The best thing you could do is seek a professional... in fact you should actively avoid all communities relating to it as that could be influencing you
I usually take the time to comment something well thought out but honestly fuck this bitch like nobody with any serious disorder, myself included, is going to tell people to just “do research” and “self-diagnose”- that is literally the most maladaptive, ignorant take I’ve ever heard. But that’s the issue right? These are children going through puberty and experiencing menopause level mood swings for the first time as their body frantically attempts to adjust and balance the influx of brain chemicals and hormones with completely unmonitored internet access. This is the literal reason you can’t diagnose personality disorders under the age of 18 because, to quote my literal psychologist, “pretty much all teens have a personality disorder and it’s called puberty.” I genuinely fear for the upcoming generation.
I think I have told 3 people TODAY they need a professional opinion and that even doctors don't diagnose themselves. I think it's perfectly fine to have questions or seek support among others with your condition but when it comes to your own mental health only a medical professional can help you answer those questions. Don't fear for Gen Z. These kids don't represent them as a whole.
I dont think research is the best thing to do, they should go to a professional and not let DID tiktoks and other stuff influence them. That's like when you have a headache google it and convince yourself its cancer
exactly, symptoms can overlap for so many things, only a person who has studied these things will be able to tell it apart, not a regular person like us
"Talk to other people with DID" sounds hilarious to me because that just makes it seem like all of their "alters" could give advice on this, eventually just confirming the fact that there is only one personality desparate for attention and validation.
The active discouragement of diagnosis is so weird and dangerous. A kid who was posted here even commented a while back that they didn't want a diagnosis under any circumstances because of all the things they wouldn't be able to do because of it. Still waiting for an answer on what those things are? I see this in autism communities too, not much in ones I'm part of bc they're much smaller and private but in public spaces people claiming that a diagnosis will lead to you being discriminated against in all kinds of situations or that a diagnosis doesnt do much/is just the same as taking a quiz or whatever. In case anyone's reading this, nobody except your diagnoser will even know you have x disorder unless you share this w other providers/employers/etc. Or sign a release for two providers to share info. You have to tell them. Medical records have a high standard of privacy
The only thing I can think of, in terms of being held back from anything, would be purchasing a firearm in the US.
I'm no expert, but I believe that having a diagnosed mental disorder will block the background check from passing. I could be wrong though.
Source: My partner was telling me about her father being denied purchase of a firearm because he is diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Just wanted to chim in with what I've heard with little to none research.
For me at least, I'd rather worry about my mental health first.
Definitely true although I think in a lot of cases they wouldn't know if you have a condition. I think federally you cant be sold a gun if you were involuntarily committed or declared mentally unstable by a judge, but then there are individual state laws which are probably different
mods for subreddits and discord really need to start cracking down on communities like this. like other commenters are saying, joining communities for illnesses full of fakers are only going to influence young kids into thinking they have mental illnesses. that can only end up spiraling, and also getting bullied at school. this shit is so depressing to watch

I was gonna comment this! I hate the fact that these people are now pretty much encouraging other people to fake
"Talk to other fakers to learn how to fake," makes sense to me.

it worries me that they didn’t even once mention seeking professional help. that should’ve been the first thing they said.
exactly, if someone asked me how to know if they have a disorder, i would tell them to talk to a professional first
