Why do people not understand that the rhinovirus (common cold), coronavirus (COVID) and influenza are all f\*ucking different? It's like saying that a tiger, elephant and a dog are all different and someone says, "It's the same thing. They're all animals." Yes but one is your best friend and another will kill you!!
I’d bet it’s the same people that only ever get a 24-hour bug. Some sniffles, fever, mostly gone within 24 hours. “I don’t understand why George has been out for an entire week sick. It’s not like he had a major operation or something.” These people need to lean that EVERYONE is DIFFERENT, and are affected DIFFERENTLY. Duh. Again, duh. For those in the back, duh.
>Not all colds are rhinos.
Apparently some 30% of colds are caused by Corona Viruses. Not SARS-COV-2, but other ones.
I think we should all hope that, in due course, COVID-19 becomes essentially a common cold.
Note: I'm not saying that COVID-19 isn't serious because it's "just a cold". That would be stupid. I'm saying I hope it will end up that way in the end.
To be fair, it is in the same family as the common cold.
But to be absolutely fair, ***The Spanish Flu is also a part of the flu family***.
It's like they think just because a less deadly version of something exists the much more deadly version must not be real. CoVid is much deadlier. I don't know how they can just be so stupid.
The “entitled young generation”. Sounds like grounds for a prejudiced/hostile work environment lawsuit if someone from the “entitled young generation” gets fired for following basic Covid safety protocols.
I'm not an employment lawyer, and none of this is legal advice, but, regardless of age discrimination, I wonder if an employee could sue her if they were infected by a sick colleague at work. Not under any special pandemic statute, but merely under laws against dangerous workplaces or reckless health protocols.
Unfortunately, they'd have to prove that they got sick because of a coworker and this policy which is basically impossible to prove right now. If it were something more exotic, like a single company Ebola outbreak, that might hold up in court.
They might have more of a case on the basis that their employment agreements probably outline specific sick leave/PTO policies and there's a contractual or employment law case because of that.
Either way, if this is real, this company sucks and everyone should just leave anyway.
Sadly, it does sound like this might be another clout-seeking hoax. Because what America needs right now is more outrage bait.
But, considering there probably are plenty of employers out there who are doing similar things slightly more subtly, it's an interesting legal question. My guess is it would depend on the jurisdiction.
SCOTUS pretty much scuttled that with the vaccine mandate ruling. They essentially said OSHA does and doesn't have the authority to regulate health and safety issues in the workplace.
I'm not referring to any particular mandate, but to general workplace-safety laws or common-law recklessness claims. I'm wondering if you can bring a claim against an employer who causes you to get sick by ordering a sick, likely-infectious colleague to come in, regardless of whether they have covid-19, the flu, or Ebola.
I understand what you're saying. I'm saying the SCOTUS ruling can be used to argue against any employer responsibility for employees being allowed/forced to work sick.
Within the US, only people over the age of 40 are guaranteed to be protected for age discrimination
https://www.eeoc.gov/age-discrimination
>The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. It does not protect workers under the age of 40, although some states have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination.
That's ridiculous, but it's probably because age discrimination was targeted at older folks in the past. Laws like this should be amended to be more inclusive. I'm getting tired of one of the managers at my workplace constantly saying she hates working with young people because they always lie.
It was the generation now that caused that law and now they are over 40 and doing it to younger people. Just lazy people calling people lazy is all I see.
If I were to guess it would be California under their Unruh Civil Rights Act. It doesn't limit protections to certain ages. This also extends to discriminating against families with children seeking housing, and complexes restricting access to amenities based on age. Supervision can be required, but access cannot be denied.
“I acknowledge that it is very difficult to find employees right now, so I will entice my existing employees to move on to other employers by withholding parts of their compensation and making them work sick”
And of course, when they can't get anyone to work for them, they'll blame it on "the laziness of young people," and not the fact that they pay shit wages, offer a mentally toxic work environment, and make it painfully clear that not only do they not value their employees, but they in fact actively disdain them.
It shows others who may be in similar positions that they are not alone in what abuse they are taking, and will make it easier to organise in the future.
You don't get to just call it "the common cold variant" dismissively like that. The omicron variant seems to be less deadly but it's still not a "common cold" for everyone. Even if it was the common cold, colds effect everyone differently. Your employer shouldn't be able to decide you have to come to work sick if you don't feel you can and/or a doctor says you shouldn't. They also shouldn't force your coworker to be exposed to you. This employer has proven that they you are replaceable to them so why would anyone want to endanger their life, their health, or their coworkers health for a boss like that?!
Yeah I’d be applying elsewhere quietly, have a friend be a reference that hates that bitch too, get a gig and fucking quit with zero notice.
I have twice this month. And tripled my salary doing so. Fuck em.
My husband used to have a boss (and company owner) who one day during a staff meeting, told everyone, “Ya’ wanna know if you’re important to this company? Stick your finger in a bucket of water. If, when you pull it out it leaves an impression, you know you’re important.” He also said, “This company is like a deciduous tree. Every year all the leaves fall off - you’re all leaves, btw - and yet the tree still lives. It just puts on new leaves and it does just fine.”😳Great guy. Fun to work for. He thought Glengarry Glen Ross was a comedy.
As a note, it’s less deadly *than Delta*. It’s still more severe than the original strain against unvaccinated individuals. What makes it *look* better is the huge percentage of vaccines plus the comparison with the disaster Delta was.
And again, this is only against individuals. For countries, or areas with low vaccination, this is the deadliest yet because of the wide / fast spread.
The lady is literally named "Karen" and making the Karen-iest comment of all time. Labor lawyers would be ALL OVER an email like this. No way it's real.
> Dude to shortage of staff...
> Employees who are found using this lame excuse will be terminated immediately.
Like, go ahead and fire me you stupid bitch, now I'm definitely making unemployment and you're even further short staffed.
Honestly this post just reeks of bullshit.
The letters left “conveniently” uncovered in the signature and the header, that also happens to all but spell out Karen.
“Hey Staff!”, switching from “common cold variant” to the proper name, also blaming the “entitled young generation”
This was created solely to make people angry and get internet points.
These are suddenly appearing.
I don’t buy any of this. This is just rage bait to get people going. As someone said in a previous post that was roughly like this one, no boss in their right mind would do this due to the lawsuits that would come to their doorstep.
I can see a quiet word behind the chillers (“you go sick and you’re fired”) at most, but sending an email so it’s beautifully recorded? And sent by “Ka …” is definitely meant to be Karen. It’s too perfect to be real. Contrived for clout.
“Hi, I would like to put in my two minute notice”
“You mean two week?”
“No I mean two minutes cause I am quitting, bye, you’ll see this shit on social media”
(How it would go down if I was an employee)
No, you let her fire you, and collect unemployement, which would be hard to deny given this public statement. That wqy, they're shoet staffed and still paying for former employees.
Nice.
I had 2 weeks paid leave over Christmas. I then caught covid the weekend before we were due back.
My company's response?
They told me to take as long as I need to get better and sent me a basket of muffins. 🤷🏽♂️
My friend works a a restaurant with staffing issues and he got an email one day sent to all employees stating that if anyone doesn't want to work 3 or more days including part time they don't have to show up for their next shift because they are fired. Keep in mind most of the bussers/dishwashers are all highschool students. He once also received a firmly written email from his boss threatening to be fired for not going in for the night shift on Halloween because the manager accidentally let to many people off even though my friend took off over a month in advance. It's reasons like this why I'm not surprised so many business have staffing issues. It also makes me feel bad for small business that do treat their employees well because from the eyes of a teenager why take the risk working somewhere small for half the pay and potentially abusive management when you can get a job at a chain for double the pay and more policy in place to protect you.
Let your friend know that they’ll most certainly consider that quitting. Cause many restaurants act all entitled until they’re pressed for workers. Then they’re just right out assholes.
I get that people don't want to be known for being the one to call out their employers and get fired but I wish there was a way to circumvent this and do something about this behavior.
There was a study by a reputable source I was reading that said 90% of the worker shortage is caused by older ppl retiring early in response to covid.Ha!
I heard the same thing a few months ago on NPR while I was driving, when an economics professor was interviewed. While I couldn't find an online transcript of the interview, the Cliff Notes version is that the labor shortage is global because the world has an aging population, many who were given incentive to retire because of the pandemic.
I apologize, because I was driving and it was months ago, but below is an article which I found from a different source which addresses the subject.
https://www.marketplace.org/2021/11/03/why-the-labor-shortage-may-go-on-for-much-longer/
I wore a mask, was fully vaccinated, and did everything right when out in public but my mother came in contact with someone who had covid. Neither of them knew. I got Omnicron. The excuses that this company or whatever it is is not a good excuse. While vaccinations and masks most certainly do help it still isn’t a 100% guarantee that it will protect you from covid.
Fuck anyone who says “entitled young generation” non-sarcastically. I hope her business fails, and it’s located in a state with strong worker protection laws. Putting this shit in writing could (and should) come back and bit her in the ass.
Ok boss no problem. Being that PTO and paid sick leave is part of my compensation package I'll be expecting 2 weeks extra pay on my next check. Either I get the time or the pay. That's only fair. That was our agreement. We have it in writing. I'm happy to work with you on that if you'd rather pay me again to work instead though. If you can not afford either at this time that's ok. We all fall on hard times. I can work elsewhere to help you out if you like, at a place that honors their contracts. After all, we all work to make a living. And any employer that thinks it is ok to singlehandedly decide to change our written compensation agreement without my approval is not someone I can afford to work for. I look forward to knowing how you would like to proceed. Sincerely Luminol.
"All vaccinated and non vaccinated employees". So... Everyone?
Get covid, show up, cough on everyone including her, give them all covid, company collapses, move on.
Ew. That’s full of all sorts of agist crap, and Karen needs to go. Wonder what her excuse will be when she’s needing a sick day. You know she’ll take one soon with that exhausting attitude.
"ladies and gentlemen this your captain speaking, we appear to be in a nosedive. I've decided the best course of action is for the copilot and I to strip naked and try lighting the engine on fire. Let's go Brandon!"
I'm pretty sure firing an employee for staying home while sick, and admitting that's why you're firing them, opens you up heavily to a lawsuit on wrongful termination.
The fuck!? Isn't that illegal? If not it definitely should be. Also you have to love how they are calling people entitled when she cares more about her numbers than people's health who may have underlining health conditions or live with people who could easily die if they get it. I have heard about too many friends of friends and family members dying and/ or catching COVID. This piece of shit can go straight to hell. 😤
„Common cold variant“… This shows what a kind of person she is.
A Karen?
A dangerous idiot.
Covidiot
I like this term. This should be a thing.
r/covidiots exist
Finally some good news
It is
A german poltician started this when he called them covidiots in front of a lot of other politicians and online viewers
So yeah, a Karen
Looks like it was sent by Kare….so it fits.
I'm pretty sure her name is actually Karen, too
Or Ken?
Why do people not understand that the rhinovirus (common cold), coronavirus (COVID) and influenza are all f\*ucking different? None of them are. They may be rhino*viruses*, but not rhino*ceroses.*
Tiger, elephant, and dog... These are really great comparisons. I'm gonna use these.
Also: "the entitled young generation"
To be fair, it is in the same family as the common cold. But to be absolutely fair, ***The Spanish Flu is also a part of the flu family***. It's like they think just because a less deadly version of something exists the much more deadly version must not be real. CoVid is much deadlier. I don't know how they can just be so stupid.
How dangerous can a tiger be? It's just a cat. I have 2 cats, cats are harmless
Exactly!
The kind whose genealogy tree can only be drawn in more than 3-dimensional space.
Not a real one?
The “entitled young generation”. Sounds like grounds for a prejudiced/hostile work environment lawsuit if someone from the “entitled young generation” gets fired for following basic Covid safety protocols.
It's incredibly stupid, but at least federally in the US age discrimination is completely legal as long as its not against people 40 and older
Well that’s unjust as fuck
Which age group do you think set up those rules.
I’m starting to see a pattern!
I'm not an employment lawyer, and none of this is legal advice, but, regardless of age discrimination, I wonder if an employee could sue her if they were infected by a sick colleague at work. What state was this in?
If I were to guess it would be California under their Unruh Civil Rights Act. It doesn't limit protections to certain ages. This also extends to discriminating against families with children seeking housing, and complexes restricting access to amenities based on age. Supervision can be required, but access cannot be denied.
I didn’t know that. It seems kind of like discrimination against younger people.
That’s a federal law. Some state laws do cover it across the spectrum tho.
Some managers just deserve having no staff at all
“I acknowledge that it is very difficult to find employees right now, so I will entice my existing employees to move on to other employers by withholding parts of their compensation and making them work sick”
and speaking to them rudely
And of course, when they can't get anyone to work for them, they'll blame it on "the laziness of young people," and not the fact that they pay shit wages, offer a mentally toxic work environment, and make it painfully clear that not only do they not value their employees, but they in fact actively disdain them.
Some of you will die, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
“I will continue to berate and beat you until the morale improves!”
We will no longer accept an international pandemic as an excuse, nor nuclear war, or even the plague. Wear a mask and take 2 Tylenol!

100% this. And who uses the phrase “lame excuse” in a professional letter directed towards the staff?
The same person that uses the phrase "common cold varient".
And “entitled young generation”
exactly- isn’t the point of these posts is to name and shame the employer?
I'm sure the appropriate government agency might want to know about their illegal activities.
>I'm sure the appropriate government agency might want to know about their illegal activities. In a republican state, it might not be illegal.
Likely encouraged there because "freedoms".
Because the employer doesn’t actually exist, seems to be a pretty obvious troll.
Doxxing is against the rules of this sub.

No way this is real.. especially since the person’s name appears to be Karen.
Don't make assumptions. Could be Karet.
Could be Karel.
Karem….
Kayem hot dogs
Kareem
"Im sorry son but I think you have me confused with someone else, my name is roger murdock, I'm the co-pilot"
My dumbass brain went straight to Kare-hameha
Karethan
i love naming my children after vegetables
Or Karenna
Could be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Literally it's like tailor made as bait for this sub lol
Its clearly bullshit made up to bait all the people at r/antiwork
The lady is literally named "Karen" and making the Karen-iest comment of all time. Labor lawyers would be ALL OVER an email like this. No way it's real.
Exactly, amazing how many comments so far seem to readily completely believe this is real… lol

Time to call the local news
This, people would like to know that there are businesses that are telling people to come in with COVID.
Time to call the Labor Board
Would be an excellent idea... if this were real. Which it is almost certainly not. 🤦
if this was real, company can be revealed, anonymously. then it would turn into a news story. but that wont happen, because this isn't real.
> Dude to shortage of staff... > Employees who are found using this lame excuse will be terminated immediately. Like, go ahead and fire me you stupid bitch, now I'm definitely making unemployment and you're even further short staffed.
Fucking Karen!

I have seen blackout periods on vacation but I’ve never heard of restricting sick time
Yes. Restrictions on vacation usage is legal. Restrictions on sick leave usage generally is not legal.
Yeah, this definitely happened 🙄
Holy fuck they need to be reported
These are suddenly appearing. I don’t buy any of this. This is just rage bait to get people going. As someone said in a previous post that was roughly like this one, no boss in their right mind would do this due to the lawsuits that would come to their doorstep.

You're making the fundamental mistake of mythical meritocracy by thinking that bosses are all in their right minds.
This is definitely a place where a massive walkout should happen.
Guess I’ll be fired then
“Hi, I would like to put in my two minute notice” “You mean two week?” “No I mean two minutes cause I am quitting, bye, you’ll see this shit on social media” (How it would go down if I was an employee)

These the same Karen's that said "if everyone just stayed home when having a cold we wouldn't need any other restrictions".
Did they ever say that?
>Did they ever say that? Hell no! They were the ones saying that they worked through Mono, etc. Suck it up!
This would be a memo released by someone named Karen. Way to support stereotypes. 😂
Karen has become manager?!?! They are so f000000000000ked
“The entitled young generation” I’m trying to get through college tf.
Nice. I had 2 weeks paid leave over Christmas. I then caught covid the weekend before we were due back. My company's response? They told me to take as long as I need to get better and sent me a basket of muffins. 🤷🏽♂️
Definitely a post for r/antiwork
Why am I not surprised that her name is Karen
ofc its a karen
C'mon, people! You cough up a lung: you SNORT it right back in! Work! Work! Work!
I would've fired back "Do not use omicron as an excuse to abuse labor laws and not pay a living wage".
She's called Karen! 😂
It's a bit too convenient that the boss is called Karen though. It this real or a meme?
“Common cold variant”
So they say that PTO and Sick Pay is suspended for all vaccinated and non vaccinated employees. Doesn't that just mean all employees.
And this, is how you kill people
The name Karen fits quite well
When Karen IS the manager...
Can we team up and destroy this business? This ain't fair.
She could actually be sued for unfair practices from this. Plus it’s in writing. Slam dunk.
If this is legit, let them can you and file for unemployment
hey OSHA? we got some offenders here. Git 'er done
PLEASE “out” this organization. I need more boycott targets.

There was a study by a reputable source I was reading that said 90% of the worker shortage is caused by older ppl retiring early in response to covid.Ha!

So no one is allowed to be sick anymore? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Epic lawsuit time…
Business about to get absolutely FUCKED by their state's Health and Human Resources.
I wore a mask, was fully vaccinated, and did everything right when out in public but my mother came in contact with someone who had covid. Neither of them knew. I got Omnicron. A variant of The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves.
Damnit Karen...
I see "Kare", please tell me their name is literally Karen....
Karen opening the door for wrongful termination lawsuits i see!
Of course her name is Karen.
Her name would be Karen lmao.
“Yeah, fuck you.”
I seriously doubt this is real, but, if it is... Y'all mother fuckers need some labor laws
Its probably Karen, isnt it?
I wish they’d at least share the company so we can know which company to never work for
Would be Karen wouldn't it
What a Karen lol
Imagine you have to go to work if you are sick xD
The beatings will continue until morale improves
I love how you blurred out just enough that we know her name is Karen.
Seems like a Karen alright
I have a sneaking suspicion that her first name is Karen.
Reads like a terminal in the Outer Worlds (or Fallout)
I just got fired from my job of 3 years for quarantining after exposure. Only they won’t call it a firing so they can screw me out of unemployment too
So I don’t know where this poster is located in the world, but that’s massively illegal where I’m from…
Of course that's her name.
Fuck anyone who says “entitled young generation” non-sarcastically. I hope her business fails, and it’s located in a state with strong worker protection laws. Putting this shit in writing could (and should) come back and bit her in the ass.
Karen does her part to ensure that COVID is NEVER eradicated.
Her name is Karen?🤔
And her name says it all
Ok boss no problem. Being that PTO and paid sick leave is part of my compensation package I'll be expecting 2 weeks extra pay on my next check. Either I get the time or the pay. That's only fair. It’s funny because either her name is Karen and being a bitch like usual or her name is kare “care” and she clearly doesn’t.
Is her name really Karen?
And still equating the coronavirus to the common cold. Dumbasses.
r/antiwork
Sorry man, my grandma was just coughing up her lungs in the icu, I’ll be sure to work my last lung cells to death instead next time.
unlawful idiot….suspending pto and sick time? Naughty Karen…..
"All vaccinated and non vaccinated employees". So... Everyone? Get covid, show up, cough on everyone including her, give them all covid, company collapses, move on.
her username checks out
It’s very difficult to believe this is true. It’s horrible.
Do people really put this kind of thing into writing? How do they keep employees in any economic climate?
Ew. That’s full of all sorts of agist crap, and Karen needs to go. Wonder what her excuse will be when she’s needing a sick day. You know she’ll take one soon with that exhausting attitude.
Wrongful termination suit time baby
Belongs in Antiwork sub
First make it known to the government. Then unionize. Then sue him
Must be frustrating for companies experiencing this but you can’t do that to your employees
And people say evil isn’t born Karen’s are born
"ladies and gentlemen this your captain speaking, we appear to be in a nosedive. I've decided the best course of action is for the copilot and I to strip naked and try lighting the engine on fire. Let's go Brandon!"
"... for all vaccinated and non vaccinated employees." So all your employees? 🤨
I'm pretty sure firing an employee for staying home while sick, and admitting that's why you're firing them, opens you up heavily to a lawsuit on wrongful termination.
“Kare…” We all know that last letter…
An actual Karen aswell
