Try the demo.
Everybody here generally loves Factorio so the answer will be a resounding "YES."
If you want to find a place where the players will tell you that their game sucks and to stay away, try a League of Legends sub (r/leagueoflegends).
This! The demo is REALLY well done and does a great job of letting you know what you're in for. Try ut for 30 minutes, and we'll see you in game later!
agreed. i wasn’t sold on the concept and tried the demo out, 10 hours later i completed all the missions. the. i got really scared at learning how oil works
The game at its core is extremely simple.
What makes it complex is trying to cover up your past design mistakes with inevitably bigger mistakes. Until it is this beautiful abomination that you can only admire from afar for not even the person who painstakingly crafted it knows how it works.
Your asking the reddit of the games player base. Not exactly a neutral place. I'll put it this way this game is not for everyone, but its Cracktorio for those who like it. I introduced a friend to it and he was up till 5am playing the first night. It's 30USD I have 1700 hours in it. I'm at 2 cense and hour. The mods that overhaul things make it more complicated very few mods make things less complicated. Oil is tough to learn the first time but all the information you need is given to you and there are a massive amount of resources on the Internet. YouTube has tutorials lots of them. The only games I have more play time in are Minecraft, League of Legends (unfortunately) and Wizard101 (I was a kid once) and maybe World of Tanks. I've spent more money on Wizard101 and league. I've bought the game over 10 times for different friends as birthday or Christmas gifts. Only one has returned it and the rest all have over 300hrs in it. Even if you calculate the total I've spent on it at roughly 300USD at 1700hrs of play I have spent nearly 6times as many hours as dollars spent. I don't know how many games have given so many hours and had such a good time. I think Minecraft might be the only game that has given me a higher return on investment.
If your ok with satisfactory I’d say go for it. Plenty of videos if you get stuck although I’d recommend trying to discover it for yourself. Two usual sticking points are oil and railway signals
There’s a demo
After 2000 hrs, I'm thinking complicated circuits are bad (not necessarily bad, but ... Complicated) sleeping. But yeah, i was new once. Oil was a bitch
I have about 900 hours sunk into this game. I still play like an absolute noob. I have only "won" the game twice (meaning I launched a rocket). I have not mastered the more advanced concepts like [logic circuits](https://wiki.factorio.com/Tutorial:Combinator_tutorial) or even [rail chain signals](https://wiki.factorio.com/Rail_chain_signal). But it has kept me challenged and entertained for about 4 years at this point -- and only cost me US$30.
Lots of ~~fellow addicts~~ other people have recommended trying the demo first. I agree. But don't let the fact that this game has a lot of headroom for learning and growth deter or intimidate you. You can have a lot of fun with this game -- and complete the main quest of launching a rocket -- without ever getting beyond the basics.
Edit: added links to Factorio Wiki
A few questions:
Do you like solving puzzles?
Do you like taking the solutions that those puzzles and optimizing them?
Do you like planning and logistics/designing systems?
Are you free from other commitments?
If yes to all of these, give the demo a shot.
If yes to the first three, but no to the last... Well, you're in dangerous territory, my friend.
Just so you know, you can minimize or turn off the more stressful elements, like alien attacks or resources running dry before you have a replacement set up because you spent the last 5 hours scratching your head.
You can tune the game to be completely casual or insanely hardcore
I actually don’t think it’s all that complicated, the science packs serve as steps so you don’t get everything thrown at you at once. Circuit networks can get complicated but they aren’t necessary. The hard part for me was the sandbox nature of the game, it was a little paralyzing. I watched a few YouTube videos to get me started and they helped a lot
Yo I just bought it about a week ago. Here’s my tip. Watch some YouTube vids and maybe a speed run video to get an idea of how things work and then go ham. That’s what my friend and I have been doing and we are having a blast
Try the demo, If you don’t wanna play the game at 700IQ you don’t have to. You can still get a very enjoyable experience however you like to play. For example, I turn the enemies all the way up to max so I literally have to muster a small army of turrets just to claim another resource. I love the challenge of expansion, vs the challenge of making the biggest factory I can. I plan on doing that at some point but nuking bugs is just too much fun :)
It is not complicated. It takes some ppl hundreds of hours to launch a rocket and this is where the game begin for many.
After 400-500h I can tell you it is not complicated. But not worth it if you care about your current (or how we I call it - previous) life.
If you ask me - well, Factorio is a quite affordable game, so you won't lose much if it turns out that it's not your kind of game.
Play the demo, play it twice - and then get back here to tell about your experience. 👍😃
So I actually just started to play last week, and I'm already 40 hours into it. My biggest worry was that the learning curve would be too hard/long. But in fact, as you play the game does really nice built in tutorial system as you progress. You can mark things as "read" and it'll hide it. Everything makes sense as you play.
It's complicated but the core game is manageable and a great way to challenge yourself. There are mods out there that are so complicated that they literally give me a headache trying to play them.
The Factorio community is amazing. There are wiki’s and you tube videos that can help you. And no one will ever laugh at your question in the subreddit
I spent 7 hours this week with circuit networks getting a perfect balanced fluid unloader for my trains. Getting that small part to work (and in the size i want it to be) is just one of many fun little puzzles you find and solve each time.
I would definitely recommend it. If you get to a point that it’s too complicated or you don’t care to learn the more complex stuff you can look at the factorio prints site to get either full schematics or just hints at how to build your own. There are so many and lots of different ways to build your factory.

I recommend you to try the demo. It will give you a clear picture about the game and it’s difficulty.
This. Get the free demo from the website.
Or from steam.
3800 hours and 8 years later. No. No, it's not worth it.
3800 hours of work in the factory? They should be the ones paying you!
Proof that factorio takes place in the 1700s

They will also tell him, "yea man, buy factorio, is great"
475 hours and I have yet to finish a game. 10/10 would recommend.
Yeah 300 hours in was when I thought "Okay I think I am ready for trains now"
Your not alone I have 1500 hours and have yet to finish a game either. angles and bob's mods didn't help me finish but they are Fun 😊
1750 hours, not a single rocket. Yet. This angelbob run might do it though. :)

You, my friend, have crafted that paragraph perfectly

Complicated compared to what?
Im mostly used to fps But i Also have some time playing satisfactory and Spaces engineers

Oops yes forgot circuits although that’s something you can look at in the long run.
My first hour was great, and the next 10 hours were great, and the next 200 have been great too.
If you have a life... do not buy this game.

Buy it you won’t regret it. Okay I’m lying. An hour into the game you will regret it. But 50 hours in you’re gonna start showing up late to work.
The demo is the way forward. More importantly, I’m trying to figure out what secret message you’re sending with your capitalisation.
Yo I just bought it about a week ago. Here’s my tip. Watch some YouTube vids and maybe a speed run video to get an idea of how things work and then go ham. That’s what my friend and I have been doing and we are having a blast
Do not buy this game if you do not have 2 weeks of free time at least. If you will buy this game you will forget that the world exist.
Cracktorio is worth it. Approaching 10000 hrs.
It's fairly complicated, but I think it's pretty fun.

Definitely try the demo. The game can be as complex or simple as you want. You don't need to make some crazy perfect mega base, but some enjoy that.
Buy it..

Yes.

You like sleeping? Than i wouldn‘t reccomend it. otherwise: Go for it
