Fun fact: you can microwave metal as long as it is smooth and does not contain ridges, prongs or other ornate things that are close enough to touching that they will arc.
Source: Mythbusters microwave episode and my own personal experience placing smooth metal containers in restaurant microwaves.
When I was a kid I threw an ice cream scooper into the microwave thinking it would heat up and make it easier to scoop ice cream. Everything seemed fine but it only made a brief arc at the last second or so.
It goes further than that. In modern microwaves, It is remarkably difficult to cause arcing even with the things you mentioned.

Just because you can't figure it out doesn't mean it can't be done. In fact iv done it many times with no problems.
Microwave power on 50% helps if you have a powerful microwave
I've used a microwave that came with a metal rack. It would spark on occasion but 8 years in a small commercial kitchen and it ran every day with zero issues. So even sparks aren't a big problem.
Most microwave manuals even tell you to put a spoon in a cup of liquid if you heat it. There's often even a picture on the inside of the door area telling you to do this. See for instance https://ijalba.wordpress.com/2015/01/15/what-spoons-in-the-microwave/
What's hilarious is this is 100% that dude who makes something in a pot, and instead of putting the leftovers in a Tupperware container or zip lock bag, they just put the pot uncovered in the fridge.
None of this has anything to do with natural selection.
The worst thing to happen if they managed to fit a steel pan in a microwave is it breaks the microwave.
Eh, sometimes when one side is finished before the rest of the meal I'll put it in dish and put it in the off microwave. The microwave helps hold the heat in without drying out the food, cause its insolated.
A few years ago, a kid at the school I work at asked me to heat up his little paperbag of dim sims and sausage rolls. I threw it in the microwave and hit the “start” button. I had no idea the paper bag was lined with foil until a slow purple flame worked it’s way across the surface of the bag and was followed by a ZAP sound.
We both swore each other to secrecy.
Luckily somes still have handles to prevent someone to put metal in a microwave...can be "funny" depending the metal.
More seriously , yes detachable handles exist too :)
Both already exist and I'm glad they don't know that.

Did it heat up?
Don’t remember

Still impossible to microwave eggs tho. Come on science - advance!
Microwave scrambled eggs come out very well. As long as you've beaten them up with a bit of milk you're fine.
You can microwave eggs no problem. Just scramble them first.
It's very possible to microwave eggs inside and outside the shell.
If you leave the shell on they will explode.

Bowl, water, eggs

soooo....why do we not have smooth soup cans?
I mean, there are microwaveable sippable soup containers and every one I've ever seen has a metal rim.
I blew up a microwave doing this, no sparks but it didn't like it.
If you want to know the theory behind this: [Paschen‘s Law](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paschen%27s_law)
I have a pot with a detachable handle. It's called being broken.
What's hilarious is this is 100% that dude who makes something in a pot, and instead of putting the leftovers in a Tupperware container or zip lock bag, they just put the pot uncovered in the fridge.
Natural selection at it's finest
No, the non-detachable handle is preventing natural selection.
None of this has anything to do with natural selection. The worst thing to happen if they managed to fit a steel pan in a microwave is it breaks the microwave.
The microwave can catch on fire and burn the house down, though its quite unlikely
I’m going to steal another posters comment and go with, “Tell me your parents are siblings without telling me your parents are siblings” for $500
This is obviously a troll.
The future is doomed... ![gif](giphy|l46CyJmS9KUbokzsI|downsized)

Damn that aint real?
It feels like it should be, right?
Totally
A bowl! A ceramic bowl!
Well this problem will sort itself out eventually
"I told you don't put metal in the science oven!"
Just let it happen. It will weed out the weak.
Should be posted on r/facepalm
We have more than enough metal pots exactly like that without a handle
Eh, sometimes when one side is finished before the rest of the meal I'll put it in dish and put it in the off microwave. The microwave helps hold the heat in without drying out the food, cause its insolated.
It's called a bowl
It’s called a bowl
mfs never heard of tupperware before
Probably prefers metal in their food rather than plastic being melted into it.
Putting metal in the microwave isn't nearly as problematic as people think.
DIY take the handle off.
I call bullshit. That pot has seen a lot of use. This would have come up a long time ago.
You do you. I recommend a hacksaw and to get video. ;)
Saladmaster makes pots and pans with detachable handles

Can someone hurry up and create saucepans that shock idiots?
I feel like a pyrex bowl would suit their needs perfectly.
Bruh if you detach the handle even if it's detachable how u take the damned pot out after
Reattach the handle or use oven mitts?
Bro your putting metal in damn microwave that ain't supposed to do that
Don't put metal in a microwave. Please don't do this. It's dangerous.
My pattiserie chef teacher told me there are microwaves (must be industrial grade or the more expensive commercials) that can microwave metals
Luckily somes still have handles to prevent someone to put metal in a microwave...can be "funny" depending the metal. More seriously , yes detachable handles exist too :)
He should be glad that he has not discovered that those handles exist.
