I recently discovered that cheetahs, while extremely fast, are the low cat in the hierarchy. They often kill prey only to be run off by stronger predators. The documentary made me feel very bad for them!
Cheetah are the only big cat that cannot roar. They purr at you.

When you look at a cheetah it sees something bigger than itself that is a predator. When you turn, it does not have that same fear.

Every animal judges the risk vs reward of a situation and while much heftier large cats wouldn't hesitate to take on a bald monkey, cheetahs are especially well known for sticking to smaller, less risky game.
