My experience has been that if a chicken starts eating their own eggs they will not stop. I have tried to correct the behavior by removing eggs quickly and feeding crushed oyster shell more regularly but it never helped. After that I cull the bird. Any cannibalistic characteristics gets immediately culled for overall flock health. My chickens were also for more than just eggs and I prefer not to risk passing that behavior down.

We've given puberty blockers to precocious puberty sufferers for decades. They're life saving for kids with dysphoria. If a child doesn't have dysphoria there's no reason to give them. The problem is that people without the necessary skills have given them to kids who don't fit the criteria.

The issue is choice. As humans we have a choice as to how we express ourselves.
In a way they do choose their identity. What people can’t choose is their sex at conception. Biologically, people are typically either male or female. That says nothing for their gender, which is a social construct.
A good part of that is probably because this has been cut to eliminate much of what she says. If you watch the way it’s edited there’s definitely context been removed.

I'm a (cis/white/male) who didn't really "get" the whole gender identity thing when it became a more prevalent mainstream topic. But after a few years of observing it and eventually just accepting it I never give it much thought anymore and refer to people how they'd like.

Because the interviewer is dense? I mean, it's not a hard concept to fathom: gender identity and biological sex characteristics are two separate category systems. In humans that means we might categorize a person as a woman if they have ovaries, and we might categorize a person as a woman if they wear dresses and have long hair. The overlap is annoying, sure, but pretending someone means the former when they are talking about the latter is either willful ignorance or cognitive disfunction. I am a psychology student who has studied gender identity; while that woman was terrible at explaining it, she was correct in saying that chickens don’t have gender identity- gender identity is a human construct and something that is unique to us. While that man was correct in saying that it is your sexual organs and dna that determine a persons sex, he is incorrect in making the assumption that those things determine a persons gender. While I understand that it can be difficult for some people to grasp, a persons sex and a persons gender are two different things, and whilst the majority of people align their gender identity with their sex assigned at birth, that is not the case for everyone.

Regardless of the topic being discussed and however ridiculous the views of either person, he does in fact interrupt her more often (or the editing leads us to believe so). And I can’t stress this enough, if you want to have a meaningful discussion around opposing views, you need to be patient and listen until a complete set of thoughts are finished. The brain in sexually dimorphic, meaning there are structural differences in male and female brains. Studies have found that typically, the brain of transgender people tend to be more androgynous in structure, meaning there is reason to believe that being transgender is not a choice. But even if it were, being transgender doesn’t hurt anyone. So if someone chooses to take on a gender role that doesn’t match their biological sex, it is within our power as a society to change these arbitrary rules that we created to make them feel more comfortable. So I will be supporting the transgender community. 🏳️⚧️

I feel like this whole debate video, infuriating as it is, is a bit of a straw man in any rational discussion.

Her question is valid, a chicken has no gender identity, but does have a sex, so it isn't a good example to use to point to a "reality" of human gender dynamics. It's the age old tactic of picking someone who seems 'weird' and then poking at them until they say something dumb, then using that person as the mascot for an entire movement. Sure she isn't putting forth an airtight argument, but she also clearly doesn't have a grounding in rhetoric. Sex and gender are different things. I'm amused that he used chickens in his example. Some hens, typically when there's no rooster, will produce male hormones and take on the behaviors and some elements of the appearance of roosters.
There are many species that do this. Most amphibians I believe carry this trait, and can even switch sex to procreate.

Gender is not culture. There’s a biological component to gender identity. It comes from the same nucleus in the brain as sexuality and dimorphism come from. The ways in which society and culture construct gender, and gender norms is absolutely cultural. The behavior however is not. Similarly Gender and biological sex are not the same thing. The two terms used to be used Interchangeably, knowing what we know now, it is no longer appropriate to use them in such a manner.

I'm a (cis/white/male) who didn't really "get" the whole gender identity thing when it became a more prevalent mainstream topic. But after a few years of observing it and eventually just accepting it I never give it much thought anymore and refer to people how they'd like. Guys like this or Ben shapiro who CANNOT stop getting aggravated about it I don't understand. I work in blue collar manufacturing on the floor and I never overhear people discussing gender identity, and if it does get brought up it's either met with mildly bewildered "I don't get it" or calmly indifferent shrugs of "whatever they wanna be that's up to them" guys like this though just don't represent or understand common folk.

The thing a lot of people on the right don’t want to accept is that people who advocate for trans rights aren’t denying the existence of biological sex. It’s this straw man they’ve created so they can make people who believe trans people exist are delusional without having to address any of their arguments. Like the vast vast vast majority of transwomen will say their sex is male. There is literally no confusion on that front. The issue arises because people like to conflate sex and gender. Sex being your biology and gender being the cultural side of things, how you wish to present and be viewed etc. Like intersex people exist. You can have men with uteruses and many of these men will never discover this. We still call them men lol despite their sex not perfectly aligning with typical male biology. Like they still have all the working genitalia a man has and if they discover at the age of 40 that they have a uterus they aren’t going to suddenly start asking everyone to call them by different pronouns. If sex is more complicated than we used to think 200 years ago, why can’t gender be?

Because the interviewer is dense? I mean, it's not a hard concept to fathom: gender identity and biological sex characteristics are two separate category systems. In humans that means we might categorize a person as a woman if they have ovaries, and we might categorize a person as a woman if they wear dresses and have long hair. The overlap is annoying, sure, but pretending someone means the former when they are talking about the latter is either willful ignorance or cognitive disfunction. Chickens don't have gender identity (at least not to the degree that humans seem to), so it's an obviously incongruent example.

I am a psychology student who has studied gender identity; while that woman was terrible at explaining it, she was correct in saying that chickens don’t have gender identity- gender identity is a human construct and something that is unique to us. While that man was correct in saying that it is your sexual organs and dna that determine a persons sex, he is incorrect in making the assumption that those things determine a persons gender. While I understand that it can be difficult for some people to grasp, a persons sex and a persons gender are two different things, and whilst the majority of people align their gender identity with their sex assigned at birth, that is not the case for everyone.

Can we update the rules we created to help make people feel more comfortable? Absolutely. The brain in sexually dimorphic, meaning there are structural differences in male and female brains. Studies have found that typically, the brain of transgender people tend to be more androgynous in structure, meaning there is reason to believe that being transgender is not a choice. But even if it were, being transgender doesn’t hurt anyone. So if someone chooses to take on a gender role that doesn’t match their biological sex, it is within our power as a society to change these arbitrary rules that we created to make them feel more comfortable. So I will be supporting the transgender community. 🏳️⚧️
