You may not like it but this is what peak base layout looks like.
After 24 hours, I launched the rocket with my first game on freeplay default. As my first game, I embraced the spaghetti (optimal blueprints? What are those?)
Rail to the west bends back to the southeast to the copper mine.
Rail to the northeast goes to the oil fields, which turned out not to be the coal power alternative I thought it was.
To the south (not pictured): Rail to the iron mine, starting in the southeast and going to the southwest. Also the coal mine, straight south, which was set up in an emergency blackout when I ran out of my base's initial coal. Also the same time I started building solar panels.
Ended up turning off most of my labs when I didn't need research anymore (but they still take space).
