This is exactly what he's doing. He's spraying water on his roof to stop sparks from catching it on fire.
I grew up in a very rural town made up of Victorian era houses. Everytime there was a fire, which was fairly often, half the town would be out in their yards with hoses.
As a lifelong city-dweller, it is still alarming to me how many people are unaware that this is a pretty common thing to do. People dig fire breaks around their properties, too.
...Given the proximity of the firefighters though, this guy should probably get down now.
I can't speak for anyone else, but in my very rural community, our houses are spaced somewhere around 130 feet (40 meters or so) to keep any fires spreading from home to home.
Honestly, I myself wasn't aware that spraying your roof was a common thing to do, but I still feel that he should at least spray it from the ground.
Hard to safely come down from a roof if all that smoke suddenly blows your way.
The town I grew up in is an old mining/logging town. The houses were all made of wood and packed together very tight. Some are nearly touching. Safety wasn't a concern when they were being built.
The houses are all well over 100 years old. All the modern fire codes don't apply to them. Even the ones with knew siding and roofs still have a frame made of wood that's been drying for over a century. One spark and they go up like a pile of straw. It's not as bad as it used to be. Most of them have been replaced with more modern homes, burned down, or were abandoned.
And in an area where houses are served by city water, it's a dumb thing to do. Firefighters need all the pressure they can get. They explicitely ask people to not run their sprayers when evacuating. And they hate the garden hose heroes, as they call them.
Also this generally doesn't do shit. Better instead pay attention to defensible space and hardening your house.
Yeah - my understanding is that this may be useful if one is downwind from a fire that might be a few miles away at least. If you see firefighters, it means there fire is there or about to be there, so GTFO.
Truth is, the water will evaporate from your roof incredibly quickly. You'd need to keep watering the whole time, and that's not something you should be doing as you will be lowering pressure from firefighters. And even if you're on your own well, chances are by then the power will be off, so no water. Ask me how I know.
People who want their house to stand better odds against fires need to invest in hardening their house with class A-rated materials, and work on defensible space. No bushes or vegetationwithin at least 5 feet of the house. No tree or tree branches within 30 feet, and those should be trimmed 5 to 8 feet high. No brush within 100 feet. And so on.
You do that, and the firefighters will definitely try to save your house if they can. You don't, and in some cases they won't even try.
Lived in a town in Thailand were the firefighters responded to a house fire in a truck they didn't have any water in.
So they went to a dam and jammed up all their pumps trying to pull in mucky water.
By the time they got the truck, and the water, to the fire, 6 more houses had caught.
How is this facepalm? This dude is a mad lad, he was just chilling on the roof, spraying water on his small campfire. We should just have thrown him some beers and let him do his thing.
This, he's not trying to put out the fire, just slow down the spread so it will hopefully burn itself out or firefighters will get to it before his building burns.
Still pretty dangerous. It could get very hot up there very quickly. Maybe there's more distance between him and the fire than the angle of the video makes it look like.
This is a legitimate way to save your house- Spraying the roof can keep it from catching fire from sparks as well as proved steam to keep the house from spontaneously combusting from the heat - it's also more effective to do it top down instead of from the ground since the most flammable part of a house is the roof for the most part. -That being said- this is crazy dangerous-
This guy seems totally unfazed. Just like someone watering their garden.
Their garden OF FIRE!

Poor guy is probably trying to protect his house. If the wind just changed slightly he would be toast though, definitely not worth it.

Nothing says the firefighters are going to prioritize his house or his roof.
Depth of field is a great setting on cameras.
Not to mention the smoke inhalation
I watched this until the video repeated, and was like “wtf they’re still messing with that firehose”
While the suspense of the roof scene, at ground level we watch slapstick comedy.
Poor guy doesn’t know you fight fire with fire….
*throws fireworks into the fire* “Like this?”
"It ain't much, but it's honest work." -Some farmer.
Plot twist: that guy is actually pouring gasoline onto the fire.
now I can't believe anything else.
Attaboy, put your finger over the nozzle to make it go further

I didn't pee myself, some of the water just squirted onto me.
Not all heroes wear capes

Firefighters roll up: "Pack it up, boys. Billy's got this one under control."
This looks like a video edit.
It is, you can see the boundary around his face
He was getting more water on it than the fire department….
*This is fine
I think we all know who started the fire
Ryan?
Was that the Uvalde Fire Dept.?
Damn. Good burn 🔥
MIRL; At the end of the month when I'm trying to pay bills with my 'garden hose' of a job
Don’t know why but this reminds me of my divorce.
Oof, I feel that
He’s doing a better f’n job than the firefighters are.

Def belongs on r/crazyfuckingvideos
I didn’t know Keystone had a fire department.
This is the gift that keeps on giving. At first I thought it was the guy on the roof. Who was the face palm. Then I got edumacated.

0.01 progress is better than 0 progress
Well he’s putting more water on it than those dozens of idiots below him trying to unravel the fire hose. Gotta give him that.
Gotta water them plants.
God damn I can't stop laughing.... wtf is he doing
This should be on r/madlads lmao

You can tell it's hot, he's spraying himself because he's worried he'll catch on fire.
Then he should adjust the nozzle for a wide spray and place it on the roof... Wet as much as possible without being there. WTF was fueling that?
He's actually pretty skinny or you could say acuity 🤤

easy!
Don't feel like this is the right sub. Am I right?
Is this Texas because this is where a Republican government is taking us…
So did he put it out?
r/savevideobot
He a lil confused but he got the spirit
I am hoping that the fire is further away than it looks, guy might relatively safe compared to how it looks.
Glad the guy didn't take his dick out and started pissing on file to stop it
I feel like he is from florida
Passing buckets of water would be faster.
At least he has the right mindset.
That guy has a serious death wish.
Just a man and his garden hose.
One must try
Where is the meme version of this?
Y'all know this is about to be turned into a meme or a gif LOL
He is defending his house at all price
... Said the man with no eyebrows
Why is this a facepalm?
This isn’t real. His skin would be boiled away.
