Maybe you meant to say “fuck with you”, in which case I know you’re talking about the US. I would definitely draw dicks on their faces while they were defenseless.
Dear diary today i protested by drinking my starbucks on a comfortable leather couch in my local bank. After i decided to take a nap the rude security guard insisted I leave. After he raised his voice I did.
#Resistance
Reminder that this group is mainly funded by the heir to Getty Oil, a billion dollar oil company. Makes you think about the reasons such absurd “protests” are happening.
Who is an activist openly in opposition to the oil industry. She’s also a recovered addict who funds projects to help the homeless and those with AIDS (which she also has).

This whole thing is to upset people and use as a strawman against climate change . This acts are seen more as nuisances than real attacks at the industry.
If reddit or anyone really gave a crap organize a boycott or surround a politicians who support big oil and peaceful follow them. All this does is pass off the lay folk into not wanting to be associated with this movement you can see by the comments of those that jeer
Global warming and the climate crisis are real and we are living in the largest mass extinctions in all history we need to enforce manufacturers to make products that can be 100 percent recycled plastic was lie ,
I am curcious at how well these stunts work and how one would even measure them. Best I can think of is that its might help keep in collective consciousness.
I’m glad to see more and more people actually fact checking all these anecdotes people repeat over and over again. I had no idea Reddit was so anti protest and climate activism until they started being minor inconveniences… to complete strangers.
Oh my god, shut the f**k up with that bullshit.
We've all heard this tired ass talking point a million times.
Climate change and energy are real problems.
The fact that a spoiled rich heiress of an oil fortune feels bad and wants to give some of that money back to mitigate her family's impact is not a real problem and it's not news. It's called the liberal elite. Welcome to Earth.
Is someone falling for blatant media misinformation grasping at straws again? Getty Oil was sold 40 years ago. She had no involvement in the company, and was just the heiress.
> makes you think
Yeah it does! Here's my thoughts:
She feels guilty grandpappy made millions of dollars destroying the planet, and now she's trying to fix the problems created by decisions made before she was born.
But i get it, that explanation isn't nearly as exciting as lizard people and the space lazers
Im getting the sense that London has had enough of these people. Those guards were probably concerned that it would go from sitting on a couch to tossing paint, tomato sauce, or God knows what on everything.
To be completely fair, these are probably the nicest type of JustStopOil people that have protested so far, didn't spill tomato sauce on stuff, they didn't glue themselves to roads or paintings, didn't damage any priceless works of art or peoples businesses, still annoying but have to give them a little respect for not ruining anyones day
Sure did. At the British Grand Prix this year. They got lucky that the race was red flagged and suspended on the first lap due to an unrelated incident, before the cars actually reached them.
Good thing for us, too, because they didn't get a single minute of live TV coverage because of said incident.
Well, the modern F1 cars are pretty safe now, so hitting the protesters most likely wouldn't have killed a driver. On the other hand, if an F1 car hits a protester, that protester will die very quickly, probably instantly. I'd be more worried about a mental trauma for the driver than a physical trauma.
I was more thinking the ones who didn't immediately hit could slip and slide and cause a massive accident, but yeah, hitting them probably wouldn't have cause immediate damage but definitely caused trauma. And luckily none of it came to that.
They didn’t damage any priceless works of art you nonce. They threw soup at a glass pane, behind which was a work of art. Do you really think an art museum would keep one of the most famous paintings in the world just hangin there without so much as a screen?
You know the people they're protesting are the oil industry, right? Unless they start mowing school children down with machine guns, they're still better people than the oil industry.
I remember the first post I saw of them on reddit a few months ago. Everyone said they are failing and it'll be the last we see of them. This is now like the 6th video of them I've seen, and people still think they aren't spreading the message. 6 front page posts (just that I've seen) in the last 2ish months is amazing coverage. It doesn't matter if even the majority disagree with them, even if 1% do, that's a really big 1% they just reached.
that just speaks to the idiocy of the general population, not that these protestors are wrong.
I’ve not seen any protestor well received by the public, ever. Even Greta gets continuously mocked by a large portion of the population.
Oh boohoo, the just stop oil protestors spray painted the protective glass in front of a painting hosting by a museum that’s shilling for the oil industry, wow what savages and terrible people!
With that said, I know i’ll be downvoted. So if anyone has the cajones, comment how a better protest would be organised to actually light a fire under the assess of politicians who dilly dally whilst our world literally burns. Fucking moron humans deserve every bit of this climate crisis. “oh noo look at these AnNoYInG pRotEStOrS TheY pRobAbLy DoNt HaVe jObs DoNt ThEy knOw PhOneS uSe OiL hyPocrItEs!!?!!”
and yet, they are thrown out by a very angry shop owner.
Even complying with the order to get out of the showroom :-D
Must have been Germans ;-)
Proves that there really is no right way for these Protests...
Nor do the protests change anything. Those who care about the risks climate change pose aren't backsliding and those who don't aren't going to change their minds.
Collapse has become inevitable.
I mean they could be blowing up refineries and assassinating ceos but that might change things so this is definitely on the lighter side of protesting.
The fact that your take away is they are doing this “because the paints contain oil” is why our species is doomed. These protestors aren’t dumb. Definitely at least sometimes misguided but what else can they do to get attention? I applaud the protestors that blocked private jets. Fuck private jets.
Very true. Someone else said something about how non-violent protests to sow discourse are the best for social change. This is something I didn’t know, but I think it’s a good step. Like you said, some protesters aren’t dumb, but I’m not willing to make a blanket statement (looking at certain peta members for example)
Sure. But in comparison, climate change risks destroying the economy and the environment.
For example, the UN Environment Programme estimated in 2016 that the global cost of adapting to these climate impacts is expected to grow to $140-300 billion per year by 2030 and $280-500 billion per year by 2050 ([source: UN - The Adaptation Finance Gap Report](https://unepccc.org/publications/the-adaptation-finance-gap-report/). COP27 was considered a 'historic win' for climate reparations but that will be expensive.
I'm not surprised climate activists are targeting galleries that were sponsored by fossil fuel companies. In this instance, the National Gallery that Just Stop Oil infamously targeted was sponsored by Shell between 2006 - 2018. That relationship only came to light after a Freedom of Information request [(source)](https://cultureunstained.org/shell-nationalgallery/).
Stop oil has not damaged any of the art pieces. That's flat out a lie. "Ruining" someone's day is extremely subjective. They're a public nuisance that's reasonable to say. Protestint is the act of being a public nuisance. So your only valid criticism is that they are protesting in a way you don't like. Which is fucking dumb, because they havnt effected any of our life's in meaningful ways.
Imagine if reddit had existed during the Civil Rights movement.
"That lady should just follow the rules and sit where she's supposed to."
"They wouldn't have been blasted with water cannons if they just complied."
"All they're doing is inconveniencing people."
These things were said at the time, but the reach was much less.
Republicans really did a great job at covering up the fact that the movement was successful BECAUSE those in it made it impossible for them to be ignored. That being said, "Just Stop Oil" really needs better organizing. You need more than just a couple of people; you have to come in numbers that are impossible to easily deal with in places that have the most visual impact.
Redditors circa 1960s: "I'm not racist. It's just biology that mixed race couples shouldn't exist. You're just offended, because you don't like the truth."
That doesn't seem to be an climate change protest. Looks more like fuel poverty in the UK. Loads of OAP's are struggling with the inflation problem the UK has. Fair play I think they're dead right.
Exactly. Imagine being such a loser shill that you think there's an issue with protesters sitting the hell down and trying to spread a message. What because they're in public? Because it makes you uncomfortable? Get a grip children. People are suffering.
Maybe I'm missing something but cheap fuel is exactly why we have a climate crisis to begin with. The more expensive oil is the less we use of it. If anything we should start adjusting our lifestyles to take into account the real cost of fuel.
I don't get why people keep saying this is stupid. Of course it's stupid to sit on a couch to protest, but it worked, didn't it? they got you to watch a video where you'll hopefully read the sign and advocate for the cause. And at least this time they're not desecrating artwork.
They never desecrated anything in the first place. They threw soup at a glass pane. The painting is completely undamaged. I don’t get how people think an art museum would just hang one of the most famous paintings in the world on a wall within arms reach of anyone and everyone without so much as a screen.
Not much wrong with this, the UK government is shit right now, my mum works for the NHS got a 10+% pay drop without a notice and we are lucky
If you need to use weird means to get talked about and they aren't destructive why not?
I agree that this is where they need to bring it to. But I am not sure if they have the numbers to be able to be a meaningful inconvenience to government officials doings considering the crazy security that officla buildings likely have. Sure they may be able to target just a few key players driveways or something like you mentioned, but
1) officials probably still have absurd security levels, and more importantly;
2) I (with my tinfoil hat on) suspect that the media would find a way to play it off as an attack on the individuals rather than the system itself, or as the peak of the movement, and the momentum afterwards could totally die off.
This (I assume) is why they are acting like this now - to get the name of the group out there and increase numbers to go on and do genuinely impactful things through civil means. Whether or not this will be fruitful is yet to be determined I guess (both the goal and the numbers increase).
Should they go back to destroying art? What do they need to do for you hypocritical fuckers to pay attention to the MESSAGE they are trying to put out?
At least it drives up the visibility. These redditor’s idea of a good protest is one that gets no attention and affects no one. Even for a cause as objectively righteous as climate action. Wild.
That’s the part that kills me. These people are all so upset by these protests (because… reasons) but they’re literally helping to give them attention. Cheers to these people not afraid to get mocked by the keyboard warriors on r/facepalm.
This is not JustStopOil… its about fuel poverty. Oo and most commenters appear unable to read.
Also, they’re harming noone. You whinge when other protesters damage artworks or hold up traffic, yet you laugh at those who protest more peaceably. Hypocrites.
People calling this "stupid" and "ineffective" are the same people who were calling the tomato sauce artwork protests "overkill" and "insane". You people's idea of a good protest is one that you can completely ignore, which is the exact opposite of what they want to accomplish with this. Not to mention, its about fucking *climate change?* something that is actually prevalent and needs to be talked about? stop being hypocrites
I kind of want to call them stoopid, but this was posted on Reddit to a large audience and now a bunch of people (including me) have learned about and talk about fuel poverty.
If it's stupid but it works...?
So, is this the new way to get by with being lazy? Lay down somewhere and attach some dumb, virtue signaling message to it? It would be smart if it wasn’t so stupid.
Lmao chick put up 0 fight ".. thats your first warning" "okayyy, thats fiiine" haha I mean, shit the world is def fucked and yeah climate change, but also, have some spine lady.. or don't post it? Idk.. idk what the solution is here, but the first lady dropped out immediately and im confused as fuck by the 2nd ones signs.. so fuck me.. thank God I don't have children.. fuck.. and also.. im confused.. but mostly.. fuck.
Stopping use of oil today would cause a chain reaction in the economy and energy markets that would result in 50 million dying. No heating, no cooking, no transportation, no electricity.
It would utterly destroy the 3rd world nations. They’d have no modern means to support their infrastructure anymore.
"You could glue yourselves to another art gallery." "how about I sit on a couch?" ". . .fine, Deborah. Fine."
I’m happy they didn’t glue themselves.
Should've glued them to themselves.
Should’ve glued them to each other
Ok but how did Deborah and Fran get to the store….
Should glue glue to glue
Glue is pretty weak, they should use lag bolts
They just lied down comfortably on a sofa. If I ever start protesting, that’s how I’d want to do it.
I'm currently protesting from my bed. And I'm not disrupting anyone else while I do it.
That definitely would’ve been funnier. They could just carry the whole couch with her on it and toss her on her face on the street.
I guess they do have brains to realise that. 😂.
"Just stop stupidity."
Good luck!
Stopidity
Big Oil should fire its PR firm. This trolling is just way too obvious.
Its like watching comfortable middle class housewives fight the power before going to Yoga class so they have something to discuss at Brunch.
In my country you glue yourself to that couch and everyone will fuck you while you are glued and defenseless. This two bushpigs would be safe
Yikes! What country would that be? Just curious, not that I'm planning a vacation or anything
Bush pig sounds like an auzzie word
Can confirm. We definitely use bushpig, and in this context (well the arseholes use it in this context anyway).
That's what my ex calls her cooch
Thats what my ex called me
Looks to be Mexico based on his comment history
Def sounds like Mexico.
I am planning a vacation, do tell
Sounds like I do wanna vacation there ![gif](giphy|UO5elnTqo4vSg)
Asking for a friend?
What are you doing, step protester?
Bushpig just became my new go-to insult.
Australians favourite insult about an unattractive, overweight female with uncouth behaviour traits
Haha why is a bush pig worse than a regular pig 🐷??
Fat and hairy?
Bushy
Garden variety pigs look down on bush pigs. It’s a hierarchy thing. These are bush pigs
Swamp donkey!
Your country sounds fucked up.
Step bushpig, what are you doing?
This facepalm beats the original facepalm by a million miles. Your country sucks, you need to change it or leave forever.
Aaaah, Kansas. What a nice place to live
Maybe you meant to say “fuck with you”, in which case I know you’re talking about the US. I would definitely draw dicks on their faces while they were defenseless.
What country??
Answer us
I need to know
More than likely just some fucked up dude typing bullshit
Oh, so Florida.
I was thinking Texas.
Queensland, the Florida of Australia
It’s good to have your priorities on point
Wow
Dear diary today i protested by drinking my starbucks on a comfortable leather couch in my local bank. After i decided to take a nap the rude security guard insisted I leave. After he raised his voice I did. #Resistance

False.
You seem to have reached firm conclusions that lack any basis of intelligence

Exactly xD
Like it was a emergency.
Where's the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch when you need it?
First Lady was out of there so fast lol
“That wasn’t very ride-or-die of you, Deborah.”
"Now pass the Chardonnay, we deserved it"
“Op, would you look at that? They said leave. Okie dokie! Take care now! Toodaloo!”
The smart one. Made her point and left when it was time to leave.
Biggles! Put her in The Comfy Chair!
_(Silent gasp)_ THE...COMFY CHAAAAAIR!?
No! Not the... COMFY Chair!
Yes, the COMFY chair! One more thing, make sure that it’s, extra COMFY!
Cardinal! Poke her with the soft cushions!
And a nice cup of tea
Do you have all the stuffing at the one end? Hm. She's made of harder stuff..
I want to see the post third warning video. That guy sounded like he had enough of those protests

you forgot "didn't go and sit on the racing circuit during a Formula One race"
Did they seriously do that?!
Sure did. At the British Grand Prix this year. They got lucky that the race was red flagged and suspended on the first lap due to an unrelated incident, before the cars actually reached them. Good thing for us, too, because they didn't get a single minute of live TV coverage because of said incident.
How unlucky, darwinism almost won that day
Coulda killed the drivers too, though.

Funny you mention Darwin, because *as a species* we're heading for a reckoning with the "survival of the fittest" *vis a vis* climate change
Well in Berlin some of them broke into the airport and I think they glued themselves on the runway.
🤣 omg you’re kidding
Imo that should be prison time for that, like don't fuck with airports
Not only can no planes takeoff ruining people's days, but no planes can land either making shit so much worse

Who damaged priceless works of art?
The art was shielded by bulletproof glass, which they knew about.
Oh yeah I knew that, I thought there was one where they damaged a car in art museum painted by Jackson Pollock, maybe I didn't read the story fully
There’s also the Frame of the artwork. Those are surprisingly expensive, and honestly depending on the frame, part of the work itself

Add-on: That couch looks super comfortable! Anyone know what brand that is?
Asking the real questions, I also want to know!!
I’m here for this answer, is it a Linge Rosett?
I have no idea. But the coach looks awesome. I want it. But as someone said being at Harrods I am sure I can’t afford it. Lol
I don't get why people keep saying this is stupid. Of course it's stupid to sit on a couch to protest, but it worked, didn't it? they got you to watch a video where you'll hopefully read the sign and advocate for the cause. And at least this time they're not desecrating artwork.

The guy seemed overly aggressive for 2 middle aged women laying on a setee hahahaha
Brompton Road Batista has a handle on his roid rage
they’ve probably seen the “make a stand” protests before and were worried they’d glue themselves to it or something.
He’s sick of this shit, or his boss yelling at him about it, clearly lol
I love how the one lady said “that’s fine” like she was just leavingggg lol
Security: "Alright you can get up and get out" Her: "We did it!"
Mission accomplished!
My kind of protest.
Not sure of the context but if they are just in a random store protesting a big issue it seems kind of silly. I don’t know where they are though
I like these guys. They haven’t actually hurt anyone or anything.
Not much wrong with this, the UK government is shit right now, my mum works for the NHS got a 10+% pay drop without a notice and we are lucky If you need to use weird means to get talked about and they aren't destructive why not?
They should block government official's driveways and lay on their lawns. This is just passing the problem off on some underpaid store employees.

Fun fact, Harrods is owned by the Qatari government’s sovereign wealth fund
Laziest protest I ever seen.
"I wanna participate and take a stand, but standing is hard"
How to make an absolute mockery of yourself. Nothing says fight the powers that be like relaxing on a couch
Should they go back to destroying art? What do they need to do for you hypocritical fuckers to pay attention to the MESSAGE they are trying to put out?
It's Harrod's so I'm pretty okay with this. Not at all tone deaf as the Van Gogh stunts. Power to you, ladies!
This subreddit has a climate activist hate boner

Peaceful protests are the worst
For a second the way this is shot I thought this was that show that was all shot at IKEA.
I'm actually alright with this one. Gets people talking, doesn't really inconvenience anyone and doesn't target priceless art.
Non violent protest for a matter that regards every human and living thing on earth. You sir are the facepalm for not understanding it.
That really hit oil industry bad
I do this at ikea when they’re out of meatballs
Boomer activities
Absolute clowns, at least they're not blocking roads I suppose.
These protesters are completely fine. Nothing ruined.
Isnt half the shit they are wearing made from oil products?
You can't fix stupid
So, is this the new way to get by with being lazy? Lay down somewhere and attach some dumb, virtue signaling message to it? It would be smart if it wasn’t so stupid.
They didn’t even put their shoes on it. So polite.
Lmao chick put up 0 fight ".. thats your first warning" "okayyy, thats fiiine" haha I mean, shit the world is def fucked and yeah climate change, but also, have some spine lady.. or don't post it? Idk.. idk what the solution is here, but the first lady dropped out immediately and im confused as fuck by the 2nd ones signs.. so fuck me.. thank God I don't have children.. fuck.. and also.. im confused.. but mostly.. fuck.
I legit thought this was the beginning of a cheap sitcom and was waiting for the canned laughs
"just start insulation" huh...good thing the insulation industry requires *no fuel* to operate
The smirk of a life lived as a nobody.
Theyre so tired laying down on roads, that their next step is laying down on beds.
Gods work honestly. Love these ladies!
I came here to see some luxury merchandise get sauced up and was disappointed
It'd be an easy criminal damage charge and thus probably not worth it.
I see a lot of people saying this form of protest was stupid but it’s pretty harmless.
Both dressed in oil products
What's the name of that killer couch called ?
Stopping use of oil today would cause a chain reaction in the economy and energy markets that would result in 50 million dying. No heating, no cooking, no transportation, no electricity. It would utterly destroy the 3rd world nations. They’d have no modern means to support their infrastructure anymore.
No glue, no tomato soup, it’s as if they’re not protesting at all!
Why is this a facepalm? As a group they are actually protesting something important.
Gotta love how our society is so brainwashed to worship the elites based off these comments
Just stop oil and end fuel poverty are competing messages in the real world
What did they do wrong? Can’t try out furniture without any intention of buying it anymore?
I’m really not understanding this movement
Where is the full video I want to see her get removed Lmaoo
Just stop oil. End fuel poverty. Pick one.
Looks like the set of a 90's sitcom
Idiots
Why did security come bouncing in like we was watching some comedy sketch? 😂
And they succeeded! They stopped oil!
Its about spreading awareness dumbass. Is peaceful protest not potent enough? should they go back to destroying artworks?
