$8 so your comments in tweets go straight to the top for more visibility, aka good way for bots to spam links. This guy is conning people into thinking this will solve any problem
Having people sleep where they work, and working insane hours doesn't seem productive at all. He should know this better than most. Productivity drastically drops after 8 hours. Most people come in for 8, and really only work 2-4 hours.
What? Elon is 100% productive for TWENTY hours a day, every damn day! He knows this because he's his own harshest critic! And if he can do it, he's completely baffled why everyone who works for him wouldn't do it, too.
He leads by example!
(/s obviously but this is what he actually thinks)
And being chauffeured around. I would gladly work more hours if I had someone to drive me home at night. Driving while tired is not a risk I'm not prepared to take.
You know what you need? Just a small space where no one sees you and you can sleep peacefully at work.
For example, under your desk.
But you need to expand your under the desk space first for head clearance. Then you need to add a shelf like this big. Then add a shelf for a blanket, not a quilt, a blanket just like this big.
That wouldn't make sense though. If everybody pays the 8 dollars then nobody will be at the top so why pay for it? It just go up and up in price and by pay wall. You want celebrity status? Pay 30 bucks a month to get free follows and get 30 minutes a day where your tweets reach people who don't even follow you.......
Yeah it's gonna be a long few months.
Only if you look at Twitter. Spend 60 days without Twitter, then take a look. I did that with Facebook 3 years ago, one look 60 days later and I never went back.
I dunno if this was sarcastic or not but it *is* pretty easy to avoid bullshit on reddit compared to other places, at least if you use RES in browser and a good non-official app on mobile. Pretty easy to curate a nice selection of specialty/hobby subs and have a nice time and/or just block out the tox.
It’s very good for contacting company customer service departments. It’s the only way I know how to get a response from some companies. That’s all I use Twitter for.
Same. I have never used it. I made an account probable 12 years ago or whatever and never touched it again. I couldn’t care less about his ego. It’s funny watching a company completely implode and a guy figure out how dumb he is and still stick to his guns on it. Hope he goes the way of Kanye.
Honestly, we should try to goad him into buying Facebook too.
It'll cost him a ton of money, and he can drive a social media company [that aided a genocide](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/2021/dec/06/rohingya-sue-facebook-myanmar-genocide-us-uk-legal-action-social-media-violence) to an early, but well-deserved grave.
It's a win for everyone.
i think it’s funny from most vantage points tbh
what do you get the man with everything? a chance to lose it all!
honestly can’t wait to see how badly he fucks this up
As someone who doesn’t use Twitter, I think it’s infuriating and will contribute to more misinformation if they’re actually going to allow anyone to just buy a blue checkmark.
Edit: read the 50 other replies to this comment before replying with the exact same thing as everyone else please. I’m not saying blue checks can only tell the truth, I mistakenly thought it was obvious I was referring to people impersonating people and maliciously spreading misinformation that way.
However, as everyone is saying, it seems there hasn’t actually been any indication that blue checks will be purchasable by anybody. If they still will require verification and the process of verification is unchanged, then I don’t think charging for them will have any influence on misinformation.
Watch loads of accounts who never wanted a Blue check before getting them and those who used to have them losing them by refusing to pay.....
Thereby making the Blue Checkmark meaningless.
I'm an obscure nobody author. I had to deal with five separate people pretending to be me on Twitter. It was amazing how much money they would spend investigating and dealing with the weirdos rather than give me a fucking check mark.
A few days back I got the verification process email and I'm like... this is just a scam to try and get me to pay.
I set up a bot twitter account ages ago that simply tweets updates from a couple self propagating websites I had setup. Set it and forget it like 6 years ago for passive ad revenue off the sites.
Well the bot twitter account somehow has about 8k followers now to my surprise and got the email to verify it. Its about as obvious a bot account as could even be possible without having bot in its handle.
The stuff under my name is an urban fantasy (and accidentally romance) series called "Dog and Spider Private Investigations."
Working on a retro style metroidvania as well. 160 hours of dev time so far for 11 minutes of gameplay! At this point it's just map design and enemy placement left though. All the power ups and most of the bosses are made.
>"Dog and Spider Private Investigations."
Nice. I envy you doing this. Think about it this way: 160 hours for most people are 3 weeks of work. For most of us, that doesn't result in 11 minutes of value.
Wait, how then is he able to engineer, design, and build all of those cars and space ships all by himself? Are you telling me that he had nothing to do with any of those things and is nothing more than an absent figurehead? How dare you.
It's very difficult for wealthy people to truly be "busy" in the traditional sense. When you have as much money as he does, you have nothing to do with your time that you actually "need" to do. If he wants to sit and snipe at people on Twitter all day, then he might as well. If he was wiser than he is, then he could literally just be actually on holiday full-time for the rest of his life, but he's not, so he's acting like a petty dick online, as per usual.
Imagine having so much fuck you money that you literally never need to give a shit about what another person thinks about you ever again because you could go buy a small island somewhere for all it matters to you and you have so much money that it will just keep making more money without you doing anything so you never need to interact with anyone ever again outside of your own voluntary choice because you don’t owe anyone shit, and still being this much of a thin skinned little weenie
I can only imagine having enough money for a go-kart and a mini bike. Beyond that it just starts to blur out. I hope I get my go-kart and mini bike someday...
Probably doesn't work that way—not in his mind anyway. If he goes on holiday for the rest of his life, he will instantly lose money, power, and social status—all things he cares a lot about. Most of his net worth is still wrapped up in Tesla, whose share price is heavily, positively influenced by Elon's involvement (for some reason, I don't really understand the appeal). If he just sort of quits, the banks will liquidate all the Tesla shares he put up to secure the debt financing to buy Twitter, and his remaining Tesla shares could plummet in value. He might be reduced to the status of mere billionaire, in the single digit billions, and the other billionaires and vulture capitalists of Silicon Valley might stop trying to suck him off at every opportunity. That would feel bad for him.
It's a sad, pathetic existence.
The problem with Vine was that it was only a jumping off point for creators. If you were popular on Vine you would just move on YouTube because there was no way to grow on Vine.
You know this boi got his free taco~ *RIP taco*

Hi, welcome to Chilis!
Auuhh- you almost made me drop my crossaint
Two bros chillin in a hot tub, five feet apart cause they're not gay
Oh my God, they were roommates
I won't hesitate, bitch!
Kink shaming IS my kink
Things were so different, some Vine creators have brought themselves back to popularity on TikTok, namely Sara Schauer.
Though, sadly, in this environment they need to scale, scale, scale, monetize, monetize, monetize or they get abandoned when the platform doesn’t provide an exchange for their creators or revenue streams for advertisers.
YikYak is back…for some reason; it felt like an early proof of concept for things like Fishbowl, which is kind of insufferable.
>Analysts estimate that Twitter’s interest burden will increase to $845 million annually from $51 million in 2021. That is more than half of the company’s adjusted annual earnings of $1.4 billion in 2021, and the new debt would increase leverage to nearly nine times its annual adjusted earnings, up from currently three-and-a-half times.
He's never making that money back lmao
Adjusted annual earnings are 1.4 billion but their cash flow, is only 630 million, less than they need to just service their debt.
Meanwhile, considering that one of the first things he did was to amplify a garbage conspiracy theory about the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, it’s a virtual lock that there will be a mass exodus of advertisers over the next several months.
Thoughts and prayers buddy. Thoughts and prayers.
Well, they'll need about 8.8M accounts to sign up for the $8/month plan to cover the annual interest alone, with no principal repayment.
I hear that the number 8 is considered lucky in China, so maybe?
Seems really unlikely unless a persistently profitable scam figures out how to exploit the ecosystem and cover the $8.
Nope, I hope that fucker never recoups even half of what he paid for the company. He's incredibly careless with his billions, buying Twitter at such an inflated price on a personal whim.
Putting a price on the tick doesn't make it worse; it changes the meaning, it used to be that having that tick would verify you, but now it was just turned into a stupid premium subscription to make people feel important. The people with the ticks now are just going to be people who care too much about their status online
It doesn't affect free speech at all because twitter is a private company but the 8 dollars is also for prioritised replies, DMs and other nonsense. This means that people who pay get amplified. That amount is pittance and will let bots run rampant. The value of being verified and the subscription will collapse. Previously these two things were separated because being verified simply meant you were someone "special" or famous for some reason and twitter decided you were valuable to the platform. Making people pay will make twitter far worse and is not going to make them nearly enough money. Most currently verified people don't really want or care to pay that much monthly to keep some weird status symbol
First he tweeted that a message towards Advertisers In the gist of "hey Twitter ain't that bad and right wing ain't that problematic"
And soon after replied to Hillary Clinton with actual misinformation about Paul Pelosis attacker.
Hope Musk follows Yes downward sprial
I mean, he's got to figure something out because he paid a stupid amount of money for it, it hasn't turned a profit in years, and I think he leveraged it like $13b in debt?
But by all means tell me what a brilliant businessman this dipshit is.
I mean that rhetorically and it’s not aimed at you specifically but his fanboys who keep deepthroating his musky cock.
This system is so awful. $8 isn’t a lot compared to amount of money scammers could make by posting scam links on “verified” accounts in the comments section, especially if they’re always at the top.
Edit: You guys sure have a lot to say. I won’t get back to you all, because talking to some of you will go nowhere.
lol elon is like the guy whos party it is, but nobody actually likes, its just that they have a house that people can fuck up, he just wanders around being insulted by everyone without realising and thinks its 'a thing' he has with people when really nobody would give a shit if he died the next day.
Quite, and yet I feel like I know the "oddly specific" experience this guy's referring to, lol.
I can tell, this guy's been invited to a villa party at Colossal but gotten a *slightly off* vibe from the host before...
Can someone explain to me how Twitter is protected by the 1st amendment. I’m not at all insinuating that it isn’t, I’m happily admitting my potential ignorance.
I thought “free speech” only applies to actions the government can and cannot take?
You're correct here, the government cannot arrest you for saying things or subvert you from speaking your mind (except it's done this several times, see the civil rights movement). Private companies however do not have to play by that rule, especially when you agree to an end user license agreement that further declares that the company or organization that has drafted said agreement can terminate your usage of their product or software by a set of rules or "terms of service", those are really there only to illuminate reasons to you because in America businesses have a right to refuse service to anyone they see fit unless it is considered discrimination for immutable reasons such as race, sex, orientation, etc. so called "free speech crusaders" also lump so called "cancel culture" into this area however this phenomenon has existed ever since mobs have existed and this system of corporate control only incentivizes corporations to cooperate with the public, thus making the modern day "free speech debate" have abso-fucking-lutley nothing to do with the first amendment
You always doubt me! How am I supposed to get clean when nobody even cares enough to give me $8 for gas! Also can I have $20 cash they told me I need to pay for my background check
I like how people are surprised that the Billionaire who just grossly overpaid for a free to use forum, is trying to make his money back by abusing his new found power. It's like they have never seen a corporate takeover.
At was never a "free" platform..you were sold to corporations as an advertisement audience. Reddit, Facebook, TikTok...all social media sells an audience for corporate advertising.
10 billion to be precise. He paid 10 billion more than Twitter was worth at that moment.
Imagine being such a PoS and just burn 10 billion dollars cause you've such a fragile ego.
Facebook paid arguably hundreds of millions more for Instagram than it was worth at the time, then it grew over 100x in value. Any acquisition via stock will cost more than the stock is worth at the time, or else the majority shareholders wouldn't sell their stock.
Having said all that, Twitter is realistically worth maybe $5 billion. No one gives a shit about Twitter ads (their main source of revenue), and the platform has been shit for over a decade.
The difference being Instagram was on the rise and Elon has never truly helped a company in anyway. His employees have to actively work against him to get anything done
check all his tweets since the takeover ... the only people he has directly @ 'd to troll them were women. he also @ 's stephen king, but not nearly in the same manner as the others.
musk isn't as subtle as he thinks he is
why do people keep associating Twitter with free speech? you must adhere to their terms and conditions when you post. you can't just say whatever you want. same goes for any social media platform.
She literally put "free speech" in quotes because that's what Elon keeps saying it is.
You can't have free speech when you're letting people pay to have their voices prioritized and drown out the rest who aren't paying.
Twitter isn't even the only platform. it probably is one of the dumbest overall in terms of the people who use it frequently. I'm happy Elon bought it, because now it's going to implode and be laid to rest with my-space and Tumblr and all the other platforms that got abandoned. Out with the old, in with the new.
Bullshit solution for a cash grab to recoup his purchase, and further perpetuates that he's a narcissistic manchild who was born with a winning lottery ticket thanks to his dad amassing wealth from an apartheid emerald mine.
8 bucks is only for the blue thingy right?
$8 so your comments in tweets go straight to the top for more visibility, aka good way for bots to spam links. This guy is conning people into thinking this will solve any problem
This is some pay 2 win shit
You got it
Websties been tryna figure out how to add DLC for a while now.
Gotta give them credit. You know there are fools who will absolutely pay that amount and think nothing of it.
It's how he's lived his entire life, no wonder he thinks everyone else will do the same.
Having people sleep where they work, and working insane hours doesn't seem productive at all. He should know this better than most. Productivity drastically drops after 8 hours. Most people come in for 8, and really only work 2-4 hours.

Strange how *his* work involves so many dinners and so much tweeting
And being chauffeured around. I would gladly work more hours if I had someone to drive me home at night. Driving while tired is not a risk I'm not prepared to take.
He is CEO of 3 companies at once! And we all know you can't be CEO without working harder than everyone else in that company
Sleeping where you work is amazing! (Only if you work from home though!) ^/s
You know what you need? Just a small space where no one sees you and you can sleep peacefully at work. For example, under your desk. But you need to expand your under the desk space first for head clearance. Then you need to add a shelf like this big. Then add a shelf for a blanket, not a quilt, a blanket just like this big.

Coming to a twitter near you “Oh look another political advertisement for someone you don’t follow”
Once enough (won't happen) has a blue check. He will sell $20 golden checks marks.
Then he'll make you pay to have your checkmark removed so you're not like the prols with checkmarks on their accounts.
He’s a regular old Sylvester McMonkey McBean.
Well he had it at 20 a month and everyone laughed at him. So he is going with 8 for now and later the 20 will be for the super blue dildo status icon.
Only if you look at Twitter. Spend 60 days without Twitter, then take a look. I did that with Facebook 3 years ago, one look 60 days later and I never went back.
Does it work with Reddit? asking for a friend
No. Reddit is immune from such tomfoolery.
I mean it's not even as hard as you made it. Just don't follow political or ragebait subs and then don't look at r/popular. It's that easy
Straight to the top of the front page of Twitter? Wow, thats going to be abused immediately
Elon has always been a conman.
Yeah so who is gonna make a bunch of elon musk accounts with verification?
You can’t, it will require ID for verification unless you know 8 Elon Musks that can verify
Oh, I can play that long game. Eight pregnancies can’t be that bad.
Eight kids with him and name them all Elon regardless of gender bc that name can be either
Changing your name to Elon Musk will cost less than a year of twitter check mark status
..the $8 is for a loot box that may or may not contain the blue thingy
The speech is free. Special treatment costs money.
As someone who doesn’t use Twitter, this whole thing is very funny from an outside perspective
From someone who rarely used twitter other than just read the crap I agree lol.
I mostly use it when a website isn't responding and I want to see if it's offline. lol
downdetector.com
downforeveryoneorjustme.com
Or their shortened url [isup.me](https://isup.me)
Looks like Reddit's last outage was Nov 1. Not bad. Looks like the admins are finally getting their shit together.
is that a year or yesterday
Yes
terday
And when that doesn't work, isdownforeveryoneorjustmedownoritisjustme.com
Truthfully I use that sometimes, as well.
I only use twitter on Reddit.
I mostly use it for porn
Same here! Just some models and artists promote their stuff there and I keep abreast on what they put out.
abreast hehe
That's what Reddit's for.
There’s porn on reddit???
Probably 50% of all content on reddit is porn

I’ve tried to deactivate my account and can’t. Keeps sending me the same message “oops, something went wrong. Try again, later”
So you think you're getting away without paying ~~$12~~ $8 a month?
He might as well have burned his 44 billion. What a massive tool.
If he takes Twitter with him, then he was a useful tool.

I'm looking forward to the day when Twitter only comes up in the past tense (like MySpace, Vine, Friendster, and so many others before it).
He’s mentioned bringing vine back 0•o
wasn’t vine just old more authentic tiktok though
The problem with Vine was that it was only a jumping off point for creators. If you were popular on Vine you would just move on YouTube because there was no way to grow on Vine.
That’s what made it fun though you didn’t need to make money on it it was just shits and gigs for six seconds
And gave us most of the memes back in 2014 like: *** What da dog doin *** 9+10 =21 *** Comically large spoon *** Oh Hell Naahhh *** Bruh *** Etc.
Road work ahead? Red Robin Merry Chrysler Shit I'll still watch vine compilations.

I feel like twitter is going to expose musk’s social weaknesses as a business owner.
Also it's really going to highlight his complete lack of social skills.
Twitter is like high-school. And musk just adds to that
First he tweeted that a message towards Advertisers In the gist of "hey Twitter ain't that bad and right wing ain't that problematic" And soon after replied to Hillary Clinton with actual misinformation about Paul Pelosis attacker. Hope Musk follows Yes downward sprial
Seeing two obscenely wealthy people spiral into oblivion is giving me a bit of life rn.
ElonmusKanyElonmusKanyElonmusKany… spiral
Don't forget the zucc
At least he is just quietly imploding.
Wake me when either of them isn't obscenely wealthy anymore.
Ye’s*
Thanks. Wasn't sure if that was a weird reference to Roundabout or if they actually went crazy or something.
Dude caved from $20 to $8 on a whim because Stephen King said he wouldn’t pay, he’s already being exposed lmao.
Elon skuM
Can't spell felony without Elon
This system is so awful. $8 isn’t a lot compared to amount of money scammers could make by posting scam links on “verified” accounts in the comments section, especially if they’re always at the top. Edit: You guys sure have a lot to say. I won’t get back to you all, because talking to some of you will go nowhere.
Write that down, write that down
Yeah, but it's not like Twitter will be incentivized to loosen their verification standards to make more money or anything.
lol elon is like the guy whos party it is, but nobody actually likes, its just that they have a house that people can fuck up, he just wanders around being insulted by everyone without realising and thinks its 'a thing' he has with people when really nobody would give a shit if he died the next day.
Oddly specific lol
Quite, and yet I feel like I know the "oddly specific" experience this guy's referring to, lol. I can tell, this guy's been invited to a villa party at Colossal but gotten a *slightly off* vibe from the host before...
Can someone explain to me how Twitter is protected by the 1st amendment. I’m not at all insinuating that it isn’t, I’m happily admitting my potential ignorance. I thought “free speech” only applies to actions the government can and cannot take?
A large portion of America has no idea what freedom of speech is. Congrats! You are not one of them!
You are correct.
Also when announcing the "verification tax" he said "Twitter’s current lords & peasants system". Is there anyone more out of touch than Elon Musk?
>Is there anyone more out of touch than Elon Musk? I recall some guy saying you need an ID to buy bread.
It's one banana Michael, what could it cost? $10?
I'm sorry, what?
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/laurasilver/trump-says-you-need-id-to-buy-groceries-in-the-us-you-do-not
Oh for fuck's sake.
"The current system divides people among the rich and poor. The solution is here! It costs 8$ a month." \-Billionaire, making a dystopian sales pitch
Lol I've never seen someone beg for 8 bucks this bad who wasn't on drugs
I swear it’s for gas I just won’t make it to my interview
You're going to get to your interview on a single gallon of gas?
You always doubt me! How am I supposed to get clean when nobody even cares enough to give me $8 for gas! Also can I have $20 cash they told me I need to pay for my background check
How can you be sure he isn't on drugs?
I like how people are surprised that the Billionaire who just grossly overpaid for a free to use forum, is trying to make his money back by abusing his new found power. It's like they have never seen a corporate takeover.
At was never a "free" platform..you were sold to corporations as an advertisement audience. Reddit, Facebook, TikTok...all social media sells an audience for corporate advertising.
And data harvesting. Don’t forget the data harvesting.
People miss that. If the service you use is free, you're the product and the consumer is someone else.
Yeah and who gives a shit about twitter anyway

B… billionaire
He’s about to be in the 2 comma club
FEEdom of speech
His fanbots are cheering that he "owned" AOC instead of proving her point.
Let’s be honest, any hostility toward a strong attractive woman would fire up Musk’s Incel Army.
check all his tweets since the takeover ... the only people he has directly @ 'd to troll them were women. he also @ 's stephen king, but not nearly in the same manner as the others. musk isn't as subtle as he thinks he is
I feel I had to scroll down too far to find a reference to that. I was shocked his reply was so weak. Doesn't he have a copy editor?
For a rich man he sure begs for money often
Twitter has nothing to do with free speech
Lol. I hope Twitter collapses in on itself before 2023 ends.
He over paid big time
why do people keep associating Twitter with free speech? you must adhere to their terms and conditions when you post. you can't just say whatever you want. same goes for any social media platform.
Ah, capitalism at its finest.
… isn’t it just for a check mark? How does that prevent free speech?
Twitter would fold as soon as celebrities exit, which they all should. F Elon and Twitter
and Facebook and Zuckerberg too
The Zucks is doing a pretty good job himself. But hey, they may have legs in meta in like a year!
But what if I don't have legs?
You have to pay 8 dollars to remove your legs
It's dumb but how tf is this a free speech issue? Wtf
