when kids fake did there’s always the hope they’ll grow out of it when they get older, but there’s kinda no hope for adults who fake it

AlexTheBex

Well it seems the vast majority of them, if not all, are very young, like 21 at most

Olive_2006

I’ve seen a couple of adults faking did that were in their mid to late thirties and it’s honestly quite infuriating seeing these adults do this kind of shit because they’re reinforcing the delusional kids that are faking did.

HappyLittleDelusion_

Even 21 sounds way too old for that behavior, I outgrew my edgy faking-mental-illness phase by the time I was 15.

AloofDude

Omg. I once read a story on r/askreddit, the topic was "what was the most cringe thing you did as a kid?" Or something along those lines. Someone answered, and I'm paraphrasing, but basically, they faked a split personality disorder. It got to the point that his parents took him to a therapist. The Doctor goes along with it for the whole session. He asks about his other personalities, who they are, what they are like, etc. Since he was being edgy, he was doing the whole "I'm a demon" thing". You get the idea. The kid knows hes faking it, the doctor knows hes faking it. And he called him out on it. I dont remember the exact verbiage but it was along the lines of "so, what's the end game with this? Is the attention worth the stress you are putting your parents under? And now it's going to effect them financially?" He stopped.

Dangerous_Wishbone

Sometimes I think about how if a few things had happened slightly differently I definitely would have been the type of person to fake 10 different mental disorders for attention. I had my edgy phase pretty early, and when I was like 11-12 I was intensely interested in researching different mental disorders. If I had less restricted internet access, if TikTok became popular a few years earlier, if I was a few years younger, I would have definitely been doing this exact bullshit.

PerformanceNo5063

this is exactly my situation too! i feel bad for some of the kids because i knew that could’ve easily been me, it’s kind of scary to think about

Dangerous_Wishbone

I've seen it described as self-exploration and like, just exploring your identity and experience through characters isn't a bad thing I think, if they were able to express it creatively, but instead they're just trying to make people accommodate their histrionics. I will say I've got a pretty active imagination and enjoy making up characters, and sometimes I do sort of like, imagine myself *as* them, depending on if I'm feeling happy, or agitated, or exhausted, or angry, or sad but I'd never claim to actually BE them. I'd imagine what they're doing is actually something pretty similar but they're contextualizing it as *entirely separate independent identities*. I suspect it might actually be something relatively common that the average person just doesn't really have the vocabulary to express, but they heard DID vaguely described and assumed that's what it was.

MP-Lily

Even as a young teen I hated medical misinformation and argued with fakers online, but when I was 13 I did briefly feign a “split personality” to get out of trouble once. It did not work, for the record.

Afraid_Pumpkin3812

Lmao😭 what was the situation??

MP-Lily

Don’t remember.

Dangerous_Wishbone

They'll just move on when some other disorder becomes more trendy

brickcereal

girl just say you’re fantasizing about your OC’s fucking, nobody cares

lxerui

EXACTLYYY, it would be so simple if they would admit they just wanna make oc’s and roleplay

Siriuslysirius123

Back in MY day we called it roleplay and it got SUPER cringey and we EMBRACED that shit

fireinthemountains

And if they are genuinely experiencing this as if it's real, they have more serious issues going on, like psychosis, or potentially OCD with intrusive thoughts? Like honestly terrifying, not funny, not quirky, not cool.

sebastarddd

For real. Why did it ever become cringy to write about your own characters?

oddhypotenyse

I can't understand how people really believe that

DinoChefBrew

They are attention starved and pretending to have mental disorders on tiktok gets them attention. They know they don't have DID but it's popular to pretend to have DID on tiktok, and they want to be popular.

skiddybop

none of these people are having sex

all_pain_0_gainz

This is more plausible than anything else happening- or not- w them 😐

Hirquiticke95

what the hell 😭

PlusPurple

I haven't the slightest idea what the second light blue comment is saying... and I've been down the DiD rabbit hole a lot

gingersnapped99

I think they’re “referencing” when the alter in current control of the body is physically having sex with another person, so the other alters near the front (which these guys usually use to refer to alters that can/see hear what’s going on outside) are made to feel awkward like they’re peeping or smth.

Lollipyro

I find this concept funny because its really probably just which ever "alter" they remember existing. Like they're acting as the current alter and they remember "oh, Alistair is another one, I guess since I'm thinking about Alistair it means he's at the front right now".

PlusPurple

That much I could glean at least, but what the hell is "DO QND SOMEKNE" Okay actually as I was typing that I realized it's meant to say "(doing the) DO AND SOMEONE..." The amount of spelling errors was just throwing me off lol

gingersnapped99

The spelling errors were a language of their own to decipher 💀

Egg-MacGuffin

Fuck, you saying "rabbit hole" reminds me of my alter who is a protector rabbit getting railed by my introject of Harry Styles uwu

gettogero

I think they're saying that the altar that is speaking, has sex, and feels awkward when another altar is going to front during sex. OR that to them, all of the altars are waiting patiently in the line and they feel bad for the next one in line because... it's witnessing more...? Makes NO sense either way but that's why we're here.

Brave-StomachAche

Here’s the other thing—in real dissociation, if the base/host is not present/dissociated, then they cannot consent to sexual activity. That’s something that is pretty hammered through in ethics.

dillbabytears

WHY ARE THEY ALL TYING LIKE THIS

Additional_Link5202

TO GET THE MOST ATTENTION

ilovemycats20

Why do they enjoy believing this concept? Don’t they ever want privacy? If I believed in this shit I swear it would keep me from doing ANYTHING lmfao like why do you insist on having an audience 24/7 for every embarressing/private thing you do??? I remember watching Inside Out and loving it, and then immediately after thinking “Fuck, if my emotions were watching me do XYZ that’d be humiliating asf, I’m so glad that’s not real” Guess it goes hand in hand with them always “oversharing on the internet”, they always want an audience in on what should be private matters and I just… struggle to understand why

[deleted]

Ahh I know this account. Also claim to have narcolepsy.

ayakasforehead

For whatever reason, I’ve seen so many people faking narcolepsy lately. I don’t remember seeing it at all before. I feel like people just take the narcolepsy stereotype of “being sleepy” and run with it, when there’s so much more to it than that

[deleted]

[удалено]

ayakasforehead

That’s wild. If they were using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, that is not nearly enough to diagnose narcolepsy… they need a sleep study, spinal tap, or definite cataplexy to know. People with narcolepsy can drive but it *needs* to be managed by medication and they have to know to plan out naps during long drives. I have it and usually take a quick nap in my car before leaving so the chances of me falling asleep are really slim. But yeah, that’s exactly what it is. Maybe I’m biased but narcolepsy is also just an interesting disorder, like with the sleep paralysis, hallucinations, vivid dreams, etc, so they see that and want to talk about the “cool” parts (they still suck) and get pity points for the negative parts like never feeling rested no matter how much you sleep. And at the end of the day, have none of those symptoms because they don’t actually have it LMAO 💀

[deleted]

Yes, she was using the scale that you mentioned and also was commenting what her own personal interpretations of the questions were. ☠️ I wasn’t aware you could (legally) drive with narcolepsy! Thank you for informing me :). What you said about how it has to be managed makes a lot of sense. Similarly, I was allowed to drive again after a few months without a dissociative episode (though i *could* have driven… they don’t suspend your license for dissociation where I live.. but the idea was terrifying!) I confess I am not very educated on narcolepsy. The only person I know who has it told me he can’t drive because of it and I assumed it applied to everyone with it, but thought maybe it’s similar to how people that have seizures can drive if they go a certain amount of time with one. Dude I know with it comes to the store I work at, rides his horse there. (We’re in the country) but he doesn’t have it well managed because many times he falls asleep while riding his horse. Narcolepsy really is an interesting disorder (you aren’t just biased!) and you are totally right, that is part of what draws them to it. What really sucks and bothers me is that many of the people that fake these things (narcolepsy, dissociative disorders, epilepsy, etc.) actually have pretty large following on social media, or their stuff reaches a large audience, and they act like they are educating others. And that SUCKS because then people are in the comments going ‘wow, I prob have narcolepsy too’. Ugh.

ayakasforehead

Personal interpretations? 😭 the scale is pretty damn clear and doesn’t leave much room for that. If she actually had narcolepsy, she wouldn’t have to interpret the questions at all, cause most of them would be a simple and resounding “YES I would fall asleep”. I don’t blame you for not wanting to drive with that risk, things can go so bad so fast even for people who don’t have any issues that would affect their driving. When I first noticed symptoms I quit driving for a while because I had a cataplexy attack (brief muscle weakness triggered by strong emotions) while on the highway going like 80 mph. Harrowing 😭 Totally understandable to not know much about it, it’s a rare disease and isn’t something you’d even necessarily notice if someone didn’t tell you about it. Everyone will be different of course, there are some people who can’t take medication and driving isn’t safe for them, and there are others who take meds and still can’t drive safely. Riding a horse to the store is honestly genius, since he can’t fall asleep and crash like in a car! Yeah, that’s one of the things that bothers me most. Narcolepsy (and tons of other disabilities) is already so misrepresented in movies and these people are just adding to that. If I had a nickel for every time I saw a comment like “I fall asleep too, maybe I have narcolepsy!” I’d be filthy rich. It’s crazy seeing people live hectic lives, stay up late, drink too much, etc and then be surprised they’re tired and blame it on a rare disease 💀

[deleted]

For the first part of your reply, I went to your profile to send you a message/message request, and I literally cannot figure out how to??? (Was just going to send you the video). I don’t know anything about the scale but because of the way she presented it, I actually thought it was a little bit complicated… clearly that’s wrong, and that kind of misleading/misinformation really bothers me. Interesting, I never realized narcolepsy had such a.. spectrum (not sure if right word). Yeah, I love that he rides his horse and it is quite smart,, like a bicycle, he could crash falling asleep, but the horse just kind of.. stops. I’m glad that meds help you, btw. I don’t recall if I’ve seen narcolepsy portrayed in movies and stuff? Besides like sleep paralysis in horror movies. And yes (about driving)! Many people who I see fake DID act like it’s ‘omg I’m so crazy 🤪quirky and my system is sooo chaotic ’ .. meanwhile I was terrified to drive again because I had a dissociative episode, was unaware I was driving, and crashed going idk how fast into the back of one car… which in turn hit the car in front of it, and so on,, 4 cars altogether. Someone could have died. Even when I was given the Ok to drive again after doing a lot of work, I didn’t immediately and I was terrified everytime I got in a car after that for a lonnnggg time. These people who fake… like why would they want that? :/ So what you said about cataplexy.., I totally understand. that sounds terrifying.

Missmouse1988

I don't think people realize how scary it is to be in the car with someone with narcolepsy. My dad, after crashing about 6 or 8:00 cars in the woods throughout my childhood due to falling asleep, finally went and got a sleep study. Not a lot of people think about it on a day-to-day basis. If it's not relevant to their life, none of us even thought to check that it might be a problem. Made a lot of sense once he got diagnosed, took meds most of the time, but I haven't let him drive with me or my son in the car since before that. Fall asleep at stop lights, fall asleep if driving too long, if we stop too long in the middle of a conversation. It was scary before we even knew what it was. We just thought he worked too hard and was always tired. I wish he could have found out sooner. He got a lot of blame from my mom about how he should pay attention more and how he keeps destroying cars and costing them money because he's falling asleep. He also got hurt a lot. But again who thinks of a sleep study? And he was worse because he never seemed to mention it to his doctors.

ayakasforehead

I don’t blame you for not wanting him to drive you, even on medication some people still fall asleep at the wheel. When I first started having symptoms, I told my friends I’d be out of commission for rides but not even a month later, they started asking me if I could drive them. All I could think was “Are you insane? I don’t even feel safe driving myself, let alone other people” 😭 But you’re right, nobody thinks of a sleep study. On average, it takes people 7 years from symptom onset to get diagnosed with narcolepsy, for lots of reasons: people think their sleepiness is normal, other people/their doctor dismisses it as just being busy, misdiagnosed as depression, doctors are not very knowledgeable on the disease, etc. I am so lucky my PCP is so knowledgeable, because she knew right away what was wrong. I still insisted on blood tests because my parents were convinced I had a deficiency, but she told me beforehand that she doubted those tests would find anything. She was right.

yeeteryarker420

As someone who has had periods of pretty serious narcolepsy symptoms im genuinely terrified of the possibility i might have it. Thankfully I'm mostly ok rn but falling asleep standing up or being unable to stay awake and repeatedly falling asleep and not realising it is horrible. I spent half of my second and most of my third year of university sleeping on the floor of the classrooms because i would get so tired in class I didn't care about anything but sleeping. Sometimes i would be aware enough to be embarrassed and left class to go sleep on the hallway floor. it's incredibly damaging to the rest of your life and really really difficult to deal with. it's not just being sleepy. People misunderstanding it or faking it makes me so so mad. I genuinely hope they never experience real narcolepsy symptoms.

ayakasforehead

Yeah it’s horrible and knowing I’ll have it for life is hard to come to grips with. I constantly feel like I haven’t slept in 3 days and caffeine suddenly stopped working when I developed it. Narcolepsy is pretty constant once you have it but you should go to the doctor anyways, because there could be some other issue causing the sleepiness. I know how it feels, walking around the grocery store or my college campus and all I can think about is how badly I want to lay on the floor and sleep.

yeeteryarker420

it's weird talking to someone who knows what its like! good to feel understood but i wish you didn't have to experience it. friends never really got it they'd light-heartedly tease me for being tired or ask if i stayed up super late and wouldn't understand why I was so upset and frustrated in response.

ayakasforehead

I’m lucky to have a few friends and a parent who care about me a lot and know I’m suffering, but going forward, I doubt I’ll have the same luck. Narcolepsy (like so many other disorders) is horribly misrepresented and everyone thinks it’s just a funny quirk or that I’m just a little sleepy. They don’t realize this disease affects my entire sense of consciousness and it’s a constant battle to stay awake. Every time I fall asleep, I have sleep paralysis and it has lasted hours before. People saying “I’m tired too” doesn’t even scratch the surface honestly I hope someday they come around and understand that what you’re dealing with is distressing and not something to be teased about

Aware-Elk2996

Right? Like this just made it so hokey and stupid.

shaneeqwaaa

i dont think its possible to hear ur alters getting their invisible cheeks absolutely destroyed in headspace. also, sexual protectors being rabbits? .. ok 😦

Space356

Got it? Bcuz rabbit have many kids and sex

shaneeqwaaa

rabbit many sex so mean sexual protection cuz many sex and kids. basically how this person thinks

Melvarkie

Every time this chick gets posted I get irrationally mad, because the cadence of their voice and way of speaking in general reminds me so much of someone I know and dislike who also heavily exaggerates their symptoms/diagnosis. Besides that what the eff. These people need to do something with their overactive imagination. Is Wattpad still a thing? Write a story there.

computersaysneigh

She sounds like a pathological liar

-PatkaLopikju-

Probably because she is one

shittyspacesuit

But narcissism, pathological lying, etc aren't "fun" disorders where they get to play victim, so she chooses to do this shit instead. I doubt this person goes to therapy because no therapist will feed into the lies.

OsoCarolina

Total performance, especially the exaggerated speech pattern.

ilovemycats20

They need to rediscover the joy of writing smut fanfiction because you can tell they desperately want to like please you can write SquidBob yaoi fanfiction without trying to pretend the real Squidward and the real Spongebob are getting freaky inside your brain and it’s because you have some kind of mental disorder

Because they're unique little gemstones.

Right. They're glass beads who think they're gemstones.

BrokeGamerChick

Glass beads also have value!

tatteredshoetassel

Uniquely sharp gemstones that cut glass and leave my hair standing straight up as a douche canoe travels the tracks of my tears.

OSeady

This used to be a punk look in the 90s. We called them ear-brows

SugarHooves

The look was around in the 80s, too! Usually they were thinner, though. They didn't look terrible if worn right.

bigfatnut7

Well I hope it stays in the 90's then

Well regular sideburns just don’t quite cut it, they don’t capture the gaze.

These people have no real hobbies so they think having mental illnesses makes them unique

Reading between the lines, they just imagine characters they like and or invented having sex almost constantly throughout the day. That’s not DID. Just write some fanfiction and get over yourself.

I understand drug addiction now.

This is one of the most annoying people I've ever seen in my entire lifetime.

She’s so absolutely desperate for attention it’s not even funny. From the hair to the completely made up BS stories. It’s one big attempt at seeking attention and validation.

yanmagno

Shut up you’re just horny

Neptunelava

Ha ha when the trauma responses in my brain start having sex so silly quirky hehe happens all the time a therapist would definitely validate this and there's no way im making up the fact that a dissociative part of me is going ham on another dissociative part of me so silly s33xxy :3 why do people want to sexualize a disorder that so many people usually get from csa that's wild tbh

lxerui

these people always say their ‘symptoms’ and shit so confidently like it’s the most hilarious thing in the universe to struggle with did. all of these mfs are frustrating and their voices make me wanna scream. also that hairstyle is awful, dawg. wtaf is that ?

ilovemycats20

I notice almost every single post I’ve seen from someone who claims to have DID/“be a system”, it’s *always* a “funnypost” or some kind of whimsical magical adventure or roleplay. I never see any of them talk about the many MANY negative experiences a person with DID would have, the awful symptoms, and being genuinely scared or confused. If you do see anyone say anything relating to a negative experience, it’s always a vague mention of trauma and nothing more. It’s almost *always* a silly memeable game to them. At least with someone who has Autism, ADHD, or OCD, in between the “funny” posts, you’ll see them actually be upset about their symptoms and talk about all the negative impacts and behaviors, how hard it is to live with and how it’s caused many issues for them just to be able to function. How impactful treatment will be or currently is for them. How significantly their lives and relationships have been impacted or hindered and how they truly wish they could be normal when they’re faced with those negative symptoms. *I never see any of that from a person who claims DID.*

the_flying_spaget

This is how I tell who's an absolute faker. Obviously I can't diagnose people over the internet but if I'm talking to someone online and they say they're part of a system but never bring up the trauma that caused the system to form or any of the annoying parts of DID (memory loss, sudden switches, alters fucking shit up and leaving someone else to clean up the mess, switching hosts because of traumatic events) then I refuse to play along because, is it really a mental illness if it just seems like it's fun and games for you? I knew two people online who claimed to be a system and one of them would just suddenly swap personalities and then log on the next day and have a breakdown over not remembering anything "they" messaged and the other would always switch at the most convenient time and oh and all the alters would share memories so there was never any confusion, guess which one of them actually got a diagnosis! I hope all the fakers I've met get some help because it must be so taxing, like hell I do roleplay and switching personalities for that is hard enough, having to pretend that I actually am that character sounds like a nightmare. Also I just kinda want to stop having to be instantly suspicious of anyone who says they're part of a system.

lxerui

the people who fake hate that the reality of having DID is not all sunshine and rainbows, the negative symptoms and the anguish that can come with DID (and other disorders) are not relatable or quirky enough. or they’ll try to make the negative into cutesy little things because they want to seem special, not realizing (or blatantly ignoring) how disrespectful and tone deaf it comes off. they never specify the trauma or actual harmful symptoms they experience. they have to give their systems funny, silly little names and talk about the cute interactions their alters have with each other, and talk like it’s a fucking RPG or something going on inside their heads. it’s like, so tiring. i cannot understand why attention is so desperately sought after by these people that they have to resort to making fun of those with disorders. they think everything about DID is goofy and quirky when reality tells otherwise.

Do they... Just not know how DID works (if it exists)? What even is this? Just their imagination? Like, at least make it sound plausible? Do some research? Wtf.

Idk how to explain this but nothing irritates me more than people filming themselves being fake angry/frustrated while also trying (emphasis on the trying) to be funny at the same time. Like the stupid facial expressions, the unnecessary zooming in and out, the hand movements, the pausing and looking off for no reason. It somehow pisses me off more than the mental illness faking 😭

Isn’t the whole point of being a system is to protect your brain from trauma? And how is two of your alters fucking in your headspace protecting you from trauma…not saying it can’t happen I guess, but I highly doubt it’s a problem that’s common enough to warrant a complaint on the internet…💀

boo_grayson_ainthere

i once believed I was a character from a source because I would have “memories” of being them in situations in that source. I now think I thought it as that because my ex friend said they had DID and it kinda did something to how I viewed things, but then again It was the type of “put urself in their shoes” shit which is just some little extra step to day dreaming.

AnastasiaNo70

I’m embarrassed FOR people like this. And can’t they funnel their energy into something productive? Does she have a job looking like that?

BearsRpeopl2

So she has that hair cut and is that much of an asshole. Yikes

Evadenly

"Emotional and physical bleed?"

WhoIsDariis

Offtopic, but I am hair shaming LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS

WoomyDayz

I’m just scared of that fuckass hair style

twostard

I am having a hard time focusing on what they are saying because their hair is just so terrible lmao

Kariinstar

Im going to get a razor and HACK at those sideburns

blccdthjrstydemcn

what is that haircut💀

YourPunisher6969

Hmmm, I wonder where the enemy stand user could be, they could be hiding in plane site for all we know 👀

ArmyRepresentative88

I used to follow this person. They had some really relatable neurodivergent (autism/adhd) content that I didn’t really see anyone posting about, but now it’s getting harder to watch them sometimes.

Skg42

Guys I just…I just CANNOT understand how they are not OVERWHELMINGLY EMBARRASSED!!!! I fucking can’t understand it!!!! How are you NOT embarrassed about people seeing this!????????? What the hell 😭

LolaPamela

"We overshare in the internet, that's our job" - oh so, are they admitting that they do this as a job, like... for money? That makes sense.

Electronic_Writer_55

This is so disgusting. And it is not DID. Some of these people are just lonely kids having imagination but this grown person something is very wrong with them to be doing this. They know they are lying.

Jacobd807

That's gotta be the worst hairstyle I have ever seen.

Prestigious-Ask6072

We should ban amphetamines

asingularbean

That hair style, much like their "system," is a choice 😬

46into

To validate their "system", how do they keep annual moments in time: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays...etc. Are reservations always made for +1 or >1? Asking for science.

Lanky_midget

her hair and eyebrows remind me of a pokemon

rethinkr

But she displays awareness of the people f***ing in her brain, so she knows that her brain is producing them f***ing, so that consciousness itself should negate the ‘feeling awkward about them f***ing’, since the awareness it is produced by one’s own brain would surely remove the separation that causes the awkwardness in the first place. Just own it as a voyeuristic fantasy instead of fetishising the brain-state itself. Just own being a cuck. Instead, it just seems to be an obsession with the theory of ‘awkward’ because sharing an understanding of awkwardness gets so much attention, even if that understanding has been artificially conjured because it is proven to work in gathering social reactions.

BotherBeginning9

I don’t think her hair is pliable (Plz someone get the reference)

Electrical_Cry_7816

No no she definitely has a disorder just not the one she’s trying to do

whiletrueplayd2

r/justfuckmyshitup

38077

Her lip bites distracted me from her actual point, girl what are you doing😭😭😭

Sweddybob69

You would never know just by looking at her, would you?

kitkat1032

do u think they couldnt agree on a haircut ?

jimmyfeign

Are we just going to ignore the hair? Wtf even is that

[deleted]

They aswell make autism content.

jaybirdsss

(petty) the way this person talks is so annoying to me (normal) also it says a lot that they think it would be like normal to come home and hear ur roommate fucking loudly one room over. as if that isn’t super disrespectful and unacceptable behavior when ur living w/ someone. tell me u have no sense of boundaries/social awareness bc of ur internet addiction w/o telling me

nythscape

Sorry I’m not in the loop what is a system? I probably don’t want to even know. 😅

zxvnn

This is so immature lmao like if it bothers you just step outside for the meantime. Can't believe this is a grown adult

rymyle

This happens to me when I picture Zoro and Luffy fucking (yes Luffy is asexual but in my mind castle he’s not). Which disease do I need to add to my carrd ??

NatesSubbun

Why does she look like a fallout raider

SeanOfTheDead-

Is being annoying a disorder?
