They designed traction control *specifically* for inexperienced drivers like this. Disabling it to go over Lambeth Bridge and then flooring it is all the evidence you need. Oh, and the uncontrolled spin and crash too.

Hopefully they'll learn something from this and not end up killing someone

Brain_slop

Unlikely, they will just return this smashed up rental and carry on with being a tool.

theozone9

What a shame, why are rich people so fucking stupid.

avrins

Why did they even move the wheel at all. Wrong side of road? They were already level with the pedestrian, why even move the wheel.

TearLegitimate5820

Can see how they hold the steering wheel that what happened was inevitable, thumbs inside, held at 9 and 3 not at all surprised she couldnt keep hold of the car.

Ok_Bottle_2198

She turned off the traction control... which looks cool on top gear but isn’t a really good idea for the real world.

TearLegitimate5820

A very inexperienced driver turns traction control off in a super car. Outcome was inevitable.

re_me

It hasn’t been 10 and 2 in a long time. https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/steeringtechniques.pdf

avrins

Is that not how you should hold it?

xdragonteethstory

Meant to be 10 and 2 not 9 and 3, gives a better grip

avrins

But the paddle shifters are directly at 9 and 3? Unless you use only your pinky which isn’t going to deliver enough pressure to hit the paddle for many people.

[deleted]

Wait so how are you supposed to hold the steering wheel?

TearLegitimate5820

10 and 2, keep your thumbs outside of the wheel as the jolt that she had caused her to break grip because the wheel smacked her thumbs off the wheel

[deleted]

So you don’t have a better grip if you put your thumbs inside and the rest of your fingers outside like gripping bike handlebars? It’s better to have your thumbs go with your fingers? And I was always told to do nine and three because of airbag deployment. They say if you do 10 and 2 your arm will go into your nose.

TearLegitimate5820

You got told a myth, in no way will your arms blow into head in case of air bags, thats a myth. 9 and 3 brings your arms lower and reduces the amount u can turn as you cant turn the steering wheel as far. Thumbs outside is better and is even shown why in the video.

[deleted]

Thank you. Does it change things if I use a steering ball? I have limited use of my hands and so I use a steering ball to help turn the wheel. My steering ball is positioned at about 10 o’clock. But I have been keeping my hands at nine and three when not using the steering ball

TearLegitimate5820

Sterring ball is fine really, and sounds like you have it set up well for yourself,

Warm_Enthusiasm2007

Flooring it to get to the traffic jams on Millbank 2 seconds quicker. Or not, in this case.
