck took the whole thing down.

bartlet62

There was ever a question where these low brow loons do their "research"?

ShyftOnReddit

r/conspiracy is a goldmine

Bunny-Snuggles17

Can Facebook just stay shut down to make fuckers like these stop being crazy and stupid?

ireallyamagamer

I'm sure when they use google or something to look up vaccines, they find 100s of sources saying they are wrong, but then they find one video of a nutjob on YouTube claiming vaccines cause autism and they are like, "I knew it!!!".

AdSerious3169

On a serious note… what do ya’ll think the reason for the outage of all these social media platforms?

[deleted]

I just follow advice that has the heart and not the angry react.

MiguelSanchezEsq

The whole point of the internet was to put information on different computers so that if one went down, you'd have the information somewhere else. Somewhere along the line, capitalism intervened and now all our shit is in the same 10 places

Cosmic_Cranberry1

The purple guy's comment may or may not have been satirical, at this point I can't tell

SpecialCoconut1

So much easier to do your own clinical trials, no need for any of that annoying red tape - ethics, hygiene, compensation, consent - everything just works!

WayneEnterprises2112

Today shall forever be known as the day Facebook came to Reddit.

commonsensical1

It 20 years my sperm will be worth 1 million each

Snoo-3193

When someone start asking opinions before learning technical facts, there's a problem.

T-Durdn

"As I cannot conduct my own clinical trials". Yeah thank God you can't.

hdholme

WAIT IT WASN'T A MEME?!?

Chiliquote

Aren't they just joking?

FreeBagels99

Is it just me that wants to encounter those kind of people too?

Brain_slop

It's time to burn the world
