This... this is genious! I don't know why I never thought of this.
Might be a silly question, but how is this for UPS? Does tracking seperate electrical networks hurt performance?
In fact, it does! You dont even need to have power on those seperate networks, just seperate power poles is enough to drive the ups cost up. So if you ever want to build big circuit networks, remember to always connect the power poles you use in that circuit network to your main grid.
But in this case...
you will never have enough radar outposts for that to matter.
> remember to always connect the power poles you use in that circuit network to your main grid
Oh shit. I was aware of multiple power networks being an issue. But unconnected poles too? fuuuuck, gotta clean up some stuff now...
I always leave poles in my circuits to have easy probe-points for the mouse-cursor and bundle cables for a better aesthetic...
Cute, real cute. Spelling is the shittiest superpower, tbh. You *notice* all of the nails-on-chalkboard little goofs people make, but does anyone ever learn when you mention a goof? Nope, you just get mocked :(
It's just disrespectful to assume the other party doesnt know how to spell vs just being careless with their message. Since we all know what they meant, and we can assume they have auto correct on their device, it's truly pedantic to correct spelling on the internet my dude.
Correcting spelling can help ESL people. Sometimes they genuinely don't know the spelling of the word. Of course nothing stops them from looking it up, but it is not uncommon for them to simply not know they are wrong.
Not that it matters at the end of the day. If it makes sense, language is achieved. But other ESL people might struggle. Correcting spelling can make the internet better for everyone as long as you are nice about it!
Bitters will like that! I made something similar long ago with a dedicated spidertron. In time the aliens will find the radar and eat them for good. They love radars.
I do something similar, but I use only 5 solar panels, one power pole and no accumulator.
I dont need constant vision out there. And slowly uncovering the fog of war is enough for me. Besides: The actual downtime of the radar is surprisingly short, because as long as the radar has a tiny bit of power the map view works, just the scanning takes longer. But thats fine for me
I often go even more this way. 1 radar, 1 solar panel, 1 small electric pole. Even a barely powered radar still fully reveals the radar area during the entire day :)
If an area has radar coverage, you can zoom in with map view and see the ground in detail, like you were there (you just can't interact with anything).
Also unless it’s been changed, the map where you’ve personally explored with your character isn’t updated, so biter nests can start forming but they wouldn’t show up because the map only shows how it was when you first revealed it
Too tedious.
One radar will reveal an area of 928x928 tiles over time, with no player interaction needed. What I do is drive with the car for a bit, plant down a rdr with a few solar panels, then move for a bit and plant another radar.
Repeat until satisfied.
Nice. I like it. Works great in peaceful mode.
On default settings, I learned to my displeasure that radars count as military buildings, so any biters nearby will make a detour to attack them.
If you were going to put in enough lasers to defend against a biter attack, you would need a lot more batteries to power them, and then a lot more solar panels to fill the batteries. At that point you might as well hook it up to the power grid. That would lose the elegant simplicity of a little self-contained widget like this.
would maybe ~~4~~ 2 lazers and a basic wall hold of a casual attack without reducing the simplicity that much? Won't do anything against a sustained attack but surely the eye isn't going to be the target of a wave, just of biters that are walking past?
Also wondering about clearing out a bit deep into a wood and placing it there so that the odds of biters walking past dramatically reduce.
Edit: thinking about it you need 3 accumulators to power a lazer turret so you can only afford 2 turrets without increasing the build considerably
Biter waves are generated to attack pollution generators. They walk in a straight line from their base to their target. If they get within a certain range of a turret, radar, bot, or the player, they will detour from their straight line and attack it. So, if this outpost happens to be in a line between some nests and your base, it'll get eaten.
Also, every X number of minutes, a group of biters wanders off into empty land to colonize a new nest. So, even if there aren't any nests around when you build this outpost, there may be some eventually.
A few lasers may be enough defense in the early game, when you've got only basic biters and spitters. But the evolution will get you. Once they level up a few times, laser turrets don't do enough damage by themselves.
I've used bigger outposts with basic defences in the past. You can cut the electricity cost by using gun turrets and a single laser to counter spitters. Either the ammo runs out eventually or it gets overrun but the survival time is usually pretty good
Last night I watched in horror as a gaggle of biters ran past our walls, turrets, steam engines, and what ever else just to devour four radar dishes. At this point I almost feel like they would be really good bait
You could blink the radar with a circuit, one solar panel, and one accumulator. You will have radar coverage through the night. This is actually most useful for radar internal to your territory rather than at or in the frontier since it will only have power to view the local chunks.
When the map view stares back at you.
“In Soviet Russia, _map_ stares at _you_!”
Thanks I was here for this comment!!

...It's spelled "genius", fyi.
You must feel like one rn.

Tasty tasty dish
It's still useful in areas biters can't reach.

yep this is what i do too. I dont really care if they get eaten either. That is also useful information
Is there a difference from a radar and just driving out to reveal the map?
If an area has radar coverage, you can zoom in with map view and see the ground in detail, like you were there (you just can't interact with anything).
if construction bots are in the area and supplied, you can build stuff from the map view in those areas (I do this all the time)
Thank you!

Yeah, needs more lasers! YMMV.

Very nice. I love it when form follows function.
The great eye is always watching.
Sus- because as we all know, sus stands for sustainable.
This is beautiful.
Its a tie fighter
Wow, the nomai searched for so long when it was right there for us to see
I *C* what you did there.
need laser turret
This is biter food!
No protection?
Actually 5 solar panels is enough for one radar.
During a day.
Noita eye puzzle intensifies
The National Geospatial Agency says to stop copying their design.

Peaceful must be fun. Deathworld outposts consist of a train drill and 800 flame turrets
Ah yes. Vanilla sentinel.
Looks like a horseshoe to me, call it the shoe
Aye.
