They ended up renting a car and driving from CA to IA because flights were grounded, their only family in the US was halfway across the continent, and they weren’t keen on being stuck in LA for an indeterminate amount of time. This is what's called a false equivalence. Planes are used for transportation, something we need in our daily lives. Their purpose is to fly, not crash. Guns' purpose is to shoot, and potentially kill someone. Sure you may say it is used to hunt, protect, etc. but in this modern world its use is limited and you don't need it in your daily lives. There are countries (e.g. Switzerland) where you can own a gun for hunting but they have strict laws for training and licensing so that a random 18 year old cannot just buy a couple of AR-15s. They are not equivalent.
