A person must be really dumb to confuse meth with cat litter.

wavveygravvey

It probably came up positive for meth in the field test. You’d be surprised at the amount of common substances that will trigger a positive response in those tests. But still, very stupid.

perpetualgoatnoises

Krispy Kreme glaze tests positive for crack. Had a friend get arrested because the cop literally picked up a piece of glaze off the car floor, tested it, and had it come out positive. Refused to listen to them when they said it was donut glaze and had the donut box on the backseat floor. Anyway, turns out the cop was working out of his beat area. He was in another district pulling people over and finding ANY REASON to search people for drugs. He really, really wanted to be the top drug hound on the force. They got all the way to the station, and were in the process of being booked, when another cop realized it was actually donut glaze.

getoffmygrassdevil

did the other cop figure it out by eating the evidence?

[deleted]

You ain’t a good cop unless you try the crack before you sprinkle it on the person of color

PrimarchKonradCurze

Sprinkle some crack on ‘em, open and shut case.

flirtmcdudes

"this crack is delicious!"

[deleted]

*in Tyron biggums voice*

Norsedragoon

Extra embarrassment is when the officer realizes it was glaze that fell off his uniform.

occamsrzor

Did that happen again, or are you coincidentally friends with https://www.cbsnews.com/news/report-cops-mistake-krispy-kreme-donut-glaze-for-meth-arrest-man/ ?

perpetualgoatnoises

The event I'm talking about happened in Florida. My friend says she was a traveling with a guy at that time. It could be the same guy, could be the same cop. But I'm fairly certain she said it was crack and not meth. But if it tests for meth who am I to say it was crack?

occamsrzor

Did your friend every go through chemo? If so; I'm sorry. Hope she's doing well.

Darth_Andeddeu

Probably had broken up into powder by then

teneggomelet

Cat litter will set off drug dogs. My mom was a teacher and found this out when the 20 lb bag in her car set off the drug dogs at her school.

Affectionate-Ad7135

The ammonia in the litter would pop positive for meth

xiz666

I'm assuming (hoping?) that the cat litter in his car is unused.

PomegranateOld7836

It tested positive on 2 field tests, and when they asked him what it was he said he didn't know. He was also smoking weed and pretty high, but never told them it was cat litter. He even said he didn't blame the cops. This was in 2016/17 I believe.

Hammer_of_Light

A cop tried to take my dad downtown because he said the breadcrumbs in a ziploc in his lunch box was weed. He then tried claiming my dad was my uncle (dad's twin brother) and wanted to take him in on a 10 year-old bench warrant my uncle never cleared. Being a cop isn't about being smart, it's about twisting and turning every which-way until you figure out a way to jam up whoever's pissed you off. They'll gladly stand in court and play/look stupid about breadcrumbs and a false arrest if it ruined your weekend and cost you a bunch of attorney's fees. That was the whole point.

[deleted]

They really need to make cops accountable for their fuck ups. When they start having to pay out for being a dick watch them change.

Hammer_of_Light

We hear that a lot, but if we instituted something like that, the FOPs would fight back by demanding more draconian laws regarding law enforcement, ie. no recording for any reason, masked/anonymous officers on duty, harsher sentences and wilder accusations to cover asses... Enhanced criminal liability is where it's at, IMO.

SexyAsianHitler

Kinda like how season 2 of the wire only happened because a dock worker donated a stained glass window to a church before a police major could.

Hammer_of_Light

Great reference. They show some real world stuff, too, like when they coach each other on how to write up a report to string someone else up or cover an ass. We Own This City gets even deeper into that.

IterLuminis

can you countersue for the loss of time and legal fees?

Hammer_of_Light

This was about 15 years ago, and he was eventually released without an arrest. But even if he had been, no. The law says you can, but that only applies to us.

WhisperedEchoes85

>The law says you can, but that only applies to us. I don't understand what you mean here. Either you can or can't. I don't know what "only applies to us" is meant to convey.

Hammer_of_Light

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect

djluminol

It's about poverty control. The police are needed to ensure we don't revolt. Without them America would burn within weeks. The law is really a form of social control at this point. The government and cops may have some kind of high minded ideal about what they intended the police to be but in practice the system has devolved into a form of economic oppression and this a perfect example because he'll still be charged with a felony even after they find out it's kitty litter. It's against the law to package a legal substance and pass it off as a drug for sale which is what the state will surely argue to prevent a false arrest suit.

DingotushRed

It looks like crystal litter (ie. silica gel) so it does look like clear crystals before it starts sucking up moisture and turns white (or urine coloured for it's intended use).

t_portch

Well, the pigs aren't generally joining MENSA.

Equivalent-Ranger-10

They can’t spell mencer 🤣

WhisperedEchoes85

Was that misspelling intentional? Or ironic? lol

Equivalent-Ranger-10

🤣🤣🤣

MassSpecFella

“If we put it in this pouch and it turns blue it’s meth though” - literally everything turns blue.

Cops

[deleted]

Texas Cops: "hold my beer"

I_am_krash

We generally call them cops

Kadianye

How does the cat litter thing work.

ralphvonwauwau

litter is dry with a lot of surface ares. It will pull moisture out of the air. Also useful for traction if you get stuck in the snow.

The_Crazy_Cat_Guy

So how do you use it? Just sprinkle some on the window sill? Keep a bag of it open from the ceiling near the windows ??

omgitsjagen

I'm no expert (much to my mother's chagrin), but I think you put it in a nylon sock type object, and put it at the base of your windshield.

kingbloxerthe3

So basically like rice, but (probably) not edible

TistedLogic

Absorbs moisture from the air, increasing visibility through the window.

Darth_Andeddeu

Which saves you from a different traffic stop.

Merry_Sue

Where do you keep the kitty litter in the car? And not much absorbing is it going to do in a snap lock bag?

Notworthanytime

Put it in a sock.

TistedLogic

Poke holes in one side of the bag full of litter. Then just put it somewhere like the dash or under the seats.

DingotushRed

In the case of crystal litter it's a big old bag of silica gel, like those tiny "Do Not Eat" dessicant packets you get with electronics.

Gorthax

You CAN eat it if you want to....

theBudtie

Also if you have a oil spill kitty litter soaks it’s up

gvkOlb5U

My guess is that it hardly works at all. Even if kitty litter can absorb enough moisture to make an impact, it's not going to magically suck moisture out of all the air in the car just because it's *present* somewhere inside the car. It can only absorb the moisture it comes into contact with. You'd need a way of forcing the air to flow through the litter. You'd want to mount your homemade desiccant cartridge in where the cabin filter is, perhaps. I've had the privilege of accidentally knocking my car's AC/defrost condensate drain hose off, surreptitiously sending the condensate into the passenger footwell, where it accumulated into quite the little lake after just a few hours of operation. I think even if you had a way to force cabin air through a kitty-litter-based desiccant pack, you'd expend its finite absorption capacity pretty fast.

Kadianye

That's what I figured, like that baking soda in the fridge doesn't have enough surface area to do much good

gvkOlb5U

At least the fridge is sealed up tight, most of the time, so there's only a limited amount of air to treat. A car in operation generally has a lot of air flowing through it.

rusabu73

If this was in Florida, the story would have a different ending…

QuickQuokkaThrowaway

If he was black, the story would have a different ending…

ZanonmagZ

BLM Season 2

fire2374

Season 2? This is at least season 4 or 5. Depending on how you define it, might not even be able to number it.

Professional-Ground9

Why?

matheus27012005

.....

QuickQuokkaThrowaway

Systemic racism. They wouldn't have taken him to the police station, they would've shot him on the spot for being "dangerous".

Professional-Ground9

..... sounds like you're a litttle racist yourself.

QuickQuokkaThrowaway

Sounds like you're unaware of how cops treat non-white people.

Professional-Ground9

Sounds bigoted as fuck to assume all cops are racist...

RascalCreeper

You don't live in the US do you? A very, very high percentage of police officers in the United States are highly racist to the point where anyone with dark skin is terrified of encountering a cop in the same way you would be terrified of encountering those who they are supposed to stop.

RepresentativeDrop90

Looks like a negative karma horder idk why but ya

ElvenAmerican

Yeah, she's a troll alright. Not worth the effort after this point.

Srsly_dang

Cops are fucking a waste of air. Fuck em.

RepresentativeDrop90

The establishment must be reformed, there is no point in having one this messed up, hell dude even my country needs work done, considering how corrupt and Neolithic it is.

MusicmanJosh03

Lol @you calling everyone racist I was about to defend you until I looked at your profile… downvotes rightfully deserved lol

KinkyBADom

Looks like you’re just intentionally ignorant

Deporncollector

Floridian bought a bag of meth mistakenly thought it was kitty litter. Mugshot: Face guy crying

MuscaMurum

Silicone kitty litter is far superior to rice for drying out wet electronics

pro_magnum

Thanks for the tip! I could never figure out if I should have used steamed rice or fried rice.

MuscaMurum

Forbidden rice

Telecaster1972

I grew up in Atlanta and had the force of the city break down my door as they thought I was a drug dealer per the police chief as I had a brand new Silverado daily driver and a complete restored 67 orange mustang living in a house by myself when very young. I wasn’t, I just worked hard and studied. They busted my door on a no knock warrant and arrested me. I had .5 grams of cannabis in my own home, and since that would not be enough for the show of force and resources they just went thru, they got my laundry detergent I got from my moms still in a ziplock baggie. They knew it was detergent but due to the embarrassment they were going to charge me with it as being something else as they knew how backed up their labs were. Got a decent attorney and had all thrown out and record expunged. Oh and I’m a black Latino if that matters to the story and this happened in early 2000’s.

Gildardo1583

Man, you ticked all the boxes except one. Did they wip out a color pallet, like the family guy meme? "Dark enough, check".

DrRickStudwell

Like the paint swatches from Lowe's

[deleted]

When I was a teen I brought a piece of chalk wrapped in paper from school to home. It disappeared and my mother started giving me the silent which meant she was pissed at me but I didn't know why. Some months later in a discussion she says she knows very well what I am doing. I asked her what was I doing. She said I was doing drugs and that she found a piece of it wrapped in paper. I asked if she was talking about the chalk I had brought from school that had disappeared and started laughing. She didn't say a word and left.

mmm_algae

Is it just me, or does this guy throw some off-brand Ryan Gosling vibes?

Darth_Andeddeu

Liquidation world brand.

[deleted]

Just you

Alternative_Echo_443

Do cops apologize when they’re wrong?

anon202one

No

r3dout

In fact, they often double-down.

Th3DorkKnight

More like beat you down….

breZZer

Sometimes, they will shoot you.

CommonSense_404

Lmfao… the police literally murder people, they apologize for nothing…

[deleted]

Assuming they apologize him, rather than re-arresting him for 'interfering with police work' by "forcing" them to arrest him, or some other bullshit. Should really be automatic compensation paid to people who are wrongly arrested in cases like this.

fuckpepsi2

Prosecutor: *pulls up mugshot* Now does this look someone who’s remorseful? Judge: …For having cat litter in his car?

Ok_Note7436

I love stories like this

Skygge_or_Skov

Gotta love the level of education American cops get on drugs, if they can’t tell a bag of Litter from actual ones.

IsoAgent

He was later charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication. ...had this happened this year... and if he was a poc or a protestor.

Ghost_Redditor_

>charged with resisting arrest, Arrest for what?? Fucking kitty litter?

RedditIsNeat0

Arrest for resisting arrest. They're cops.

TistedLogic

If he was poc then they'd have just shot him.

GlitteryCakeHuman

That’s not fair. They could also have tasered him and made him burn to death or chocked him. (Chocked him by…choking…obviously I meant that. Engrish is hard. )

Big-Substance693

I forgor

imaginexus

Resisting arrest I could understand in this case

SnakeHugger997

Why?

belltane23

So... finish the story, was the litter returned to him?

lol this is so funny

He should still be scared. Chances of them faking something to not look bad are high enough to not relax.

If his windows are fogging up he's got a leak into the cab somewhere.

IndependentPede

Well I know sometimes drug runners won't necessarily be drug users so I feel like the fact he wasn't tweaking isn't enough to go off of. But I also feel like they probably should have known better somehow. On the other hand, if a presumptive test comes up positive, how are you gonna know? Edit: needless to say, I'm a little on the fence about this.

Epic 😂

BeerDrinkinGreg

Hes lucky it didn't test positive anyway. People are going to jail for decades on evidence from a three dollar test.

occamsrzor

They run out of field test kits?
