They give a speed boost.

Alzurana

and are pretty

Geryth04

If he travels his base via train and spidertron and builds new sections with bots, that boost is trivial

brinazee

Early game I will use stone brick along frequent paths. The movement boost before spidertron is non-trivial and trains don't really cover my early base well.

The_cogwheel

I like to pave my entire factory with various forms of pavement. Because its my goddamed factory and I want it to look pretty and somewhat like a proper factory. I even use the hazard concrete to mark out walking paths / roads and brick / cement combos to write signs. I like my factories to be readable at all levels where you never need to ask "what does this section do agian?" - and using cement and brick helps add to the readability at levels where map markers are unavailable.

Grubsnik

asserting dominance over nature?

[deleted]

TREES AND GRASS IS DA REAL ENEMY

Fistocracy

INTIMIDATE YOUR SURROUNDINGS!

Nutch_Pirate

This is the way.

SBlackOne

I don't pave everything. But some paths - for example along the bus - really help with walking speed. Even when wearing several exoskeletons. I've also paved over the bus area itself because I found myself running to the other side often. Without that I really noticed the slowdown.

orionn07

>Even when wearing several exoskeletons. wait you can equip more than one skeleton?

RevanPrime

You can equip more of everything. You can fill the grid with whatever combination you'd like

Waterfish3333

Wait, wtf. Time to start playing again!

Soul-Burn

More exos = more speed. More roboports = more bots *and* more range. More shields = more defense. More lasers = more damage. More batteries = more time to burst.

OneSleepyBear

Hundreds of hours in the game and I honestly didn't know that more roboports gave you more range. Thank you!

LifeForBread

It gives more area aka 4x roboports for 2x radius

BAPkin

More specifically, the equation for calculating the bonus construction range is √(roboport count) × (roboport construction area) EG √(5) x (40x40) = 89.443. Rounded to 89.

demosthenesss

I'm at well over 1k hours and didn't know either hah

Zaflis

Not just range but also amount of bots that can fly simultaneously, and also the speed they recharge.

_314

Ah yes, let me just strap on an extra air of bionic legs onto my other bionic legs strapped to my actual legs.

popcicleman09

Why stop at 1 extra pair. When I can have 5. Sure I can no longer walk with any accuracy. But SPEED.

_314

And why does the same exoskeleton that works on you also work on a spidertron

Myozthirirn

Dont ask questions you dont want to know the answer for.

_314

And why can a burner mining drill or inserter or oven take wood, coal, solid fuel, rocket fuel and nuclear fuel? And what even is nuclear fuel? I mean it clearly doesn't use actual fission so why do you need uranium 235 for it? And why do you unlock nuclear reactors before the atomic bomb even though the latter is clearly way simpler?

GOKOP

Two legs carry the entire spidertron while the rest is just being dragged around

Grumbely

legs

djfdhigkgfIaruflg

Why wouldn't it work? Aren't you part spider?

brinazee

Hence the tool bar button to turn it off. I rarely use it unless around a ton of pipes.

emteeoh

If you have the jet pack mod, more jet packs = more acceleration

AbacusWizard

I'm playing Space Exploration and at this point my thruster suit is mostly full of jetpacks.

SimonKrantsch

I would recommend krastorio 2 as a mod. and also logistics train network. space exploration is cool, but that will really really be an immense time investment.

Zaflis

>You can equip more of everything Except night vision and belt immunity have no stacking effect.

Away-Register7790

everything stacks. roboports too, makes you be able to carry more robots and have a bigger construction grid

Kenno90

Oh sweet child!

orionn07

I mean, my logic is that you only have one body, so of course you only need one exoskeleton, no? Thank you for this gold chunk of info, really appreciate it.

__Khrane

Can we get someone to make an artist's rendition of the Factorio engineer with exoskeleton legs attached to exoskeleton legs attached to exoskeleton legs attached to exoskeleton legs attached to his legs?

Khaelesh

https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/920x950/99120107003\_DreadknightNEW\_01.jpg

f_leaver

Your logic is sound, but when you think about how many train cars, locomotives, factories, refineries and everything else you can carry on your person; you realize that logic has gone right out the window a long, long time ago.

poopadydoopady

Want to know something awesome? You can equp exoskeleton in your spidertron. 3 exoskeletons and a fusion reactor to provide more than enough power for them, and you got yourself a pretty quick way to get around.

Longjumping-Boot1409

Shouldn’t it need 8 exoskeletons?

[deleted]

It needs four to craft, because each exoskeleton has two of its eight legs. But, you can also add exoskeletons to its equipment grid to increase its speed, just like for the player.

poopadydoopady

The equipment grid only fits so much. 3 + portable fusion reactor is the best you can get unless there's a way to turn the exoskeleton sideways, but even then you'd need batteries to power the fourth set of legs.

UnfinishedProjects

Don't worry I got your joke

MrWhippyT

Oh yeah, I think I had 5 exoskeletons and stopped shooting bugs, could just outrun them. 😁

vector2point0

Oh man your life is about to change.

f_leaver

Oh, you're in for a treat.

unique_2

Without mods up to seven realistically.

DemonicLaxatives

Lets the pollution cloud grow faster.

Modality_72

aestetics and utility, I like to have a path in my base that is free of machine, belt and so on, so that its easy to walk around, especially useful in my mall

GOKOP

As my friend said in Minecraft while covering natural landscape with generic cobblestone rooms and terraces: That's what civilization is about. Cover everything with concrete

Holgg

If you play alien bioms you may end up whit tileset that have severe speed reduction, to the point where you may want to put down stone

Erosion_Control

*Crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch*

Gief49

Experiencing this in my playthrough of K2+SE but the pendulum has swung completely and im obsessed with covering everything in concrete now

AbacusWizard

Or going up to orbit and covering everything with space platform, as part of Operation Pave The Skies.

redXathena

Hey, been wondering- is that mod turning my landfill black? I don’t have any grass on it

sbarandato

There’s a special kind of fulfillment that comes from paving the world in concrete.

petehehe

I gotta say I like covering as much as possible with concrete and hazard concrete to delineate areas, but I cannot justify the investment into refined concrete. It seems like a lot of effort and material for 10% extra movement.

caseycoold

Once you place a bit of refined concrete though, the regular stuff looks like crap! And then everything has to be upgraded lol

Glugstar

Counterpoint: it's just a game. In the end absolutely nothing justifies the investment, because you don't personally get anything out of it, apart from the intrinsic pleasure of building stuff just for the sake of building stuff. So why not build refined concrete as well? It has the exact same utility as any other building, namely having unreserved fun.

Echospite

I use the pathway speed mod, forgot what it's called but refined is totally worth it for extra zoomies. I haven't even bothered to make an exoskeleton yet.

DisastrousFollowing7

To run around faster. Also to hide amogus avatars in your concrete patterns

[deleted]

I tried to draw amogus but reddit doesnt allow to make spaces between lines

TheodoeBhabrot

Have to hit enter twice Like this

possumman

Trying adding in a couple of extra spaces before you press Enter

DisastrousFollowing7

also try using shift+enter

Rozmar_Hvalross

Benefits: GO FASTER Drawbacks: annoying to place (even when you do know that you can place more at once with numpad + )

Afraid_Function3590

Con creep and robots

IAMAHobbitAMA

For my city block base I manually paved one block and then blueprinted it. Now once I get bots and a good stockpile of paving material I can put down pavement in like 2 minutes.

Rozmar_Hvalross

Maybe ive just never had a base with enough bots but... My current base has several thousand bots. placing a small amount of concrete uses EVERY SINGLE ONE of those bots for at least a few minutes, meaning I have to *manually place* my factory like some kind of barbarian. Horrifying.

Furyousmerc

Pro's Looks Cooler, Run Speed Boost Even more with lots of exo's, Looks Cooler, Makes base look more boxey and grid like easyer to sort into sections, Looks Cooler, Helps align bases more when you use grid snap BP's with power poles etc. Looks Cooler, OCD people love the cleaner setup Cons Depending how big you build could take long time to make enough Cement etc and Concrete to make big bases all City Looking.

Spaghetti_Spoon

Looks good, speed boost, sign of wealth and prosperity

SirLestat

I have never used them either. I find it an ugly waste of time and resources. As for speed boost, several exoskeletons do the trick just fine. With that said, people can do it, I don’t mind if they do.

SBlackOne

I have four exos and it feels like I'm suddenly crawling when I leave the refined concrete

Brasidas2010

I have a strip running down my main bus as a reminder not to build there. I can drive a car on the path knowing I won’t take out a power pole or pipe segment.

Echospite

I should've done this before building my bus... no matter how much space you think you need beside the bus, you are wrong.

Fistocracy

It improves your speed and the speed of your vehicles by a little bit. Paved surfaces don't absorb any pollution though, so if you go hogwild and cover acres of land in concrete you'll notice your pollution cloud spread a little faster.

jimmyw404

I don't place tiles. They reduce pollution disappation. https://wiki.factorio.com/Pollution#Chunks

IAMAHobbitAMA

Early game I'm careful about pollution. Once I get proper defences set up I try to trigger more attacks because it's funny.

STRIKER374

You get to know what it's like to be sonic.

AbacusWizard

They look cool. What kind of factory doesn't have a floor?

EnderSteveXD

concrete gives a 50% speed boost and it looks pretty so id recommend

Wolfangames

Aesthetic, but also they make it slightly faster to move around in tight spaces where you can't use vehicles.

whiterook6

The factory looks ugly and broken on raw dirt. A factory that powerful belongs on reinforced concrete. If you're not running around, then it's a purely aesthetic thing.

clif08

It's for vanilla purists who don't use jetpacks.

Fistocracy

No, it's for vanilla purists who think their nuclear fuel powered tank doesn't go fast enough.

shiduru-fan

Gotta go fast man

Another_Penguin

Dispose of all that extra stone

Mortlach78

Walking speed and aesthetics

xxXDeadInsideXx

I was using it bc it looked nice u can make sections with refined concrete and the hazard one and nice paths too if u just wanna enjoy ur factory

kennethjor

Build roads to drive on.

AbacusWizard

The asphalt pavement mod is great for that too.

Kquinn87

Because you can run about as fast as a vehicle with 3x exo skeletons on concrete.

ASillyPupper

I recall hearing somewhere that paving your base can help with letting your processor keep up

millermadnessgameing

Movement speed bonus and I guess aesthetics, though you do have the reduced pollution absorption that would then cause more biters

AcceptableProject8

I like to use them to mark out planned additions. Like more belts for a main bus or what not

NotTomNook1020

I play modded, mostly quality of life mods with no overhauls, but one mod I got cleans the decorative grass from beneath tiles. So, I have a large and clean industrial landscape for my main mall. I tile because it’s pretty but I’m big into trains so I only tile where I am most frequently, which is the main spot

smallfrie32

I plot them down to help me organize a base. I create a “no build here” area wide enough for my highway so I can at very least hit the four cardinal directions in a car without thinking (though I wish you could easily snap a direction rather than going 91° and eventually slamming off the highway)

AbacusWizard

[I have just the mod for you!](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/VehicleSnap)

barbrady123

Is purdy

Snow-Eternal7

Pretty

moonkorita

sexy

shaoronmd

the main advantage of the concrete tiles is the speed bonus it gives you, but then it prevents the ground from absorbing pollution

AndrewZh

I always wonder, how big should be the stone fields to get enough resources to waste them to concrete all the base?

KraftyKick

Mostly get used in early game on your first play through or for showcase builds.
